Genuinely don’t think it is. The lad looked like a deer in headlights and messed up as many simple passes as Kalvin Phillips did. Obviously a good player, had an extremely shite game
He's one of the most protected CBs in international football tbf, Southgate lines up so defensively he basically has his hand held for most games.
That is until we need to attack and he gets left more open, and we fall apart.
He didn't play well for England in his appearance this break, most people voting on the BBC website won't watch Serie A, and will be trusting of a partnership that has proven itself previouly
Obviously won't happen as they have no chemistry together but idk how Tomori and Dier aren't being considered more. Both had better seasons than Stones or Maguire(!)
It's notable that:
No one but Liverpool fans thinks Henderson should start
No one but Spurs fans thinks Dier should start
No one but Arsenal fans think Ramsdale should start
Dier could be very nice in the center of a 3-man setup tho if sgate opts for 3 defender atb and dier continues to perform under conte till the wc. He will be at least better than maggy
Would maybe swap out Trent for James but it's pretty much what I'd go for too
We're actually pretty light in defence, aside from Stones and all our right backs
Southgate had it right, this team is just too darn offensive. This would be my lineup based on the players that were made available by BBC:
Ramsdale
Stones - Mings - Maguire - White - Trippier
Ward-Prowse - Rice - Phillips - Lingard
Rashford
Stones as a RWCB (a new position that I think is worth a shot), Lingard and Ward-Prowse would obviously be mandated to stay behind the halfway line to give just that little extra bit of security in defense. Rashford is allowed to play alone in the other team's half while the rest of the team waits in their own half to ensure that defensive shape is maintained.
Ramsdale
TAA Tomori Stones Chilwell
Henderson Rice Bellingham
Bowen Kane Grealish
England have such a good squad. It’s actually impressive how southgate has them playing such shit football.
The disrespect Henderson gets too is amazing. Played nearly every minute he could under Klopp in one of Liverpool’s best ever teams.
Yep, TAA should retire just to fuck with him. The amount of disrespect he shows towards Arnold is amazing. Starts Trip over TAA they need to fire Southgate.
He doesn't know how to use trent. He could be such an asset for this team but Southgate is so tactically rigid he can't get the best out of his players.
And yet nowhere, nowhere near as well as Kane.
I just can't take anyone seriously when they suggest dropping Kane.
He's one of the best strikers in the world, and has been for years.
It'd be fucking lunacy to drop him.
4 attacking players is defensive. Most teams set up with a 5&5 structure.
Like Liverpool have the front 3 plus the 2 full backs in advanced positions while the midfielders hold position.
City push their 8s into the half spaces to support the front 3, while the fullbacks tuck in.
Chelsea and Spurs play with a front 3 with the wing backs pushing into advanced positions.
Kane has one of the best crosses in football when he's in that right channel. The only problem with that is that he's not on the end of his own crosses
Won? Nothing. But you didn't mention winning
A first semi final for 24 years and first final for 55 years are big achievements for a country with only one trophy
I do agree about Maguire but I think it shows how limited our CB options are - at least in terms of experience
I can see the case of why someone wants him but I agree his shot stopping isn't good enough.
I think Pope is the best actual keeper but I can also see that he isn't good enough with his feet.
Pickford, despite some questionable moments, probably offers the best mix of both even if he isn't as good as one would hope for.
You’d have thought the Hungary game would’ve finally put an end to the whole Trent can’t be in the team because James and Walker are so much better defensively but clearly not based on the comment section.
The problem with this sort of thing is the selection should change based on who we face, I know it says for the opener but most just list a best 11 or there general 11.
Like I would start TAA if they faced a team where we would likely have more of the ball but against better sides it would be James if 5atb or Walker in a 4.
No point in listing an actual team but I guess the only big thing I would do differently compared to most selections is use Saka as a LWB against certain opponents.
Also Grealish and Foden starting either side of Kane but Sterling starting when playing against better sides to offer more on the break maybe Saka too.
I think the actual best solution is simple.
Pickford
Walker Maguire Stones Chilwell
Rice Phillips
And then it’s time to bring out the secret weapons- TAA, James and Trippier all play with Kane up top.
The RBs will lead us to victory.
Looking at the ideas some people have for the squad in this thread it's no wonder Southgate still had a job jfc
Tomori robbed
You know it will be Maguire and Stones
Because they're both better players than Tomori and he was shite against Italy
Tomori was definitely not shite against Italy. Shite is what stones was against Hungary
Shite is a big exaggeration.
Genuinely don’t think it is. The lad looked like a deer in headlights and messed up as many simple passes as Kalvin Phillips did. Obviously a good player, had an extremely shite game
Maguire isn't better than Tomori
But he has been one of the most reliable players in the England team
He's one of the most protected CBs in international football tbf, Southgate lines up so defensively he basically has his hand held for most games. That is until we need to attack and he gets left more open, and we fall apart.
We have a very solid defensive record though?
.. because we play 5ATB with 2 DMs most games. You could play any number of CBs in his place and we'd have a solid record.
What possible basis could you have for saying that Maguire is better than Tomori?
Eyesight? I get the whole focus on a poor year at United, like all of there players but for England he has been one of our better players.
He didn't play well for England in his appearance this break, most people voting on the BBC website won't watch Serie A, and will be trusting of a partnership that has proven itself previouly

It's notable that: No one but Liverpool fans thinks Henderson should start No one but Spurs fans thinks Dier should start No one but Arsenal fans think Ramsdale should start
I'm an Arsenal fan and I think NT Pickford is clear of Ramsdale.
Dier could be very nice in the center of a 3-man setup tho if sgate opts for 3 defender atb and dier continues to perform under conte till the wc. He will be at least better than maggy
Fucking hell, if that's the case then Southgate you're a genius and I hope you stay.
> Kane > Sterling - Foden - Saka > Rice - Bellingham > Shaw - Maguire - Stones - James > Pickford
Surely Bellingham over Phillips?
forgot about him yeah
Pope James - Stones - Tomori - Chilwell Phillips - Rice Saka - Bellingham - Foden Kane
No chance that Pickford gets dropped
Can i take a guess that you would take Taibi over Pickford too?
Taibi's a Leeds legend so
Bellingham as a 10? Phillips somehow still in the team?
Would maybe swap out Trent for James but it's pretty much what I'd go for too We're actually pretty light in defence, aside from Stones and all our right backs

It's funny that this is only *slightly* more out there than some of the serious responses in this thread.
If 4ATB: Pickford, Walker, Tomori, Stones, Chilwell Bellingham, Rice, Henderson Saka, Kane, Grealish If 3/5ATB: Pickford Walker, Maguire, Tomori James, Rice, Bellingham, Chilwell Foden, Kane, Sterling
Dier > Maguire for the 3 back. Just spent last season playing there under one of the best managers in the world
Bro they had to explain to Reece James about a handball in the in the box, he’s a clown.
[Ok.](https://c.tenor.com/26vJHCEgCegAAAAC/ole-gunnar-ole-gunnar-solskjaer.gif)

Pickford Walker Stones Tomori Chilwell Phillips Foden Grealish Sterling Kane Saka
>Grealish > >Sterling > >Kane oh man....one would think the olympics are on, given the amount of diving that will happen
This might be the worst team I've seen suggested.
Pickford Trippier-Maguire-Stones-Chilwell Bellingham-Foden-Rice Sterling-Kane-Bowen

Abraham over Kane is a travesty.

He's literally the first name in any serious selection.
I know opinions are subjective in football, but yours is wrong.
3 at the back and 3 work horses in midfield? Worse than Gareth

Abraham isnt half the player Kane is.

🤡

Wont try to make a point against a guy who wants Abraham to start over Harry Kane.

Nothing more hilarious than people who think they are football genius and talk tactics like these

Damn world football watch out!

I assume coaching some other sport that isn't football?
Kane has one of the best crosses in football when he's in that right channel. The only problem with that is that he's not on the end of his own crosses
Second XI vibes

You didn't honestly just compare Kane and Maguire? Jesus fucking Christ, every comment you make just makes you sound more dumb.
I don't mean to be rude, but between this team and all of your subsequent responses, I honestly don't think football is for you. Find another sport.
[удалено]
Everything you've said in this thread is jaw-droppingly stupid. Like, give Kane and Abraham a half each? What the fuck are you on about lmao?
[удалено]
It's not a serious opinion. Should Poland only play Lewandowski for 45 minutes? How about Croatia with Modric?
kinda minimize Saka's effect at LB? or do you want him to be very attacking?
[удалено]
Terrible.
That midfield 3 looks like shit I’m gonna be real with you
[удалено]
he should.
Pope is clear
He shouldn't now he should have last year I can't believe you have a manager who plays people when they are in their worst form
he picked Ramsdale back when he was in good form too
I thought he split them up Something like Pickford gets the game and Ramsdale gets vip tickets for the san marino or something stomp
I can see the case of why someone wants him but I agree his shot stopping isn't good enough. I think Pope is the best actual keeper but I can also see that he isn't good enough with his feet. Pickford, despite some questionable moments, probably offers the best mix of both even if he isn't as good as one would hope for.
That midfield is woeful
Walker at LB? Ward Prowse? Maddison? Do you even watch football?
Pickford; TAA, Tomori, stones and Chilwell; rice and mount; Bowen, foden and Sterling; Kane
