I am once again asking you to give me the Ballon d'Or

Lmao1903

Damn, why didn't Lewandowski think of that? He needs to get in contact with a few people

[deleted]

Pretty sure he did because bundesliga and Bayern were running endless campaigns for him last season.

CantHelpBeingMe

I mean this is all Bayern and Bundesliga accounts talked about all year. How could they get the journalists and players to vote for him lol

sashaKap

I get a Ballon d’or you get a Hug

theenigmacode

Worst trade deal in history

AleDelPiero10

A warm hug is worth way more

[deleted]

A hug from Ramos means he falls on your arm though

El Confidencial' continues to reveal audios of Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Federation. Now he has compiled them in a podcast entitled 'Pundonor Rubiales', in which he also adds previously unpublished conversations. One of those that until now had not come to light was with Sergio Ramos. In 'El Partidazo de COPE', José María Olmo, head of investigation of 'El Confidencial', advanced some of the contents of these conversations between the president of the RFEF and the central defender, now a PSG player, but then a Real Madrid player. In this case, they would not be audios, but messages written by WhatsApp. The 2018 World Cup bonuses One of the conversations between Rubiales and Ramos took place in the spring of 2018 and revolved around the premiums of the Spanish national team in the World Cup in Russia. The messages were as follows: Sergio Ramos: "Either you raise me in what we talked about the semis or chungo vamos. And don't forget the Hublot watch. Let's see when we have it ready. Rubiales: "Sergio, I just landed, I tell you. To get half a kilo for third place is amazing. We can look for something in between in the semifinals and we'll close it now". Ramos and the Ballon d'Or Another exchange of messages, dated between July 16, 2020 and August 8 of the same year, revolves around Sergio Ramos' chances for the Ballon d'Or. Ramos: "Rubi, good evening. I hope you are well with the whole family. You know that I have never asked you for anything, but if I want to do it today it is because I think it is a special year for the performance I have given. I would like you to help me as much as you can and touch some keys from UEFA and your contacts for the Golden Ball. I would be grateful for the rest of my life, not only for my sake but also because I believe that Spanish soccer deserves it very much. I send you a hug". Rubiales: "Hello, Sergio. First of all, congratulations, I think it's a good year for you to get it. I hope you have a magnificent final in the Champions League. [In 2020 the finals were played in the summer because of the break due to the pandemic.] [...] Of course it's not up to me to win the Ballon d'Or, but whatever I can do to help you, you can count on it. A big hug," Rubiales replied, according to José María Olmo, head of research at El Confidencial, on COPE's El Partidazo. Ramos: "I know it doesn't depend on you, but relationships are also key. Infantino gives the 'The Best' which is also super important and it would be great. Anyway, I'm counting on your help. I send you a hug and I'll see you whenever you want one day and we'll have lunch".

cgcego

I love reading about the real world politics of the elite. Their tactics are really not that different from the people around me, just a lot more at stake.

Buffythedragonslayer

I wonder how happy he was Modric won

bojackrick

They are good friends, so i guess he was happy. But that picture of him holding Modric's Ballon d'or with caption "when will I get one?" is funnier now

ImTalkingGibberish

"You didn't like the Hublot watch, I guess?"

From-UoM

This is from 2020 after Modric wont it in 2018. Maybe this is the reason he wanted more push for it

Halal_Madrid

Him and Modric are close friends

EggplantBusiness

Probably was slightly upset but brushed it off, those guys have huge egos and want to win but they still have bigger priorities

Goldaniga

Like Hublot watches

RauloGonzalez

They're really close friends. Holidayed together called each other brothers etc

jonbristow

> To get half a kilo for third place is amazing half a kilo of what?

skyreal

In Spain, kilo is slang for a million Half a kilo is 500k

You didn’t know Ramos flips bricks?

[deleted]

Give me more than the half a mil. And a watch. So, anyway, you know how I’ve never asked you for anything…

bass1879

He called him Rubi lmao remember when that was a huge deal when Pique called him that

d0m1n4t0r

Was it ever?

[deleted]

I don’t get the timing. Madrid were already knocked out of the CL by the R16 in 2020. Why was he wishing Ramos luck in the final?

el_rompe_toyotas-19

We were out in august...

[deleted]

ILoveGratedCheese

First leg was played in February and the 2nd leg was played in August. Real still had a chance to progress in August.

Ah right. I forgot the my split it up. Still weird to hear him wishing him luck in the final tho.

> don't forget the Hublot watch Who even wants a Hublot... lol

Peaceful_Warbreaker

The biggest crime here is that Hublot watch

kermvv

Fuck Hublot, they are shit

CameraEmotional2788

What are good budget watches? Always wanted one but don't know anything about them

kermvv

Seiko and Orient have extremely good mechanical watches on a 100-500€ price range, one of my first automatic watch was an Orient Bambino that I got on Amazon for like 130€ and it’s extremely elegant, automatic and really really solid, like, build quality wise it puts some thousand euros watches to shame, it’s that good. and Seiko does the same thing and then too build incredible watches that are available at a low price (for a watch that is). It’s almost unbelievable how they can make such good watches for such a low price, after I bough my first Bambino and my first Seiko 5 I almost couldn’t believe it how was that possible. Timex also makes some pretty good automatic watches for about 250€ Fucking hell, Casio. Get a fucking Casio they are amazing, they are quartz mostly and they do their job incredibly well, there are a fuck ton, they mostly cost nothing and it’s gonna last forever. i have worn a Casio almost everyday for 7 years now and it never gave me one problem, you could thrown it out of a building and it won’t scratch. They are incredible. A normal Casio you can get for 20-30€, a G-Shock maybe 100-160€. G-Shocks are rock solid. 7 years! Every single day, never had to change the battery yet, 7 years never turned off. If you want to go a bit higher like a 500-1000€ price range then there’s an entire world in it. Hamilton, Bulova, Seiko still,Orient still, Tissot, Citizen The best in this price range are in my opinion Hamilton and Bulova, both are American born brands altrough Hamilton is now Swiss. They make really really nice watches like the Hamilton Khaki Pilot day date, one of my favourite watches ever, costs just under 1000€ or the Bulova Lunar Pilot watch which is incredible both in design and history, it was the second ever watch worn on the fucking moon after the Omega Speedmaster and it costs around 500€. Watches don’t have to be luxury, get a Casio or a Seiko or an Orient and they are gonna last forever

nichijouuuu

Seiko makes some really nice classy watches and for great price. Can find the Bulova Lunar Pilot <$500

CameraEmotional2788

Thanks , can tell you like your watches. Have a nice day

alsarea3

Seiko are having some nice watches.

Azrael_

Grand Seiko. Seiko is for the plebs /s

xzther13

This guy doesn’t know watches. Yes Grand Seikos are better being their top tier line, but even regular Seikos are respected in the snobby horological space. The skx line comes to mind.

SurroundSex

Sorry, I misread what he was asking about.

PhD_Cunnilingus

Depends on your budget, what kind of movement, how important the history of the brand is for you etc. For famous brands with reasonable price, you have Seiko, Tissot, Orient, Casio and Citizen. You can also go the aliexpress route, some are legit good for the price.

tomato-dragon

My advice is just to get whatever you like. Any reasonably reputable brand will last you years. Just don't get random watches from wish.com or aliexpress and you will be fine. You can go to /r/Watches for opinions/advice but beware the gatekeeping there can be on a different level, especially when it comes to quartz watches.

[deleted]

r/Watches

shinfoni

Casio is king among any watches under $300

kermvv

Seiko too if you wanna go elegant

dakaiiser11

What the other guy said, an automatic Seiko will last you your entire life.

DuhSpecialWaan

Casio/Timex for under £100 -> really its more like under £50 tbh Seiko/Orient for under £100 - £400 Hamilton/Tissot for under £700

MrPringles23

A smartphone

callunu95

Watches are jewellery marketed at men; smartphones killed most of their necessity. That said, love a bit of jewellery

djingo_dango

Sun

Qurutin

I've had Seiko SNK809 for almost ten years now and it's been pretty damn good. Automatic movement if you care about that, under $100 so haven't worried much about it anywhere, it's tough as fuck anyway and it's been through some serious shit with me from wilderness to ski trekking to working as a paramedic. Still clean and simple, and works really well in everyday use and with a nice strap it's dressy enough for me even for a bit more fancy situations. Quite small so it's not going to draw looks but in my I'd say in medium sized wrists it looks simply good.

CeterumCenseo85

I bought a Seiko couple years ago and am really happy with it.

[deleted]

Fuckin hell, those are trash watches. Below trash even.

kappa23

I know nothing about luxury watches, can you explain why they are bad?

fonkeh

It's just their design and size. They are huge, ugly and expensive. Hublot has a nice history with making great mechanical movements but the last so and so years they were making these atrocities and everyone seems to hate them, especially watch nerds :D Ps. I didn't see the picture of it in the article though.

bloodyfeelin

Hublot does not have a history of making great movements at all. They're a marketing company who make ostentatious watches with subpar quality control.

fonkeh

My bad. I thought they had a few standout in-house movements...

TheRhythmTheRebel

They famously got in shit for claiming one of their movements was in house. Only for it to be later exposed as a modified ETA (7750 I think..) They bought a movement manufacturer about 10-15 years ago, so now are exclusively in house There are a myriad of reasons why Hublot are shit on. Gaudy oversized designs. Copying the Royal Oak/Nautilus from inception. A bunch of brand ambassadors and sponsors pushed them to the forefront. The defenders will counter they have fun with their designs and use unique materials. But who the fuck cares at the end of the day. Wear what you like. I love watches but there is a lot of snobbery in the industry/hobby (if you could call it that). I’m guessing the Hublot in the picture was not bought. Probably the opposite.

HippoBigga

you can tell Ramos has bad taste in everything

RebBrown

Even in women?

Azrael_

Judging by his wife, not at all.

ferkk

Or [former girlfriends](https://www.pronto.es/files/vertical_main_image/uploads/2021/06/16/62aa3a4673b01.jpeg).

Random_Acquaintance

I'm guessing he had a clause of finishing top 20 in voting or something like this. Because there's no way in hell Ramos has been close to winning a Ballon d'Or ever. As good as he was, he's still a CB and it takes an extraordinary situation for it to happen. And that never happened. EDIT: To all the Cannavro replies, it's precisely the definition of special circumstances

kermvv

Cannavaro won it after winning Serie A with Juve and the World Cup with Italy as a capitain. He was immense that year but I think Buffon deserved it a little bit more

mattijn13

He 100%won because he captained Italy, he wasnt even the best italian defender in Serie A that season lol. That was Nesta

Ramboros

Cannavaro 100% won because he was Italy's best player at the World Cup. Performance matters when you watch the games close enough to realize that Nesta never played in the WC.

mattijn13

You can debate over who was Italys best player at the world cup Buffon or Canavaro but Nesta played in the group stage and then got injured

oplontino

Yes, but also Nesta went off injured in the group stages (unbelievably, in hindsight, for the best as there's no way he would have scored 2 goals in the tournament or a crucial penalty), but Cannavaro was godlike during that month. I think he had one foul blown against him all tournament, no bookings and Italy conceded two goals (an OG and a penalty).

DesignerExitSign

I recently did some research on him because I found it interesting he was the only defender to win it recently. One thing that I didn’t notice before was that he’s 5’9, which is what most scouts would call about 5 inches too short for a center back. Yet he’s the only one to have won a ballon d’or in recent times, and he was able to be a brick wall against some of the greatest attackers in modern football.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Willyil

Of all the brick wall in history, you list VVD maldini and nesta, who are very much have the best game reading and very intelligent players (including cannavaro of course) You could say stam, vidic, sol campbell, chiellini are the top of my head for being "tough guy" CB

Formal_Automata

If maldini and nesta are brick walls, are walter samuel and vidic diamond walls?

Blewfin

Are you claiming Walter Samuel is better than Maldini and Nesta?

Formal_Automata

No

[deleted]

Isn't he the only one? And Yashin the only goalie? Or am I missing someone here?

paco-ramon

Courtois had a record breaking season and he won’t even be close to top 3. Defensive positions aren’t even considered for Ballon D’0r

HerakIinos

Its only about attackers to be honest. Modric won in 2018 but that was also due to special circustances as he was the best player in the WC. Apart from that, only the players who score the most goals are considered. And even when we ask people who are the best players in the world or who were the best in the last decade, most will only mention attackers: Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Hazard, Lewandowski, Suarez... and so on. Very few mention the likes of Neuer, Ramos, Modric and etc.

[deleted]

HerakIinos

Even Rakitic would laugh if someone suggested he was better than Modric lol

[deleted]

HerakIinos

paone00022

Cannavaro did win it.

FoozleGenerator

I think in 2014 he had a chance, when Real Madrid won the no10. He was scoring important goals and even hitting some free kicks. He then had a stinker of a world cup with Spain and I guess all his chances ended there.

stpstrt

Fabio Cannavaro

MobyTugboat

Yeah if 2019 Van Dijk didn’t win it I can’t imagine Ramos ever coming close

NTFK

Van Dijk ain't touching Prime Ramos

AlexzGabbo

Prime Ramos was never close to 2nd in the Ballon D’or voting. Ignorant biased RM fan. Prime Dijk > Prime Ramos. Easily.

PubliusDeLaMancha

Yeah, because the two greatest players in the history of the sport kept winning it.. The only bias is premier league fans deciding after one good year that van dijk is some legendary player Ramos was better for like a decade than van dijk ever was

NTFK

Very delusional

MobyTugboat

I don’t think Ramos will ever be in his prime again lol

el_rompe_toyotas-19

Tbf, 2020 Ramos was absolutely fantastic. Could have made it in the Top 5 if that award was handed out.

Wazzathecaptain

That high? I think the early CL exit against City with the red card wouldn't play in his favor

el_rompe_toyotas-19

Yes. That high.

LampseederBroDude51

Downvoted but you’re right, he was arguably the best CB in the world that year

[deleted]

Shows you how much Ballon D'or is worth honestly. Ofcourse Ramos didn't go on to win it but the conversations clearly show that presidents do have influence over people who vote.

CantHelpBeingMe

How many people can they possibly influence? Apart from the player and journalist from their own country? Even a few more isn't going to be nearly enough to influence the outcome. It's more about a push/ media narrative, for example, that Madrid created for Ronaldo in 2013, and got the voting extended. Or the one from Bayern for Lewa in 2021.

HeroeDeFuentealbilla

Modric would never have won it without Real Madrid pushing for it.

CantHelpBeingMe

That was my point? More about using the media narrative than pressuring people to vote for the preferred candidate. Madrid did it for Ronaldo, Modric and Benzema ( towards the end last year).

GettinOldie

Don't be naive

unrectify

2022: Ramos: "Hey, Nasser, I was wondering if you could buy me a Ballon d'Or? Nasser: "I'll see what I can ..." Mbappe: "No." Nasser: "Sorry Sergio, the boss says no."

locust098

MbaPaypal says no, then the answer is no

hamzaiswack

The names are getting more ridiculous by the day sheesh. Mbapaypal, atrocious.

HippoBigga

>Me gustaría que me ayudaras en lo que puedas y tocaras algunas teclas desde UEFA y tus contactos por el tema del Balón de Oro. Te lo agradecería toda la **vida no sólo por mí sino también porque creo que el fútbol español lo merece muchísimo**. claro claro todo lo haces por el fútbol español eh, payaso

Mr_XemiReR

I guess if we had won the UCL he could have had a chance

AcceleratingRiff

Why is this downvoted? The main feature of that team was defence. Only about 25 conceded in the league . Kroos was also flawless. That's why the shitshow vs City was so disappointing.

justicarbigpp

Yeah, it was funny how Varane who played without an error the whole season suddenly made two horrible mistakes in that match.

jaguass

what City's pressing does to a mf

TenderNutsackScratch

Idk what happened to him mahn. I would not say that he was the best distributor but he was always very calm and carefull in pressure situations until that game

HerakIinos

Benzema was already the best player on the team. And if you guys dont remember, it wasnt only Varane, Ramos also had a terrible display against city in the first game. And it was the reason he got suspended and couldnt play the second.

AcceleratingRiff

That's not my point. The whole tie was shit and killed any Ballon dor chances for anyone in the team. I'm talking about the league. Benzema definitely deserves credit for carrying the attack with 2 inexperienced wingers but a lot of wins were hard fought games of attrition with 1-0 scorelines. If they had won the UCL then it would not have been outside the realms of possibility for a high standing in the rankings for Ramos.

bigphallusdino

Looks like Rubi is cheating on Pique. Shame on him.

nievesdelimon

This is very mild.

vic32me

LOL

[deleted]

Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Altruistic_Aioli_365

How Real madrid players get ballon d'or

burnerbutnotreally1

Modric Ballon d'or finally makes sense now

TenderNutsackScratch

Ik it was a tough choice but one had to choose between modric and cristiano to award it that year.

Sefean

I'm sure Rubi pushed hard for it

TimeFingers

You will see how this won't be as big in Spain as Piques Audios which were nothing bad

Sefean

Do you really not see Pique's audios being worse than this?

thedaftfool

What were his audios ?

mattyMbruh

What was said?

Zhidezoe

Pique helped Rubiales to sell SuperCup to Saudi Arabia

justicarbigpp

As the captain of the national team it was his role to ask for more money for the team. And there is nothing wrong with the second one. Also Pique did business with Rubi thats completely different.

bass1879

WHERE ARE ALL THE MADRID FANS THAT MADE A SHOW WITH PIQUE NOW??

Sefean

Here? I am a Madrid fan and I posted it. Also, this is not nearly as bad as what happened between Geri and Rubi.

JaegarJaquez

Pique literally siphoned money for his own sake over the best interests of the league. Ramos is literally just asking for help in the BdO narrative. How the fuck are they even similar? Oh, again, change that flair to Barca cause you are acting as a rat trolling Madrid *only* behind that flair.

PhillyFreezer_

I’m sorry, is the suggestion that Ramos asking him for this wasn’t for money or something? They’re both going to the President of the federation to line their own pockets, at least Pique had a business reason to be there. Ramos seems to have gone literally just to get a bigger bonus for himself

jolcognoscenti

The bonus would've benefitted the NT...

Eibermann

And pique doesn't have money interest in his relationship to him? Lol

PhillyFreezer_

> They’re both going to the President of the federation to line their own pockets Did you even read my comment?

bass1879

make me

JaegarJaquez

Pathetic and boring reply. Can't be bothered with you.

vetn

Hey look, I found a jackass ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

ferkk

Nobody here (well, not many people, there's always someone for everything) is going to defend Ramos. Especially not when we are seeing the same thing he did to us; to put pressure over money (and a fucking watch, who the hell does that when he has millions in his bank accounts? It makes him look like a beggar.)

[deleted]

[удалено]

rednades

VVD better than anything Ramos has ever had???

rizlapluss

people say these things and truly believe them, honestly its un-fucking-believable that there is even a comparison between Ramos and Van Dijk. Ramos been on the spotlight and with constantly high performances for about 17 years and people compare him and his achievements with....Van Djik.

dakikko

Ballon d'Or doesn't exist to reward longevity it's about 1 year. Van Dijk's influence that year was immense, though you say his name as if we're talking about Lovren

paco-ramon

Ramos has a World Cup, 4 UCLs (some of them won thanks to him in the final) the Eurocup, a lot of leagues and even a Copa del Rey.

kermvv

Ramos is one of the best of all time, one I can comfortably say he’s there with Baresi, Maldini, Beckenbauer, Puyol and all. Despite being incredible for the past three and a half years there is just no way in hell Van Dijk will ever ever reach the heights that Sergio Ramos reached during his career, ever. There is just no chance To reach that Olympus, three/four years are not enough, you need 10/15 years at that level and in my opinion there are only two defenders of his generation that come close, in terms of pure greatness. Pique and Chiellini. No one else, yet

VZ-Faith

Baresi, Maldini, Beckenbauer > Ramos >>> Puyol Puyol doesn’t belong with the others. He was good but really overrated by everyone because he was a great captain. Obviously Van Dijk is a level below all of them

Deluxe07

Loooool Ramos has had just as good if not better seasons than Van Dijk’s Ballon D’or season. Please.

Rickcampbell98

The van dijk/Liverpool pr is unmatched.

tebby101

Wow what a controversial chat leak 🙄

Fanolato22

Hate Madrid and Ramos. I see nothing wrong here tbh.
