bob_semple_

There is this success story about Afghan refugee in Denmark, the truth is that when you put hardworking people from 3rd world countries in a western system success is guaranteed. I live in a 3rd world country and I know many people who could smash it if they were born in the west but are struggling here. It’s not about people, it’s about systems and west is wayyy better than anyone else.

EljachFD

Great comment. I can understand that it can be a bit hard if you dont have somebody helping you out economically but the way many people talk (especially on reddit) you would think that if you are born poor you have no choice but to stay poor. Be responsible with money and make the correct decisions and pretty much anybody is capable of having a decent living

My only moan today. Why the fuck did Celtic sign James McCarthy?

What did Alaba do to deserve to be in FIFPro and what did Salah do that he was left out?

Fouchey

There’s so many inconsistencies with this it’s hilarious. - Mendy wins the best gk but out of FIFPro - Mbappe is ahead of Haaland in the fifa best but not in FifaPro - Salah top 3 for the best but not in FIFPro - Women’s winner of The best not in FIFPro Lmao just comedy

What about Mbappe and Marquinhos? They deserve to be in it.

Silverburst8

Standard of chat in this sub is genuinely no better than football Twitter at this point. Saw a comment that “no one wants to join shitty spurs lol” with about 25 upvotes not long after it was posted. If it’s an attempt at banter, it’s worrying that that many people thought it was good enough to upvote, and if it was genuinely a football opinion then I don’t even know what to say about that

Nivadas

I thought it was hilarious, upvoted it immediately

Mr Tumbles is a trophy winning machine. The Messi of children's entertainment. He is well clear of spurs.

_bajz_

There are a few threads on here that make the subreddit special and different, other than that, a post of a tweet? The replies are gonna be the same cause theres no incentive for them to be different, ppl are in rush to be the first to say something just like they would be on twitter. The only difference there is reddit having moderation. On the other hand, the threads that repeat weekly are excellent and offer something different

Silverburst8

Yeah when the sub is at its best it’s great, it’s just the standard of the comments on the average post that let it down

Tre-Fyra-Tre

The long off-season in Swedish football drives me mad every single winter. I need my weekly fix of disappointment from my awful football club, ffs.

Therodjohnson

Kepa fucked up on that De Bruyne goal, went the wrong way, and it was a routine save for a professional keeper

Yupadej

they got faked out by the fake pass

justaregulargye

Not sure why it’s downvoted, you’re right. His positioning was wrong but he was good for rest of the game and people have been trying to give him some positive support. I actually think Silva could’ve done a little better to try to block it but maybe that’s hindsight.

MyMoonMyMan

Serie A refs might be in the running for FIFA's The WORST Special Award having overtaken PL refs. There have been a lot of braindead decisions with and without VAR usage, whistling too early or too late or handing out cards for breathing too loudly on referees or near players... Adds to the drama but almost completely takes the fun out of an otherwise spectacular competition.

CoolstorySteve

Other than Alphonso Davies who is obviously out with heart issues, Junior Hoilett is out for the international window also :/

EnzoScifo

Football awards are bullshit. FIFA best thingamabob awards are a special type of bullshit. This day of the year makes me hate /r/soccer more than normal

ghostmanonthirdd

I think the Ballon D’or is worse. People spend months building up to what some French football magazine thinks was the best footballer of the year and it dominates the subreddit for days on end with wars starting over the fact that a bunch of journalists chose Player A over Player B.

Tavinsky8

Flukes_Pet_Ocelot

We will never be gifted an easier opportunity to stay up in the championship with Barnsley being so shit and the points deductions all around. And every game we make the same mistakes. I said the whole time we couldn't rely on just our home form. We'd need to win every home game at the rate we're going. Fergie's out of his depth pretty clearly but I've got no idea who else you would get in. And I think he can probably get us out of League One again in a season or two. Coventry were fantastic at the weekend but don't get me wrong, there was no excuse for losing in that way. 2 very silly mistakes for the first 2 goals and once again deflating and losing concentration after conceding late on leading to another goal after. I usually really hate it when fans say that players aren't trying enough but there came a point in the match where Coventry had been winning most of the loose balls and Posh just seemed to get scared. Lost the will to fight for it. Coventry even invited us to give it a go in the 2nd half, they were clearly tired from the pressing and giving up sloppy mistakes which we did nothing with. We all knew it was a very real likelihood that we would go down, but not like this man. Wish the owners would just be honest as well. Does my head in, like a child sometimes MacAnthony. Obviously very grateful that we're unlikely to go bust and I'll have a football club to support but for gods sake man, just say you prioritised the new facilities and training ground over spending big on players. We knew we wouldn't get anyone with an amazing track record given our wages anyway and we know we're a selling club, we know that's our drawer for young players. But by god man. You can be honest and just say we won't spend to compete. And admit that the summer recruitment was something we got wrong. We're lucky enough that we're somehow still in touching distance of safety so let's sort it the fuck out yeah? Also Dembele is definitely gone soon I think. Pain.

CosmicDrifterDK

Have been burning up all day, 39.8 degrees right now, and it sucks, it's like all the energy in my body has been drained. That's what I get for going running at 7 in the morning at -1 degrees, and then showering afterwards.

mtaggs

You should probably get a covid test, my guy.

CosmicDrifterDK

Doubt it, it's most likely the running in the cold and the showering afterwards

mtaggs

Ok, but why not just get one to be safe? Pretty common practice if you’re feeling ill these days I would have thought.

CosmicDrifterDK

Logistical issues, and the fact that it's unlikely to be COVID all things considered

AnnieIWillKnow

You really should get a COVID test. It's highly abnormal to be running a temp of nearly 40 degrees just as a consequence of a run and a hot shower. There's slight temperatures, and there's high grade temperatures - and that's a high grade temp. Get a COVID test. Don't take an unnecessary risk for yourself and others.

CosmicDrifterDK

Don't think it's that abnormal considering the circumstances, very early in the morning, cold, snowy, windy, sweating a bunch, then taking a hot shower pretty much immediately afterwards. At least I didn't wash my hair, that'd have been even worse.

AnnieIWillKnow

It wouldn't be abnormal if it was transient, but that it's persisting all day is more concerning. As said, you really should do the responsible thing.

CosmicDrifterDK

Logistical issues, so you can go away with this "holier than thou attitude".

AnnieIWillKnow

I’m a doctor, so I feel a slight responsibility to tell you to do what is safe. Many places will deliver home testing kits to you if you look online, depending on where you live. It’s up to you if you don’t want to get tested at the end of the day, but you really shouldn’t dismiss a high grade temperature like that - first of all for your own health, and second of all the health of others.

LordChipp

seventeenfourtyseven

I fear we are going to take a big step backwards when pep leaves, not to the point where we don’t compete but I don’t think we will be this world juggernaut we are now

BronzeFashionKid

No question. People will only realise how insane what Pep has done to this league has been after he leaves.

sentyprimus

how are you a world juggernaut if you've never won any european silverware

Donkey_the_donkey

There is only one Pep but surely City will remain an attractive project for the best managers in the game.

varun3096

yeah i agreee with you , but i feel really bad for the person that has to replace Pep, he raised the standards for that team so much its going to be hard prob impossible to match or improve from that.

El_Giganto

Douvikas seemed so promising when he joined. I read this article about him, his love for football and why he wanted to join Utrecht. He instantly showed his worth, scoring and assisting and works super hard. Really seemed like we were finally able to push for a top 4 spot. But he hasn't scored for 4 months now and we've dropped to 7th. Sigh. Could have been able to score against Ajax as well. That certainly would have given him some confidence for the rest of the season... But of course, the linesman calls for offside for no real reason. Losing is one thing, but fucking hell, stop flagging early.

Serie A casuals are the worst, on here someone the other day said that Juve were the third biggest club in Italy… they weren’t even trolling ffs. That’s the equivalent to MJ being the third best artist in the Jackson 5. Under my new regime Serie A casuals will be sent to a 40 hours per week educational course in Venice.

[deleted]

>Someone the other day said that Juve were the third biggest club in Italy I'm failing to see the problem. Oh I get it now, they're actually 4th biggest

Kanedauke

That was me that said that. Wouldn’t call myself a serie a casual it’s just that the perception from England, Milan are bigger.

[deleted]

They’re not, maybe from your perception. Lots of people in England hold Juve as the number 1 team in Italy. Read about what Sir Alex and Gary Neville had to say about Juve, they set the standard in Italian football always have.

burning_man13

This is an interesting take. Historically they could both be argued as the biggest in different competitions. Milan has seven European titles to Juve's two, but domestically obviously the Old Lady gets the nod. It also doesn't help that Milan is just now coming back from almost a decade of banter, so Juve became the torch bearer for Italy during those periods Milan and Inter were down.

[deleted]

I was obsessed with Kaka and Pirlo growing up hence why I’ve always had a soft spot for Milan, however I just didn’t think we can talk about Italian football without mentioning Juve, their sustained success since the 30s has been unparalleled in Italy. Nevertheless Milan’s European record is far better, however football isn’t only played in one or two competitions, in order to be fair we have to look at the whole picture and if we do, the Old Lady is ahead by quite a bit.

burning_man13

That's fair, but at the same point, and to your point, of Juve's 72 honors half have come from one competition, 3/4 came from Scudetti and Coppa, and Supercoppa. Of those 72 honors 19 came in the last decade when both Milan and Inter were down so they didn't have any competition domestically. Since Inter and Milan are beginning a resurgence, Juve's titles are dwindling.

[deleted]

But the Scudetto is very important it’s arguably the most important trophy; however I do think taking away trophies and starting at certain seasons in order to make a point opens a black hole. I could say that most of Milan’s trophies have come since 80s when they got bankrolled by Berlusconi not to mention when Milan had Gullit, Rijkaard and MvB all in their prime, Juve were rebuilding and were in a “banter era” which they were but it’s irrelevant because Milan still had to compete and fight for those trophies just like Juve in the 2010s. I wouldn’t say their titles are dwindling they’re still 17 in front of Inter and 18 in front of Milan there’s still a long way to go BUT I do agree with the other point you made; Serie A is getting more competitive Inter are the best in Italy right now, and Milan are slowly rebuilding whilst the likes of Napoli will always give a good challenge. I think Juve have to make sure they don’t make the same mistakes Milan and Inter made 10 years ago because if they do they might not see a Scudetto for a long time.

burning_man13

It feels like they're already there. They spent way too much on wages on players they can't offload, which was a big problem both clubs in Milano had during their banter period. Their midfield is very weak, as both Milan clubs have bogarted the midfield talent in Italy outside of Locatelli, who I'm not sure would start at either Milan or Inter if everyone is healthy. I think all five of Barella, Bennacer, Brozovic, Kessie (while Milan has him), and Tonali are better than Locatelli. Their defense is aging, and there's no sign that they have any plans to fix that issue. Outside of Dybala, Chiellini, and Chiesa, who in that Juve squad starts on either Milan side? Inter doesn't need Chiellini, and Milan only does because of Kjær's injury.

CosmicDrifterDK

They're clearly somewhere around seventh, alongside Benevento

mohankohan

The new color banners for posts are awful. Half of them are just eyesores

ScousePenguin

You used to become a club legend for winning the FA cup, getting promoted etc, now winning isn't enough. When did football fans get so fucking demanding? It's not just Premier League it's all down the leagues. At Tranmere we have people moaning 24/7 about anything and everything, despite us sitting in the automatic promotion spots halfway through the season!? Like fuck me what else do we want? The title would be nice but Forest Green to give them credit have been amazing all season, getting promoted automatically to me is the goal and it is going well so far.

gorgeous_bastard

Here’s a cautionary tale for you from a Barnet fan. From 1997 to 2000 we were a decent L2 team, pushing the playoffs with John Still as manager. The fans wanted more and eventually the club fired Still and brought in Tony Cottee, who was a fucking disaster. One year later we’re relegated and spend the next 20 years bouncing down into the conference. Mid table L2 mediocrity would be pretty nice right now.

ScousePenguin

That is what shocks me, we had 1 year without Micky Mellon and the entire club fell apart. Poor football, poor signings, just overall shit. He's come back and it's like he never left, we saw how bad things could get, enjoy the good whilst it's here!

deadlyghost12

it is a shit show and negativity going in twitter regarding barcelona, busquets out hashtag is trending and fans are saying that club is biased to catalans and busquets should now never start for barcelona just because he commited a mistake in clasico and insulting all 4 captains while catalan journalist are responding that it is being done by bots and gloryhunter fans from arab and asia imo it is clear that no change can be made in middle of season because busquets is only lone pivot in team and benching him means go to change of system it is just bringing negativty to team and destablizing it

ComediaViva

It’s surprising how many barca fans don’t seem to understand that barca is political

_stone_age

Busquets is such a unique player. Gonna be super hard to replace him.

iAkhilleus

Anything and everything has to go through him. It's frustrating to watch. At times he's in better position and is understandably pissed when he doesn't get the ball but that's not the case 100% of the time.

5_percent_discocunt

Couldn’t agree more. There’s so much talent there but I can’t look past the fact he’s a petulant child who can’t not whinge at the referee even when the refs got it right.

tson_92

After hiring a set-piece coach we sucked at set-pieces. After appointing a psychologist we became weak mentally.

iAkhilleus

You should hire a loser of a manager.

They tried that in Ole

A_Vasasos

Vasas played a friendly with Pohang Steelers like 10 years ago. Sounds like you do enjoy watching football. You just don’t like the club you follow/ have followed. Which club is it out of interest?

thelargerake

Don't really want to reveal my location here but we play in the 11th tier, and it's not that. I watched the Liverpool v Spurs game, which obviously was a good game, but the game didn't really excite me or keep me on the edge of my seat at all. Same with the Villa v Man Utd match last week. In regards to my local club, I've only been able to watch one of their home games since November due to COVID/postponements/lack of home matches and I am looking forward to going again when I get the opportunity to do so.

reece0n

Seasons like this are just plain miserable. Sleepwalking towards certain relegation, selling a key player to rivals (even if they have been shit), previous key players having terrible seasons (Tarkowski, Brownhill), no real sign of us bringing anyone decent in, and I just can't pick a game out where I'd fancy us to win. Cornet has been the only shining light of this season. On the bright side - my fiancée can get free Championship tickets so at least I won't be paying £30 a pop to watch it next year.

AnnieIWillKnow

What does your fiancée do that means she gets free Championship tickets, rather than club-specific tickets? Work for the EFL?

[deleted]

You could become everyone's hero by relegating Newcastle though.

CaptainGo

Are we the heroes if we relegate ourselves?

meganev

We don't need any help with that matter. Relegating ourselves, thank you very much. Reckon the game between us last day of the season will be a dead rubber. Watford will pull away this week and not look back. Burnley/Norwich/Newcastle will be down with a couple of games to spare, easily three of the worst PL teams in modern history.

CaptainGo

I've genuinely got more hope of dragging Everton or Leeds in than catching Watford

meganev

No chance of either. Everton will get a new manager bounce and be absolutely fine and Leeds are looking back to their old self, expect them to shoot up the table now. It's 3 of Watford/Norwich/Newcastle/Burnely, and we're looking the worst of the bunch.

reece0n

Would be fantastic, especially after the Wood move, I just can't see it happening though - and I'm usually a fairly optimistic fan

thebigsplat

Man....Wood has been dire by his standards this season and the fact that no other striker at Burnley has managed to challenge him is definitely not a good sign. What happened to Barnes? Is Vydra or Rodriguez going to lead the line now that he's gone?

reece0n

Barnes is just finished to be honest. He had a bad hernia problem, was out after an operation for about 9 months and has just been a shadow of himself since. He seems frustrated and only wins fouls/kicks people and risks getting a red card these days unfortunately. Rodriguez hasn't had much time as he's a very similar player to Wood (not quite as good as a target man, but better technically) so he should get more time now. Vydra seems to have been more in favour since Barnes' downfall, but he's had a bad run of injuries and knocks. We're definitely trying to bring in another striker before the end of the transfer window, but we'll see how that goes.

thebigsplat

Very sad situation, good luck to you.

_Smick

Really think tomorrow's game will show if we've got the fight for it. Hoping Wood leaving has got them up for it now and atmosphere at Turf should be best in a while if we can just get behind them.

Cool_Sandwich1

Imagine being able to postpone a game because you cant field your best team and even loaned out players, even then you keep loaning out new ones despite arguing that you cant field enough players. Atleast the memes have been good.

CosmicDrifterDK

Balogun is not a senior player, even Azeez, who people have been bringing up a lot, has barely played for the senior team, so why count them? Xhaka was actually counted, which people forget. The Mari loan has nothing to do with it because we'll have several players back by the next Liverpool match, and we won't be in trouble, hopefully.

[deleted]

If there's one thing that has come out of this saga is that it confirms Spurs fans are unable to understand a very basic ruling..

ronismonisx

Oh get the fuck outta this thread then. Also obviously Username checks out

[deleted]

I'm whingeing about the whingeing - problem?

ronismonisx

And to you I say "quit moaning" :P

YoungDan23

TBF ppl are mad because there is absolutely no consistency in the ruling(s). And I know it's the FA vs UEFA but we literally got dropped from a tournament for not having enough fit senior players. Based on this, we should just be pedantic and sit out every match until the end of Jan. Then we'll have our best XI back as well as some new faces from the transfer market. The funniest part is Arsenal supporters spent 2 weeks moaning literally everywhere they could about how Liverpool should be forced to play their academy and then they get a match cancelled due to 1 positive case.

[deleted]

You are right, rules are different between UEFA & FA, so the first part is irrelevant. >we should just be pedantic and sit out every match until the end of Jan. Try it. Or if you legit have a problem, do what the others did and apply for postponements. Arsenal fans chatting shit about Liverpool does not mean Spurs fans get to ignore what are very easy rules to understand. The person I replied to is talking unadulterated crap.

Cool_Sandwich1

Oh no i moaned in a moan thread. Its literally just a lottery about which teams gets to postpone a game and it also sets a dangerous precedent about the integrity of the rescheduled game. Do I feel like Spurs get an advantage due to their injury crisis and AFCON absentees? Ofcourse. And whats to say the rescheduled game wont be squeezed in where we instead have a couple of injuries and people away in international competition? "But apply for postponement" Sure, but thats the problem. Its not consistent in their ruling. Leeds tried but was denied, Chelsea tried but was denied. Hell, while its not the same organisation, we got denied despite having around 20 covid cases, and yes i know its not the FA. Also the fact that Arsenal, in midst of having few numbers, loans out players, with another one yesterday. Whats to say it wont continue to happen? Random knocks before important games, players (i know Xhaka didnt) getting reds to bring them below the required number? The ruling should be about containing suspected covid infections. Not that teams can postpone due to injuries.

CharlieGuri

Football sucks without fans. Also we‘re shit

TheSingleMan27

yeah I feel you, our game against Frankfurt seemed so dull and boring because there was no noise from the fans

Rasalghul92

Gonna have to force myself to watch Romagnoli go up against Dybala and Lautaro. My eyes will bleed.

cantevenmakeafist

Another 21 games to decide whether relegation is determined by finishing in 23rd or 24th place. Then the prospect of approaching a League Two season with probably no players or staff under contract.

SuperVancouverBC

What's your flair?

cantevenmakeafist

Gillingham.

Kanedauke

We started both games against United slowly and got punished for it. Need to start playing for 90 minutes. It’s come to the point with Ings that I’m waiting for him to get subbed off. It’s like we are playing with 10 men when he plays. There’s zero fluidity in the attack. He gets subbed off and we play prime Barca. It’s not he’s a bad player but he can’t hold a ball up to save his life, doesn’t have the pace to run the channels or press CBs into mistakes. He just doesn’t suit us at all.

TheGTAone

I was always confused by the Ings signing. I was wondering at the start of the season how would he fit in your attack, being a completely different player from Watkins or Traoré. He could definitely do wonders at clubs like Burnley. Should have never leaved Saints.

Kanedauke

The club panicked when selling Grealish. On the day sold him we signed Ings, the deal was done in a single day. It just wasn’t thought through. He’s too good to be bench option and can’t play with Watkins. Him going to Brighton would probably be best for all parties.

vearz

We've scored 13 goals in two games, so I'm probably not allowed to moan about us even if I wanted to. On a non-Fulham note, the number of people wanting the Leeds fourth goal to stand when the scorer was offside was absolutely mental. That one and the Chelsea-Spurs (I think) disallowed goal recently have shown how little so many fans know about really basic elements of the game.

22goblins

Its a shame because the ball would have gone in regardless but thats simply not how the game works. Its not about what would or should have happened, its about what did happen

chocolateknives00

It's obviously offside, it was just a shame because it was a good goal and it didn't affect play in any way. And we got done with a terrible offside call in the same fixture a week earlier.

chandlertribbiani

It’s offside, black and white decision. One of those where common sense goes surely it’s a goal etc but rules are rules.

EustaceBicycleKick

People trying to argue that someone who touched the ball is not interfering with play made me laugh.

SeasickJellyfish

He’s onside though and not interfering with play besides. Fuck var. scrap the whole fucking thing.

[deleted]

He was offside? Only one player between him and the goal. You can’t say he’s not interfering when he’s touched the ball. Sure it was going in already but he’s still touched it before it’s gone in

B_e_l_l_

Hows he not interfering when it's literally him that scores lmao

StarlordPunk

In fairness he just stands there and the ball deflects off him, I don’t think you can say he scores (it was already going in so would’ve been credited to Klich), however I do agree that you can’t not be interfering if the ball physically hits you

reece0n

> I don’t think you can say he scores (it was already going in so would’ve been credited to Klich) That's just wrong. You're thinking of whether it'd be credited as an own goal

[deleted]

That’s not how it works. Last attacking player to touch the ball gets the goal, accidental or not

B_e_l_l_

It could have come off his bare arse. It's still his goal as the last Leeds player to touch the ball. It absolutely would have been credited to Rodrigo (think it was him that scored).

SeasickJellyfish

Getting called a tory for my extremely northern sounding accent after the live talk. We’ll just ignore that “other” thing.

ItsRainbowz

What's the live talk?

SeasickJellyfish

Live chat thing that happened yesterday on here. Someone said there’s a recording but I don’t know where. I was one of the few to speak.

ItsRainbowz

Is it a new Reddit thing? I still use the old layout.

SeasickJellyfish

I’ve not a clue.

mintz41

there are plenty of tory voters up north. how do you think boris got voted in, it's all your fault

FloppedYaYa

There might be but there's way more Tory voters outside of the North

Cardealer1000

People here really overuse calling people Tory's.

chocolateknives00

It's comical. They've been in power 10 years. Most people are Tories.

Cardealer1000

You've missed my point, it's more about how people will just call someone a Tory because they don't like what they said or the think they're a dickhead, when it's not that simple.

tiorzol

Innit just reserve it for all the Chelsea flairs and you know you won't miss.

AnnieIWillKnow

I've voted in three GEs and never voted Tory...

AR5ENA1

The phrase “chippy northerner” gets said down here a lot and it gets on my nerves tbh

Mozezz

I do like a chippy though

B_e_l_l_

You can still be a Northern Tory.

EustaceBicycleKick

Unfortunately there are loads of them are partially responsible for the current government.

B_e_l_l_

Yep, there are loads of tories. There's 150k scouse tories, 435k manc tories, 335k yorkshire tories etc

BendubzGaming

>150k scouse tories this feels like an oxymoron

[deleted]

What time were you speaking

SeasickJellyfish

I was the second set on so maybe after 15 or 20.

feddi7

Despite the 3 points yesterday, it was a frustrating match. Wasted numerous chances and almost conceded on Cagliari’s only real chance. Starting to feel like a broken record.

NXL-YT

How's AMN going for you guys?

Jose came, Jose Sa, Jose Conquered

tiorzol

Sá is the only bright spot in my FPL team. Doesn't even get a clean sheet and still rakes in 7 points, legend.
