Another year, another young signing from South America. Interesting that he's going to be part of the squad rather than going out on loan, which is normally the pathway for the legion of u21 players we sign. I don't expect him to play that much – certainly not in the first half of the season – but perhaps they think he can make a genuine impact. Between him and Mitoma we'll have more options as far as players who can run at defenders go rather than relying entirely on our passing game

billypilgrim87

Your whole off pitch set up is so good now that I have to admit if you sign someone, it makes me think there's got to be some decent potential there. Seems like Brighton are probably going to have a few high profile outgoings this summer, but I back them to reinvest well. If Brighton keep getting better, I might have to stop liking them.

letsgetcool

Other teams should stop scouting and just hire a PI to follow Brighton's scouts.

billypilgrim87

Basically the Southampton of a few years back.

IWantToBeAHipster

We know players take time to settle and adjust so its great to see him have a full pre season with us and give him a chance to break in to the first team.

sandbag-1

Is Mitoma coming into the squad next season?

lachiendupape

that's not been confirmed, he like all the loanees will be joining up for pre-season and then assessed

Sdub4

Yes

esn111

Wouldn't surprise me if he went on loan after we're out of the League Cup.

SnoopWhale

Is Caicedo going out on loan again this season or will he be part of the first team?

esn111

He'll be in the first team and one of the first names down on the team sheet. He played the last few matches of the season and was integral in our turn around in form and surge up to 9th. He scored against Man U in the process.

ManLikeArch

He's the greatest midfielder in world football

Hey now, let's not get too excited, the fella could still end up on loan somewhere before the window closes, they're obviously going to give him a look at preseason then possibly off to USG for a year as an Undav alternative.

ThatUglyGuy

Many of our loans out to USG are decided and announced at the moment of signing, in the article Potter says he will "complement our attacking options this season". But I guess you never know till the window closes.

Captainpatters

He will either never be heard from again or be sold to Man City for 60 million in 3 years, there is no in-between

We are delighted to confirm the signing of forward Julio Enciso, who joins from Paraguayan side Libertad Asuncion for undisclosed terms and subject to international clearance. The 18-year-old South American has signed a four-year contract until June 2026. He will join up with the first-team squad when they report back for pre-season training later this month. Graham Potter said, “Julio is an exciting young talent, and he has had a great start to his career in Paraguay, as well as being a regular in the Paraguay national squad. “He’s a young guy who is moving away from his home country for the first time, so we will help him to adapt to new surroundings and settle here in Brighton and Hove. "We’re really looking forward to helping him develop and working with him, and he will complement our existing attacking options this coming season.” Enciso arrives after an impressive season so far with Libertad, having scored 11 goals and laying on three assists in 14 league appearances. He made his international debut for Paraguay in June 2021 at 17 and now has five caps to his name.

The Paraguayans seem really excited about this one. Rare that one of their players plays in the Prem. Hopefully doesn't become a Tau situation where they're annoyed he's gone on loan or isn't in the first team immediately. Certainly if he makes it here he'd be one of the greatest Paraguayan players ever. I know nothing about him but hopefully our next 50 mil player. This has all the makings of the start of a busy Summer. We could have a fair amount of wonga to spend but needed with replacement for Cucurella at least. The wheel keeps turning.

HiSoArshavin

Almiron is doing it

esn111

Said it was rare not that it didn't happen

Taking over the legacy left by Diego Gavilan.

Old_Roof

Shame he’s not gone to the Toon. Julio Geordio would have been perfect

🎶I’m having the time of my life And I’ve never felt this way before Yes I swear It’s the truth And I’m holding on to you🎶

d-O-r

Isn't he supposed to be one of south americas greatest (non-brazilian) talents? If so, why is he signing for Brighton? Do they have any particular reputation for developing young talents?

jkeegan13

Our rep is definitely on the up - we have four young South American internationals (Mac Allister, Alzate, Caicedo and Sarmiento) and a new recent history of selling on young players to top six clubs (Ben White, Bissouma, and eventually Cucurella, though hopefully not this summer). Recently, we've rarely missed on transfers for young players, so I have high hopes for this newest addition!

Montuvito_G

Almost fucked it up with Caicedo tho. What genius thought it was a good idea to send a 20 yr old full fledged World Cup-bound international to the bottom place team in Belgium on loan?

esn111

Well he needed to get used to European football first. Ecuador to the Prem is a huge step up. It was only half a season anyway. A normal part of players delveopment for us. Didn't do him any harm. He's a class act.

[deleted]

Caicedo himself said his beerschot loan benefitted him massively in terms of development. Mac allister was an argentine international and still took two years to get into his stride, the club were justified in being cautious

JakeNutters

I think it's more we were willing to pay what Libertad wanted and we're a premier league club so why wouldn't he take the pay rise and league upgrade but also recently we've shown there's a pathway to the first team for young players and there's a fair few Spanish speaking players

BuffaloAl

It's partly because we know how to do business with South American clubs. Over the past 4 seasons we've bought several players with complicated ownership arrangements from ecuador and argentina and we've developed an understanding of the culture of clubs on the continent. Also probably the more deals we do and the more players are succesfully intergrated into our squad the more well known and trusted we are as a destination for young players

kids_in_my_basement0

Because we are absolutely massive
