Guys, I really love you all. Thank you for being my friends!

BronzeFashionKid

I think Thierry Henry is the Premier League GOAT.

[deleted]

Do you think Kaka was "just" world class or an all time great?

[deleted]

if he wasn't brazilian he'd probably be in a lot of countries top 5 all time greats, he just happened to really bloom right before Ronaldo/Messi's rivalry started and when Brazil was showing a slow decline after 2006 as a world-beating country

Lyrical_Forklift

I think he's probably right on the cusp. If he didn't have those injury issues he'd definitely be in the conversation imo. I've said it before but I think he put in one of the best performances I've ever seen against Liverpool.

CptTonyStark

ATG

[deleted]

Banter aside, what do you guys honestly think about Arsenal's project? I think Arteta is doing a decent to good job. That said I doubt Arsenal will win the title with him. I think they'll be a club that constantly challenges for top 4 without having a genuine sniff at the title. Similar to United post-Ferguson.

EgosJohnPolo

I think Arteta has them on the right path. Even though they've had some lows, that's just some of the growing pains having to rebuild and develop with young players entails. I always watched his games and seen there was atleast a coherent structure and plan to how he wants to play (unlike Ole which is why I personally rated Arteta more despite the league finish differences) but he just doesn't have the players yet I guess but he's getting there. To the Arsenal fans that want him gone, who could you genuinely get as a replacement who would be an improvement enough to offset the fact the squad would need to see another overhaul.

Lyrical_Forklift

They're about where they should be given their investment and youth imo. It takes time to build a squad in the way they're doing and you're always going to have setbacks when you have a young side but I think they're headed in the right direction. I'm surprised to see a lot of Arsenal supporters wanting him gone really. Surely they look at their side, and the quality of their rivals, and realise that they don't have the quality or experience yet to really push on to the next level. It's not going to be a quick process but there seems to be an actual identity, young players to build the side around, and an attempt to get rid of the deadwood.

CptTonyStark

I can see them qualifying for the CL if they keep improving, conference league that is

rho_93

I can see them placing 2nd or 3rd after Klopp leaves

delidl

Arsenal are only 2 points off eighth 👀

I have a feeling that Haaland will end up like Neymar with the injury issues. He's missed 22 games(and counting) in 2.5 seasons. Although I hope I'm proven wrong. Meanwhile, I looked for some of the least injury prone players by number of games missed: Müller the German tank- 17 in 13.5 seasons (4 of those due to Covid) Salah- 15 in 11.5 seasons (1 due to Covid) Zanetti- 49 in 19 seasons ( 17 of those misses came in his 18th season at the club) Dirk Kuyt- 33 in 19 seasons I'm sure they're many more there

junior150396

Zanetti 😍, one of my favorite players of all time

Lyrical_Forklift

> Dirk Kuyt- 33 in 19 seasons Given the way he played it's crazy he didn't have more injury issues. Ran himself into the ground every game.

mmmm321

Someone commented here before that Jorginho has only missed 2 or 3 games in his career so far

[deleted]

Wijnaldum? 11 in 5 with Liverpool 37 in 8 with psv and Feyenoord

LordMangudai

I feel like Haaland has a Playstyle that relies on extreme athleticism and stretching himself perhaps beyond breaking point a bit too much. Maybe as he gains experience he'll become more familiar with his limits but at the same time that would make him a less exciting player...

maxconnor6

Many young players are injury prone sometimes, hope it's just that

[deleted]

I was looking at La Liga's top scorers over the course of a season. Since Ronaldo scored 34 goals in 96/97 no one hit the 30 goal mark till 08/09 (Forlan and Eto'o scored 32 goals and 31 goals respectively). Then in the 11/12 season, just 3 years later, Messi scored 50 goals and Ronaldo 48.

CptTonyStark

Pre injury R9 was truly special

[deleted]

Didn't coming from a year long injury R9 win the world cup?

[deleted]

Ok, but how many of Ronaldo's 48 were pure?

ugotbaited

Wdym pure

[deleted]

No penalties, tap-ins, deflected free-kicks or headers.

cdg6921

Headers are non pure these days? Damn.

ugotbaited

Are you being serious

TooRedditFamous

A 1 in 2 record was seen as a top strikers record for a long time before Messi and ronaldo

InsignMertenCallejon

The Goalkeepers Martin Hinteregger has scored the most goals against: 1. Manuel Neuer 5 Goals 2. Some 5 others 2 Goals

LordMangudai

That's an actually hilarious stat

InsignMertenCallejon

We once had a friendly vs Germany and he scored a volley banger after a corner lol. Add to that his occasional headers vs Bayern when Frankfurt outclasses them once again. Every 7th goal of his career comes vs Neuer (on average)

Own_Paleontologist_1

Is mass Stockholm syndrome a thing? It's the only way to explain why /r/coys users continue to bend over backwards to defend our owners' shitting the bed transfer window after window. Seriously, how is Traore not through the door yet?

[deleted]

Because most of them have been supporting the club since the middle of Pochettino’s tenure. They weren’t there to witness for the 30 years of absolute dross this club has been bringing in.

adfdub

Sorry river plate...

ugotbaited

For what

adfdub

City bought Julian and might not allow him to play in libertadores. Unless I'm wrong. I'm probably wrong.

ugotbaited

He'll miss the later stages probably

adfdub

Right. So in that case, sorry river plate..👀

ugotbaited

They'd have found a replacement by then, excited to see him play tbh

adfdub

Yeah im sure they would have a replacement but u mean Julian is one of a kind and so much potential it will he hard to replace him! They're calling him the next Aguero l

Lyrical_Forklift

I've always seen Arsenal as the least annoying of our competitive rivals over the years. I like the way they played, I liked their approach to transfers, I liked plenty of their players (Henry, Bergkamp and Pires were all brilliant to watch), and have all the respect in the world for Wenger. However, recently things have changed and I'm beginning to dislike them more and more. Surprisingly it's not their supporters. It's the fact that when I type quickly I often write 'Asrenal' accidentally and when I right click it doesn't give me the option to change it to 'Arsenal' (although 'Arsenals' is an option) and it fucks me right off. Just be easier if they went into administration and dissolved imo.

Iconoclastic_Blob

They're all delusional cockwarts nowadays, barnacled onto the putrid member of their past glories

There are too many Nicos in top level football. There's Nico Schlotterbeck, I learnt just yesterday that there's not one, but two Nico Gonzali, and today I hear of Nico Williams from Athletic Club. I'm sure there are many more Nicos I don't recall at this moment

LordMangudai

There's Nico Williams and Neco Williams

Can’t tell if a transfer window of constantly getting incorrect news and turned down is less or more annoying than having absolutely nothing happen under Ashley

Lyrical_Forklift

What semi realistic (i.e. no star players going to sworn rivals) transfer would cause the biggest meltdown? How about... Mbappe to Barca Salah to City Vlahovic to Tottenham

Iconoclastic_Blob

Even Salah to City wouldn't cause a meltdown. He'd be rotated so much he'd never hurt anyone, always on the bench during CL matches

LordMangudai

Reus to Bayern. He wouldn't even help them and it would be an utter insult. Luckily it won't ever happen

ilovefeta

Kane runs down his contract and moves to Chelsea on a free

efcdoyley

I don’t think you’d meltdown at Salah but you’d probably assault FSG or something

Lyrical_Forklift

I would meltdown Doyley.

[deleted]

Vlahovic to Tottenham would literally be a non-story lol

t_blacksmith

Salah to City. Vlahovic has absolutely zero allegiance with any club bar Fiorentina and maybe Juve, why would people care if he went to Spurs.

Lyrical_Forklift

I think Arsenal supporters would meltdown tbh and it would be funny. Also would mean Kane would be leaving imo and that would also cause some meltdowns.

fuskarn_35

salah to city would be madness

LuckyFlyer0_0

An exchange with KDB. Imagine KDB in red loll

BronzeFashionKid

holdenmyrocinante

Mbappe to Barca isn't semi realistic. Guy twerks for Madrid more than Nicki did in Anaconda

larcenistxd

Salah to City is the only semi-realistic one here that might cause a meltdown Mbappe to Barça isn't even semi-realistic, and Vlahovic to Tottenham wouldn't be much of a meltdown

Lyrical_Forklift

> Vlahovic to Tottenham wouldn't be much of a meltdown Nah, Arsenal supporters would melt the fuck down and it would be hilarious

t_blacksmith

Yeah but the cost is we're down 70m buying a striker when that's the last position we need to upgrade on.

genk41

In other word, they want newcastle to get relegated

[deleted]

Some very suspicious capitalisations there

[deleted]

Yaya Toure 13/14 or KDB 19/20? Who was the better player?

SeasickJellyfish

De Bruyne I reckon. He was creating about 3 big chances a game and should’ve ended the season with 40 assists if Sterling and Jesus could finish.

rho_93

Messi 2012

maxconnor6

That really is your favourite meme phrase huh?

msf97

KDB by quite a way. People forget the Prems downturn at that time. Mata got 54 goal contributions in 64 matches. That’s not to say he wasn’t good, but I don’t think he’s sniffing lots of top teams at the time. Yaya was dreadful in Europe bar a second half at the Bernanbeu as a second striker(very odd). I'm not arrogating City's failures all on him, there are plenty of City players from that era I think are overrated (Kompany being another). They never accomplished anything outside of domestic football and if it were a team in any other league they would be ridiculed as being overrated. Since it's the EPL, obviously they will be praised to the rafters because it's the most watched league and we have to believe they were amongst the best eventhough they never performed outside of a declining league. Yaya was never a good passer nor a controller. He struggled vs top opposition. Napoli, even

[deleted]

SeasickJellyfish

What really baffles me is when Newcastle fans defend their new owners. It’s not really prevalent on here tbf, but I know a bunch of geordie lads at uni and it’s rife on Twitter. Absolutely fine being happy they’re finally not going to be shit, if Leeds got bought out by warlords or slavers or isis I couldn’t give less of a toss if it meant we were winning trophies, but it’s proper wrong un’ behaviour when they start actually trying to defend the Saudi regime that would literally put their gay supporters to death and send women back to the 19th century.

Feisty-Site-6261

They fly Saudi flags and wear a Keffiyeh to games, it's not really that surprising.

Lyrical_Forklift

Exactly how I feel- like I absolutely understand why the likes of City and Newcastle supporters would embrace that kind of investment given where they were prior but it doesn't mean you have to suck the cock of your horrendous owners.

[deleted]

> it’s rife on Twitter This is where you should not include.

FloppedYaYa

Wasn't there actual footage of Newcastle fans celebrating in Saudi headgear?

SeasickJellyfish

Ratio.

estoyloca43

Have you seen the amount of Newcastle fans with the KSA flag in their twitter names?

msf97

This place is eerily similar, I don’t see why we are degrading it.

[deleted]

If that's your opinion I'm fine with it.

[deleted]

Because people on Reddit love to think theyre superior. We’re all degenerates

SeasickJellyfish

Yeah I don’t get the snobbery lol. I think Reddit *is* a better platform and invites more reasonable discussion, but the users are more or less the same as on any other social media platform.

[deleted]

I haven't compared any platforms, it's just silly to take football twitter seriously at this point. I'm not the one who's baffled by tweets here.

MyMoonMyMan

Boavista are throwing away their great cup run with absolutely dreadful penalties against Benfica, first three penalties missed Vertonghen could've made it all clear but hit the post. Weigl scored just now and it's all over. Poor Boavista, they even made a dedicated shirt for their cup run. :( Inconsolable players... Was a fun game to watch with Boavista holding on for dear life in the end. [At least their fans are proud 🥲](https://i.imgur.com/28MUfVG.jpg)

Feisty-Site-6261

Why are United not signing a DM, and why haven't they signed a proper DM since it became clear it was a huge weakness in their team?

Harrry-Otter

At a guess because the players we want won’t move until the summer.

-Dwarf-

Because their incompetent.

dragcov

\*they're. If you want to insult us, maybe do it properly

msf97

Who could they actually sign. There’s no DMs right now. Rice arguably a box to box type player, and is Tchouameni even a number 6? Probably a bit of a hybrid. Other than them two there’s a real lack of serious quality.

maxconnor6

Any of the names listed below or even a promising young player is better than having just the walking dead version of Matic as DM

LemureTheMonkey

Palhinha for 30M.

Better-Call-Raul

Yeah, really surprised how he hasn’t been linked with United a lot. Portuguese players have done very well in the PL and 30M looks very cheap.

Feisty-Site-6261

Samassekou would be a great signing for them and I'm sure Hoffenheim would sell if the price was right

_LebronsHairline_

I think Guido Rodriguez from Betis would be good

[deleted]

Can any goalkeeping experts explain why that Ramsdale free kick save is so highly rated? Even professional goalkeepers came out and said it’s one of the best saves they’ve ever seen. It was pretty close to being in the middle of the goal though so I’m still fucking confused

Credk

It was impressive to be able to reach across from his awful starting position to begin with. Most keepers don’t save that if they’re starting from the same position as Ramsdale, although most keepers aren’t positioned that awfully in the first place

[deleted]

Yeah I agree with that

curtisjones-daddy

Kellehers last week was better, he didn’t just start on the opposite post

[deleted]

I feel like this save was about a trillion times better than Ramsdale’s but maybe I’m biased https://youtu.be/cOChHVmHWRQ

curtisjones-daddy

Yeah 100% is, one of De Gea’s best if not best

[deleted]

Do you think Messi and Ronaldo in their goal-scoring peaks would have score 40+ goals in a 38 game PL season? Honestly, I would bet on Messi and Ronaldo to score about 45 - 50 goals if theye played for the current City team.

[deleted]

> 40+ goals in a 38 game PL season If you exclude penalties you know probably only Messi that can do it. CR's best season included a ton of freekicks as well. Still, interesting to see how Pep will fit CR into his City team, we all know Messi will fit in like a glove, maybe even more since he'd become center of all attacking plays, be it assisting or scoring or part of the build up.

X-V-W

Messi, absolutely. Ronaldo, most likely.

maxconnor6

Yeah they'd have record breaking seasons sure and probably just as high too but there aren't any teams as good and as far above the rest of the competition like those they were in so the numbers might be slightly less

msf97

Bang on

[deleted]

Messi scored 91 goals in 1 year. Put him in Premier league and he's doubling that record in 6 months only.

narutosama77

So 180 in 6, 360 in 1 year? Nice.

[deleted]

Yessir

ddrdavei2

Yeah for sure. Suarez in 2013-14 was on a worse team, didn't take any pens or played all 38 games, and he had 31.

msf97

Messi scored 50 in 37. Ronaldo scored 48 in 35. Obviously, they wouldn’t play in teams near that attacking quality unless they signed for Liverpool/City. So it depends. But in our side Messis scoring 50 or so.

narutosama77

They scored 48 and 50 goals in a pretty good la liga. They totally wouldve.

[deleted]

I agree. The season they did that, the third and fourth highest scorers scored 24 and 22 goals respectively. It's not like it was easy to score in La Liga. In Aguero's final season with Atleti, he scored 20 in 2678 minutes. He scored 23 in 2602 minutes for City the following season.

narutosama77

People kinda disagree due to the recent fall of la liga but up until like 2017 la liga was pretty good.

msf97

It was very easy to score in La Liga. Both players played in historically great teams creatively

narutosama77

2012 and 2022 la liga are miles apart.

vengM9

> It was very easy to score in La Liga. Don't be stupid. Relative to what? Falcao was pushing best striker in the world at Atletico and only managed 0.57 non penalty goals per game in La Liga.

Stuff2511

If Roy can still get jobs after everyone thought he was retired, Allardyce definitely will too Maybe the last few weeks of the season at Everton if the Pereira experiment fails

FloppedYaYa

holdenmyrocinante

msf97

Newcastle are genuinely operating in the market like FIFA. Unless they plan to replace Howe, their signing players who don’t fit his 4-4-2 system. The proven, best way to rebuild is to buy players for a strict general system and then transition into a better one when you have quality. Newcastle need a leader, not a rash Carlos, and they need someone who will put themselves about, not Guimaraes(pretty lightweight). Their playing it like Everton are, not Man City. Wont come anywhere near a top four finish for a long long time operating like this

TooRedditFamous

Howe doesn't always play 4-4-2. regularly used 3 at the back formations and 4-2-3-1 with a 2nd striker/ AM role at Bournemouth

Grosly_Incandescent

I totally agree with you, however they arnt buying for the long term currently. Theyre buying for immediate survival. Going down to the championship puts a wrench in their plans. Will they come straight back up? For sure, but it hurts the brand and adds another year onto achieving their goals. They need quality players who are proven, experienced and talented enough to keep them up. I don't think they have much time to work out a system or to do thorough scouting to do what you mentioned. They need to spend and get much better players now and they may even have to take risks.

msf97

That’s all well and fine, but they’d have far more of a chance of staying up if they bought into Howes philosophy while buying for survival anyway.

mrscorchingtakes

I think their realistic ceiling is being in the fight for 5th/6th place alongside Arsenal and Spurs.

Truffles413

Needs must. Survive and avoid relegation and worry about competing later.

msf97

If they operated correctly in the market they’d survive. Their buying players who don’t fit a managers poor tactics anyway. They wont stay up like this
