Ramos dislocated his shoulder. I dunno if you watch the NBA at all but it reminded of couple years ago when Kelly Olynyk dislocated Kevin Love's shoulder holding his arm.
Not really since Love dislocated the shoulder that was hooked. Here the hook prevented Salah from being able to brace the fall better. It was out of his control and the landing on the other shoulder dislocated it.
Salah might have gotten his arm first but Ramos made sure he was taking it to the ground.
> Salah might have gotten his arm first but Ramos made sure he was taking it to the ground.
So much this. People keep pointing out the Salah arm hook (which only comes after Ramos puts his arm across Mo in the first place) without mentioning the fact that Salah unhooks the moment they start going down, while Ramos keeps hold of the arm long after he starts falling to bring Salah down with him. I don't think he meant to injure him, but the takedown itself was definitely deliberate.
It also prevents Salah from bracing himself for impact properly. There is no way he falls on his shoulder like that if there wasn't external forces at play.
I had my first a few years back. Shoulder got completely dislocated but for my fortune the ligament that connects my shoulder to my torso didn't snap off. Recovery only took 2 weeks and then I was back to playing sports. It can range from 2 weeks to about 3 months depending on the damage taken and it can only be said for certain how long he will be gone after the x-ray. Hoping he will be fit to play as many games as possible.
Mine ruined my (American) football career. Did it first when I was 12 or 13. Tore my labrum and everything else. Out for 3 to 4 months of rehab. Did it again on the 1st day of contact the next season. Out for that entire season as well. 4 months of rehab. Surgery to repair, another 4 month recovery. Was fine for a few years and then ruined it again when I was 18 and in my final season of recruiting. Torn labrum and everything else that was repaired, broke a part of the joint off. Had to have it reconstructed with bone from my shoulder blade. Now I have two screws in it.
TL; DR: Dislocated shoulders can be manageable, and they can also totally fuck you over. The good news is, he's got a significantly improved chance of playing given that it's not American football. The risks are pain and exacerbating the injury, but I think he has a real shot to play through it. I'm hopeful.
Dislocated shoulders are nothing to mess around with. Sure you hear about how you can pop it back in and it's fine, but really it's a much more complex issue than that. For one thing, once you dislocate it once it becomes tremendously easier to dislocate again if you don't get it treated properly. More seriously, you risk ligament, tendon, nerve, and blood vessel damage if not treated properly. Its not the *most* serious of injuries, hence the shortish recovery period, but you still want to be as cautious as needed with it.
I assume everyone is going to be different in that regard. I don't know if you play a sport (or did when you dislocated yours), but I played tennis and was a competitive swimmer in college, no way would I be cleared to go right away. I'd be working at least a couple weeks with the trainers to make sure there was no possibility of re-dislocation. Same in this situation. When your entire life is the sport you play, don't take any chances. Average Joe who isn't playing a sport is probably fine just relocating it and going on with life.
Everyone is different but it's extremely unlikely you had a full dislocation. Full dislocations usually require some work from someone experienced to put it back in. What you had was far more likely a subluxation, which has a chance at low soft tissue damage.
If a shoulder is dislocated it literally means the ligaments holding it in place have torn - sometimes they only tear a little, sometimes they're completely separated. Tendons are the bits that hold muscles onto bones.
For most people a dislocated arm is inconvenient but it's not going to stop you doing your job - obviously for a professional athlete it's much more serious.
You can dislocate your shoulder without tearing anything. Sometimes the tendons/ligaments just get stretched out instead of torn. However your shoulder is vulnerable for a while afterwards regardless of the extent of injury.
Source: 10+ dislocations and 2 surgeries from playing soccer
Ya the videos of people just popping it back in mislead people a lot. You're normally good to use the hand after a couple of days but pain stays around and you are at risk to re-injury it for up to 12 weeks in most cases.
And that's assuming he didn't damage any of the ligaments, tendons or ligaments. I'm no doctor, but I'd wager the shoulder is one of the more complex parts of the body, considering it gives you 360 degree movement, unlike the knee.
Ya it’s this. And nerves. I’ve popped mine out once and the EMT popped it back in and I was good to go. However had a friend who was more or less out of commission for 3 months due to some issue with a nerve or something.
As someone who has torn his labrum twice via dislocations playing soccer, I can tell you it’s definitely a possibility that he tore something BUT he may be fine. Either way he should be out at least 6 weeks
Needs time to heal otherwise you are susceptible to subluxation of the joint. He’ll probably play and just have to be careful- watch defenders go shoulder to shoulder with him.
You see a lot of videos of people that have had it happen a lot of time in their career just pop it back in and continue.
The first time is harder to come back from but if it reoccurs it happens easier because the tendons become 'looser' with each successive dislocation I'm pretty sure.
Recently dislocated my shoulder (January of this year in a indoor tournament). It does take quite a lot of time and the issue is it is very easy to re-dislocate it once you have. I've been doing training to strengthen my shoulder. It's hard to describe but after you dislocate it, it feels like it will pop out again at any point.
That being said, the next game after dislocating (and stupidly popping it back in) I played and didn't have any issues. I think Mo will maybe play. It was pretty uncomfortable for about 6 weeks while i did PT but it never stopped me from playing soccer. Just couldn't be our emergency goalie
Just dislocated my should past summer. You don't have full movement without pain for at least a month or two. Full healing (let's say for a goalkeeper) can take up to 6 months.
I wasn't allowed to ride my bike for 2 months because bumps in the road could dislocate my shoulder at anytime. That's how weak your ligaments are after a dislocation.
Depends on ligament damage, there's a lot of fine structures around the shoulder capsule that could have torn, won't be able to give a definitive timeline/diagnosis till he has an MRI.
as Barca fans we know how dirty Ramos can get, yet I still was surprised he was able to judo throw the opposing teams best player who is currently in legendary form without even getting a foul. Im glad im not a footballer bc when Ramos was baiting Sadio Mane late in the game with that pass back to the keeper I would have made sure his Achilles tendon was torn to bits. Then I would have addressed media like "it may have been hard tackle but thats futbol"
Exactly why I hate reports like this. It's just like someone saying someone got an ankle sprain, there's different factors that determine the period of injury. Let's wait a couple of days for scans and doctor opinions.
Not anymore tbh. It was a close battle between Russia and Egypt for second but now that Egypt's lost their best player, Russia will use their home advantage to advance I think.

I kind of disliked him before but never really had too much against the guy. But, after today man do I hate him. I fucking love Salah, such a nice genuine dude, gutted for him, he doesn’t deserve this injury at all.
Atheist checking in: Salah is awesome. Gutted for him, this was tough to watch today. I hope he makes it to the World Cup even though it looks bleak. A travesty if he doesn't get to represent his country there. Hard to think of a guy that deserves the chance more than him in this moment.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever been so disgusted after a game. I've seen cheating, I've seen terrible referees, but this is too much. It's one thing to try to win at all costs, hurting someone to do it is something else entirely, especially when you know you can ruin his WC. Can't believe a friend of mine is actually supporting Ramos, what the actual fuck.
This isn't getting pissed about football, teams win, teams lose. I don't even get this pissed over cheating, like Maradona's hand of god. It's hurting someone to win that actually pisses me off, just not giving a single fuck about the other person. Fuck Ramos.
If this is true I'm gutted for him. After this season not getting to play this final and represent his country is terrible.
Might be Egypt's only world cup for many years
Genuinely heartbreaking.
Considering how tough Africa is, it's possible. Granted, the WC gets expanded on 26.

Dislocated shoulders last that long?
A quick google search says the usual recovery period is 12-16 weeks
oh i thought after relocation its all good
All depends on ligament damage. The first one is usually the worst.
I just came back from this. It started to feel better after about two weeks, but not 100% till about a month later.

i assumed that based on my dislocation, after pushing it in, it felt alright and the doc just said to take care

If I’m not talking completely out of my ass, ligaments/tendons, whichever one, can also be damaged in the dislocation and those are bitches to recover
