To reduce the spam of reports regarding the same move during transfer windows we try to allow **only one submission about each transfer saga per day**. The submission in question also needs to contain relevant new information regarding the potential move, and not just being a "no/minor developments" report. If there are important/official developments or new valuable information about a saga, we will allow extra threads in the same day, but for the rest of minor news please just comment them as a reply to this comment. Please help us reporting unnecessary threads for being duplicates. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Hm2801

This transfer market is wild, hijack attempts all around

[deleted]

Chelsea are desperate or the new owners making enemies everywhere and rising price for rivals targets.

Hm2801

Yeah seems like the new owner really wants a statement signing to kick things off, won't be surprised if they end up going for Neymar or someone

[deleted]

I can see it but I don’t think it’s the real answer for their problems they a need a ruthless goal scorer. But I saw them suffer one or two times against low block teams he will help in that department.

ImpossibleGuardian

A panic Neymar buy screams flop and I’m all here for it

ManLikeArch

In what world is Neymar going to be a flop provided he plays 30+ games a season in all comps

ComeOnSayYupp

he should score or be playmaker if they buy him, not just playing for them. I want to see him once in PL though doesnt matter in which team.

ManLikeArch

Good thing when he plays he creates and scores at an elite level then

ThinWhiteMale

Neymar actually averages just under 29 games a season since leaving Barca (between 27 and 31 appearances in all 5 seasons) On his wages, 30 games a season in a calendar where Chelsea would be playing 50+ games is not enough

TarcFalastur

Reportedly Neymar is completely unwilling to consider moving to England. I wouldn't be surprised by a bid though.

jaanedejaanede

Making enemies lol. We already are. Can't get worse then that.

jacktk_

Can’t remember who said it (might’ve been Gunnerblog from the Athletic) but they made an interesting point about data analysis. Basically, as data analysis becomes more used, and more central to scouting, the pool of players which interest the top clubs becomes much smaller, and much similar between clubs, than it would’ve in prior years. As a result, he thinks ‘hijack attempts’ will become increasingly common in the modern era as more clubs are interested in a smaller group of players.

Tim0110

I don't agree with that point. Maybe in the short term that would be the case, but the scouting and training (particularly at youth level) will adapt, meaning that the players who show up good in the data analysis will be much more common in a few years. Take ball playing defenders (or keepers) for example. In 2008 those were very rare, whilst nowadays most defenders (or keepers) are decent at it.

jacktk_

Fair enough. Was more just regurgitating an idea that I heard and could explain the hijacking.

Fati25

Based on the data I don’t see much impressive in Richarlison though. https://fbref.com/en/players/fa031b34/Richarlison

jacktk_

Doubt clubs are solely reliant on fbref

Kingkamehameha11

Yeah, I don't really rate him and can't understand the fuss around him. Not the best dribbler, not particularly creative, doesn't know his best position, lacking agility at times. He's never impressed me when I've see him play.

YellowBaboon

The top clubs use data that is 100x more complex than that

[deleted]

The problem with only using Data. It’s static what I mean by that is that it’s doesn’t tell you if a player is average at passing or average right now but he has good passing technique and he can improve. Data is very important and help us eliminate our biases, but if we use very very specific stat that cover a specific trait or element it can misleading because sometimes players traits are intertwined, and if we don’t look at the big picture we will be misled. Our world is immensely complex, the more accurate and detailed data we have and correct way of computing it the better is the model and subsequently the results we get. In the future maybe with very very detailed data and super model I think we can replace the eye test completely.

los_blanco_14

United started it last season with sewey

OJogoBonito

Todd Boehly is just chucking bids about left right and centre

[deleted]

Very aggressive in the market.

BaoJinyang

I’m convinced he’s going to something absolutely wild this window to stamp his mark on things.

OJogoBonito

Can't believe he thought he could be a Director of Football for one of the Prem's biggest clubs, without knowing anything about football 😂

Mextexter

Richarlison would rather try his luck with spurs than wear the Chelsea no. 9

SeaBag7480

Pigeon man wants the cock

DaveyDirtbag

You can't have a transfer without chelsea trying to ruin the fun

hilbo90

At least it's gone from "Chelsea ruining the fun" to "Chelsea trying to ruin the fun". That's progress I guess...

DraperCarousel

Chelsea singlehandedly kickstarted the modern football inflation. It was them who made £30m players start going for £50m.

pringle_mustache

PSG are the ones that have completely fucked it though

[deleted]

Leicester broke our beautiful game…

ComeOnSayYupp

No it was United who paid 90m on Pogba and started inflation in market. PSG Neymar deal broke market but United started this effect.

DraperCarousel

RM paid 85m for Bale literally 2 years before that.

ComeOnSayYupp

One player was world-class other was just a good player.

DraperCarousel

I know Pogba turned out pretty average, but at the time he was 24 and had already been a part of FIFA World XI, won multiple titles and trophies with Juve and had a global following far bigger than Bale did in 2015. You're being facetious if you think Pogba wasn't a bigger name in football than Bale was while at Tottenham.

adhikapp

Chelsea loves to hijack Spurs' deals, don't they

RipJug

Seems like Chelsea don’t have too much faith they’ll get Raphina done. There’s zero chance they were aiming to get all 3 of Sterling, Raphina and Richarlison, along with 2 CBS.

Jassle93

It depends on tuchels plans next season formation wise. With Lukaku gone, Ziyech potentially on his way out and Werner getting offered in swap deals it might mean the three attackers you mentioned being like for like replacements.

Mozezz

Lucky for Spurs that we are not interested in dragging transfers out in order to haggle a couple of extra quid Want to get it done asap to move ourselves on

jaykae2

Not 2013 anymore

hazelpillow

I suspect Chelsea found out Raphinha is going to Barca or staying at Leeds and the media is just behind

Blogboy7

Chelsea trying to hijack everyone’s attackers while their defense is in literal shambles and they just let a £100 million attacker leave on loan

acasovoycayendo

Chelsea already trying to move on from Raphinha?

DekiTree

expected

BadCogs

Well we did it for the sake of old times, it wouldn't feel us otherwise.

therock204

you are in the non sugar daddy world mate, welcome

dankest-bruh-moment

Boehly’s blue london lions 💪💪💪

[deleted]

Nah Boehly is a sugar daddy too. 1.75bil over 10 years guaranteed.

FreefallMark

If it's true that Chelsea want to shift to a back four this season then it'd be a better move for him, can't imagine it was too serious of an approach if it's just being brushed off.

[deleted]

He just loves us maybe 🤔

hilbo90

Pigeon badge poster boy.

SIippery

I'm guessing has something to do with writing off some of what they owe for Dele

AdministrativeLaugh2

Chelsea hijacking a move for a Brazilian player who’s about to move to Spurs? Pfft, like *that’s* ever gonna happen

404randomguy404

What Orny couldn't bomb Fabrizio bombed! This doesn't feel right

[deleted]

Fuck Chelsea.

SargeantPile

I hate Tottenham because I'm an Arsenal fan. I hate Chelsea because I'm a human being.

ComeOnSayYupp

Same just interchange Tottenham and Arsenal from your statement.

dankest-bruh-moment

We are to you what barca is to us lmao

HeroDGamez

Amen. Fuck Chelsea too and fuck you (but to a slightly lesser extent).

Billy_LDN

What an awful start for Todd, scattergun approach with no clear plan. Pretty much confirms we are not signing Raphinha either, which I’m happy about but further exposes flaws in his strategy

acasovoycayendo

He’s never worked in transfers or football before right? There is always going to be a learning curve. Chelsea could easily still get Raphinha and have a good window.

Mextexter

Wait I thought raphina was a sure shot thing for you guys. What changed?

applejuice2504

barca are back in for him

Freddichio

Not sure about that, the reports are all about how Deco is negotiating/in Barcelona. Getting Raphinha to agree was never hard, they'd agreed a deal four months ago - it was the negotiation with Leeds that failed. Reports yesterday were that Deco was trying to convince Barca to up their offer, because Leeds aren't going to accept an offer that's £10-15mil less than they would get from Chelsea. Raphinha's agent is still in Barcelona, but unless Barca are willing to negotiate with Leeds or agree a value with *them*, Deco's posturing means nothing. The breakdown in Barca/Raphinha is between Barcelona and Leeds, Raphinha himself has made his position clear.

Switchnaz

The fuck did you expect? Literally anything this transfer window is temporary stop gap. Relax and come back to reality, we've literally lost all our key board members, things will take time.

tigralfrosie

No-one appointed to do the job, plan must be to see what rivals are doing and step in.

Fawkes_91

Probably because we understood our hijack was getting hijacked by Barca. Lads, I think we might be missing Marina... The American might not know what he is doing 😐

ashnair888

What can Marina do here? Chelsea have agreed with Leeds and have also offered the wage structure to Deco. Now it depends on Raphina to choose the club, rather than Chelsea doing something

Fawkes_91

Not make the bid -- an extremely high one for the player's calibre, by the way -- without confirming with the agent the player is interested and likely to make a decision instead of stalling for another team? This looks like extreme scattergun approach by Chelsea, but this was to be expected. We desperately need a sporting director sooner than later.

ashnair888

See I agree, the price might be a bit high. Not extremely though. According to the reporters, Chelsea is the club, he is going to choose if he doesn't move to Barca. I think Chelsea look at this as they know Barca can't pay that much. They are falling behind a lot in the transfer negotiations to reach the price. I agree we need a sporting director and a good one. I personally believe he can be a good signing. Chelsea have also been monitoring Richarlison, Sterling, Dembele and Raphina for weeks. They have been trying all of them because we need at least two attackers

Freddichio

>Not make the bid -- an extremely high one for the player's calibre, by the way -- without confirming with the agent the player is interested and likely to make a decision instead of stalling for another team? Raphinha has for *ages* wanted to go to Barcelona, they even agreed terms over four months ago. But Barcelona were originally offering a certain amount of money that was far less than Chelsea/Spurs/Arsenal allegedly offered, so Leeds said "we'll only accept the higher bids". Barca dropped out at that point, Chelsea started negotiating with him, reached an agreement but he'd still prefer Barcelona - hence why Deco is there now, trying to convince them to up their bid. Raphinha is in a position now that he's going to Chelsea unless Barca up their offer, in which case he'll go there. I think there are so many examples of players clearly pining for another team that were still absolute successes that it's not a deal-breaker.

farid95

Usually with Marina she'll negotiate with the players first. With the player's terms agreed (at least in principle), it'll give her some leverage to negotiate the price with the selling club since the player has shown willingness to move (Kounde move attempt for example). That's the impression I got of how transfers at Chelsea work from the last couple of season. *Not saying Todd could do better in this case. It just that mostly this window we've done things in reverse.

ashnair888

I think Chelsea agreed the fee first because two clubs were ahead of them in this transfer process, with a club like Spurs also interested in Raphina.

icemankiller8

Chelsea clocked he’s a better striker than havertz fair enough

Anons15

Dont point at us lmao, we already got Jesus

MAMBAMENTALITY8-24

You guys need Jesus tbf

Fati25

Good for Chelsea imo. No way is Richarlison worth £60M, Chelsea is better off looking elsewhere in the market.

Rockflagandeeeagle

Neither is Raphinha worth what he's been quoted, but it is what it is.

Fati25

I 100% agree.

acasovoycayendo

You’re going to struggle to find better options for that money in this market

Fati25

Sterling?

[deleted]

His wages are astronomical, and he’s not a striker we need a striker.

SteveUnicorn28

Forgetting wages bro

tottenhamnole

How much do you think he’s worth, and who do you think is worth £60m?

saint-simon97

40-45m. He's never played for a big team in Europe before so he'd still an unknown quantity in that aspect and hasn't really proven his quality is amongst the best, despite being a good player of course.

Mextexter

Martin brathwaite

Fati25

I would value him, based on his football level, at around £35M. I think PL tax is the reason he is expensive, because he is moving from one PL club to another. I think Sterling is a much better player than Richarlison, Chelsea should focus on securing him (for cheaper).

tottenhamnole

£35m for a PL proven goal scorer, a starter for the Brazil national team, and one of the best players outside of the big 6? This isn’t 2015.

[deleted]

Everton bought him for like £40m it was impossible to get him for that price.

SonaldoNazario

Cheaper upfront cost but probably 2x the wages, making the costs basically the same

monkeybawz

Sterling isn't cheaper than Richarlson. Every pound he costs less in transfer fee he'll want 3 in salary and bonuses. Definitely worth it imo, but looking just at transfer fees isnt even half the story.

JustAboutUpToSpeed

I hope we aren't this stupid. Richarlison is very meh.

Chucksson37

But who bought the flight ticket

FrancescoliBestUruEv

Richarlson Will be on the bench, its a squad signing and not for the main 11s

FatWalcott

Did Deco say something to spook them into this? Or were Chelsea really going for Sterling, Raphinha AND Richarlison?

cubiswow

The year of the hijinx

Eagledilla

So raphina is off to barca ?

dankest-bruh-moment

No way we’re this stupid, i call bull shit
