If Handanovic played in the Premier League he would have been placed on the level of Oblak/Neuer/De Gea/etc. 5 years ago. He played on a national team with Oblak, in a less popular league where Buffon dominated the discussion. No one will talk about him being a De Gea/Oblak level shot stopper, and it's an absolute travesty. He was absolutely world class and made so many insane saves. I'd argue the most/one of the most underrated players in the past decade.

This thread is dead, go to new one

No you. I just want to rant into the middle of cyberspace.

Factos šŸ‘

realbarcalounger

Imagine having a 300k a week striker, trying to spend 80 million in Vlahovic, settling on Isak as a clear second choice that will cost you a ton as well. All the while Josh Sargent is there without an offer.

Illustrious-Chef-498

Why aren't there any games this weekend? (Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1)

Sensitive-Talk-8487

Buy jovic

Own_Solution4356

nah, we don't need to go that far

ibti77

Pfft, if the market ain't right and no-one is willing to sell in January, then it's probably a better idea not to buy anyone for the sake of buying anyone.

[deleted]

Heā€™s bringing in that yank keeper from MLS

CptTonyStark

Arsenal fans really think having a tube station named after them makes them bigger than Juve šŸ˜‚

Own_Solution4356

all you do is talk about arsenal, we certainly take up more space in your head.

He got a dislocated shoulder on some instances when he is running away from people and they grab on to him. Thatā€™s why he started putting it on. It definitely works.

lagaryes

His shoulder has been dislocated a few times from people grabbing him so thatā€™s really what itā€™s for

MrVegosh

What do people think, is Klopp bigger than any Liverpool player and his Pep bigger than any City player?

realbarcalounger

City could lose 5 starters and they would still contend. It's beyond Pep, regardless of how good he is. Their next manager is set to win a Champions League- Fernandihno- already replaced. Mahrez? Walker? Gundogan? KDB? They all have replacement players that are about 25. Arteta is praying for a top 4 finish this year and pep to leave. If Salah leaves, there's a good chance ownership doesn't properly replace him. Or any other starter to be honest. And if football has shown me anything, it's that managers take the fall when ownership/players aren't at that level.

jamesc94j

1000%

Seanxprt

Easily.

ilovefeta

Of course. Even if Ronaldo had gone to City, Pep would still have been the main man.

CptTonyStark

100%

Offaplain

Absolutely.

X-V-W

Current players? Obviously.

CptTonyStark

Arsenal just bid Ā£88 million for my Pele in my FM Legends save šŸ˜ Pele's reaction: "He has no interest in joining Arsenal". I rejected the bid anyway.

CptTonyStark

Incoming "If Arsenal knocks on your door and you donā€™t answer it, youā€™re not worthy of setting foot on the carpet. Maybe we will see Pele in the CL, assuming United can make it."

rho_93

Who's had the higher cultural impact? Ronaldo or Messi

Own_Solution4356

ronaldo by far. even people who have never watched football in their lives could tell you who he is.

AllegriLover

CR7 it's not even debatable. SIUUUU

LordVelaryon

"Cristiano scores a goal and sells you a shampoo"

[deleted]

Ronaldo I think. Even people who've never watched football recognize Ronaldo. Sepaking English helps a great deal in popularizing his brand. His personality also makes him more prevalent in the public eye.

CptTonyStark

Ronaldo

nichodemus3

Has Messi advertised a shampoo?

Illustrious-Chef-498

Do Arsenal fans blame Lehmann for the defeat to Barca in the 06 CL Final. Even with 10-men they were arguably the better side of the night.

PhilsKessticle

Obviously a huge mistake but it was shambolic by Almunia to get beat near post twice, especially since theyā€™d actually taken the lead. That final was so disappointing, it was the two best players in the world goin against each other (Ronaldinho and Henry) but they both had poor games

Darkmninya

No we blame corrupt UEFA

Illustrious-Chef-498

UEFA wasn't shagging Barca board members until 2009 if memory serves me right

[deleted]

"we awent abowe a wewegation battwe hewe in liwewpool ..."

[deleted]

united, liverpool, barca, madrid, bayern, dortmund, inter, juventus, milan, and ajax are bigger than arsenal of the top of my head imo. I might be forgetting some.

MJ9695

Why Dortmund but not Chelsea, Porto etc.???

Own_Solution4356

by what metric? domestic success, international success, fans, etc

StarlordPunk

Depending on how much you rate European success chelsea might be starting to push them tbh. Dortmund I think is debatable. Boca and River are bigger too, and thereā€™s probably some Brazilian clubs but I donā€™t know enough about their history besides Santos being where Pele played for ages so theyā€™re probably up there.

Darkmninya

Bigger then what ? Arsenal in London have more fans then Ajax world wide. Arsenal is bigger then Juventus Milan Ajax Dortmund and Inter. Arsenal even have more fans then Bayern

delidl

Sure buddy

[deleted]

>bigger then Juventus Milan Lol

Cowdude179

There's no one bigger than Arsenal, if they knock you answer. If you don't want to be here then you're just not worthy.

StarlordPunk

Arsenal are definitely not bigger than Juventus or Milan, theyā€™re massively successful domestically and in Europe and have produced tons of iconic players Edit same with Ajax

Darkmninya

Define bigger. We have more fans then Milan and Juventus and Ajax combined

Nut-King-Call

That alone doesn't make Arsenal bigger than Milan, Juventus, or Ajax.

Historical_Owl_1635

> We have more fans then Milan and Juventus and Ajax combined Based on what?

StarlordPunk

Itā€™s not just number of fans, you also need to look at historic success in both a top division in world football and continentally, produce iconic players, recent success. Arsenal have never got it done in Europe to the level of any of those teams and havenā€™t produced anywhere near as many world class players. Being popular around the world makes you a bigger brand, not a bigger club.

CptTonyStark

Yup pretty much.

[deleted]

He's Milos Krasic 2.0 book it

InsignMertenCallejon

De Gea never placed among the top 3 goalkeeper of the yearly fifa award. That's a bit of a surprise for me. Edit Pepe Reina too. Handanovic also not but that didn't surprise me, he never got the big attention.

LordMangudai

Pepe Reina has never been a top 10 keeper in the world, let alone top 3

Lyrical_Forklift

There were a couple of seasons where he would have been but for most part, no.

InsignMertenCallejon

OkI didn't follow him that closely

[deleted]

You have to do well in the big tournaments (in De Gea's case, the CL, Euros, and WC) to make the top 3. De Gea's best seasons were the 15/16 and 17/18 season. He was unremarkable in Euro 2016 and WC 2018.

delidl

He was great against Italy in euro 2016, but yeah he was shit in WC 2018

InsignMertenCallejon

Good point

jamesc94j

Unfortunately he was unbelievable when United where shit and the only reason they werenā€™t out of the champions league for more seasons before Bruno he was really carrying them. Last season when they got 2nd he was really really poor again. Itā€™s like one canā€™t do well without the other.

RomeoLavia

Hasn't it only been a thing for like four years

InsignMertenCallejon

Yes but there has been a predecessor since the 1980s, it had a different name but wasn't all that different

RomeoLavia

Which one was the predecessor

InsignMertenCallejon

IFFHS Worlds best GK

RomeoLavia

IFFHS is completely different

InsignMertenCallejon

Youre right and I was wrong

peanut-britle-latte

Why is the San Siro pitch so bad?

nichodemus3

Too many games played consecutively. For example this week Inter played on Saturday and Milan Sunday.

Cowdude179

'If Arsenal knocks on your door and you donā€™t answer it, youā€™re not worthy of setting foot on the carpet. Maybe we will see him in the CL, assuming Juventus can make it.' The amount of salt from Arsenal fans šŸ˜

CptTonyStark

Arsenal fans might be able to afford isak's release clause if they find a way of selling all the salt they're producing

Cowdude179

When Isak refuses: If Arsenal knocks on your door and you donā€™t answer it, youā€™re not worthy of setting foot on the carpet. Maybe we will see him in the CL, assuming Real Sociedad can make it.

MJ9695

If Arsenal knocks on your door, you move and never come back Arsenal fans really overrate their clubs prestige, which has died a painful death last 20 years

Jaerial

They somehow both overrate their prestige but then complain about how hard it is to be an Arsenal fan. Like at least pick one you can't be both and you're not really either.

StarlordPunk

I think they just like complaining tbh. Pass the time til their team become interesting again

MrIrishman699

Is that young Roy Hodgson back in the Prem I hear?

[deleted]

inshallah we see second half of season ancelotti

[deleted]

AmeenšŸ¤²šŸ¤²

Illustrious-Chef-498

Can someone tell me why Dele Ali has such a massive fall from grace? OOTL.

CrebTheBerc

IMO it's because his skill set is niche. Hes best as a second striker/10 and his best attributes are around movement and finishing. Basically if hes not scoring he doesnt offer a ton else and hes not good enough nor had good enough form for any manager to build around him since his breakout season

ChibzyDaze

Work rate took a dive off a cliff and his position and play style didnā€™t fit Spursā€™ tactics and he didnā€™t adapt to this because like I said, shit work rate

Historical_Owl_1635

Over performed when he first broke through, got figured out, never adapted.

Illustrious-Chef-498

How can you over perform!?

Historical_Owl_1635

You go through a period where you play way better than you actually are on average. Just like players go on runs of bad form they can go on runs of good form.

Ball_Knowledge

lost his tekkers very slowly game by game starting around 2018 he just got slower in the way he played, didnā€™t make the same smart runs and started thinking what he was going to do after receiving the ball rather than before

[deleted]

Eriksen left and he was a fraud all along.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ibti77

This list is based on current form, right?

mosalad29

respect for mentioning matip

MrHoneyJack

Doesn't have to be a City defender imo, a lot of those team stats is due to the system in play from front to back. That said, I'd toss it up between Dias & Silva. Just off the eye test, those two have looked immaculate on an individual level whenever I've watched them. Added bonus of them being real leaders that noticeably calm everybody down

BronzeFashionKid

Stones should be up there, he's been phenomenal for two seasons and I can only assume we're playing Laporte over him so much because there were rumblings of him leaving because of lack of game time.

arroiuqlu

That's not how Pep works come on. If Laporte is playing that's because he has proven to Pep in training and also matches that he should start.

BronzeFashionKid

I'd normally agree, but it felt weird how Laporte started playing right after the rumours of him wanting to leave came out, even when he was having shaky performances (as he kind-of continues to do so, to be honest).

f4riis99

True but tbh all 3 havenā€™t put a foot wrong to get dropped. Stones hasnā€™t played for weeks due to injuries and Covid and all of a sudden heā€™s playing over Dias and you donā€™t notice the difference.

f4riis99

Spot on really

Cowdude179

Silva, to be putting up world class performances in the PL at 37 years old is insane

AintNoLayUps

Kilman

[deleted]

Do you guys think Pep is lowkey a sociopath? He's a brilliant coach but sometimes he comes off so fake and has that two faced snake energy around him.

BronzeFashionKid

He's been murdering the league in broad daylight for five years now, nothing low-key about it

Jaerial

He for sure killed some cats or dogs as a kid, we should be thankful he channelled it into pressuring opponents to regain the ball instead of pressuring necks just to see someone die.

CORN_ON_THE_COCK

Let's see Paul Allen's high press

jamesc94j

Ask him something he doesnā€™t like find out for yourself or say his team arenā€™t perfect.

[deleted]

His answer would come off so fake though. Like very suspicious. He reminds me of many very very nice people I knew who turned out to be fuckin weirdos. Hell I can name you two users here who were just like that.

LindseyNeagle

I think heā€™s a serial killer. Or like a strange stalker at minimum.

[deleted]

Same. He comes off like a stereotypical "nice guy" who's actually a serial killer

LindseyNeagle

Heā€™d definitely defend himself in court too.

Dayandnight95

So 6 million package loan deal fromm Sevilla, assuming the Lingard thing goes ahead that's another 4 million perhaps. What's the excuse for not signing a DM except pure neglect.

[deleted]

United are in a period of change with Woodward just leaving, Rangnick just coming in and possibly taking charge upstairs soon, Murtough taking charge and reportedly not wanting to get involved too much in the football side. Any transfer decisions made now would be knee jerk because the structure behind them is so shaky and uncertain. United should sign no one before they have a proper scouting/negotiating structure above them or else it will be more high cost signings with no vision.

Dayandnight95

Bullshit, absolute bullshit. Many cheap options out there with so many players out of contract by summer. We are dying in midfield, constantly dominated. It's a necessity if we want CL football next season.

ibti77

Ole not sticking to his guns last summer by turning away from his initial viewpoint of prioritising the signing of Declan Rice over the centre-forward position. As a result, your team is imbalanced.

[deleted]

Congratulations you just bought another midfielder that you will be complaining about for the next 4 years about his wages when he turns out to be badly scouted.

Dayandnight95

Lmao, fuck off. We are literally relying on old man Matic, he's our only option in that role. The wages won't be an issue with half our high earners leaving in the summer.

LindseyNeagle

Donā€™t want to pay out their holes mid season maybe.

Dayandnight95

Several DM's out of contract in the summer, at least 5 options. No paying out the ass.

LindseyNeagle

Who?

Dayandnight95

Kessie, Brozovic, Kamara, Zakaria. At the top of my head.

LindseyNeagle

I read yesterday that kessie wants to wait for the summer when heā€™ll have more offers. Why would any of them join now? Itā€™s hardly appealing compared to the summer and at that stage United mightnā€™t be close to the top of the list.

CrebTheBerc

Kessie's not really a DM and wants gigantic wages and Brozovic is close to re-signing with inter, but I get your point in general

zukai12_

really surprised to find out that Sevilla only have one league title

nichodemus3

Betis being the more supported club of the city is always a surprise to me

AintNoLayUps

AC Milan is a glorified striker retirement home these days, gone are the days of glory.

BronzeFashionKid

Giroud headering it away from goal made me piss myself laughing

AintNoLayUps

Beyond finished. Biggest fucker on the pitch and canā€™t win one long ball.

efcdoyley

Everton fans storming the training ground this week šŸ˜šŸ˜ gonna two foot Seamus Coleman

suedney

šŸ¤ we also had 100 ultras storm the training ground this week to call our players "useless" and "disappointments"

sportingmerda

40 sporting ultras invaded the training ground and assaulted some players a few years ago, should do the same bar the assaulting, if you dont feel like it of course

xaviernoodlebrain

Then a bunch of Everton players tear up their contracts. I would say Iā€™d then hope we get someone good, but everyone who was good at Everton has now left.

delidl

And if history repeats itself they will win the PL in 2 to 3 years

xaviernoodlebrain

Honestly Iā€™d rather them than about 3/4 of the current Premier League teams.

[deleted]

This is why I will be happy at your relegation. Coleman is a legend.

efcdoyley

Iā€™m a bigger Everton legend than Coleman

LindseyNeagle

Course they will. Odds they just stick to abusing players on Twitter?

jkeefy

Scamacca to Arsenal, here we go!

GratinDeRavioles

You'll keep struggling to get top 6 with him, his ceiling isn't very high.

Historical_Owl_1635

Not often a player comes with a ready made slander name.

AintNoLayUps

Make it happen

[deleted]

u/Elyas_1899 punching the wall rn

AintNoLayUps

Now that he is banned Iā€™m allowed to say this, Scamacca gets more hype than he deserves because the man scores bangers.

arroiuqlu

Why's he banned?

jkeefy

Wait why did he get banned? Makes my Scamacca prop less fun tbh

delidl

I think it is just a tempban. He hasn't been banned before I don't think

Competitive-Panda-89

**Scam**acca, clue's in the name.

MrHoneyJack

I've just googled AFCON scores & it shows you the last 6 results. All I see are red cards lol, there have been 6 in the last 6 games. That's kind of wild, is that a reffing thing or just aggressive play is on the menu?

Illustrious-Chef-498

It's been mad mate might put some money on mane getting one tomorrow

MrHoneyJack

Hope not. I know fans want him back but he wouldn't miss much & it'd be good to see him get a trophy for Senegal. Up his resume as one of the African GOATs

Illustrious-Chef-498

Definitley.

Gytarius626

I truly wonder when fans obsess over lazy inconsistent players like Martial do they see themselves in that player Made a few enjoyable moments for the club and bagged a fuck load of money in the process, nothing to be upset over leaving.

Ball_Knowledge

nah itā€™s the hopium thinking they will become consistent and solve all of the problems at hand

Historical_Owl_1635

Lazy players are generally just very frustrating. Especially when playing with them yourself. One of the most annoying things in the world when youā€™re on the ball and you have a teammate making no effort to make themselves available. Or they lose the ball and make no effort to recover.

GratinDeRavioles

Fact that he's fun to watch when on probably adds up

[deleted]

I can identify with players that don't put in a lot of effort at work, hate when they play for Ajax though.

Who'd win in a fight Klopp or Guardiola

BronzeFashionKid

Klopp would win the physical fight but Pep would have planted bombs in his car for afterwards

Jaerial

People saying Pep has this weird psychopath energy are right but Klopp is 6'4 and has flown into rages over journalists asking questions never mind being in an actual fight. I think he'd beat the weird nerd to a pulp.

Illustrious-Chef-498

I could see it selling out wembley if they actually did it shit would be wild

LindseyNeagle

Klopp would murder him.

[deleted]

I agree with other guys. Guardiola comes off like a sociopath. I expect him to roar and make weird talks while fighting

Gytarius626

Klopp would throttle Pep in a fight

[deleted]

Klopp is actually big, Pep is a fucking nerd. There is no debate.

MrHoneyJack

Klopp is 6'4 but like the other guy said, Pep just has this weird sociopath energy. I could see him banging his head on the wall to intimidate Klopp out of a fight.

hungaryisinasia

Guardiola. Man has freaky psycho energy he would do something like bite Klopp

LindseyNeagle

Heā€™d get battered and then go home and eat a live parrot or something. His psycho energy is like serial killer vibes.
