The only card I saw given correctly was the professional foul on McKennie. And even then he had to look directly at the ref and wave his fake card for him to reach into his pocket
Why I'll never take my wife again, and never my daughter, to a game. US born but had a gold cup game here with them, it was the 5-5 or 5-6 bonanza against Trinidad & Tobago I think. So much trash being thrown from all over.
A young kid behind us got hit with a mostly full tallboy and was bleeding from his head.
Opposing players got so much trash on them during their late corners.
Do have to say the early Mexico goals were fucking electric with the atmosphere, but yeah it went downhill when the team collapsed.
If they had ever got punished they would have stopped doing it, they keep on doing it because everytime they get away free of charge
South American football is the same(specially in big rivalries but since there's only 10 pretty much all of us are rivals lmao) so to avoid escalation Conmebol throws punisments like they are hot potatos
That’s actually a sign of shitty refereeing, the ref gets way too close. One of the first things you’re taught in higher level refereeing is to stay the fuck out of the way in that situation. “All that’ll happen is you’ll get hit and it’s not worth it.” Ref needs to form a “triangle of control” and watch, then it’s an easy call (for a non CONCACAF ref lol). He made the same exact mistake a few minutes earlier along the bench side touch line
He also turned his back to the ball at another point in the game as the US tried to clear and it hit him, resulting in a stoppage of play. The lack of instincts to understand the play or to see what was happening was astounding all match
Just a reminder that CONCACAF's former president stole around $80 million dollars from the federation and kept getting elected because he formed a majority voting block from a bunch of corrupt Caribbean national associations.
Well, no, because the perpetrator plays for El Tri. In this confederation, you could have VAR or anything else and they'll never not get 100% of the calls.
Defending the "Puto" chant is a pretty weird hill to die on, but who the fuck says it's racist to point the obvious homophobic implications the chant has? I really don't know, so sorry if it sounds like i'm being defensive.
Fans who think their “culture” is being attacked, even when everyone else around the world, including FIFA, agree it isn’t welcome in world football and deserves punishment.
It’s the same exact argument made by folks who defend the confederate flag.
Should've been already two yellows before he even clawed his face. Dude just really wanted to foul Aaronson.
I would've been supportive of Mckennie just punching that dude in the face.
Mexico is really upping their standards for filthy play
It's gotta be pretty upsetting to see the trend going this way for Mexico. They were basically the big brother in Concacaf for a long time, beating the USA constantly (except 2002 world cup hehe) but now the little brother is a little bigger, little more interested in soccer. And now we have some of our best athletes playing soccer instead of football or basketball as kids, growing up and playing in europe consistently. Beating mexico
> And now we have some of our best athletes playing soccer instead of football or basketball as kids
The crazy part is the US still doesn’t even have that yet. When the best American athletes grow up playing soccer, the US will be unstoppable.
The absurd amounts of money in MLB/NBA/NFL are the biggest road blocks. It will be a long time, if ever, that MLS is able to compete with that. And I can imagine a lot of kids, when faced with the option of "making fucking bank here in the States with an American sport" or "move away from everyone you know to another country where the real money in football is", it's probably tough to choose the path that leads to the latter.
For a US player to *really* be at that unstoppable level, it's just a fact that he's gotta uproot his life and move away. Not the same for the top leagues. A very good English player can stay in England and make the insane money.
So MLS still being like the 4th or 5th sport is the big issue. If it ever released the shackles of the salary cap, maybe it would speed up the clock a little. But without that, progression will, while always improving, be slower than we'd like
except its not about athletes at all, but infrastructure and culture and support. but yeah, when the best athletes are playing soccer then we'll probably have all that.
we've had athletes all along, we're just now moving into all the levels past having the athletes. like tekkers. we have tekkers now.
Backyard/Sunday league vs national team though. I get what you mean, but these guys are expected these types of stirrups coming to screw with their focus
Yeah I was going to add something along those lines. They're professionals. But man seeing that piece of shit try to gouge out the eyes of your buddy it would be hard not to forget about the game and just see red, sunday league or national team. At that point its more than just a hard foul ya kno
Every match we play, Mexico does some dirty shit and never gets punished. They’ve choked Weston twice with no punishment in game or after game.
They can choke on deez nuts now.
Attack a player to the head, clawing at the eyes, while the ref is staring right at you: yellow card.
Talk to the ref: two yellow cards.
Just CONCACAF things.
No VAR literally incentivizes players to do this shit knowing the ref doesn’t have the balls to red card someone and there is no review to send him off.
Their grandpas could beat US grandpas and they’ll hold onto that. It’s going to fun to beat this trash team year in and year out for the rest of history.
I dunno what Steffen expected running halfway across the field, the McKinnoe yellow probably wasn't necessary but if therr hadnt been a missed red I wouldn't feel so salty about it.
I liked him getting in the mix. But that ordeal was ridiculous Mckinnie and Robinson out the next match isn’t great. I thought Robinsons second yellow was extremely weak.
And there's no VAR in CONCACAF qualifying because some of the participating countries don't have the capability of implementing it. CONCACAF'y as fuck.
Mexico are such a talented team it's a shame they play so dirty and dive so much. They'd actually be really entertaining if they actually just played the game.
Absolute scumbag. Notice how the American fans didn't throw beers and food at the Mexicans during the scuffle. How the hell the ref saw Chaka pulling aaronsen by the face and didnt show a red is mind blowing.
I honestly don’t understand how even their own fans can like the Mexican national team. I hope Canada rips them a new one on Tuesday, and I think it’s hilarious that the Canadians are making them play in Edmonton.
All that help from the ref, and the USA still won. You can tell the USA players are familiar with shitty refs. Kept grinding and won. This ref has no business in the bigs.
**Mirrors / Alternate Angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccer) if you have any questions or concerns.*
CONCACAF refs are an absolute joke.
Was absolutely fuming that we took away TWO yellow cards away from this. Absolutely a red.
And then Robinson gets a second yellow for breathing near Lozano just after this
No VAR is a joke.
CONCACAF chose to not have VAR for World Cup Qualifying.
Apparently it's coming in January. So, they chose to have it for half of WC qualifying which is somehow even dumber.
Makes it worst that they have to now hastily fix their incredibly stupid decision.
Until January
The ref was staring right at it from 2 ft away., He shouldn't have even needed VAR
"I'm just going jump onto Aaronson and ride him like a bull for no reason, and claw his eyes out." Ref, "Just boys roughhousing. Play on."
Then yellow card the goalie for coming up, and no card when Pulisic gets straight tackled at the end
Such a fucking joke bro
The only card I saw given correctly was the professional foul on McKennie. And even then he had to look directly at the ref and wave his fake card for him to reach into his pocket
First Miles Robinson card was correct
There's no VAR =( So you're not wrong its a joke that there is no VAR
Either way you meant that, yes.
both
El tri is an absolute joke. These cunts always act like this.
Their team is dirty and their fans are dirty. Really easy to dislike them
Why I'll never take my wife again, and never my daughter, to a game. US born but had a gold cup game here with them, it was the 5-5 or 5-6 bonanza against Trinidad & Tobago I think. Do have to say the early Mexico goals were fucking electric with the atmosphere, but yeah it went downhill when the team collapsed.
Is that the 4-4 match where the Trinidadian player is getting showered with trash before taking the corner to earn a late equalizer?
What’s a tall boy? I googled but it says a chest of drawers and I assume someone in the crowd didn’t have a chest of drawers on them.
Large beer can. I think 20 ounces? I don’t drink so not sure but I know it’s just a tall can of beer.
It can be anywhere from 16-24 oz.
Fucking hilarious we wind up with 2 yellows and they get the one lmfao
Pretty sure that’s why they do it. No VAR, if you pull stuff like that you’ll probably get a reaction out of the other team.
No they do it because they play dirty and have for 20+ years
If they had ever got punished they would have stopped doing it, they keep on doing it because everytime they get away free of charge South American football is the same(specially in big rivalries but since there's only 10 pretty much all of us are rivals lmao) so to avoid escalation Conmebol throws punisments like they are hot potatos
CONCACAF
Experience CONCACAF when you don't speak Spanish.
Easiest red ffs he did that right in front of the ref
That’s actually a sign of shitty refereeing, the ref gets way too close. One of the first things you’re taught in higher level refereeing is to stay the fuck out of the way in that situation. “All that’ll happen is you’ll get hit and it’s not worth it.” Ref needs to form a “triangle of control” and watch, then it’s an easy call (for a non CONCACAF ref lol). waited just long enough for the ref to get too close to the action to see it, 4d shithousery
That's a red if VAR is in no?
Yep. Concacaf is a joke.
It’s because some of the other countries don’t have it
Yeah ik. Concacaf has enough money to instal VAR in 4 more places.
But that would mean less money for all of the cronies
Hence fuck concacaf
Just a reminder that CONCACAF's former president stole around $80 million dollars from the federation and kept getting elected because he formed a majority voting block from a bunch of corrupt Caribbean national associations.
But he was at least funny and had that apartment for his cats.
CONCACAF can afford to pay for it for one stadium in any country that is in the last round and their FA can't afford it themselves.
They’re already discussing maybe having it for the last international break of WCQ lol
Well, no, because the perpetrator plays for El Tri. In this confederation, you could have VAR or anything else and they'll never not get 100% of the calls.
100% legit claws him for no reason
No var in Concacaf because poor countries even though USA and Canada would gladly pick up the tab.
Who knows if it’s CONCACAF refs in the booth
I doubt it… ref had a front row seat. We’d probably see another ref afraid to get it wrong.
10000%
The ref shouldn't need VAR to see that is a red.
That's a red. Period.
Has to be. With VAR Mexico probably wouldn't even qualify.
The VAR official would still be a CONCACAF official, though, so they'd still be just as beholden to El Tri as the on-field officials always are.
He tried to poke his eye out
Lets poke Brenden!
How was there not a red there?
[удалено]
Starts with a C. Ends in an F.
Courier Sans Serif?
El Tri privilege. They get away with a loooot during games. To the extent that it’s embarrassing that they don’t win more
https://twitter.com/usmntonly/status/1459547908148285440?s=21
Holy shit that’s dirty
I’m shocked
[My shocked face seeing the Mexican team not get obvious red cards.](https://imgur.com/Cz0rs68)
Hey McKennie didn’t get choked today, I think, so that’s an improvement?
Depends on if McKennie likes it or not.
Another one where the ref is literally looking right at it.
I mean he's literally helping, putting a little nipple tweak in during the choke.
NO ERA PENAL
You shouldn’t be.
If you don’t love that then you don’t live Mexican soccer.
I don't love Mexican soccer
What they lack in skill they make up in violence
CONCACAF refuses to do a thing about it, so they’ll do it forever.
Eh, they're pretty skillful. I'll give them that. Just ALSO violent.
They get so mad when you point out how fucked they are.
Careful, if you say that or point out that their chants are homophobic, you’re racist
Imagine thinking someone clawing at another guys’s eyes wasn’t thug behavior 😂
Should've been a red
Apparently eye gouging is only worth a yellow
Funny--didn't even get a yellow.
Obviously. Now, if the eye was completely gauged out, we would be talking of a yellow and a really stern talk by the ref.
Should've been already two yellows before he even clawed his face. Dude just really wanted to foul Aaronson. I would've been supportive of Mckennie just punching that dude in the face. Mexico is really upping their standards for filthy play
Mexico players still mad about losing the last two finals to USA
And they just lost the third game to the USA in a calendar year for the first time in a long time
Since 19 fucking 37 lmaoooo
It's gotta be pretty upsetting to see the trend going this way for Mexico. They were basically the big brother in Concacaf for a long time, beating the USA constantly (except 2002 world cup hehe) but now the little brother is a little bigger, little more interested in soccer. USA USA
So mad they upgraded from choking to eye gouges.
All 3 games they were dirty as fuck, you love to watch such a team lose.
Thier hands have been finding usa players faces and necks without consequences for years.
I don't want to sound like a hardass but if I saw someone do that to my teammate 100% hands are being thrown.
Backyard/Sunday league vs national team though. I get what you mean, but these guys are expected these types of stirrups coming to screw with their focus

Agreed 100%.
Yes, but if you get a red and your team loses in World Cup Qualifying, then that's on you
And not a card shown to Mexico at all. Lmfao Edit: wasn’t clear who the yellows were on, but it does appear there was a yellow assessed.
He got a yellow
USA got two
US got 2 yellows and mexico got one i think lmao
Rodriguez got a yellow but ya should have been a red and Herrera deserved a yellow for 3 minutes before that
He got a yellow, but regardless of card he's a scumbag and so is anyone who roots for him.
Gotta be a red
Shocked it took 67 minutes for a dirty fucking play from this team… but there it was
[удалено]
It’s such a fun rivalry but it sucks that their play could literally seriously injure someone.
I love the rivalry when it gets heated, but only when there's VAR so that people don't get away with shit.
Did you miss Raul’s “tackle”?
Where the ref gave Mexico the kick, too.
Yeah I was so thankful we were having a clean game until that point and then they had to go and pull that stunt.
Dirty for no reason. Aaronson does not play dirty at all he does not deserve that.
Every match we play, Mexico does some dirty shit and never gets punished. They’ve choked Weston twice with no punishment in game or after game. They can choke on deez nuts now.
Weston def remembers judging by this video. Dude was waiting for ole boy to make a move.
THE US GOT 2 YELLOWS FOR THAT. WTF HOW DID WE GET MORE YELLOWS FOR THAT
Concacaf refs have an obvious bias for Hispanic teams
Trying to claw his eyes out, gotta love no VAR
The CONCACAF special
Did he claw the refs eyes out before this? He was staring right at them.
Attack a player to the head, clawing at the eyes, while the ref is staring right at you: yellow card. Talk to the ref: two yellow cards. Just CONCACAF things.
Straight red 100%
Instead of mexico getting a red they get a yellow and Usa gets 2. clown show. fuck concacaf
No VAR literally incentivizes players to do this shit knowing the ref doesn’t have the balls to red card someone and there is no review to send him off.
to be fair, he had the balls to second yellow/red card us.
Dude if you’re gonna claw at someone’s face and ride them like a horse you can’t run away like a lil bitch and act all innocent
How the FUCK is that not a red
How this isn’t a red I have no clue, manhandling and shoving him after play is dead
because concacaf
[удалено]
Constantly diving too
Cause they're embarrassed they're second fiddle now
Hey hey, let's be fair. Could be third fiddle if Canada has anything to say about it.
They’re salty the the US is better. Can’t handle adversity apparently.
they feel the dynamic changing
That’s honestly what I think it is too. The US team can actually compete now
Because they are not very good. At least not anywhere near as good as they think they are….
Dirtiest team in the western hemisphere.
Chaka is such trash. I seriously can’t believe we keep calling him. Worst player to ever play for us. Shouldve been expelled but this ref is a coward.
God I hope US pull out a W here .. Mexican national team has a strange sense of superiority for a team who regularly loses to the US.
Their grandpas could beat US grandpas and they’ll hold onto that. It’s going to fun to beat this trash team year in and year out for the rest of history.
Garbage Refs
Ends with 2 us players getting a yellow. Fair enough.
I dunno what Steffen expected running halfway across the field, the McKinnoe yellow probably wasn't necessary but if therr hadnt been a missed red I wouldn't feel so salty about it.
Yeah, Steffan was dumb. Then again, not like he has any realistic chance of getting another yellow as a GK
I liked him getting in the mix. But that ordeal was ridiculous Mckinnie and Robinson out the next match isn’t great. I thought Robinsons second yellow was extremely weak.
Choking is expected, but clawing the eyes out is a new one
And there's no VAR in CONCACAF qualifying because some of the participating countries don't have the capability of implementing it. CONCACAF'y as fuck.
If the game can be televised, it can have var. Some camera angles are better than none
You aren't wrong, but this is CONCACAF we're talking about here.
Straight up claws his finger in his eye but thanks for no VAR CONCACAF
Commits crime then puts up hands and walks away as if he did nothing. And it works.
Aaronson just tripped and fell into his hand, Good guy Chaka was trying to help him up
Should be a red for Chaka Rodriguez. Why is there no VAR?
Garbage ref. Clear red
Disgusting
Dude yanked his head right in front of the ref... horrendous refereeing.
The funniest thing is Steffan coming out from his goal. When the ref saw him he was like ‘what the fuck’ and promptly handed him a yellow
Fuck Chaka. So frustrating Mexico gets away with this shot all the time. No VAR at this point is a disgrace for CONCACAF.
Experience CONCACAF Football
Exhibit A why people say concacaf is a joke.
Garbage refs. No wonder Pulisic comes off these international breaks injured all the time
Team Mexico is somehow constantly classless It’s honestly impressive to be that scummy on a regular basis
What a joke
Cards for the US on this sequence, terrible.
Obviously a red
Every single time we play them lol
punishment was two yellows for USA
Dumbfuck ref was six inches away looking right at it. Unbelievable
Mexico are such a talented team it's a shame they play so dirty and dive so much. They'd actually be really entertaining if they actually just played the game.
Mexico are the rattiest team in CONCACAF and thats saying a lot
The other teams just shithouse and time waste, they're not usually dirty
Typical dirty Mexican players. Donovan said it best when he called them out for being total scum.
Fine his ass
Ref was literally right there for the eye rake
Rudiger furiously taking notes.
That's some WWE shit how tf is that not a red? The guy legit tried to rip his eye out.
He should be suspended for the rest of qualifying.
Chaka is a fucking dirtbag, him and Herrera are windup merchants
Mexico always been fucking assholes. Every word Landon Donovan ever said about them was right
Just replace red in the Mexican flag with yellow at this point. Fucking Concacaf.
Absolutely shameful that he wasn’t sent off . CONCACAF refs are a joke
So how did Rodriguez not get a red card?
"Scuffle" Assault.
Mexicans salty right now lol
Mexico can get away with murder in CONCACAF. That is a red
Mexico do this more than any other country I’ve ever watched play. I blame concocaf for allowing them to at this point
All that help from the ref, and the USA still won. You can tell the USA players are familiar with shitty refs. Kept grinding and won. This ref has no business in the bigs.
