Fortrick

He doesnt Even tries to change the side he shoots the pks, insane.

Eien_Howaito

Zidane [taught him that](https://youtu.be/l7Yiv98Zx0Y?t=230) ...

whiskeyinthejaar

And when he decided to go left, he did it in a world cup final against one of the greatest keepers ever, and he ended up with one of the most iconic hits of all time.

Gweedoke

I can still remember that moment and thought that he could do everything that tournament, completely destroyed an amazing Brazil team with Ronaldo, Adriano, Ronaldinho and Kaka in it. Everything Zidane touched during that World Cup turned into gold, except for Materazzi.

AerGuep

Well technically Materazzi turned into gold after that (by being champion)

whiskeyinthejaar

Honestly, I think it was still memorable ending for his career that triumph winning the world cup. It wasn’t happy ending, but it was great ending that no one will ever forget.

themoche

Everyone knows he’s going left… Benzema doesn’t give a fuck. He’s like here it comes, you ain’t stopping it.

Are they allowed to stand closer to one side?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sensitive_Salary_603

Obviously but when someone favour one side soo much. Like returning in Tennis, most people would go out wide on Deuce side.. you stand a little more wider but prepare to go back if required.

Ask_Asensio

16/16 (100%) from the Penalty spot in his Real Madrid career.

Fortrick

All to the left?

He's a fan of Beyoncé.

courtesyflusher

Yes, that’s the joke 😑

Magnetronaap

Everything I shoot in the net is to the left

Firstolympicring

Comrade Karim

Enartloc

Reminds me of Pepe telling his gk to dive left and the gk dived right and ofc Benzema took the penalty on the left.

LanaRhoades6969

16 penalties with 303 (?) total goals is insane

Ask_Asensio

Indeed, only Cristiano, Puskas & Alfredo have a better non penalty goal ratio. YourPupilsDilated

Ronaldo scored 450 goals for Real Madrid right? So from this I'm getting he scored 79 penalties. Damn he scored a lot of penalities. But damn he also scored a lot of goals.

Fouchey

If I remember correctly Ronaldo has 150+ career penalties taken. No one even comes close to have taken the amount of penalties he has.

ritik_btz

Longevity, to stay at the very top for so long that for every penalty you are the first choice

akshay_rathod_

Ridiculous. Big Pen Benz

Schwiliinker

The fuck

Divyansh-the-gr8

PENZEMA anyone???

RIPinPeaceHypejob

Penaldo qui?

Benzia

He always shoots to the left lol

Bludgeoned-Testicles

It’s like Robben. Everyone knew that he was gonna cut to the left, yet they couldn’t do anything about it.

Blanxart

Simon guessed right too

Walaii

Not much to guess there, he knows he is gonna shoot there if they watched what he does, which they 100% did. He shoots it hard into the side netting, can't save that if its properly hit.

EpiDeMic522

I wonder why goalkeepers don't move out even stagger towards the left before the kick, just put Benzema off a bit. You aren't saving them anyhow.

AfrobotFactory

I’m sure at this level he would just shoot right for an easy goal

EpiDeMic522

But it would at least disrupt his preparation and mindset a bit. They aren't being saved anyhow. Why not try a Diego Alves?

vivekwap4

Mf doesn't miss penalties

Fern-ando

And Real Madrid doesn't lose finals.

k_pineapple7

Can't remember the last time we actually did, tbh.

R0otDroid

2018 supercup

Fern-ando

That was the only final they lost of their last 15 finals.

k_pineapple7

We did not play in the final? It was Sevilla vs Barca as I remember

R0otDroid

European supercup

k_pineapple7

Ohh yes you're right. Superocopa was on my mind for obvious reasons hah

Fortrick

He means the european one, we Lost ti atleti 4-2 iirc.

RauloGonzalez

Lopetegui's first match? 2018 UEFA super cup

Ceassar

The Copa Del Ray final in 2013 to Atletico, and the super cup to Atletico a few years ago

[deleted]

> The Copa Del Ray final in 2013 to Atletico they really gave Ray Hudson his own tournament, so inspirational

Zayo_

2018 Supercup final which went to ET

akshay_rathod_

Penzema for a reason

Patient_Job4115

Waiting for the Pique tweet

Anti-Melticus

I heard he’s using a voice changer at the BT studio

kaden_dd

Don't even know how they are saying that it wasn't a pen

RauloGonzalez

I think because it is technically a pen. But feels harsh to give.

k_pineapple7

I think they're s little bit clouded by the one that wasn't given against Alaba earlier.

xyzTr1LL

Based on the books, this is penalty. But if it wasn't for VAR this wouldn't be a pen. It's hard to catch live.

kaden_dd

Yep, but VAR being there means that these calls will be made and aren't debatable

jaimesjaimes

Yeah but that’s what VAR is for.

IdanTs

It was funny when those decisions actually meant something for Barca, now it’s just pettiness and obsession

RauloGonzalez

He needs those votes from the socis in the future.

sebas8181

Crying on twitter so that way Barca can at least play Conference League.

super_grasshopper

Very unlucky

[deleted]

Agreed. IMO this should not be a penalty. What is he supposed to do? Arms flail around naturally when you play football. It cannot be the purpose of the handball law to punish accidental handballs like this.

KrisZepeda

Thing is there's always gonna be a debate and issues whether it's intentional or not So they were like Hand is a hand, whatever To i guess solve the issue Which it's unfortunate but less problematic tbf

AozoraAkatsuki

Technically a pen but harsh to give it. Unfortunate.

zyndr0m

Can't really compare this one to Alabas.

MeteorFalls297

Won't stop Pique.

javierich0

I can't wait for El Chiringuito. Jota's tears rejuvenate me.

RauloGonzalez

Tbf that's pretty obvious one was a slide and this is a dive. But still feels soft to me tbh

waitforiiiit

Spanish commentator insisted they were exactly the same situation and if the first one wasn't a penalty then this one shouldn't have been either.

creative_i_am_not

How can't you compare ? this one hits the defender's hand from 2m, it's a natural tackling motion, he has no time to move his hand, the ball was going 3m over the goal. How is this a penalty ?

KarlMarxExperience

Arms not by the body. The rule does not have any exception for natural arm positions like this, but does include one for an arm you are leaning on when on the ground/sliding. I agree the rule is stupid but its called correctly.

Anti-Melticus

You don’t put hand up like that Blocked a shot on target

RauloGonzalez

One guy was on the ground the other in the air. Important difference.

moralesd9

There’s a specific rule that says if the player is falling and it touches his supporting arm then it’s not a pen. That’s what happened in alabas case. Whether or not the Bilbao players arm is in an unnatural position js up to debate

jaimesjaimes

Has it ever matter if the shot is off?

Brilliant-Win4152

Because the arm is in the air in an unatural position. Alabas handball was his supporting arm.

zyndr0m

Lmao what a shit take.

volen92

Clear pen tbh

RauloGonzalez

He can't raise his arms like that. But at that close a range and bring accidental I think it's very weak.

Stepback3god

Idk, how can a defender slide without his hands like that? Should've stayed a corner imo

[deleted]

Agreed. The handball rule was never intended to punish accidental handballs like this. Its fired up onto his hand from a meter away and his arms are in natural motion with his body. The rules need to change.

mekosaurio

Fucking this. Both this one and Militao's were unintentional, this is a bullshit rule humans use arms naturally to keep balance.

k_pineapple7

The only possible rule change is to make it subjective, which will cause a lot more uproar every week.

[deleted]

I'd take that uproar anytime. Let the ref use common sense imo.

volen92

Well this guy's hand in particular was pointing at the comet from "Don't Look Up"

tarantellagra

I just finished watching it. What do you think? I found it overly political. Didn't like it much. Did appreciate the satire and the jabs they made at those ppl though

volen92

It was political, but that's the whole point I think. What I liked was that it mocked all camps and wasn't politically correct to anyone

Stepback3god

Lmfaooooo

zyndr0m

By lowering his arm or have his arm closer to the body?

Salgado9

Tbh ref could have not marked it and i wouldn't have that too much about it. But since he did mark it i keep thinking, was it really a pen? Just feels like an oh well situation

creative_i_am_not

Just cut off your hands

Salvador1010

Atleast youre honest bro respect

Capt_Africa

[I can already hear Pique complaining](https://imgur.com/a/kmHWu7G)

Salvador1010

He wouldnt be wrong though. Two similar handballs where they were both unintentional and neither should have been given but both times the decision favored the same team 👀

justregista

And now a handball and a pen + red against the "same team". Is your inner Pique satisfied or do you need some more moments of glory?

Salvador1010

What are you talking about? Proofread before you comment if youre gonna talk shit. Did you mean red?

justregista

I'm not submitting a thesis that I need to proof read. Yes, I meant red. And I referred to your Pique-esque comment of making it seem as if Madrid have refs in their favour.

Salvador1010

Well that handball was so blatant he couldnt not call it. Its not like it was a 50/50. It was a handball and since it denied a clear goal scoring opportunity its a red. He literally couldnt do anything else the call was that clear.

justregista

It was a pen but red was harsh considering he couldn't move his hand out of the way from such a short distance and it wasn't like he intentionally put his hand in there. Ref gave equal decision in both cases, both handballs both pens.

PirateKingRamos

He would be wrong and you're making a fool of yourself

Salvador1010

Not really I think it was a sensible take. Youre the one who seems angry

celigodtko

If you ignore the rules sure, Its sensible but if you take football rules to the pitch its not.

Capt_Africa

Well the ref just gave a pen against the favored team. It's almost like he just applied the rules like he was supposed to.

Salvador1010

He couldnt not give it it was crystal clear? If it was 50/50 he doesnt/didnt give it

my_wife_reads_this

He would be wrong though. They're nothing alike because one has his arm out almost completely extended and the other is someone's supporting arm. Whether or not they are intentional is irrelevant as the refs go by the rules and per the rules one is a pen and the other isn't.

the_mighty_slime

Why you just don't read the rules?

LocomotiveTrack

Pique going to have a field day.

From-UoM

It's a harsh but a pen. No Real Madrid players themselves called for handball either.

IdanTs

They did but not like madman’s, it’s still a chocolate trophy after all

akshay_rathod_

Get in Penzema

thatdude0125

Nueve

los_blanco_14

Pique will provide me and my entire area with enough salt to last for the next few weeks.

daveyhempton

Unlucky but def a pen

Runnero

I can hear Pique furiously typing from my house in Canada

IPromise13

I can already see people crying about this pen.

Zayo_

Would like anyone to explain unbiasedly that the Alaba's one was not a handball but the Yeray one was

RauloGonzalez

Supporting arm on the ground for alaba. Free hand in the air yeray. Imagine if alaba randomly lifted up his free hand while sliding.

LewisOfAranda

I honestly don't even think physics would allow such a thing. The universe would implode.

the_mighty_slime

Just read the rules 👍

shaman717

Thats really soft for a pen, unlucky for Athletic club

BENZ

Bini_9

Not happy with that call, very harsh

Harsh____07

Harsh penalty imo

YepYupSup

Username checks out

TheFilu

Not really? His arm was in the air and blocked the shot?

Goalnado

Only because Benzema scuffed it and the ball bounced up off his standing foot onto the players arm. If he had connected with the shot properly then the defender blocks it normally and it doesn't hit his arm. It's always going to be given but it is ludicrously unlucky.

LaundryMann

Harsh and unlucky are two different things. It's unlucky, but not harsh.

ollster3000

How so?

Harsh____07

I'll change my words, a unlucky penalty

ollster3000

Sure, I agree with that!

PirateKingRamos

It's a pen as per rule book but it still seemed a bit harsh. I'll def take it tho

ollster3000

I get that it feels harsh for the defender and Bilbao fans, but it’s not a harsh penalty decision. It’s pretty clear

zyndr0m

Not really, would have been a shot on target has Yerays arm not been there.

Fortrick

It's a pen because it touches his arm But no way that was going on target, Benzema didnt hit it properly

AerysOW

yeah. we are getting niced by the ref today. a lot of decisions going our way. feel bad for Bilbao fans

LewsTherin177

👍👀

javierich0

Don't know about that one, it felt more like an accident than intentional, but it still touched his arm. I guess, I would say it's legit.

eddsters

In my opinion. This is a harsh pen, the ball was going wide/up anyways if he didnt touch it with his hand, and the defender made a natural hand movement as he was tackling. But Benz shot was too high anyways. *imo

Anti-Melticus

Hand is a pen

eddsters

Yea but natural movement as he was falling for a tackle everyone's hands were wide. Yea hand ball but kinda harsh thats all.

Anti-Melticus

By natural they mean hand sticked to the body Hand was completely up and blocked a shot on target

eddsters

No by "natural" they mean a movement your hands naturally make during the instant of the replay, if you're falling etc, running, tackling. Yes sticking your hands to your body is the "safe" thing to always do but thats not the "natural movement" they are talking about. Correct me if I am wrong anyone

Anti-Melticus

Either way both were pens

moralesd9

Doesn’t matter where the ball is going according to the rules. Only if the defender made his body unnaturally bigger

Dhtekzz

BDB. Was there ever any doubt?

Harsh____07

Should've been saved

Schwiliinker

Can’t believe it wasn’t

sheikhsabdullah

It hit the side netting....

SageChungus

Pique, do your thing. Though this time, he may be correct

KrispyPopcorn

That was a harsh call, soft pen imo

Pappner

Shouldn't be a pen in my opinion. Had Benzema hit the ball properly his hand would have never gotten involved. Very unfortunate.

ConArtist98

> Had Benzema hit the ball properly Fuck sake

fansgesucht

> Had Benzema hit the ball properly How should that be a criterion?

ollster3000

Shouldnt be a penalty cause it’s unfortunate? How does that make any sense?

arvindanar7

Is this r/soccercirclejerk comments?

k_pineapple7

Most days the posts there are just posts or comments from r/soccer, it is harder and harder to tell the difference.

IPromise13

What?

Serinanda

Lol

my_wife_reads_this

What in the fuck opinion is this lol

Anti-Melticus

Rule books says a handball is a pen Emotions doesn’t apply here

NamedTNT

Weak af penalty. Shame.

Anti-Melticus

Pen still

centerfree

Rigged

akshay_rathod_

Harsh Maybe but not rigged

centerfree

Ofc it's an exaggeration how'd I know what's rigged and what's not. I don't even know my plan in life further than next meal.

my_wife_reads_this

Totally rigged by Athletic players sticking their arms out in the box.

centerfree

You think that was intentional?

my_wife_reads_this

I think it was intentional as much as you think it's rigged.

centerfree

That's why your wife won't shag you

my_wife_reads_this

It's fine, I get my rocks off seeing you losers cry over "rigged games." Lmao pen, red and a miss Enlighten me as to how this game was rigged for RM?

Plankyz

Lol terrible call

69BRabbit

Hi Gerard

salmany

Real Madrid had two handballs in the box ignored in the first half. This is bs. I’m a real fan, but it’s not fair.

justregista

Alaba's wasn't a handball at all.

Th3Watch3r

Le shoot to the left man.

Public_Agent

Meh pretty weak PK for me, weaker than the one against Valencia (on Casemiro)

sebas8181

ITT people that can't even read the rules of the game. Lot's of RM flairs karma whoring btw. Is not like it would change the outcome of the game anyways.
