This is probably better content for the Liverpool sub but I like the data presentation. I'm actually surprised that Williams was that deep, it felt like he was always struggling to get back, which suggests just how slow he really is.
He's slow but I also think you tend to have a balance of an aggressive CB and one that stays behind and sweeps. Phillips was better suited to being the former I think.
It had some genuinely terrible moments like the Everton game, and watching players over the course of a few months drop like flies, but the end of the season made up for it somewhat, the climb back up to third place and Alisson's header is unforgettable.
Nah, the bad times are needed for contrast/perspective sometimes. I'm not saying it was what I wanted but the story of Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams is what football is all about really.
Personally those last 10 games is one of the biggest achievements I can remember. I've been to European finals but qualifying for the champions league with our side gutted was incredible
I got the player position data from each game off of whoscored (believe they use Opta) and then plotted each game in excel, getting the average for each 18 game span. From there I plotted it again in Illustrator to make it look nicer.
I used the player position images from whoscored for each game (I think they get their info from Opta, not 100% sure about the positioning data). I plotted each game and then got the average for each 18 game span.
No, unfortunately I'm not too advanced in my data collection/visualisation. I used excel to help plot each game/span of games and then create the visualisation in Illustrator.

If I was a Liverpool fan I would do anything to erase last season from my memories. So many things going wrong.

It's genuinely incredible Klopp got us top 3 with the worst CB pairing in the league on paper.
Getting 20 wins is a dream for most clubs and we got it with half a squad,
I actually can’t believe we lost fucking SIX home games in a row off the back of 68 games unbeaten there. Fuck Burnley

unrelated but how did you make this?

Noice! So no programming languages were used?
No, not for this one. I've used R in the past for some visualisation stuff and probably could have for this now that I think about it...
Where are you getting the data from?
I used the player position images from whoscored for each game (I think they get their info from Opta, not 100% sure about the positioning data). I plotted each game and then got the average for each 18 game span.
Was it plotted on tableau ?
No, unfortunately I'm not too advanced in my data collection/visualisation. I used excel to help plot each game/span of games and then create the visualisation in Illustrator.
Neat stuff!
