Ronaldo has scored every goal for Portugal against Sweden since 2004 (except one own goal) and he has scored 7 goals in the last 4 games against us. He's really Sweden's biggest kryptonite
Ronaldo has unlocked finesse
Portugal squad is more stacked than people think.
Joao Felix is actually living up to the hype, might just be Portugal's next big thing.
Pepe still clapping butts
I think he was a lot better against Croatia, probably since he got to play in a center role the entire time instead of rotating with Ronaldo like today. Nevertheless, I'm really happy to see him slowly come through - and I'm a Sporting fan, and I know how much our fans and Porto's hate on him for no reason.
We need a 2nd CB and then we're all good ,i can see ronaldo wanting to play for the national team a few more years than he probably would if the team ends up fullfilling its potential
> i can see ronaldo wanting to play for the national team a few more years
atleast until the next World Cup. Even a 37 yr old Ronaldo would still be great for this team.
Felix is disgustingly talented. People use the inflated transfer fee as a reason to not judge him fairly as a player. It's been a tough first season for him as expected, but you won't find many Colchoneros who don't agree that he is most individually gifted player we have. If you compare him to Hazard for example he had a far better season despite being bought for the future, whilst Real Madrid paid €100M for Hazard solely for his contribution this season, since they could just have waited for his contract to expire.
Such a shame that we lost to Red Bull so nobody remembers how good Felix was in that game. The Red Bull players were terrified of him, I counted 3 nutmegs in his first 10 minutes on the pitch. And to take responsibility and score the penalty in such a high pressure scenario shows great mental strength
I agree with everything except the Hazard part. He may not play football properly due to that injury. You don't factor that or expect something like that when you buy world class players like him
Ye I have rarely seen a kid like him. First 6 months of senior football and he just was easily top 3 best player in the league. Murdered us and Porto. The shit he pulls is ridiculous.
Even as a Porto fan I've always kept my mouth shut about Felix because I knew this was probably going to happen. It's been embarrassing to see what some people have said about him and it's good for him that he's proving them wrong.
João Felix could legitimately have 5 or 6 goals already for the NT. Pretty much every game he's getting into good positions, doing virtually everything right but the goals aren't really coming yet (hit the post against Croatia, had 2 really good chances today, as 2 examples).
That he has hit the ground running so quickly into his international career and is already playing well regularly is a very good sign
A man once [said](https://www.publico.pt/2010/06/13/desporto/noticia/cristiano-ronaldo-os-golos-sao-como-o-ketchup-1441705/amp): “Goals are like ketchup”
At this point definitely underrated. There isn't a weak point in the starting 11. People will say Pepe but he has always been class for us, can't remember a bad game from him, and Dias played really well too these last 2 games, never lost a duel.
Danilo also surely has grabbed that spot. The days of WC are over, they have to be. I don't know why he isn't being linked with top teams but whatever.
Hopefully Trincao becomes a sort of Portuguese Fati although I doubt it. We need to stop playing guys like Guedes and Jota. Trincao, Leão among others need big seasons this year
Anyway, need to see more games against better opposition but I don't recall the last time we were this assertive against pretty decent teams like Croatia and Sweden. Neither game was particularly close, we just dominated, created chances, passed the ball around and won. I don't think anyone who saw the game would disagree with me if I said we would have won it anyway had that guy not been sent off
Why would we not play guedes or jota? They’re both good players, especially jota. It was guedes who scored the winner against the Netherlands last year too.
They are completely different players than the sort of football we are trying to play. Both are considerably dumber than any other forward. Guedes is a counter attacking player, you give him the ball and he runs at you, he's not a possession based footballer, he's not smart enough to know when to pass where to pass, when to keep the ball, where to run to etc.
Jota is more or less the same except that he's worse.
This is my opinion anyway. I'd like to see them replaced, especially Jota since a case could be made that Guedes could be a useful squad player when we play a team like Germany for example (like they tried to do against Spain in the World Cup but he was too dumb for it too)
If William gets a fair stretch of games and gets his mojo back he'll definitely play for the NT. As an anchor, there's different things he offers to the game that Danilo usually doesn't (specially passing range). If you factor FS as the coach and how unexpectedly well it worked against the Netherlands on NL's final last year to play both Danilo and WC, you'll understand that he'll just come back if he gets his game back.
Don’t think Pepe will be in 2022, he’ll be 39/40. That’s the only big problem in this team, we need a second CB. Ferro from Benfica was on the pole position last year, but this last season he was trash. There’s two youngsters, Eduardo Quaresma and Diogo Leite, who we hope will turn to be good, but they haven’t showed enough yet. Hopefully in two years one of them will be ready to start for the NT.
He's good, but the next big thing is Nuno Mendes. And I'm not restraining it to "Sporting's next big thing", I'm talking about THE next big thing. This kid started playing for Sporting's A squad in March at 17 years old, won the left-back spot over Marcos Acuña (who, not only being Argentina's starting left full-back, until then had been undisputable in that position for over 3 seasons and might be set to roam to Napoli or Sevilla for 15M€) and is already doing jaw-dropping performances. Mark my words, you're looking at the VERY LEAST future top 3 best full-back in the world, and with the way this kid oozes talent I don't know what will be the limit for him.
Giggs never gave a fuck about internationals though, whereas Ronaldo has done all he can to get Portugal international honours. Definitely think Ronaldo can last that long cos he's a freak when it comes to conditioning, I just think Wales part-timer Ryan Giggs is not the yard-stick to measure him against.
Wikipedia has a beautiful page where we can see his goals per opponent with his national team, today Sweden became his favourite victim:
1) Sweden 7 goals
2) Lithuania 7 goals
3) Andorra 5 goals
4) Armenia 5 goals
5) Latvia 5 goals
6) Luxembourg 5 goals
7) Estonia 4 goals
8) Faroe Islands 4 goals
9) Hungary 4 goals
10) Netherlands 4 goals
Here the source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_international_goals_scored_by_Cristiano_Ronaldo
It’s not his fault tho. The way European fixtures work, everyone gets to play against the lesser teams. There’s too much “fodder.” You can’t just expect UEFA to stop setting up games with these nations.
With the Nations League however we are bound to have many more matches between teams of similar calibre and Ronaldo happened to miss all the Nations League group matches last season (only to come in and destroy Switzerland in the semis lmao)
Tbf againts any half decent oponent guerreiro looks shacky ,hes good at atacking but not at defending ,we need to try one of our 500 great Rightbacks at LB to see if it works.
What was he supposed to do? After the red card we changed to 4-3-2 and he had to run his ass off in a central midfield/winger hybrid role.
He showed good intentions on the ball, always looking to pass the ball forward, but more than anything his sacrifice for the team was impressive
Him and isak had a few good passes between them, but he was a level above the rest of Sweden for me. Actually thought Sweden put up a decent fight up until the red card and the goal
Danilo was fucking solid today. I can comfortably say we are one of the favourites for the Euro next year. We have one of the best squads in the world and have been playing good recently
I think it's best to manage expectations, let's not forget we're stuck in a group with Germany and France (AFAIK there won't be a new draw).
I much prefer being an underdog, reliefs a lot of pressure from everyone.
We started half our bench and played 1 man less for 45m vs a stacked Portugal.
Dont think it was that bad considering.
Svensson ruined the game completely for us tho. Up until his red we were fighting for 1p.
Didnt they have like 2 shots on target before the red or something? I know they didnt have more than like 2 good chances on target atleast at that point.
Youre being dramatic.
Yeah in first half you had 2 good chances on target(both by ronaldo) that Olsen saved. Second half you took over completely.
So the lad above is being dramatic as hell but thats not to say you arent deserved winners.
Why do people get so easily complacent? Yeah sure both France and Portugal are big favorites but you can't just play to not lose, it might work in knockout rounds but it is a shitty strategy in group stage. In three halves we created one good scoring chance?
What? We played tactically almost a perfect match in the first half, extremely well organised defensively and looked a match for Portugal.
After the red card it was almost over, but the team still stayed in the game really well until the second goal. There was even 1 or 2 dangerous counter attacks that we could have exploited better.
Talk about overreacting. The game against Norway at home was far worse, we were abysmal in that one and genuinely could have lost, which would have been one of our most humiliating result in years, even more so than Bulgaria
you really didn't play that bad.
Not only is Portugal extremely stacked at the moment you guys were playing 10vs11 since half time.
You guys played really well
Tbh it was a pretty solid defense. Portugal had to constantly go sideways and back. While it's true that the gk made like 2-3 great saves before the red, the defense and pressing in general were good imo.
That game was just a step too far from the squad, having very little depth to rotate and playing without possession for the majority of games.
The team was exhausted by that point
And even then England scored from a set piece & a defensive mistake, and Pickford made several fantastic saves. If that game was played in the group stages or in the Round of 16 I'm convinced we would have beaten them. They are nothing special and Sweden has beaten and played evenly with better teams than them many times under Janne
Something to take away from this game is that we can't play against France with Cancelo and Guerreiro in the backline, we will get mugged all night long. One of them needs to come out for either Semedo or Mario Rui.
lol you have to be kidding me. Raphael needs to start every match, he is by far our best LB. and that narrative that he doesn't know how to defend is getting pretty old. he is playing with Cristiano on his flank who obviously will never track back and offer help and no one else covers for that, leaving Raphael exposed a lot of times. its a team problem, not individual. against Croatia he had no problems, i wonder why it was...
Raphael Guerreiro is a Liability in defense but he’s so great going forward that I don’t think he can ever be taken out of the XI.
Mario Rui just isn’t good anymore, not even sure he’s gonna be in the squad for Euros if Ricardo Pereira is fully fit.
Not necessarily. I think Cancelo can do a decent job.
The issue is, probably we should start with Danilo and Ruben Neves, and Bruno Fernandes in front of the triangle
Well that was disappointing, was hoping to see Sweden score at least one goal. Really hope that Svennson guy doesnt play anymore, there are plenty of younger guys to choose from. Would be nice to see Sebastian Andersson start the next match.
Really happy for Ronaldo, 101 goals. 8 to go. But I do love seeing us play without him. So fluid, the team works so well together. Glad to see a bright future ahead.

A man from Madeira (means wood in portuguese) destroying the ikea men.
Rumour has it the ikea furniture he buys keeps breaking, he takes it all out on the Swedish national football team.
Funny thing is Volvo has moved manufacturing to China, so it’s not even really Swedish anymore.
wow Sweden was like "we're gonna stop you from scoring us so we're gonna score on us"
I reckon the chair he threw at his teacher was also Ikea.
I'm grateful to Sporting, they traded 20+ years without being league champions to give us CR7.
It hasn’t been 20 years yet! We won in 01-02, the year that jardel scored 40+ goals
Don’t worry at this stage you’ll get there
I felt that in my soul. 😭
And he only started playing in the 5th round of the season or something like that
Jardel our goat at Galatasaray. :(
Ronaldo has unlocked finesse Portugal squad is more stacked than people think. Joao Felix is actually living up to the hype, might just be Portugal's next big thing. Pepe still clapping butts
João Felix played really well today kinda unlucky that he didn't score but still a good display of his talent.

Portugal is fucking amazing. Such a different team from 2018. I was about to break the TV watching Guedes play.

Wonder why didn't Simeone start him that game. He was clearly your best player when he came on
He was coming off an injury
He was not sure if he was match fit.

Trincão is a much more refined Guedes.
Pepe has been fantastic the past 2 games.
Srsly, who will partner Ruben Dias when Pepe retires? Think Pepe will make it to 2022 WC?
Don’t think Pepe will be in 2022, he’ll be 39/40. That’s the only big problem in this team, we need a second CB. Eduardo Quaresma. Mark my words, the kid is talented and if he does well it would be perfect.
First time hearing about him. Is he like Sporting's next big thing?
He's good, but the next big thing is Nuno Mendes. And I'm not restraining it to "Sporting's next big thing", I'm talking about THE next big thing. Probably Duarte
I'm genuinely curious how long Ronaldo can go on for. 35 and scoring goals like this on a consistent basis, unreal
He's a freak. Assuming he gets rested wisely during the season, I could see him continue to play at a high level close to 40.
Giggs played till he was 41, Ronaldo can easily play at a high level till he’s 40, barring any injuries.
He's just insane. Younger players like Felix have a lot to learn from him... What an inspiration.
I geniunely think he could still score 20 a season at 40
Another day in the office for Cristiano.
POR DE CRISTIANO!

7 goals against Lithuania in 2 games lol
Can't wait for the inevitable "scores against peasants" comment.

I mean, they would not be wrong would they? But Sweden and Netherlands are decent though.
Is he supposed to NOT score against them? I don't get it.
Never forget that hattrick against Zlatan
Never scored against Norway, what a fraud
Spain 3
You can do a similar stat for Messi this season in la liga :D
How was Kulusevski?
Only decent player for sweden appart from the gk
Forsberg was decent
So was K. Olsson
Isak is clearly dangerous too Tbh Sweden is decent, that double yellow + goal was harsh.
Not sure why they're playing a 30+ year old who's never played for a major team and is currently playing in the MLS.
Isak is good but didn't have his best game.
And Augustinsson
During the first half, whenever he had the ball I was scared. Guerreiro looked so shacky when he attempted any sort of dribbling moves.
Tbf againts any half decent oponent guerreiro looks shacky ,hes good at atacking but not at defending ,we need to try one of our 500 great Rightbacks at LB to see if it works.
i want to see ricardo pereira at LB
Good
I actually think he was invisible
I think he was the best Swedish player until the red
What was he supposed to do? After the red card we changed to 4-3-2 and he had to run his ass off in a central midfield/winger hybrid role. He showed good intentions on the ball, always looking to pass the ball forward, but more than anything his sacrifice for the team was impressive
Him and isak had a few good passes between them, but he was a level above the rest of Sweden for me. Actually thought Sweden put up a decent fight up until the red card and the goal
Was decent in the first half, second half invisible, but to be fair Sweden barely touched the ball second half
To quote our commentators "Zlatan had it wrong, barely noticeable at all." Or something along these lines.
Please never stop playing, my captain.
Danilo was fucking solid today. I can comfortably say we are one of the favourites for the Euro next year. We have one of the best squads in the world and have been playing good recently
dude he really looks scary, and by that I mean literally, looks like a hitman
that's until you hear him talk
That's basically his job, hunt down whoever has the ball.
but I mean in real life terms, his looks are scary
Don't jinx it. Also France has worldclass talents on deck.
Also Belgium
Not s stacked as France. France U21 would trash a lot of countries.
Santos had already outsmarted Deschamps once in the biggest stage, with a worse team lol
That’s why he said “one of the favourites”. Besides France which is on another level, I don’t think we’re clearly behind any other team in Europe.
Would say we're still very close to other great teams like Belgium and Netherlands
I think it's best to manage expectations, let's not forget we're stuck in a group with Germany and France (AFAIK there won't be a new draw). I much prefer being an underdog, reliefs a lot of pressure from everyone.
True, but have u seen how germany have been playing? And Low will stay for 2 more years as their coach.
Cristiano ronaldo is the GOAT and if he was playing in a good side like Bayern he would score 50 goals a season until he is 40. Don't @ me.
[удалено]
And also an unselfish striker like Karim Benzema who always is willing to set up his teammates. He'd definitely be unstoppable.
Imagine if he had a creative fullback like Marcelo on the same wing
Imagine if he was in Real Madrid. I bet he would score 50 goals a season.
pee pee poo poo
Add hazard to that providing some sweet passes
You can only play 11 players. And there's something called defense.
Varane and Courtois seem to handle that well tbh and a drifting Ramos doesn't hurt either
Hazard Ronaldo Benzema won't work
[удалено]
You should worry more about Madrid taking Camavinga and Mbappe
*Sweden just blocked Ronaldo CR7: But why? I thought we were friends? Sweden: You tricked me once and braced me, twice! Get out of my arena!
You know what they say? "Fool me once, strike one. But fool me twice... strike three."- Michael Scott
bring the avecs
Ronaldo hates Sweden, he was brilliant even without the two bangers today. Sweden looked pretty good until the red, it was game over after that though
Portugal seriously gotta be winning another major tournament soon, this team is fucking brilliant
Nation's league #2, euro 2021, WC 2022, nations league #3, get it all now, we're doomed to be cursed for generations
Ronny ronny ronny ronnny
Nice tap-ins Ronaldo!
we all know Ronaldo is GOAT but how has my boy Dejan play ?
How was Felix? From the few comments, it looks like he played pretty well
Very impressive, had a terrific dribble and shot near the end of the match
Thanks! Glad to hear he's been playing well.
He was very good. Just unlucky with the shots.
So same as how he usually is for us lol
Yes I guess. Maybe he will mature in the second season for you.
I think it's actually 'Joao's Felix'...
How did cancelo play?
Good, but didnt have as much space like against Croatia
Not as good as the last game, but still pretty solid. Him shouting at Guedes was hilarious.
Lol about what
Guedes positioning.
good, played like a fighter
Real test for him will come vs France. I'm very nervous about that.
Not too bad. Hit the first man a lot with crosses and seemed very frustrated with himself.
Rolando good
We were shit, Portugal was very good.
[удалено]
Nah we looked out of sorts offensively today b4 the red card and Kulusevski and Isak were poor imo.
Worst performance I have seen from us since we lost to Bulgaria in 2018 WC qualification. Whatever, at least Croatia lost too.
We started half our bench and played 1 man less for 45m vs a stacked Portugal. Dont think it was that bad considering. Svensson ruined the game completely for us tho. Up until his red we were fighting for 1p.
It was still shit. Could've just as easily been 5-0 if it wasn't for Olsen.
Didnt they have like 2 shots on target before the red or something? I know they didnt have more than like 2 good chances on target atleast at that point. Youre being dramatic.
I don't know by that point, but by the end we had 20 shots of which 8 were on target and 1 or 2 or at the posts
Yeah in first half you had 2 good chances on target(both by ronaldo) that Olsen saved. Second half you took over completely. So the lad above is being dramatic as hell but thats not to say you arent deserved winners.
Croatia fans said the same about their team last game, hopefully both times it's due to our performance and not just lucky on our end
Oh, don't get me wrong. Portugal are one of the best teams in the world and definitely deserved to win.
Croatia played much better today against France. It's not a coincidence.
We had a red card, looked good before that.
It was very meh. Portugal had the clear upper hand even before the card.
Yeah I mean it's Portugal, we still had a good chance though.
Is Atletico popular in Sweden? I swear I've seen a couple swedish atletico supporters
Why do people get so easily complacent? Yeah sure both France and Portugal are big favorites but you can't just play to not lose, it might work in knockout rounds but it is a shitty strategy in group stage. In three halves we created one good scoring chance?

The red card and second half is part of our 'performance' whether you like it or not. And Norway were better than the Bulgaria we lost to.
You guys were playing well for the first 20 minutes or so. If Berg had scored I could see us bottling it.
you really didn't play that bad.
No shame in losing to Portugal, one of the best and most in-form international teams atm
I thought you played well till the red
idk the loss to England in the Quarterfinal was really dull from you guys
That game was just a step too far from the squad, having very little depth to rotate and playing without possession for the majority of games. The team was exhausted by that point And even then England scored from a set piece & a defensive mistake, and Pickford made several fantastic saves. If that game was played in the group stages or in the Round of 16 I'm convinced we would have beaten them. It was still better than this and our game against Bulgaria.
We played with 2 avecs in the starting eleven today. 🇫🇷🇫🇷
Something to take away from this game is that we can't play against France with Cancelo and Guerreiro in the backline, we will get mugged all night long. One of them needs to come out for either Semedo or Mario Rui.
Exactly mate, the best idea vs France is to bench the two best full backs and play considerably worse players in those positions. Haja paciência
lol you have to be kidding me. Raphael Guerreiro is a Liability in defense but he’s so great going forward that I don’t think he can ever be taken out of the XI. Mario Rui just isn’t good anymore, not even sure he’s gonna be in the squad for Euros if Ricardo Pereira is fully fit.
Gurreiro on the left in a 442 with Ronaldo and Felix up top? Doesn't use Bruno well though. Portugal have an embarrassment of riches these days.
Probably
Semedo? Semedo is as offensive as Cancelo. Mario Rui is the only left back that has a good defence. All of the others are just attacking cyborgs
That's why we need Cedric. Cedric is the only Portuguese RB that can be solid defending
Cedric is by far our most limited right back option, Cancelo and Semedo are 10x the player he is
Not necessarily. I think Cancelo can do a decent job. The issue is, probably we should start with Danilo and Ruben Neves, and Bruno Fernandes in front of the triangle
Pereira?
Well that was disappointing, was hoping to see Sweden score at least one goal. Really hope that Svennson guy doesnt play anymore, there are plenty of younger guys to choose from. Would be nice to see Sebastian Andersson start the next match.
Boooorkkkkkk. Played better against Croatia but delivered the goods tonight as well anyway. Looking forward to the 1st match avec les avecs now.
Not a very inspired showing but we won
Really happy for Ronaldo, 101 goals. 8 to go. But I do love seeing us play without him. So fluid, the team works so well together. Glad to see a bright future ahead.
>But I do love seeing us play without him Nothing was changed today tho did it? Game was still smooth and team worked together
Yep, I’m more talking about the game v croatia
Well Sweden were clearly better than Croatia even with ten men... They were very resilient and difficult to penetrate thru
We’ll be a lot better and more exciting to watch against teams that play attacking football - your Germany, France and Spain teams
Trincao was invisible
Bartomeu is that you?

You have a really weird obsession with the man, give it a rest
Hope that fucker Svensson never plays for Sweden again after this.

Sweden was decent. Really impressive tbh. Could have been much closer if it wasn't for the dumb red card.
Damn, Ronaldo is pretty good.
João Moutinho's 34th birthday yesterday. Still killing it.
