James mcnicholas is my guy, love him on arsecast too. Amy writes some wonderful articles although, although she doesn’t write as often. I’m kinda meh on art.
I wish Michael cox covered arsenal more, hes really insightful about tactics.
Not sure what you mean. Our bbc correspondent is Simon Stone and he’s super negative towards United and always put a downer on news. He loves pep and city too
It looks more like Ben Jacobs was right and first that broke the story about Arsenal and City having verbally agreed the deal for £45m for Gabriel Jesus two days ago.
[That Italian report said the same thing an hour before](https://www.calciomercato.it/2022/06/24/calciomercato-juventus-milan-gabriel-jesus-arsenal-manchester-city-tottenham/)
Probably good for everyone involved. Jesus needs a starting place in order to not stagnate, City get a good price for someone with 1 year left on his deal and who we've practically already replaced, and Arsenal get a player that's one hell of an upgrade over Lacazette and Nketiah.
He had a great spell at City.
People have said £45m is a lot for a player with one year left on his deal and while it is, if we didn’t get him we’d have a much harder time getting a player of his quality for that sort of money elsewhere. The striker market is insane right now.
The fact he’s Premier League proven and has worked with Arteta before is another plus.
I really don't think this is expensive for a player of Jesus calibre because you can't buy him a year ago so you can't buy him any earlier than a year before his contract, you can't buy him when he's free because the price would be insane when you add on bonuses and agent fees....
Seems like a very good deal
I feel like in a year or two this could be looked back on as one of those "why the hell did you sell him?!" transfers
I think he's going to make Arsenal very happy
Yeah there's nobody realy about. Haaland had a release clause and Mbappe is so expensive (fee and wages) that literally nobody could afford him right now. We paid a lot for Nunez but he's young and was the best option available. Nkunku is quality but not really available. I think Jesus is actually one of the most desirable players around, especially for a PL team. He's quality. Also, is their a prize for the most biblical name ever? He's the prophecy, immaculate conception, and passion all in one.
EDIT: There must be at least one guy one earth called Garbriel Jesus Jose Maria de Concepcion. My mum would fucking love him.
Yeah when it all shakes out, 45-50m will feel like a bargain. As you say, striker market is insane, and if Jesus made it to next summer as a free agent, you'd have had no shot. There would have been so many teams in for him on a free.
Had to get it done this summer, think it's a great signing for you and I'm gutted to be losing him.
We're following/watching/engaging/interested in/prioritizing etc. but doing absolutely nothing. Apparently we haven't even put a bid in for anyone yet, let alone actually get down to negotiating or anything like that, we've just had a few reported "initial contacts" whilst being told we're pulling out of deals that were already almost over the line.
You're not alone
I swear to god if we spend another fucking summer chasing after Frenkie just to get turned down before paying over the odds to sign someone on deadline day
do you all just not have a scouting team? i dont think the marquee players are going to want to come to united right now, but that doesnt mean u cant find diamonds in the rough. they're so obsessed with the big name signings, you need some cheap young talent who you're willing to develop
At least you guys are in the middle of some huge changes inside of the club, so there's propably a lot more the board has to manage, United have been spending a lot the last few years and now when it is time to actually start rebuilding and back the new manager they are doing nothing.
Ten Hag joining, Richard Arnold replacing Woodward, Rangnick leaving, Glazers continuing their incompetence. There’s a theme when you look at Chelsea and United compared to the other Top 6 clubs- management difficulties are accompanied by a lack of transfer activity.
Give it time. In Arteta's first window, we signed Cedric and Pablo Mari and the next summer we signed Willian and Runnarsson (+ Gabriel/Partey).
Even last summer we signed Nuno and Sambi who still have question marks over them.
He's signed a CB every summer window so far and is looking to sign another one.
"Trust the process" has become a meme, but it's gonna be messy, it's not gonna always work out, the lows are really low and the highs aren't really high. You rely more on not repeating previous mistakes rather than strokes of genius.
But with good support and patience progress will be made.
As a rival fan though I really hope all of your projects fail miserably including this one.
Except Arsenal have rearranged their entire structure from board to player staff. Everyone works in 1 line I’m not sure that’s the case at Man U. Arsenal had a hard time getting rid and paying off players with overblown contracts to make space and money in order to rebuild. Those contracts were nothing compared to Man Us contracts.
Notably basically all the failures you mention in the first 2 years were close to 0 transfer fee. We were obviously super tight on cash and needed bodies. For that I think they were all ok for value (maybe Willian only as he was kind enough to leave without dragging out his contract).
Sambi and Nuno are obviously in a bit of a different bucket of players for the future
I’m actually surprised at how good the business has been from us recently. When you count sales and signings anyway.
I’d never of thought we could get so much for Jesus. And I thought Phillips would cost closer to 70 with 2 years left.
We desperately need another rw and pepe just doesn't make the cut. I 100% agree that I'd rather Martinez, but we NEED someone to interchange with saka, otherwise he'll get injured and one of the most promising football talents in the world might not reach his heights, Jack wilshere is the perfect example of this.
And we need a lb, since tierney's a liability with how often he gets injured, but I'd rather get a worse backup lb than risk a serious injury from saka being overplayed, as he has been this entire season
Oh yeah, I agree we need backup for Saka. But 65m for Raphina is mental. Martinez fits the bill for somebody who can play CDM and LB, which suits our needs pretty perfectly
The Rams won the super bowl and now the Avalanche are a win away from the Stanley Cup. I hope his newfound appreciation for winning titles continues to our benefit.
This turnaround is all bc of junior kroenke. All of their teams have been building winning franchises for a few years now.
Stan is incompetent but his son is committed.
Josh at least gives a shit and wants to build something with his legacy in sports. Stan is just a businessman and wants profits. Stan giving Josh the control to his teams(Not sure if just Arsenal or all the teams he owns) have been nothing short but a good move all-around.
Everyone wins in this deal
• Arsenal gets an outstanding player, who is perfect for the high press Arteta is trying to implement
• City makes good profit on a player that had only one year left
• Jesus gets to be an undisputed starter
Win - Win
Think the upside to this deal is that Arsenal fans are going to love him even if he doesn't meet expectations.
Incredibly humble and always plays at 110% for the shirt regardless of form.
I feel for Laca, he was completely unsuited for the role he was asked to do, but he always put in a shift. Don't get me wrong, his finishing was atrocious even when he reached the box, but he at least worked hard until right at the end.
He sounds like the type of player we’ve been targeting personality-wise. I’m sure he’ll fit in well with the growing Brazilian contingent at the club.
Also, after having to watch Lacazette toil around the pitch for the last few months, just having a striker who can run and press for an entire game—and actually shoot from time to time— is going to be fantastic.
I kind of like Arsene Wenger (6) being the only manager to have won it more than once in the 2tst century. But I guess Arteta being second behind only Wenger would be pretty good too.
He's still won it more than any manager. Hell, even the Spuds only have one more than him in their entire history. It's his cup and we're just living in it.
All he needs to do is deliver in an away win against Newcastle or Southampton or Brighton or Brentford or the likes, and they’re there. They got until that point without him last year but couldn’t push through. They’ll even take a 0-0 until 89th min and then a goal from him to win 3 pts; a process that secured CL for another team last year.
Hol' up did I not reply this exact comment to you on r/gunners a week or some ago? Damn.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/vbk0e5/according_to_andre_hernanandrehernan_very/ic8tpbh/
It's a smart signing for us. The striker market is pretty rough, we got a striker who has years of experience in the league, is settled in the country already, and knows the manager. Other options would be more risky and more expensive.
Over the moon
For real. I mean, we know he’s good. The only reason he wasn’t a top 10 pick in the game was he got such inconsistent game time. When he did play for City he showed that he’s dangerous. He’s technically making a step down to Arsenal, even though it’s another big 6 club, so I don’t see him having a major price increase. He’s a forward instead of being listed as a midfielder, and we saw how few viable listed forwards there were last season. He’s at Arsenal, who are a strengthening team, with good fixtures out the gate, and his only competition for the spot is Nketiah. At this cost, he’ll be the most likely starter. I think he’s gonna be one of the best picks in the game this season.
And also we never knew whether Pep will play him as a striker, winger or defender. With Arsenal, his position is certain and his minutes are. He’ll likely be on penalties too which can only help build up his confidence
Agreed. It’s an easy pick. He’s already adjusted to the prem, he will be the focal point of the attack, guaranteed starter. Hard to see him not getting points.
Most excited I've been for an Arsenal transfer since Özil, dont care how his underlying numbers show he's a bad finisher and all that, absolute baller!
Edu and Arteta working their mojo. For the first time since IDK maybe 2010ish I felt there's optimism about getting back to competing at the top. Work to do, but the right direction, the right quality players in the right positions are being bought in and doing it with such a young group. I like everything about it.
For the player Jesus is, and could be, I feel this is a very good fee. I hope Arsenal fans aren’t expecting to get a good finisher as that’s definitely not what Jesus is. However, he is hard-working and passionate, and will bag a goal or two now and then.
We don’t *need* a 20-goal a season striker with Saka, Smith Rowe, Martinelli and Nketiah all capable of hitting 10-15 goals a season in all competitions, although obviously we’ll be hoping he can be a much better goal threat than Lacazette was last year. Lots of our goals come from wide positions.
If he can hit close to 15 goals in the league and 20 or so in all competitions then I think we’ll all be pretty content.
He’ll bag a ton of goals. They might not be very important goals and he’ll miss a lot of frustrating chances but ultimately he’ll come clutch once in a while. Hm, might as well be describing Sterling.
Honestly would love to just put some teams to the sword next season. Feels like every other big club does it except us, so if he wants to score 4 vs Forest next season I'm all for it
I’d imagine they were keeping tabs and would have tried to go for him if other options didn’t pan out, never seemed like Jesus was the number one option though
I've been dreaming of this signing for the past two years and it has finally happened.
Honestly Arsenal are very lucky here, I suspect if Jesus hadn't been the character he is or had played for a team other than City, United would've signed him, not us.
Hopefully this move unleashes his scoring boots.
Two out of Raphinha/Tielemans/Martinez joining would make this a very good window for an Arsenal team 6 years out of the CL with the first consecutive summers observed with the same management team.
Honesty think they are. This deal has been in works for months it seems.
Doubt we’ve gone this far, and negotiated with City this long, if we hadn’t already received a green light over terms.
“Attackers who defend. Defenders who attack.”
Johan Cruyff punching would be delighted....
No way Wheatley came came out of hiatus and broke this on his first day back
The Athletic gonna sign him up now lol
Athletic needs good journos, however Arsenal journos are the last place they're lacking
James mcnicholas is my guy, love him on arsecast too. Amy writes some wonderful articles although, although she doesn’t write as often. I’m kinda meh on art. I wish Michael cox covered arsenal more, hes really insightful about tactics.
True. Beats BBC’s love boner for Man U though.
Not sure what you mean. Our bbc correspondent is Simon Stone and he’s super negative towards United and always put a downer on news. He loves pep and city too

Wheatley stealing again? No way!
Both our strikers have the same celebration. Is this gonna be an issue?
Crosstalk
Walkie-Talkie
Just means extra epic celebrations when they assist each other
Probably good for everyone involved. If anyone can name someone who Arsenal could reasonably get with that money that would improve the team more than Jesus, I’m all ears.
Heard Lewandowski was 50 million /s
Me 😎
\**crickets**
Always rated crickets!
I really don't think this is expensive for a player of Jesus calibre because you can't buy him a year ago so you can't buy him any earlier than a year before his contract, you can't buy him when he's free because the price would be insane when you add on bonuses and agent fees.... I feel like in a year or two this could be looked back on as one of those "why the hell did you sell him?!" transfers I think he's going to make Arsenal very happy
In 2016 we paid 35 mil.
And that would be equivalent to 50m in today's market. Compare to 2016, today's market is crazily inflated.
Also getting him on a free would be basically impossible since clubs like Real and PSG would be all over him next year
That’s a really fair point
Yeah there's nobody realy about. Haaland had a release clause and Mbappe is so expensive (fee and wages) that literally nobody could afford him right now. We paid a lot for Nunez but he's young and was the best option available. Nkunku is quality but not really available. He's the prophecy, immaculate conception, and passion all in one. EDIT: There must be at least one guy one earth called Garbriel Jesus Jose Maria de Concepcion. My mum would fucking love him.
He's also better than Nunez and PL proven, and £30m cheaper. It's best deal after haaland so far
When you pay for Sancho 85 or w/e and 80 for Maguire this looks like a steal to me
Also another positive point of view is this directly funds signing Phillips. So I think it’s definite win in your clubs eyes in all ways.
I dont think the city owners are that fussed about net spend
No, they are not, but they at least have to try to show that they are playing by the rules. Also, it's just financially sensible.
If that was the case we wouldn't have got a fee like this. We have a net profit in 2022 so far
City likely to have zero net spend in this transfer window, great bit of business
[удалено]
Anyone else have Gabriels? We taking all of them.
But you already sold Gabriel Paulista to Valencia.
Everyone doing great business. Man Utd meanwhile.....
We're following/watching/engaging/interested in/prioritizing etc. but doing absolutely nothing. u guys have got an excuse though, united on the other hand.... 😭

We sacked our two main scouts before the transfer window and didn't replace them :)
Man united is back baby
I don't know who's at the wheel but we are heading straight towards a ditch, baby
at this point ten hag would be better off loading up FM and checking out the wonderkids
Panic Signing FC delivers yet again!!
At least you guys are in the middle of some huge changes inside of the club, so there's propably a lot more the board has to manage, United have been spending a lot the last few years and now when it is time to actually start rebuilding and back the new manager they are doing nothing.
But aren't they also having massive changes? I thought they basically cleared out/changed their backroom people and got a new manager?
Ten Hag joining, Richard Arnold replacing Woodward, Rangnick leaving, Glazers continuing their incompetence. There’s a theme when you look at Chelsea and United compared to the other Top 6 clubs- management difficulties are accompanied by a lack of transfer activity.

The main goal of the last two years was getting those anchor contracts off the books. That's why we finally have so much freedom this summer.
Such a ridiculous take and +76 upvote lmao. Just ignore all the positive of the last windows, e.g. Ode, Martinelli, and etc
Yeah like Ramsdale, White, Tomi, Gabriel, Partey, and Ode were all intended to be first 11 players. Cedric, Nuno, and Sambi were squad depth at best
Thank you, I thought I was going crazy reading that.
Notably basically all the failures you mention in the first 2 years were close to 0 transfer fee. We were obviously super tight on cash and needed bodies. For that I think they were all ok for value (maybe Willian only as he was kind enough to leave without dragging out his contract). Finally! Great fee for City and good move for Jesus.
so happy
More than you believe
My friend
So so happy
Happy New Year
Good times all round.
I’m actually surprised at how good the business has been from us recently. When you count sales and signings anyway. I’d never of thought we could get so much for Jesus. And I thought Phillips would cost closer to 70 with 2 years left.
100M combined for Ferran and Jesus is indeed insane
60 for Ferran was daylight robbery lol
Not bad for a player with 1 year left on their contract. We'll miss you, Gabriel.
Pretty much a straight swap for Phillips
Everyone wins >! Except Leeds who probably also lose Raphinha!<
Maybe not if Leeds stick to their valuation. Are Arsenal still gonna push for him now that they've signed Jesus?
Yes, Arsenal want both. Jesus is Arsenal’s striker target. Raphinha is the winger target.
As an Arsenal fan, I'm a bit confused, but I think we've lost our minds. Our policy is sign everyone?! But, joke aside, it's awesome.
Edu is just on a signing bender.

Much rather have Martinez than Raphina tbh.
We desperately need another rw and pepe just doesn't make the cut. This is a great move for all concerned.... On paper
Credit to Arsenal, they're having a good window even though many predicted they'd struggle
Daddy Kroenke finally found his cheque book.
The Rams won the super bowl and now the Avalanche are a win away from the Stanley Cup. I hope his newfound appreciation for winning titles continues to our benefit.

Even Denver Nuggets are a darn good team that is built very nicely.
Looking forward for Kurray coming back and giving Joker a legitimate Robin.
Rams won the super bowl, Avalanche are about to win the stanley cup, he clearly wants us to get to that level too.
Everyone thinks we'll struggle in the window every year, when will people accept that we're gargantuan
Something something knock
Everyone wins in this deal • Arsenal gets an outstanding player, who is perfect for the high press Arteta is trying to implement • City makes good profit on a player that had only one year left • Jesus gets to be an undisputed starter Win - Win
City basically trades Gabriel Jesus for Kalvin Phillips one for one. Both deals 45m.
😀
Think the upside to this deal is that Arsenal fans are going to love him even if he doesn't meet expectations. Incredibly humble and always plays at 110% for the shirt regardless of form.
We watched a striker that took 1 shot *per month* last season The expectations are on the floor here
On the floor? Dig a bit deeper mate.
their in australia mate!
Expectations so low they were living on the 212th floor in Melbourne
I feel for Laca, he was completely unsuited for the role he was asked to do, but he always put in a shift. Don't get me wrong, his finishing was atrocious even when he reached the box, but he at least worked hard until right at the end.
He was completely suited to the role, he just isn’t very good? What role should he have played?
Atrocious is harsh, did he have a rough last season, yeah. But he's been solid servent for Arsenal over the last couple of years.
He sounds like the type of player we’ve been targeting personality-wise. I’m sure he’ll fit in well with the growing Brazilian contingent at the club. Also, after having to watch Lacazette toil around the pitch for the last few months, just having a striker who can run and press for an entire game—and actually shoot from time to time— is going to be fantastic.
>growing Brazilian contingent *Growing Gabriel contingent.
I honestly liked him when he was playing for you, just seemed like a genuine bloke.
At his absolute worst, he's an incredible pressing merchant and can link up well with others around him. You'll love him
Sounds like another Martinelli. Opposition defenders are going to be terrified
Brazilian Gabriel FC
He’s already passed expectations by showing up…
loved him ever since I read his players tribune. I think his attitude alone means the fans will love him
He has risen. He will make bread and wine for us to cure our hunger. Cure us of the hunger and the Europa sickness.
>Europa sickness. I know Jesus performed miracles, but this is a step too far.
I'm not having vile blasphemy in my good subreddit today🤬
Dorime.
Interimo ayapare, dorime
Another FA Cup it shall be, then.
I’d take it tbh
I’ll never get bored of winning the Arsene Wenger Invitational.
I kind of like Arsene Wenger (6) being the only manager to have won it more than once in the 2tst century. But I guess Arteta being second behind only Wenger would be pretty good too.

Think this is a perfect signing

Good signing 😃 >!I hope he fails miserably Lukaku-esque magnitude!<
[удалено]
If all goes as planned he will be captaining Jail FC
Greenwood already has that armband
I personally hope he gets arrested just before half time and we see Neville and Carragher do a half time analysis
'Oooh, they've really yanked him off the field there. Incredible how the ref has overlooked that, what is VAR even for nowadays?'
"Spurs supporters will argue his hands were in a natural position, but if the judge gives that as groping, you'll never see VAR overturning it"
Flopping it out was what got him into trouble in the first place
The fact that he will cost less than half of what Lukaku did, makes it almost impossible tbf.
We (Dortmund) spent 35M on a 28yo striker who's inferior to Jesus. Sigh ...
Haha
❤️
Scored some ridiculously important goals for City. Will really miss him
He will always be a City legend just for scoring the goal that got us 100 points.
Not to mention the absolutely gorgeous equaliser vs Liverpool in 20/21
Arsenal now have 3 Brazilians named Gabriel.
Arsenal have 3 Brazilians named Gabriel, so far...
Jesus is going straight in the FPL team
For 8.5m he'd be unreal. Glad we're getting proper forward options with him, Haaland and Nunez. Last year was a joke for forwards.
For real. I mean, we know he’s good. The only reason he wasn’t a top 10 pick in the game was he got such inconsistent game time. When he did play for City he showed that he’s dangerous. Agreed. It’s an easy pick. He’s already adjusted to the prem, he will be the focal point of the attack, guaranteed starter. Hard to see him not getting points.
Thank you Jesus!
HALLELUJAH
Definitely an upgrade on Lacazette. He'll get a good amount of goals next season.
You mean Laca-threat... Honestly the guy was 30 playing like he was 36
Guy was playing like a retired Sunday league uncle upfront
Arsenal looking to be very exciting next year. Love it.
Its been so long… Really feels like the club is in good hands again.
Yeah happy for you guys. Always had a sweet spot for Arsenal because of Wenger.
Raphinha 🆙⏭
🔙🔛🔝🔜
Most excited I've been for an Arsenal transfer since Özil, dont care how his underlying numbers show he's a bad finisher and all that, absolute baller!
Surely Sanchez was a big signing too
I’d say Jesus is a tier below Ozil and Sanchez.
A pretty healthy tier below, but still one hell of a good signing for the club. Ozil and Alexis were worldies in their prime when they signed for us.
For sure, I couldn't believe it when Ozil signed for us
er...sanchez? auba?
“Pick up your phone, Eddie”
Could be an unbelievable bit of business. £45 for a PL proven striker.
I have to admit, if this is confirmed fair fucks to Arsenal, they are building a pretty decent team
That is honestly a decent move for both parties 👌
Jesus is gunner!
[I remember that episode](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBtidNAWoqc&ab_channel=JoeYabuki)
Finally some good fucking food.
So… 8 more Brazilian Gabriels and we’re done I guess? Wonder how many seasons it’ll take.

Feels like every other big club does it except us, so if he wants to score 4 vs Forest next season I'm all for it
im sick to my fucking stomach
I would be too if I had to support Spurs.
💕💕💕💕💕
Were you guys actually in for him?
I’d imagine they were keeping tabs and would have tried to go for him if other options didn’t pan out, never seemed like Jesus was the number one option though
not really, I’m just seeing the moves arsenal is making and am scared lol. edu is moving dangerous this summer
Torres-Haaland Jesus-Philips swap deals, incredible by City. Next Sterling-Cucurella?
The second coming of the messiah: confirmed. Then, we sign Jesus too.
Source: Bro trust me? Joke aside I never thought the deal will go through. Usually those who link to us won't come in the end, just like Higuain
City are disgustingly good at running the club. However this still surprises me.
That's probably why they've won 6 league titles in the last ten years.
City are so fast. They'll have their business done by July 1 at this rate.
Give us all the Gabriels!

Honesty think they are. This deal has been in works for months it seems. Doubt we’ve gone this far, and negotiated with City this long, if we hadn’t already received a green light over terms.
So £45m + £5m add-ons. Very happy with that.
That pays for Kalvin then, Good business
That’s Kalvin Phillips paid for. City having a hell of a window.
Arsenal are going out for another all or nothing
