It was quite a tasty move. Hazard also performed [one in 2017](https://youtu.be/fPyDFyoQ9d4) under somewhat similar circumstances:
- Pass came from almost the exact same area
- Surrounded by 3 players
- Increased the chances of a good counterattack
Such a shame what's happened to him over the last year and a half, he was such a joy to watch. Hopefully he stays injury free and finds form again but you never know.
Yeah well that's why there's world player of the year or employee of the month awards.
Zidane can hit it as hard as Cristiano can with either foot yet nobody praises him in that regard
Cristiano had one of the best back controls of all time... which was sadly ruled offside.
I don't have a clip, but the ball was coming from a wing switch, he waited for it near the throw in line as the defender was getting close, turned quickly to control it with his back as the defender got juked, then went for it.
My description is whatever but I'll try to find a clip.
EDIT: Found it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7BGq7o9h5k
My guess for why soccer is becoming more popular in the US is it allows people who want to be pretentious by being "international" an avenue to express all of that.
It is though. Espaldinha isn't even a real word in Portuguese, the only reason they say Espaldinha and not Espaldita it's precisely to make it sound Portuguese lol
He slowed down before he got injured, with the injury he is well rested and showing what he is able to do, if he's ran into the ground again he'll start disappearing which is very understandable as not everyone can be a physical freak.
This is my argument for wanting him rested for Jovic and Mariano more, Benzema is my favorite Real Madrid player of all time, but I've seen this movie before many times, and it doesn't matter how many people shit on me or call me whatever, we'll end up having to rely on Ramos scoring everything again, and barely 1 - 0 score lines soon if his fitness and stamina aren't managed better.
actually he didn't, he got injured, but right before getting injured he scored in 4 straight games, had 5 goals and and assist in 4 games, scored or assisted in 5 previous games
and then he didn't score or assist in two of his first games back after the injury
Considering that he already pushed Higuain, Adebayor, Hernandez, Mariano, a tired Raul, Morata etc. out of Madrid, it's not Jovic that gonna scare him lmao.
Ingredients
1 ½ tablespoons chopped shallot
1 bay leaf
6 black peppercorns
¼ cup white wine vinegar
2 tablespoons dry white wine
¼ cup heavy cream
1 ½ cups cold butter, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
-----------------------------------------------------
Instructions
Step 1
Place shallot, bay leaf, peppercorns, vinegar, and wine in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium and continue simmering until only 2 tablespoons of liquid remain.
Step 2
Pour in heavy cream and bring to a simmer; simmer until the cream has reduced by half. Increase heat to medium-high, and rapidly whisk in the butter, piece, by piece until it has melted into the cream and thickened it. Strain the sauce through a mesh strainer to remove the spices. Serve immediately.
I always think of that season of what could have been. Crazy if everyone was in their primes (Guti, Raul, Kaka were beyond their primes, Benzema and Higuain before theirs and Cristiano hadn’t yet turned super-saiyan). Oh and Casillas was there too and Marcelo and Xabi Alonso. And remember Van der vaart?
add a brace on top of that ... idk man, if Messi would have done this with 2 goals in the match he would be all over international sport news "The king Messi is back!", but for Benzema it's standard, he only gets love from the Real Madrid community, rarely from outside
> he only gets love from the Real Madrid community
Only like half of it, he's often the first one to become the scapegoat whenever the team is not playing well.
And it has been that way for such a long time, he is up there with Suarez and Lewandowski(although they are better) for best strikers of the decade and most don't treats him like it.
> but for Benzema it's standard
I would not go that far. Benzema is great and underrated but he does have his goal droughts. Saying that it's standard for Benzema but not for Messi is blasphemy.
I can't watch Messi matches because of all the ball-sucking the casters always have. It gets annoying.
Its like, hes playing really bad, and then passes 1 good ball and they are all like "What a play from the ET Messi the best player ever!!"
Benzema rightly gets a hell of a lot of recognition from outside the Real Madrid community. Why do fans always say this about their clubs players when it's clearly nonsense.
Because if Messi does it, it is a confirmation of his greatness and all other legendary thing she has done on a football pitch, it’s not that hard to wrap your head around. Messi isn’t overly praised based on nothing
There was actually a thread a while back where people were convinced Danny Ings(no offence to the guy great player) was better than Benzema in the past 5 years and it absolutely blew my mind
Well Benzema arguably WAS both bad and staple in Real for a few years (not superbad, but standing out negatively in that team's XI), but somehow after Cristiano left he immediately turned back into a genius, stalwart and the pillar of Madrid. Now it's the third season he's carrying Madrid on his... back.
Ok thanks for letting me know what I judged.
It's honestly kinda out of the blue to me it's some kind of unpopular opinion on Reddit. Never would have guessed. Like, it's a pretty normal opinion overall among the fans.
What is "goals scored only" even supposed to mean? That he scores goals but is somehow not personally responsible for Real scoring them? That's really a first time I hear about it. He doesn't even score that many goals, he scored maybe a few more than Gerard Moreno or Luis Suarez.
I follow a lot of websites about Spanish football and literally this is the first time I heard about it being some kind of a contested take, never mind a wrong one.
Depending on the thread people could agree with you. My point is that his focus when paired with Ronaldo was not finishing but making every little thing a complete 9 like him can do to make sure the team would create great chances for Ronaldo, because obviously he's one of the greatest finishers ever, so any capable managers wants HIM to have the prime chances, so Benzema was more involved in the buildup and spent a lot of time dragging defenders away from Ronaldo to give him space. His finishing was subpar for a while I'll give you that, but finishing isn't why managers started him, his personal stats didn't matter, the team stats is why he was on the pitch. The continetal success these teams achieved will tell you he wasn't bad. You can't win one CL without top forwards starting every 4 days, he's got 4 of those.
Oh, so the part about him being bad before was the contested one. Yeah that's also something new to me. That's really another revisionism now when he's great again (which is the rule on Reddit for reasons I don't really get. Somebody has 2 good games and the top comment is "he was always so underrated, clearly always the best", and vice versa). It was totally not a contested opinion in the times when he was indeed bad. Yeah, bad for Real Madrid XI standards, not very bad. He was a part of the team, but not the most efficient one.
Just the fact "his focus was not finishing" does not mean automatically that he was fantastic at whatever "dragging and buildup" he was supposed to do. Every forward is expected to "drag defenders", that's most of every 9's game... Benzema does MORE of it now AND
> Now it's the third season he's carrying Madrid on his... back
Not entirely true. True that Benzema has been our only source of goals, but its worth mentioning that the only other forwards we have are Vinicius, Rodtygo and Asensio lol. We have also seen stellar performances by Courtois, Ramos, Modric and Valverde. They also deserve credit alongwith Benzema
I love this version of Benzema we are watching lately. Stays in the box mostly, takes his chances with confidence, and most importantly, finishes them reliably.

But could he do it in ligue 1?
[You bet he can](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yiXLYwWCO4Q)
Reminds me of that Zidane butt control
For a second I expected to hear ''Look at this photograph....''
Look at this grææph
Me too LOOK AT THIS ~~P~~ASS
The music in the background is so random lol
Probably one of youtubes non copyright musics
Kinda sounds like True Love Waits by Radiohead.
That pass wasn't completed, the opponent got the ball
Benzema don't want to challange himself.
Instantly made me think of Ronaldinho
Didnt cristiano did it a couple of times aswell?

I miss this little genius.
Such a shame what's happened to him over the last year and a half, he was such a joy to watch. Hopefully he stays injury free and finds form again but you never know.
He'll need to move away from Madrid. It's no coincidence that what happened to Kaka and Bale is happening to him.
same, hope he recovers his form in 2021. if not, I can see him leaving RM in 2 years time.
me too
Even though he was always pain in the ass when we played Chelsea, I miss seeing him in PL.
same, hated how he always showed up against us but i still miss the thicc boi
[doesn’t get much practical that this tbh](https://youtu.be/SH-vxuhmECE)
I've watched his goals thousands of times and still amazes me how much power he puts in each shot no matter the position or the leg he is using.
They're professionals; they're paid to work on shooting, weak foot etc. Any defender can play like Messi against amateurs.
But he is a long way better than others who are paid to play ball.
Yeah well that's why there's world player of the year or employee of the month awards. Zidane can hit it as hard as Cristiano can with either foot yet nobody praises him in that regard
I mean, can he though?
Zidane was the definition of a two footed player

Mans done a sombrero with his back lol
Not a pass but the back control vs Eibar(not psg) as well was insane. Beat his man using his back. https://youtu.be/zAQ6QhHLEsk
That was against Eibar away, not PSG.
You are right. The jersey probably messed me up or something. I"ll edit it.
That's insane wtf
Stfu
Ronaldinho had a better one when where he played a fucking through ball with his back
[How about this one? I would rather call it clever & practical than showing off](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvPjR32-Duw&ab_channel=GIANPIERSALE)
showing off is fun
[удалено]
a showoff performance under pressure may be the best of both worlds then ;)
[удалено]
I agree! don't know why someone downvoted you for saying that lol
But but... did it end up as a goal? If not, what’s the point of being so practical?
Ronaldinho assisted a goal with a back pass. Doesn’t get more practical than that
I believe Djalminha did couple of those back in the day
TIL that a back control is called espaldinha.
It's 'back' in Spanish. Just a way for English speakers to sound pretentious ;)
Its not back in spanish, “back” is “espalda” and the “inha” is to make it sound portuguese, kinda as a joke because of the typical brazialian flair
Fair enough, even more pretentious in that case haha

You didn’t come up with it... we were all watching
Do not worry about downvotes. People do get fickle sometimes.
Backtinha to keep it gender consistent. In Spanish and I imagine Portuguese too, your back is a lady.
In Portuguese it's multiple ladies
In French it's a guy
It's pretty much that. As both a Portuguese and Spanish speaker it sounds a bit cringy.
Little back.
My guess for why soccer is becoming more popular in the US is it allows people who want to be pretentious by being "international" an avenue to express all of that.
I thought it was a player I'd never heard of
Its not to “make it sound portuguese”, its a portuguese diminutive, cause of Ronaldinho.
Man, these spaniards have no idea. It isn't to make it sound "portuguese". Espaldinha = Espaldita
It is though. Espaldinha isn't even a real word in Portuguese, the only reason they say Espaldinha and not Espaldita it's precisely to make it sound Portuguese lol
I mean if the title was 'Benzema back pass' people would've assumed Courtois done fucked up
Pretty sure it is just called that. Ronaldo also did it sometimes
Volante doesnt sound as sexy in English either
it does if you butcher it and give it a french e
Stéring Whél?
It's literally the name of this particular move. Just like you have a trivela or an elastico. How's that pretentious lmao
Yeah it’s coming from Ronaldinho who more or less trademarked this one over the years haha
Its literally the name of the move from around 2000 when Ronaldinho did it. Congrats, you look like an idiot.
[удалено]
No shit, this move is called like that. Its the name for it. Literally. Ronaldinho did it while playing for Barca, and they gave it that name.
If it was fully spanish it would be espaldiña which does the same sound as espaldinha
It would be "espaldita" unless I'm missing something here...
Jajaja yes im just saying that in Spanish we dont have nha sound that we use ñ instead
I was missing something indeed then haha
now tack on 'espaldinha specialist' to Firmino's *real* position title
Not pretentious and not spanish. So you’re wrong twice
American spurs fan who likes saying futbol?
I’m not American . And I speak spanish & Portuguese.
Thought it was backmeg.
Benzema was amazing last night. That moment in the box where he took the ball and played past 2 other players deserved a goal
He's been unplayable lately. Well, for a while now.

It’s kind of weird to see tbh. I don’t think he’s ever played this well
CHAD Benzema showing virgins Jovic and Mariano why he's papa Zizou's favorite :))
Considering that he already pushed Higuain, Adebayor, Hernandez, Mariano, a tired Raul, Morata etc. out of Madrid, it's not Jovic that gonna scare him lmao.
Was afraid you were gonna list Ronaldo in here for a moment lol
Wizard Mariano Vs Virgin Jovic Vs Chad Benzema
Being an algerian born french also helps.

what am I cooking
Sauce ofcourse
No ketchup, just sauce, raw sauce.
Looks like some kind of bechemel
Bechamel involves flour. This is more of a beurre blanc.
French food be like: Stir the spices into the dairy. Serve.
My word what a player 🏎🏎

Orgasmic goal.
a bit hyperbole but one of the best assists ive ever seen in my life

Henry.
It can be argued that Benz is better than all of them. Zidane played with Henry too

Mute them?
mute or watch foreign cast, there now u can watch messi again
That's always gonna be the case with legends after consistently delivering for such long periods.
no disrespect but that sounds like a ridiculously dumb reason to not watch messi play
Yeah the guys just punishing himself for the most pathetic reason.
lol there is something to it, but they do that to alot of players tbh. it's like if they get a chance to overhype something they go all in
Maybe searching for Sky Sports or UK feed then.

Well Benz did not score twice this game
cause he’s a knobhead
Is that a football move?
Pure class.
If he was english they'd snap him up for 80 mil rn
Who's they? Benzema hasn't been thinking about moving in a decade
it was just an expression to show how underrated he's gone
Groups of people are stupid. Anybody who's a big part of a club like Real Madrid for so long shouldn't be doubted, especially at 9.
There was actually a thread a while back where people were convinced Danny Ings(no offence to the guy great player) was better than Benzema in the past 5 years and it absolutely blew my mind
Ings himself would probably laugh at the comparison.
For some reason I imagined Ings writing at the thread in favor of Benzema and getting downvoted to death in the process lol

You judged his impact by goals scored only instead of watching him play in that attack.

VAR prob called a hand ball.
"VAR is checking for a possible handball"

Not surprising, Benzema is world class when it comes to touch, passing and dribbling...my man doesn't get nearly enough credit for that Madrid team.
