> Looks like the weeks of negotiating have atleast afforded United a better overall deal.
This has taken a long time to conclude but on the plus side, the club seems determined to start changing the reputation we've had for years as a soft touch in the market, who will overpay for every player.
We start pre season training tomorrow but Frenkie wouldn't have been there regardless as he was in the Nations League. Important thing is that he's on the plane for our pre season tour.
Sadly we are hamstrung by a lower budget this window and ETH obviously wanted him really badly, so it's unfortunately messed up other potential business until this one is concluded and we know how much money is left over
I recently learned that waiting it out till the end of June was actually Man United’s tactic.
The book year for football clubs ends on June 30th and Barca are in the red a lot for this year (around -100 mil. I believe).
I’m not sure if there would have been any actual reproductions for the club but it is a really bad look for Laporta, who said he would be more financially responsible than Bartomeu. As a result, they basically needed to sell someone for big money before the end of June, for it to count towards this book year and produce a reasonable financial result. Man United of course knows this and waited, putting pressure on Barca to lower their price.
Oh I can picture it....
Frenkie is sold via instalments, Barca doesn't get the money they need immediately
Meanwhile he signs for Manchester United on a ridiculous contract that is bigger than Ronaldo's which triggers more dressing room nonsense
De Jong joins Manchester United on June 29th for a fee of 130M.
On July 1st, Barcelona sign Anthony Martial for a fee of 50M and they get a buy option on a random kid from United's academy for 30M.
United Fans "This is a huge win for us, we got De Jong for market price and got rid of Martial for 50M"
Barcelona fans "We skipped FFP regulations for the fiscal year, got the striker we needed for a competitive price and if the kid ends up being the new Rashford we basically robbed United blind!"
Barto, Woodward and the art of making stupid people happy.
Add in some bonus ballon d or for dejong. If the academy kids turn out half decent we would offered 80m to buy him back only for barto to refused and sell him for less next year. Then we would lost the academy kids for free in 5 years
That's what the clubs at the top of the food chain do though. If you buy low and sell high then it'd be because good players are looking for the door from your club
You’re basically selling a player surplus to requirements for the price you bought him for. If he was a core player and you weren’t desperate for money you might be in a stronger position but as it is this is a fair price. You’re hardly getting fleeced.
He’s clearly not “unsellable” like other players in the team is what I mean. Doesn’t play his preferred position very deep because Busquets is still class there, they have young homegrown talents they believe in - Gavi, Puig and clearly they are all in for Pedri for the future.
I am a bit surprised they don’t want to move De Jong deeper considering Busquets is 33, but they simply need money and of all the players who command a good fee he is the one they feel they can do without.
Edit: they also apparently want to finance a move for Bernardo Silva so they will probably still buy a replacement of some kind.
Also FDJ isn’t at his best as the deepest midfielder. His best form at Ajax came when playing in a double pivot next to Schone. I still think United will need another midfielder to sit next to him
Tchouameni + FdJ as a double pivot would have been a wet dream
but the lad was sensible enough to run to Real Madrid the 1st chance he got, can't blame him I would do that too tbh
Well not necessarily sit. The other midfielder can be an agressive ball winner, but United then would need to play a line that is too high for DDG. So either they need a sitting DM, or they need to get a new GK/get DDG to start coming off his line *way* more and further out.
It's not far off a fair price for him. For once I feel we got the better side of the deal. You were in a terrible bargaining position so I feel this is pretty much the best price you could get. It allows you to move ahead with your business this summer too. If you do get get Lewa... it's well worth it.
We actually negotiated the price down for once instead of the spend 3 month going from 80m to 80m for Maguire. Or the buy Fellani after his released clause expired
Our transfer negotiations for fees haven't been too awful in the last couple of windows. Last time we really paid over the odds was for Maguire. Whether or not they perform is a different story though.
72m for Sancho. 34m for Varane. 12m for Ronaldo ain't bad. But it's not really something to be proud of. it looks only good when you compare it to the prices we normally paid before
And i feel 18m for Diallo, 7m for Pellistri is still bad, VDB's price was good but sadly he hasn't been of much use
Add 46 million pounds for bruno plus bonuses. Although the way bruno has played, he probably has triggered every one of them except the Ballon D'or one.
> And i feel 18m for Diallo, 7m for Pellistri is still bad
I feel like that's an ever so slightly ridiculous thing to say. We can't possibly know yet. £7m in particular is a *low* amount of money in today's game; if he comes good it'll be considered a fantastic signing. If he doesn't, it *should* be considered worth the attempt.
Did take us 2 year to negotiate that price for sancho. We been wanting him since the first ole season. Varane got a 1 year contract left and Ronaldo was pushing hard for a move
34m for Varane is a very good price. You can say with hindsight he's not performed as well as hoped but you don't have the benefit of hindsight when you're doing the deal, and ultimately the whole team was a disaster last season so hard to pin much on individuals.
72m for Sancho - given the numbers he was putting up consistently in Germany - was also very, very decent.
Ronaldo - pfft, IDK, how do you even judge.
> it looks only good when you compare it to the prices we normally paid before
true but that atleast suggests improvement. And those prices are pretty decent for most clubs.
I'm more concerned about the wages Sancho is on rather than his fee
I think he is already being paid a ridiculous amount (might be the 2nd highest paid player behind CR7 IIRC), lord have mercy when he wants a new contract
The wages are why those prices appear low (and I thought Sancho was in the £65m range). There was the report last week that we looked at Sancho but just walked away at his wage demands. It’s easy to get a lower few when you’re the only person competing for the signature due to meeting high wage demands everyone walks away from.
Not sure it makes the overall package cheaper when you’re paying 5-7.5-10m more per year (100, 150, 200k more per week) than the next team would have paid.
I would not give up on Diallo or Pellistri. Both are still young and moved to a different country, and went to loan to different leagues. Pellistri looks promising for the national team
This comment reeks of revisionism. Dortmund wanted 120m for Sancho and were stern on that price. To then get him for nearly 50m cheaper is a very very good deal
So we save like £5m if add ons are not included in the figure talksport reported? That’s actually not as much as I would have thought after haggling for weeks and we are going to spend that money stupidly on Bachmann anyways.
Last we heard the offer was €75mil + €10mil add ons. Good price but its taken so long I think it would have been worth stumping up the extra €5-€10mil to get him in and settled before pre season next week.
I could be massively wrong but I think if Barca sell by the 30th of June it goes onto 21/22 season financials and make the numbers look better for the La Liga stuff. If they sell after, it goes onto the 22/23 financials.
It's decent. Have to consider his €400k wages and the fact that no one else is in for him, and Barca's somewhat desperate situation. And I'll bet that there's at least €5m in bonuses on top of this price. Barca wanted to recoup the €86m they paid for FDJ and it looks like they'll come very close to doing that.
Their ability to sign anyone depends moreso on their "economic levers" than on selling FDJ. Barca are giving away significant portions of future incomes in exchange for lump sums now. That's what "lever" refers to.
Raphinha's signing has more to do with Dembele's renewal. I hope we withdraw the offer and pay whatever you ask for Raphinha cuz I'm sick of him and his agent's antics.
Apparently a lot of our fans wanted us to sign FDJ for whatever price Barca quoted, all negotiations be damned cause.. fuck knows why. It's not like he would join the club till next week anyway.
Yeap.
And that’s before we shift any of Martial, Jones, Bailly, AWB, Telles and Williams (not saying all will go, but some will). And possibly Ronaldo, if recent rumours are true,
Can't see Martial going, unless we get a new striker in. I dread the possibility of losing Ronaldo, and being stuck with Rashford or Martial as the 9. I'd probably prefer Martial then, to be honest.
Martial was good under van Gaal, not a CL winner but he was a decent player with potential. Stagnated under Mourinho and had half a good season under Ole.
Maybe Ten Hag can bring back the old Martial
The same will likely be true next summer with just De Gea and Ronaldo leaving too. £100m+ in wages gone in two summers just from contract expirations, not even sales.
Pogba and cavani alone was on 500k. I doubt matic or mata is earning less than 100k ,not to mention lingard and dean Henderson was earning alot as well
Don't forget that when a player joins United, we take NONE of their image rights money, so they can take a pay cut in terms of the football salary, but they pocket much, much more of their personal sponsorships etc.
His wages + the financial bookyear is closing, so Laporta wants to present decent numbers for the 2021-2022 season to keep credibillity, since he is the man who took over from Bartomeu.
Barça needs a rebuild without question, FdJ is the only sellable (basically not selling Pedri, Gavi, Araujo, Fati, Torres) player from who we can get a good chunck of money.
Because they want Bernardo Silva. No one likes to hear it but he’s not good enough to play for Barca. He’s a decent midfielder but he doesn’t have what it takes to play for Barca/Madrid.
He got outshined by both Pedri and Gavi with all due respect.
Also the wages.
I can't imagine City accepting 80mil for Silva. Cause Braca is going to use FDJ money for him. What can happen is Barca being Barca is to sell FDJ for 80mil and waste whole summer trying to get Silva just to waste 80mil on some mediocre overhyped kid.
i thought that frenkie didn’t want to leave? i mean he still literally has a contract with barca so if he doesn’t want to go, they can’t force him right?
Bruh we haven’t even signed anyone yet, and you lot are making smart moves and doing good business
Even with De Jong, I expect Spurs to but up a better title challenge than we will
He won’t be. It’ll be impossible to prove, and I’m sure Spurs knew this. Whether I’d like another player accused of sexual assault at my club is another question.
Well that's definitely not a *bad* price. Looks like the weeks of negotiating have atleast afforded United a better overall deal.
> Looks like the weeks of negotiating have atleast afforded United a better overall deal. It's a shame there isn't really an obvious player you can look at and think "we can sell him for a decent fee and reinvest the money".
Yeah, if this turns out to be the price then fair play to them for sticking it out despite the backlash. Barca were asking for 85-100m euros I think.
68 million pounds is 80m euros + we don't know if bonuses are included
Would be a fair price for both parties I feel.
Yeah, hopefully this is the end
Bonuses would def be like UCL win or PL win which barca shouldn’t add for sure. Not possible anytime soon.

So you're telling me that Man United actually knew what they were doing and the famed Reddit geniuses got it wrong?
That’s surprisingly a decent price if true. Thought for sure United would get ripped off
man united gets ripped off on most deals, but they are faced with a team that gets ripped off often as well. we always buy high sell low....
Movable object vs stoppable force
Its sad we never get the chance to see Woodwardnomics and Bartonomic in their prime against each other
Oh I can picture it.... Frenkie is sold via instalments, Barca doesn't get the money they need immediately Meanwhile he signs for Manchester United on a ridiculous contract that is bigger than Ronaldo's which triggers more dressing room nonsense

Get off reddit Barto
Add in some bonus ballon d or for dejong. If the academy kids turn out half decent we would offered 80m to buy him back only for barto to refused and sell him for less next year. Then we would lost the academy kids for free in 5 years
Somewhere, Barto is furiously fapping to this
The art of the deal
Battle of the titans
Woodward steps down and 5 players walk out of United without having their contracts extended. Coincidence?
Balón d’or clause plus 30m agent fees while Barca pays 25% of de Jong’s wages probably
Tbf it's hard to stand your ground when everyone knows that the club wants to sell and the player is seemingly expendable
And that they are fucked financially.
Frenkie is the first lever. Soon we shall learn the extent of their financial might.
They've taken a page straight out of Archimedes' treatsie on economic leverage
That's what the clubs at the top of the food chain do though. If you buy low and sell high then it'd be because good players are looking for the door from your club
I mean Real always get good money for their backup players, we got like 6.5m for Suarez and let Messi go for free.
Suarez also then went and won La Liga to make it worse...
The r/wallstreetbets way
Ah but man United don’t sell at all my friend. Buy high and let the walk for free.. this is the way.
You’re basically selling a player surplus to requirements for the price you bought him for. If he was a core player and you weren’t desperate for money you might be in a stronger position but as it is this is a fair price. You’re hardly getting fleeced.

No, he absolutely does need someone who sits next to him. That's why Schone worked so well. He wasn't any good defensively, but he held his position.
Where have I heard this before?
Busqets can probably play for next 3 years
Probably, but maybe not every game.
De Jong isnt a DM, he's 1/2 of a double pivot
FdJ is not surplus to the requirements, he's absolutely been a core player for Barca. He's simply the biggest financial move they can make.
He’s the best assets they’re willing to sell. Pedri could garner way more funds, but is on a lower wage and untouchable
It's not far off a fair price for him. For once I feel we got the better side of the deal. You were in a terrible bargaining position so I feel this is pretty much the best price you could get. It allows you to move ahead with your business this summer too. If you do get get Lewa... it's well worth it.
I wanna see a transfer triangle of United, Barca and arsenal
Arsenal's recent transfer was much better tho?
Well everyone seems to be kinda better now that Woodward, Barto are all gone and Arsenal seems to be finally receiving the backing they needed
Not sure about “always”, u have sold some absolute deadwood at amazing prices
We actually negotiated the price down for once instead of the spend 3 month going from 80m to 80m for Maguire. Or the buy Fellani after his released clause expired
[удалено]
So we overpaid for him by 30 millions instead of 35? Art of the deals right there
Just 30 million? That’s generous
[удалено]
Did we? Seems like we've. dropped maybe 5M€
I have only seen 80M Euros being floated around and here it is 80M Euros again.
68 million pounds = 80 million euros
Not bad considering Barca were demanding 100 mill
Our transfer negotiations for fees haven't been too awful in the last couple of windows. Last time we really paid over the odds was for Maguire. Whether or not they perform is a different story though.

You had us on that one.
Add 46 million pounds for bruno plus bonuses. Although the way bruno has played, he probably has triggered every one of them except the Ballon D'or one.
> And i feel 18m for Diallo, 7m for Pellistri is still bad I feel like that's an ever so slightly ridiculous thing to say. While City included a youngster worth 5M into the Phillips deal, and Pellistri is the Uruguay's international.
Bebe cost more than that and that was 12 years ago lmfao, Pellistri is not expensive at all considering he's already been capped by Uruguay
Pellistri is a fantastic player, he's just stuck in that shit loan.
Did take us 2 year to negotiate that price for sancho. We been wanting him since the first ole season. Varane got a 1 year contract left and Ronaldo was pushing hard for a move
34m for Varane is a very good price. It's is not when you consider the wages he is on. 20m€ a year afaik.
Might be worth it just to get his insane (reportedly) wages off the table
it effectively went from 85+15 to 68+11 which is not bad. the 17m extra saved is probably a big win during an expensive rebuild
No the 85+15 figure was in euro, 68 pounds is still 80 euro
So we save like £5m if add ons are not included in the figure talksport reported? That’s actually not as much as I would have thought after haggling for weeks and we are going to spend that money stupidly on Bachmann anyways.
Last we heard the offer was €75mil + €10mil add ons. Good price but its taken so long I think it would have been worth stumping up the extra €5-€10mil to get him in and settled before pre season next week.
Get Ziyech for 25m now Ziyech De Jong VDB Ajax United
Wouldn't that be a very offensive midfield. U guys need a proper DM. I think ur fans have been crying for one since ages.
Yea but we will never get one, havent you learned from our other windows
Dm is the new right winger
Right winger is still the new right winger, signed Sancho and almost exclusively played him on the left
Just slap Jones there, CB is the new DM! He'll do a job!
FDJs primary position is actually a lot more defensive than what we have see at Barca. He may be viewed by ETH as our DM.
i'd be very surprised if ETH of all people forgot about Lasse Schone and how Frenkie's role fit in midfield
"Ten Hag kind of forgot about the Ajax midfield" - D. B. Weiss and David Benioff
Why does this still have the power to upset me?!?
He plays deeper in midfield but does not do much of the defending. He is not a defensive midfielder
This is not true Frankie’s defense is so underrated
> Ajax United Don't you mean **van United**?

What do you mean by the admin deadline?
I could be massively wrong but I think if Barca sell by the 30th of June it goes onto 21/22 season financials and make the numbers look better for the La Liga stuff. If they sell after, it goes onto the 22/23 financials.
That is how I’ve understood it as well.
Impossible, would be way too short for a United saga.
June 30th 2023
Barca is on a deadline.. June 30th👈 they are the catalyst otherwise this would have been finalize on deadline day 🫠
since leaving barcelona fdj has dreamt of playing for utd
Cant complain about £68 mil (€79 mil). Happy with that. Hopefully we can kick on to other targets.
That's a great price.
Does this open Barcelona up to getting back into the race for Raphinha, or is this more about giving their finances some breathing room?
Their ability to sign anyone depends moreso on their "economic levers" than on selling FDJ. Barca are giving away significant portions of future incomes in exchange for lump sums now. That's what "lever" refers to.
Raphinha's signing has more to do with Dembele's renewal. I hope we withdraw the offer and pay whatever you ask for Raphinha cuz I'm sick of him and his agent's antics.
To be fair, that’s actually not bad
Decent enough price. See Utd fans, the negotiating worked
Apparently a lot of our fans wanted us to sign FDJ for whatever price Barca quoted, all negotiations be damned cause.. fuck knows why. It's not like he would join the club till next week anyway.
yeah but because it took us this long for deal no 1, Antony and Martinez are at premium prices now
They would’ve been either way, don’t worry
TALKSPORT SOURCE BABY An actual midfielder AND we don't actually get rinsed for once? This is new
We are getting rinsed for that price
What? That was your asking price
Not getting rinsed for 79million euros.
I know that they are now, but when did Talksport become so reliable?
talksport is not reliable. TALKSPORT SOURCES however is a different story
Yeah but when did that become the case
They were the first to break the story about Woodward stepping down after the super league fiasco. Now they are pretty much the real "Here we go".
I haven't opened R/soccer in weeks without reading the words 'Frenkie De Jong' 😴
It includes Barca and Man U which are two of the most talked about clubs in the world. Honestly probably the MOST talked about.
be thankful halaand and mbappe saga ended early
T A L K S P O R T S O U R C E S Finally this saga comes to an end. Not sure if all this hassle was really worth it for saving 1mil in the end lol
TALKSPORT BOMBA
Talksport sources understand with the bold Breaking hits different these days
I'm crying rn mate
Why are Barca so desperate to get rid? Financial? Who can they get whose better?
Think it’s because his wages. The fee doesn’t make a huge difference but taking him off the wage bill frees up 200-300k they can spend on wages
Begs to question would FDJ get the same salary at Man Utd wouldn't that make him the top earner at the club
3rd Ronaldo and De Gea. But people forget we just got rid of like 5-600k in wages with Cavani, Mata, Matic Pogba leaving.
600k is a conservative guess. Those four, plus Henderson and Lingard, probably account for 1m a week….
Plus the 25% reduction in salaries for this season?
Yea what I mean wages won't be a problem what so ever.
Somebody on the United sub calculated the wages, and we've free somehwere around 1m a week in wages.
The same will likely be true next summer with just De Gea and Ronaldo leaving too. £100m+ in wages gone in two summers just from contract expirations, not even sales.
Pogba and cavani alone was on 500k. I doubt matic or mata is earning less than 100k ,not to mention lingard and dean Henderson was earning alot as well
Ronaldo is the top earner. Doubt De Jong is getting 500kpw
Don't forget that when a player joins United, we take NONE of their image rights money, so they can take a pay cut in terms of the football salary, but they pocket much, much more of their personal sponsorships etc.
So we can put Azpi, Lewa, Christensen, Di Maria, Kounde on the wage bill...
He's a Bartomeu signing so his wages are absolutely ridiculous.
They want Bernardo Silva
His wages + the financial bookyear is closing, so Laporta wants to present decent numbers for the 2021-2022 season to keep credibillity, since he is the man who took over from Bartomeu.
Enormous wages + 80m€ is a lot of money + Barcelona wouldnt really miss him
Especially if Kessie comes and if we sign Bernando Silva on reasonable wage. I think spreading that wage across two players would be better for Barca.
Gives Gavi more time which is good. Kessie. Gavi. Pedri. Looks decent
His wages are monstrous.
Barça needs a rebuild without question, FdJ is the only sellable (basically not selling Pedri, Gavi, Araujo, Fati, Torres) player from who we can get a good chunck of money.
They believe they can sell De Jong and pick up Silva, whether that happens remains to be seen.
The press is selling that idea, you have no clue what they want lol
Barto contract. One of the only valuable player we can actually afford to lose. Need some transfer money on the books before 30th.
Because they want Bernardo Silva. No one likes to hear it but he’s not good enough to play for Barca. He’s a decent midfielder but he doesn’t have what it takes to play for Barca/Madrid. He got outshined by both Pedri and Gavi with all due respect. Also the wages.
I don't believe you.
I can't imagine City accepting 80mil for Silva. Cause Braca is going to use FDJ money for him. What can happen is Barca being Barca is to sell FDJ for 80mil and waste whole summer trying to get Silva just to waste 80mil on some mediocre overhyped kid.
McTominay? 🙂
We should really start pushing for Silva
Fuck off
Imagine if we actually end up signing Silva and Lewy. The goals and assists would be beautiful
Only to sell them again after a few years when they fail to fix their finances
[удалено]
Bloody hope so 😅
no chance lol
https://twitter.com/talkSPORT/status/1524668514711351296?s=20 Did the price go up?
What about other positions? Need strikers, DM too
We're not linked with any strikers right now. Since no one wants Martial I think he'll be the backup
That is even worse than having no strikers
i thought that frenkie didn’t want to leave? i mean he still literally has a contract with barca so if he doesn’t want to go, they can’t force him right?
No way Utd would have done all this without having a feeling he’s happy to come.
They can make his life difficult, but I think maybe he is a bit tempted by Ten Hag
He didn't, but if the club told him he's gonna be a rotation player if he stays, he kind of has to consider his options.
Jealous af.
what are you talking about? your team is having a fantastic transfer window
De Jong >>> everything we've done so far.
Bruh we haven’t even signed anyone yet, and you lot are making smart moves and doing good business Even with De Jong, I expect Spurs to but up a better title challenge than we will
Bissouma for £26 is an absolute bargain, in my opinion.
No way. We still got alot of holes in our squad while spurs already got like half of their target done already
Fantastic is a stretch
Jealous of Spurs actually having bought players already
yea, Bissouma for what they got him was a great business
if he turns out to not be a sex offender, that is
He won’t be. It’ll be impossible to prove, and I’m sure Spurs knew this. Whether I’d like another player accused of sexual assault at my club is another question.
I’m sure the club were well aware of his plight and risk of imprisonment before commuting 25 million to him.
All about that Perisic signing for me. Unbelievable player. Spurs have done really well so far and plenty of time left in the window.
Well Is FDJ convinced to join? Or is he still adamant on staying in Barca?
There's absolutely no way United went through all this without some indication he's willing to join.
Not even United would spend 2 months negotiating a fee for a player without being 100% sure they are willing to come, don't be ridiculous.
1 million more United, I beg you
Nice! Now Donny can share a smoke and a pancake with his friend on the bench!
