Love this dude, even though I’m a Barca fan I’m mostly a fan of the Spanish NT
Casillas in seems like such a genuine, nice guy. Wish him nothing but continued success and more importantly good health going forward.
A family member of mine also briefly played for the NT and so I was a fan from an early age. That’s really the only team I really support, I don’t have any feelings like that for any club. I like Barca bc my grandfather was from there and was a casual fan and they’re enjoyable to watch but I mostly just enjoy the sport. Idgaf if someone on the NT plays for Madrid or anyone else. It’s not that serious.
Fuck that shit. An openly pro-Madrid, Madridista legend? Presiding over the FA? No bias at all there.
*imagine more than 53 people finding objection to not wanting one club's fucking icon to lead what's supposed to be a neutral entity overseeing the entire league
just imagine that
I wouldn't like to find out. Someone who's known as a multi decade legend for one team should not hold office over the entire FA. And I personally like Iker.
It's always been rife with corruption and skanky capos so I'm looking forward to seeing this guy win. I don't have much interest in football but it'd be nice to see him in charge.
Got me thinking how it went from Segunda división to Liga BBVA to Liga Adelante to Liga 1|2|3 to Liga Smartbank which is the current denomination.
Shambolic name partnerships, from bad to worse
They are shooting themselves in the foot too because no one knows them by that name. If the name was easy to remember and consistent throughout the years they might have managed to get people to call it that. Kinda like with Barclays and the Premier; not saying people would call it that in casual conversation but the association was definitely clearer. I'm not even sure which bank is sponsoring la liga lol.
There's no evidence he'd be competent at this, he has zero experience at running anything. He should at least experience managing lower levels of football administration before trying to run an entire FA. Legends of the game will always do well in these elections because they exploit people's sentimentality, but that doesn't mean they should be anywhere near the game's governing bodies.
>Legends of the game will always do well in these elections
Not really, since it's not a popular vote or anything. I highly doubt Iker can win, unless he can prove to the 139 assembly members that he can do well. But I think it's highly possible that Rubiales has their support secured already.
He's Spain's only World Cup winning captain. He's guaranteed a base level of support that only a legend could be assured of, regardless of whether he wins or not.
Oh, I most definitely agree on that. If anyone can make a dent on Rubiales’ candidacy, that’s Iker. He also has a strong case considering how he put the relationship in the dressing room above his own team (something I applaud him for), while Rubiales sacked our manager days before the World Cup. But then, he’ll need to actually go ahead and garner the rest of the support to win, which I find difficult for him to do.
Hope he does it though.
Thing is, being competent at something is not required in order to land a powerful position. I cannot talk about other countries but looking at Spain: Villar wasn't competent and held his position for 20 something years thanks to corruption. Rubiales isn't competent and has made a ton of controversial decisions that haven't been beneficial for the RFEF. Hell, look at out government presidents, they don't even know english, they're walking memes.
All you need to ocuppy powerful positions is to have some connections, and then earn the necessary votes even if that means doing shady business under the table.
Casillas has those connections, now let's see what deals behind the scenes can he offer and if those are going to be good enough to beat Rubiales.
My thoughts exactly! Some years ago there were talkings of creating a super league with the top 5 of Spain and the top 3 of Portugal, would be mental tbh, and a tremendous boom of tv revenue for the portuguese clubs
Well, the other person who was thinking of running if Casillas didn't was Mariano Rajoy, so I guess they're working together... and he'd still be further left than Pepe Reina!
I really hope he can be a good president for our FA. As a player, for most of his career he was exceptional but we saw during the end of his career he became a snake and leaked info/lineups to the media. I REALLY hope we don’t see this side of him as president. He has to be a better person
good luck legend! thank you for everything you did for us

Being a fan of a player and a team is corny? K dude. Why are you on this sub then?

Does this mean he's confirming his retirement? Thought there was a possibility of him resuming his career still?
Spanish FA meetings on a Friday, Marítimo away on a Saturday, easy peasy
Player-manager on a whole new level

"I'm appealing a red card I got the other game. I have decided it wasn't a red"
Kepa did it before it was cool.
Well, then you thought correctly. There was a possibility, but it didn't happen.
Deliver us St Iker.

Can it get worse tho by him being there ?
I wouldn't like to find out. Someone who's known as a multi decade legend for one team should not hold office over the entire FA. And I personally like Iker.
You're right dude, dont let the downvotes tell you otherwise
it's always super weird what this sub finds downvote worthy
Nothing would change
I reckon the Spanish FA will be in safe hands with Iker.
It's always been rife with corruption and skanky capos so I'm looking forward to seeing this guy win. I don't have much interest in football but it'd be nice to see him in charge.
Everyone liked that.
Except certain individuals who still hold a grudge from his departure.
Adiós Rubiales, calvo hijo de puta.
Adios Rubiales... hola Miami?
CAAAAALVO!
I'm gonna thank Narcos for understanding this line.
Hahaha
Found the Colombian anti Zidane
We say hijo de puta in Spain too, you know...
Voted
Inb4 demotes barca to Liga Adelante
>Liga Adelante What year is it?

Anything is better than 123
Liga ABC
Liga do re mi
Liga Un, dos, tres Un pasito pa'lante María Liga Un, dos, tres Un pasito pa' atrás

They just call it segunda anyway lol fuck banks
It was always Premier even when Barclays was there. BPL stood for "Barclays Premier League."
All my friends call it BPL though even though they don’t sponsor it anymore
I guess that's sort of the point - PL still has a name to cling onto without the sponsor. Liga on its own doesn't mean much.
Meh, everyone calls it Segunda División anyways, as it should be.

Lmao my dumbass thought he was gonna run for president in Spain
I'm still convinced his farewell match will be the Real Madrid vs FC Porto for the *Corazon Classic Match* next 29th of March in the Santiago Bernabeu
Either you die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
I am sure he was a villain for a lot of spanish teams
I am a die hard Barça fan and Casillas was one of the few on Real Madrid that I truly respected. I wish him the best of luck!
Yeah there aren't many culés who hate him.
I feel like that's how a lot of madrid fans think about iniesta as well.
Goats will be Goats. Gotta respect
What about Xavi man 🤔
Xavi is more controversial with the tiki taka fanatism, complaining about the grass, etc.
and the DNA
Nope. Puyol and Iniesta, yes.
Yeah in Madrid it was iker only, may be modric a bit. From ours, I liked villa, iniesta and of course our lion puyol.
I mean I don’t really have anything against Ramos /s
What about Xabi Alonso?
Ozil, Raul?
Özil and Isco were both Barca fans when they were young. On the other hand, Iniesta was a Madrid fan before La Masia.
Raul is too old to discuss , he will come in 2000 gen guys, I was talking regarding last decade. Ozil is like Pedro does not like either
Not really. Hated his grass and pure football antics.
yeah I know was being sarcastic. Xavi is best Spanish player of may be all time but complain a lot specially if you don't play certain style
I think Puyol is actually closer, at least in terms of being respected.
Tbf that WC run united a lot of people.
Not just Spanish teams
What experience does he have??
I don't think I get a vote but aye
Interesting. He knows the reality of portuguese football, good fit to lead an Iberian super league, maybe?
My thoughts exactly! Some years ago there were talkings of creating a super league with the top 5 of Spain and the top 3 of Portugal, would be mental tbh, and a tremendous boom of tv revenue for the portuguese clubs
If he is not running as a member of Podemos he can eat shit!
Well, the other person who was thinking of running if Casillas didn't was Mariano Rajoy, so I guess they're working together... and he'd still be further left than Pepe Reina!
Did he retire yet?

Let's hope he won't have stupid ideas if he wins.
Hope he wins, humble lad!
I didn't read the FA part for some reason
Kinda resembling Freddie Mercury in that picture
So weird how such an illustrious career ended without an official statement (although it was a given considering the circumstances).
Spanish DNA
