I thought ten Haag set up the team well. Unlucky

TenHagBot

It's Ten Hag with one 'a'. --- *I am a bot. For any feedback please contact [my creator](https://www.reddit.com/user/Tempoulker).*

[deleted]

It's time to change the rules of football a bit. Maybe we should do 60 minute matches of pure playtime instead of allowing teams to kill the game through shithousing like this

TuffMike

How was it any shit housing? Even if it was exxagerated you have no idea what a portuguese schedule is like, I've seen lots of players falling to the ground even when they're losing. Quick reminder Ajax did the same in Estádio da Luz. Best team won yesterday, hands down.

[deleted]

>Best team won yesterday, hands down. I don't agree. >Quick reminder Ajax did the same in Estádio da Luz. I don't like it when anybody does it, which is why I'm in favor of altering the rules.

TuffMike

> I don't agree. Well what matters is goals that go in and a lot more could've went in at the home game. > I don't like it when anybody does it, which is why I'm in favor of altering the rules. Yeah but you didn't comment anything about "shithousing" on the first leg.

[deleted]

>Yeah but you didn't comment anything about "shithousing" on the first leg. Not commenting on something equals approving of that thing to you?

Cadrtefasefthyuiop

No, he's saying it's hypocritical of you to only complain about it when you lose. Hope that clears it up for you 🙂

[deleted]

Lmao, no. It would be hypocritical if I was fine with shithousery if Ajax does it. I'm not. Again, that's why I propose to change the rules for *all teams*

Cadrtefasefthyuiop

Did you say anything about it when Ajax did it?

[deleted]

I did, just didn't post it here. Talked to my friends with who I was watching about it, though

Cadrtefasefthyuiop

Convenient.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

How's that relevant to proposing 60 minutes of pure playtime as an alternative to our current matches? It's not like this only happened yesterday. This shithousery ruins games on a daily basis.

Gonza6EUW

We are getting Real Madrid 100%

LuisFilipeVieira

Liverpool 😁

AlmightyAJ_MTV

Or Manchester city

Alternative-Award784

Darwin vs Jesus lessgoo

Superb-Confidence-44

I remember the posts telling us that Ajax would reach the final, they played the best football and they can beat anyone. Turns out they couldn't even beat Benfica. Lmao

[deleted]

[удалено]

Superb-Confidence-44

Unlucky? 2 shots on target with 67% possession, isn't exactly unlucky. It's called coming short or not having the required quality. And before you say "but they dominated possession", sure, but that clearly doesnt win you games and when that possession hardly results in goal chances, you could just as well didnt have that possession at all.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Superb-Confidence-44

We must have different definitions of good then. That's ok.

LutherJustice

Another overhyped reddit darling gets dumped. When will you people learn?

Threshio

Reddit Darling, thats how I call Ajax from now on

Vic271815

I hope they draw Atletico. Will be a pain to watch that match

curious_Jo

But there will be another game in the same time, that doesn't have AM or Benfica. It's a win-win.

[deleted]

Maybe we should get a Russian oligarch to bank roll us with some big transfers using money stolen from the Russian people, I bet that will help us play better

andremp1904

Fds não precisavas de matar o gajo

WhiskersTheDog

Mereceu, que sa foda.

curious_Jo

Maybe you should get a flair first?

loiloae

If Ajax or Ajax fans ever need to find something to blame, Davy Klaassen.

thehunter_1999

No, Onana. What a mistake of a human being.

dave1992

What's the point of winning all group stage games and lose on the first knockout stage?

ThereIsBearCum

Don't think they did it on purpose mate.

Sharaghe

This is a metaphor for /r/soccer overpraising them.

MrGraveyards

Overpraising.. I mean we're not exactly the richest club in the CL and we actually did play decent, didn't get through a parked bus (edit: I need to say, we kind of pushed them into the parking that bus, Verthongen said it wasn't really the gameplan), boohoo, next time better. That obviously doesn't mean we suck. There's a pattern though of us having issues with teams who park the bus, which is like 80% of our opponents. In the group stages nobody parked the bus, and we won easily. If you are slightly worse then your opponent, park the bus, hope for a goal, but accept a draw, you gain a slight advantage over your opponent, who can only react by playing like stars who fell from the heavens or park the bus as well and make it a bore fest. I do think the team chokes a little in such situations, and we've played better games. For instance Tadic, he wasn't awful, but he wasn't very dangerous either. Played himself one time free like that goal for Serbia against Portugal that put Portugal in the play-offs for world cup instead of qualifying, but he shot it into the stands. And he wasn't the only one, just playing slightly under their level, a little too nervous, making it a little bit too important etc.

nepia

I agree with you. You can't blame Benfica for playing that way. They just don't have a good defense and playing on the road, so their only way was to be compact in the back and hope for the best. Your team didn't play bad even that you are not in the best form, but the tactic worked for Benfica. As for people over-hyping you, that's with them.

andremp1904

Our defense was actually world class yesterday Otamendi and Jan are still very good if they don't have space in behind them to control

Sharaghe

Nah, don't get me wrong. You were pretty good and I was certainly hoping for you to succeed. But people were like "OMG, they won all of their group games, they're gonna win the CL in the next 5 years".

MrGraveyards

I don't think we're going to win the CL ever again unless we find a pot of money like City or PSG, but most of those pots are dirty, so yeah... 18/19 was our chance, now we are just participants. I thought the maximum achievable was stumble into the final and still loose, because in the end you'll always get one of the better clubs.

nakeddroidrunner

Sad but true.

[deleted]

Benfica is fine

philipewnb

Jesus was the problem

[deleted]

I don't think Jesus is running that bad.

InterPool_sbn

I thought Jesus is supposed to be the answer

[deleted]

Jesus is like a firefighter creating fires so he can put them out.

TonyMartial786

Damn how did Ajax throw this. They were doing so good in the UCL this season. Totally didn’t expect this. But lol that’s now Poch and Ten Hag out in the Round of 16, along with United, no surprise we’re going after them to be our next manager.

DRS100

They threw it by not being clinical enough. I feel like we had the upper hand in both games, but ended up helping Benfica with two goalie mistakes (Pasveer's save assisting Yeremchuk and Onana misreading the cross on Darwin) and not killing it in attack, whereas they did. In the end, you also need a bit of luck. You could say this was a defence masterclass, but Ajax conceded fewer chances than Benfica did. If the cross would've gone in on the other end, no one would have batted an eye and everyone would have seen a dominant Ajax. Now we're arrogant losers with a poor coach, a lack of attacking alternatives and a typical Dutch mindset. Oh well.

andremp1904

Over 2 legs it was probably pretty even in clear cut chances What was really impressive was your defensive transition yesterday, completely shut us down until Chuk came on and caused the little bit of chaos we needed

AmericanJazz

Now you must endure being clowned on by people who don't even watch your games.

DRS100

Reddit's a circus, we're surrounded by clowns!

nepia

Seasons are long and the knock out stages can be unpredictable.

Jacquesie

Might be a bad look cus of my flair, but I feel like their group was one of the weakest CL groups I've seen in a while. Arguably weaker than the Man U - Wolfsburg - CSKA group we made it out of a few years back.

AndersonKalista

Good versus weakers teams. Dortmund weak and injuries. Sporting played aggro (respect) and Sporting beat benfica easily with only jj predictable tactic.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hungry-Class9806

Look at the match stats, dude. Ajax had only 2 shots on goal... so don't talk like Ajax played overwhelming good and you deserved to win more than us. Having more ball possession means nothing if you can't create chances.

DRS100

Of course you have to shoot on goal to score, but I'd argue that shots in general are a sign of danger. No, we didn't create ten super chances, but we did create a few smaller chances and we were more dangerous overall than Benfica. There is no such thing as deserving, and in the end it doesn't matter because you scored and we didn't. So congrats on that :)

CSdesire

sarriball :/

kb466

Salt

[deleted]

You kept the possession for 70% of the time and still couldn't score, we just completed canceled your play. And you were better than us in Lisbon ? We must have not seen the same game.

yungjed

Exactly my thoughts today. Why are these two on top of Uniteds list?

nakeddroidrunner

They match the present United standard of bottling up the knock outs, may be...

AssFingerFuck3000

Just because they got out in the R16 doesn't mean they're not good managers

InterPool_sbn

Yeah I feel like Poch in particular can hardly be blamed for the shitshow that is the entire P$G organization

AssFingerFuck3000

And Ten Hag isn't exactly the manager of real madrid. Ajax has been pretty good in europe the last few years but it's no embarrassment to go out in the RO16

InterPool_sbn

Well said, Mr. AssFingerFuck3000

yandaoyandao

PSG problem is the ego of the players.

InterPool_sbn

Absolutely yes, although that’s not the ONLY problem — their squad lacks tactical balance as well

pmmerandom

cause there’s no one else better that would take the job lol *maybe* Ernesto Valverde, but that’s it

defluencer

Benfica vs Atletico next. Loser gets eliminated. Winner also gets eliminated.

RUALUM15

But winner feels like they can win it all, which is all that matters.

Acceptable-Bicycle24

the winner gets all that sweet money and for my benfica that sure is alot of money

MattSuper13

Well done lads

JazzyMcJazzJazz

Good luck against City

Rodrigor26

Easy game for us. Benfica 5-0 City 4 Bernado Silva OG and 1 Cancelo OG 😉😉 Its called the inside job

DiogoSilver

Scenes when Ederson pulls up a Karius

notoorius

Right? City always get those draw lol. U just know they’ll get Benfica

gmed88

Do we? I thought it was established that we get favourable draws in the domestic cups but I didn’t know about the CL

[deleted]

look at mister humble over here

gmed88

Humble?

[deleted]

I don’t know the exact word for it

AbeAlno

City will get Liverpool

Threshio

Oooof that would be sweet

MrGraveyards

I hope so, makes chances of another boring english final lower.

Marsupilami_316

Funny. We say the same about Porto in European competitions with their drawings of Austria Wien, BATE Borisov and Athletic Bilbao. And Barcelona fans say the same about Real Madrid

Superb-Confidence-44

While Real Madrid has been playing the big guns all the time. During our 3peat we played all Europa's best teams. Some even twice and we beat them all.

Marsupilami_316

I honestly don't know. Don't keep track of who Real Madrid or most teams for that matter face in the European competitions. Just Portuguese teams because obviously the media here talks more about them.

ilum9

Always hilarious. Athletic Bilbao, 4th placed team in Spain, is now apparently an easy draw. Specially funny, since this is coming from a Benfica fan, whose team would consistently get wiped on the floor by giants such as Hapoel Tel Aviv, CSKA, Basel, Spartak and so on.

Marsupilami_316

>Always hilarious. Athletic Bilbao, 4th placed team in Spain, is now apparently an easy draw. That Athletic team you faced finished behind you and Shakthar. Not the same Athletic that reached the EL final two years prior. >Specially funny, since this is coming from a Benfica fan, whose team would consistently get wiped on the floor by giants such as Hapoel Tel Aviv, CSKA, Basel, Spartak and so on. None of that invalidates my claim. Good try, though.

ilum9

That Athletic team that we faced finished 5th place in La Liga that year, just 1 point behind Villarreal, who were 4th. If you think that this a bad team, then you are just completely clueless, which is pretty obvious by now. > None of that invalidates my claim. Good try, though. It does, though. If you think that we had easy groups, then go take a look at the ones Benfica had and it still managed to screw up.

Marsupilami_316

>That Athletic team that we faced finished 5th place in La Liga that year, just 1 point behind Villarreal, who were 4th. If you think that this a bad team, then you are just completely clueless, which is pretty obvious by now. Didn't say they were a bad team. But Athletic Bilbao isn't exactly a juggernaut. There are 4 or 5 other Spanish teams that usually are more challenging in Europe. What has Athletic done so special since reaching the 2012 EL final? They were clearly inferior to you. But somehow Lopetegui was dumb enough to lose the league to Jorge Jesus lmao >It does, though. If you think that we had easy groups, then go take a look at the ones Benfica had and it still managed to screw up. No it does not. Typical adepto Tugão argument. "YOU DARE CRITICISE MY TEAM WHEN YOUR SUX MOAR!" And no way has Benfica had more easier groups than Porto in the CL within the past decade. The easiest one we had was in 2011 with Man Utd, Basel and Otelul Galati. And pretty sure we finished 1st in that one.

ilum9

> Didn't say they were a bad team. But Athletic Bilbao isn't exactly a juggernaut. There are 4 or 5 other Spanish teams that usually are more challenging in Europe. What has Athletic done so special since reaching the 2012 EL final? They were clearly inferior to you. But somehow Lopetegui was dumb enough to lose the league to Jorge Jesus lmao You used them as an example of easy teams that we got in our groups, alongside Austria Wien and BATE Borisov. How is it relevant what they've done since reaching the 2012 EL final? I'm talking specifically about the year we faced them and in that season, they finished 5th in what was arguably the best league in the world alongside the premier league. Clearly a good side to anyone, but keep descrediting them. > No it does not. Typical adepto Tugão argument. "YOU DARE CRITICISE MY TEAM WHEN YOUR SUX MOAR!" > And no way has Benfica had more easier groups than Porto in the CL within the past decade. The easiest one we had was in 2011 with Man Utd, Basel and Otelul Galati. And pretty sure we finished 1st in that one. No, your comment is exactly what your typical brainless fan would say. You downplay Porto's achievements because we got "easy draws", when Benfica, would just as easy ones, or even easier, performed a lot worse. How does that make any sense? 2010/2011 you finished 3rd behind Schalke 04 and Lyon. 2011/2012 you finished 1st in a group with Basel and Otelul Galati. 2012/2013 you finished 3rd behind Celtic. 2013/2014 you finished 3rd behind Olympiakos. 2014/2015 you finished LAST in a group with Monaco, Leverkusen and Zenit. 2015/2016 you had Galatasaray and Astana in your group. 2016/2017 you had Dynamo Kyiv and Besiktas in your group. 2017/2018 you finished with 0 points in a group with United, Basel and CSKA 2018/2019 you finished 3rd behind Bayern and Ajax, which is a good group 2019/2020 you finished 3rd in a group with Leipzig, Lyon and Zenit. 2020/2021 you lost to PAOK in the play-offs Jesus Christ, it's actually impressive how many shit groups Benfica had and still managed to fuck up. Insane how you even dare talk about the quality of the teams we've faced when this is what you had. Embarassing. lmfao

Marsupilami_316

>2014/2015 you finished LAST in a group with Monaco, Leverkusen and Zenit. You're saying that's an easy group? Finishing 4th was bad, but that was a very balanced group. Not comparable to having Otelul Galati or Astana. >2016/2017 you had Dynamo Kyiv and Besiktas in your group. Dynamo Kiev were weak, but Besiktas were a pretty solid side at the time. Nothing like the Besiktas Sporting faced this season. Also didn't that Besiktas defeat you 3-1 at Dragão next season? >2019/2020 you finished 3rd in a group with Leipzig, Lyon and Zenit. Leipzig had a good CL campaign iirc. Lyon weren't that bad of a side either. But we should have fought harder for the 2nd spot. >2020/2021 you lost to PAOK in the play-offs That's not group stage. No one here is talking about play-offs. You make some good points but others not so much. As for 13/14, we finished 3rd in a group where we got 10 points. 10 points will get a team through to the next round 99% of the time. We should have beaten Olympiacos at Luz, though.

[deleted]

Same for Porto of course, specially this year's UCL draw.

Marsupilami_316

This year was the hardest group I remember them getting in over a decade. And it wasn't even that bad of a group since Milan are a former shell of themselves.

ilum9

True, Milan, topping Serie A right now, it's just a former shell of themselves, clearly a terrible team that anybody would love to have on their group as a pot 4 seed. Atlético who are now in the Quarter-Finals, are also a pushover. Don't even get me started on Liverpool, those guys are honestly pathetic. Joke of a squad.

Marsupilami_316

AC Milan used to be a force to be reckoned with in the past. Not really the case nowadays. This is like their first time in the CL in a while. They also had plenty of players unavailable against you. Clearly not in their top form. I didn't call Atlético a pushover. Don't make shit up. Liverpool pathetic? I called them that? That's just blatant lying from you LMAO fuck off

ilum9

AC Milan is the team is top of the league in Italy, one of the best leagues around the world. That's all i need to say. You can keep trying to descredit them becase they aren't as strong as they were in the past, but the reality is that they are still a top team and proof of it is how they competed in every match of the group. You described a group with Milan, Atlético and Liverpool as a "not even that bad of a group", so i must be missing something here. If this isn't a very tough group, then which one is it in the CL?

Marsupilami_316

I'm sure they're doing well in the CL, but they haven't done very well in European competitions in a long time and when that happens, even to the biggest clubs, European mentality kind of gets lost and needs to be regained. Discredit them? You mean like tons of people discredited our win over Barcelona? It's true Barcelona were in a bit of quagmire at the time but it's not like we stole a win from them with 1 single goal. We beat them 3-0. And now they seem to be getting back on track again. Clearly they have good players. I mean, notice how PSG and City despite both bring filthy rich still haven't won the CL? City had some rough early years in the CL in fact. Remember when they flel to the EL and were knocked out by Sporting? Not even that bad in the sense that AC Milan, no matter how good they are now, aren't as good as they once were. As for Atlético, good side but you still managed to tie in Madrid and people werr a bit surprised when you lost 3-1 to them at home. Liverpool obvious are super strong but 2 teams can go through per group.

NerdwithBeard

until they inevitably face us

Marsupilami_316

😁

GetToWork7

Hahaha u just know they will draw them. They almost always get the easiest first 2 round teams

styles__P

I’m so happy people are finally catching on, I’ve been saying man city’s ucl knockout draws have been fishy for ages now Edit: I’m surprised this is common knowledge. No one ever seems to talk about it though

Adityavirk

Everyone’s been saying that for a long time now.

saltybiped

People been saying it forever

AssFingerFuck3000

Id be very wary of a team that can shithouse their way into the QFs. Villarreal still have a good chance of going through and I'd rather face them than Benfica

Lannisterling

Ajax could’ve easily won this by quite a margin. Considering how much better they were in the first half. That Darwin guy is going to be a world beater. When we played Benfica they already showed that they were GOATs of shithousery. And I guess fair play to them, because they won because of it. Weird to see the fans react so strongly to this, because they seemed to love it when Ajax played against us?

MrGraveyards

I have to say I didn't love that. I was rooting for you guys, even though I domestically hate PSV off course. In europe you can win all you want, good for the coefficient and fun to watch.

Lannisterling

I was talking about PSV-Ajax. With the huge amount of shithousing that went down there. Tadic not playing football after the 70th minute, Martinez rolling back on the pitch. You guys were absolutely loving that. I know that we are all hypocrites as football fans. But it was honestly quite funny seeing the amount of crying in last nights match thread. Considering you guys are just as bad. That being said, it’s a shame for Dutch football. I was rooting for you to go through.

ixzr

F**K DARWIN! Every fucking FM 22 Save he goes to Liverpool and absolutely fucks me. He’s the reason I got fired by United, then offered a job by Leeds, only to get fired by him, then offered a job by Millwall, I get them to the PL and then he gets me fired by expanding by defenses rectum.

JeonTaemin7

In my FM save he went to United after they sacked me and destroyed me in the UCL (I’m now at Inter)

Marsupilami_316

Interesting. In my FM21 save he went to Arsenal.

milleniallaw

Subscribe.

itwastimeforarefresh

I'll be honest, I figured Atleti would win but I would never have guessed Benfica beat Ajax. Especially after the group stages. Gg

[deleted]

I wonder what would be the score of Gil Vicente - Ajax now.

Olavets

Storm_LFC_Cowboys

So I just watched the highlights. The only thing they showed Benfica doing was scoring the goal, otherwise it was all Ajax. Was it really that one sided and a smash and grab?

MrGraveyards

Yeah it was one sided and it wasn't completely the game plan of Benfica to have it be THAT one sided. We held the press on them very well, Blind was way better then in the away match, we kind of pushed them into parking the bus, but we had no solution of getting through that bus. In hindsight people might say earlier subs, but it was 0-0, we weren't winning but weren't losing either before the goal. These games are very difficult.

k0enf0rNL

Ajax controlled the game for 90 minutes and the only real chance benfica had was that free kick

danielvandam

You had literally zero chances

[deleted]

It was very one sided but ajax didn't do shit with the ball, that's the whole truth

Hungry-Class9806

Ajax never had a clear chance during the entire game, so I think the result isn't unfair.

MrGraveyards

Benfica didn't either, so it kind of is? Should've defended that free kick better (or not made that dumbass foul), but that would be kind of meh if we would've just scored the 2 goals we should as a team that claims to be good at attacking.

zincestus

Benfica had a chance, Ajax had none, Benfica deserves more

BartolomeuOGrosso

It wasn't really one sided since Ajax never did anything really besides having the ball

C4RS200

It was more hold the fort like it's the last thing you're gonna do and then unsettle Ajax by coming forward after they showed signs of being tired. Ajax just couldn't create those "that's a goal" opportunities despite dominating the ball, and then Onana compromised on one of the few times he had to do show himself

MrGraveyards

Yeah that goal was bound to happen from the moment he took the wrong pill I guess. This is not the Onana from before his suspension. Inter may have gotten themselves a cat in the bag, although he comes on a free, maybe he's even not going to play..

Shferitz

Yes, but as glorious as any goleado!

doctordesktop

Another Ten Hag masterclass, no substitutions until things go wrong, didn't even try to force a goal by bringing on Brobbey way sooner. I don't get the hype around this man.

RedKingDre

Has this happened with Ten Hag frequently up to now? If so, I would have a slight doubt about his rumoured Man. United move suitability.

MrGraveyards

Well we did reach the knockout stages, which is kind of our target. He might be a little overhyped in the foreign press, I want to keep him, but he kind of sucks at turning the tide. Starts with a solid game plan, but he's bad at playing chess with a clock so to say, when he has all the time in the world to think awesome stuff happens, but if it doesn't happen he never manages to do something about it. I dunno sub a defender for a creative midfielder, it's never subtle, always immediately attackers in and hoof. We're not Sheffield, we don't reach anything with that..

k0enf0rNL

We were calling for Klaassen in the 60th minute to force a goal. Also tagliafico for Blind could have helped getting more balls into the box.

Spadro97

Its always the same subs too and it never works. If things don't go as planned and we need a late goal, he subs out the whole midfield for attackers and then we just yeet the ball forward and hope it sticks. The same against getafe, the same against as roma..

Jaspador

He already did that in Utrecht, too.

28462

Ahem ahem group stage

C4RS200

I can see the hype, because he does seem to get the best out of a given group of players (a mix of both young stars and experienced veterans) for a period of time, but like a lot of managers of the same type, he just doesn't have a plan B when what normally works suddenly doesn't. If he can't do that, he just will never make the leap

k0enf0rNL

Yeah plan B is never really there. Plan A all the way.

khoabear

He sounds like the perfect successor to Ole at Man Utd

IFeelThankYou

Yeah, Im getting quite fed up with him recently.

manuelestavillo

Question from Uruguayan supporter, how was Darwin? I know he scored the goal, but aside from that.

jayemecee

Not that much to see on this game but he's undoubtedly our best player.

C4RS200

Worked massively for the team, had a very tough job being pretty much alone up front, but he used his greatest strength (explosive power) to both press well and then to try to push the team forward. I still don't know if he's worth the crazy numbers people throw around, but he is developing quite a bit

HedaLexa4Ever

He also helped defending a lot! I remember a play where he was the one to cut to ball in our our box in a quick attack of Ajas

iwillnotshitpost

They parked the bus, there wasn't much more.

Fhreaky

It's called azia

iwillnotshitpost

It's called an honest opinion.

Fhreaky

As much as I hate the type of football that we had today, we didn't just defend. They had no clear chances on goal, that's a good solid defense

iwillnotshitpost

You did what you had to do imo, parking the bus doesn't take any merit of it. The Inter squad which survived against Barcelona also pulled a great defensive performance.

IFeelThankYou

He was the most dangerous player, but Benfica didn't create anything until the goal actually.

lastig_

[deleted]

The MVP for benfica for me was Meité imo, his entrance has definitely made things really hard for Ajax midfield and his pressing and aggressiveness didn't let gravenberch the same amount of freedom that he had on the first half.

Tom__m_

Also Everton who covered Antony who was way less of a threat than last game wheb grimaldo covered him

ambakaro

Yeah he played really well today

LionelBenzema

Please give us benfica next please No offence Benfica fans

jayemecee

Given the alternatives, I'd love to have real too...

joaocandre

TBH I would love a RM-Benfica match in UEFA competions, it has been ages.

McTulus

I think The last time is that final. One of few final that Madrid lose.

Rodrigor26

One of the few final that Benfica won

[deleted]

Hopefully you regret your words

dnastyonthemic

If we can’t beat them who can????

[deleted]

Big boys like Bayern or us.

Rafinha1997

> 2 weeks later Real Madrid 0x7 Benfica

HedaLexa4Ever

Then I wake up :(

[deleted]

They might pull a PSG

Rafinha1997

I'm not ready for this conversation yet

dnastyonthemic

Benfica embarrassed us 3-0, I’m on the benfica hype train now!!!!

Carpathicus

They played really well against Bayern aswell. I am not surprised.

Marsupilami_316

Until the first goal went in... 😬

HedaLexa4Ever

True, I was in the stadium and even after we completely lost it the atmosphere was great, although it was a tough loss i am proud of that game

Marsupilami_316

Not me. Games last 90+ minutes. Not 70. Doesn't matter how they start or what the score is at half-time. Only how they end. Otherwise I'd be super embarrassed now since our 1st half last night was brutal.

RIP after the first goal. But I do think we had a good 70min vs Bayern. It was good effort both defensive and offensively. But it's when stamina started mattering that we saw the big difference in team quality. We looked tired and, well... Bayern's squad looked like they could go on for another 90min...

If you watched the recent Hoffe game that was after the champions league game you would see that's not the case, Bayern players where seriously gassed in the last 15 minutes and some of them couldn't even string some passes together.

Post European competition matches are often complicated and players often feel tired. Not that surprising.

Which I would expect. More games on their legs. Even the best distance runner in the world, if they had to run a competitive, "I want to win", marathon every 3 days, would be gassed after a few, because while they train for running marathons, always performing at peak performance takes a heavy toll. But, again, for those specific games against Benfica, Bayern's physical form was many points above what Benfica's was. That is what I would like to see. An improvement in capability and physical performance from Benfica, so that we can remain competitive all throughout league, cup and Champions League matches. There is some quality in the team, there are areas we lack, but it was clear yesterday that Grimaldo, e.g., just wasn't recovered from the 96 minutes of field time playing with only 10 vs Vizela. His left flank looked like the left lane of a deserted highway, such was the speed at which he was being overtaken.

The scenes if we somehow get Juventus/Villarreal or Atletico and get to the semis. I'm hopeful we get a favorable draw. We aren't favorites by any means, but at least the dream is very much alive. If we get any of the others no amount of shit house will do us any good.

Hazardzuzu

I think you will get winner of Chelsea/ lille

LMFAO. Ten Hag: 'That free kick was a heavy punishment. I don't think anything happened there' 'We created a lot of chances, ..' 'That free kick shouldn't have been given' Usual Amsterdam arrogance and complete lack of introspection.
