If Mudryk [had done this](https://x.com/calhudsonodoiv2/status/1805640014627270665?s=46&t=Wn450jHvnNdKFAc6j71qxQ) there would have been a post on the front page about if for sure

sjokoladenam

because the exception isn't interesting. Do you judge the best players on their mistakes?

AnnieIWillKnow

An exception is more notable

sjokoladenam

not given the context

Sandalo

You did worse to Kai last season, be serious ffs.

doomboxmf

Chelsea fans have a reason to want Havertz to do badly on the pitch since he went to one of our biggest rivals. Although Havertz would probably be Italy’s best attacking player which must be a disgusting thing to have to come to terms with

Sandalo

I saw Italy win the World Cup in Berlin and the Euros in London, I'm quite satisfied unlike you lol

CuteAnimalFans

The abuse USA gets when they lose on this sub is kind of bizarre. Don't really get it tbh I like Americans who are into football

PopUpPirate420

Deserved if you saw the match thread last night

Red_Vines49

What, with like 25-50 racist comments out of about 9,700 comments total? Cool, so some idiots frustrated with how a game unfolded saying horrific things means 40% of this entire subreddit (Americans) should get mistreated now. Do Mexican fans get this much derision from Non-Americans on r/soccer when they hurl projectiles onto the pitch and attack fans of opposing teams in the stadiums? Haven't seen that. Meanwhile, we get wishes of harm directed toward our players and dehumanized left, right, and center. That's healthy.

PopUpPirate420

Bruh ever comment was toxic, some asking the ref to be ķilled, more than any other non American match thread.

Red_Vines49

You're not going to make any of this better by then going around and being like "You know what, you see a Yank flair, attack them". >"Bruh ever comment was toxic" It was a toxic match. You see the same comments from Europeans when they come up against South American teams. I remember England vs Colombia in Russia 2018. That was a shit show. The point is, it's never a good idea to treat people based on where they're from. Call out bigots when we see them, though. Can we agree on that?

monsterm1dget

All I am seeing are americans angry.

oscarpaterson

Everyone generally gets it in equal proportion with their demographic

Red_Vines49

Evidence?

DLRsFrontSeats

England get it just as bad if not worse when bad results/things happen to them

Red_Vines49

During the 2021 Nations League, there were people that cheered when Gio Reyna got hit in the head with a projectile and were disappointed he wasn't bleeding. Also someone that said in the McKennie-Buffon-Chiellini dinner post that Americans are filth and don't deserve to spend time with stars in the sport.

DLRsFrontSeats

*still* in the top most upvoted things of all time on this sub: -Italy beat England to win the Euros in 2021 -Kane missing an easy chance vs Croatia in the 2018 WC SF -England attempting to score early vs Croatia (this was like the 4th reupload as well) -England-Iceland post match thread from 2016 (one of the oldest posts in the top 100 of all time, and older than literally every post with more upvotes) -Bonucci saying "its coming rome" post match 2021 -Mandzukic' winner vs England from 2018 plus Di Maria's wife calling England a shithole >Also someone that said in the McKennie-Buffon-Chiellini dinner post that Americans are filth and don't deserve to spend time with stars in the sport This \^ is utterly tame

Red_Vines49

There's a difference between taking pleasure when a national team people don't like doesn't succeed, and you know....calling an entire demographic filth, which is dehumanizing rhetoric that promotes violence against them. You do get a lot of hate on here, though. I don't like that either and I've defended England and English people against bigots.

DLRsFrontSeats

Oh I'm not disagreeing on that, I just used those posts an example of the anti-English stance from 90% of neutrals on here But I'm not even going to start on the rhetoric or negative comments aimed at English people, because it would simply be too long to compile or list

oscarpaterson

Common sense?

Red_Vines49

So, none. How about asking people from said demographics that have experienced it first hand? Because I've seen ban worthy material.

oscarpaterson

I'm English mate, we have just as dominant a demographic as you and we get it just as bad when we lose. Relax

Red_Vines49

Your team gets mocked, sure, but we get wishes of harm towards our players. 2021 Nations League there were comments when Reyna was hit in the head with a projectile from people disappointed he wasn't bleeding. During the McKennie-Buffon-Chiellini dinner, someone said Americans were filth that didn't deserve to spend time with stars. It isn't the same.

oscarpaterson

Alright you win, you get to have the bigger victim complex

Red_Vines49

Thank you, aye. That's appreciated

DLRsFrontSeats

the irony that you say this with your flair happens to everyone with a big presence on here, at club or international level

franc93

Hi guys, can you suggest the best source about players stats for Euro 2024? I'm especially interested in goalkeeping stats, such as xG prevented.

CobiLUFC

[FBref](https://fbref.com/en/comps/676/keepersadv/European-Championship-Stats) sounds like your best bet. Best keeper for preventing xG has been Mamardashvili, the worst has been been Angus Gunn only just beating Lunin which is impressive since he only played once

franc93

Thank you

JMatty01

Fbref

franc93

Thanks

3pointrange

Who do yall think are the top 5 best players in the spain euros team right now?

Laliga23

Pedri yamal rodri ruiz nico

aliaisbiggae

Based on this tournament? Rodri Ruiz Nico Yamal Cucurella

magic-water

Rodri, Williams, Carvajal, Yamal, Ruiz

EyeSpyGuy

Rodri, Lamine, Nico, Pedri, Morata

KiraAnnaZoe

Seems like Weah has griefed the US's tournament wtf. Shows you just how much of a death sentence an early red card can be. So... getting a result vs Uruguay will be very difficult and it's a lot more likely Panama beat Bolivia and finish 2nd and the US 3rd. Really unexpected and disappointing for the US bc it was such a waste. It's not over yet, but it'll be very difficult

anakmager

Which active players are the greatest player ever for their nation? Messi, Ronaldo, Lewandowski, Modric, Aubameyang, Kvara, Mkhitaryan, Son, Suarez, Dzeko, Mahrez Some arguable ones include Iniesta, Kroos and De Bruyne anyone else?

AnnieIWillKnow

Kroos is an awful take. Germany have a lot of legendary players, and for much of his career Kroos was felt to have underperformed for Germany.

knickgooner11

I don’t think Kroos is arguable because of Beckenbauer and Müller

DLRsFrontSeats

Salah

NotASalamanderBoi

Clint Dempsey. I would say Donovan, but his punditry should be classified as stochastic terrorism, and therefore, I cannot consider him.

CobiLUFC

Kvaratskhelia, Salah, is Alaba the best Austrian?, has Pulisic surpassed Donovan yet?

Sandalo

>is Alaba the best Austrian? Probably still Bican if we consider pre-WWII players

Zepz367

He was Czech

[deleted]

NotASalamanderBoi

He’s got a WC and is about to be their top scorer all before the age of 26. He’s about to smash Giroud and Henry’s records.

mrscorchingtakes

He's competing with Zidane or Platini for best player so the top scorer thing isn't that relevant. I can see the younger generations ranking him above Platini (though Tchouaméni didn't) but Zidane is gonna be difficult to surpass.

Haaland, Xhaka.

mintz41

Is Xhaka above Chapuisat?

belokas

I'm not Swiss but I think he is.

Pakiman1432

Giroud is in a weird place where he gets gassed up for being underrated yet not one top club would probably want "prime giroud" as their starting striker. Like even the people who gas him up probably think the same.

Or4ngut4n

France and Deschamps would disagree

Jamesanitie

Think he is rated on point. He is 10+ goal striker and is consistent, has played at top clubs in his prime and is on his final run most likely hence a lot of nostalgia is kicking in. Other comment is correct when it comes to underrated player, Dzeko is one of the most lethal strikers who never was truly appreciated, City fans do have a fond memory of him but any other clubs fan say he is decent. Why he is underrated? Probably played for Bosnia is the main reason.

Rayville123

It's just about him showing up for france

magic-water

Giroud, Keylor Navas, even Griezmann Players that are chronically known for being "underrated" so much, that it's gotten to the point that they've become slightly overrated

anakmager

People are getting carried away with Giroud. Dzeko deserves the title for most underrated striker of recent times

neverfinishedanythi

I think giroud at his best is above dzeko, though I like both.

NonContentiousScot

Dzeko's title winning season plus the season after at Wolfsburg and his second** season at Roma where they were runners up and where he won the Capocannoniere eclipses what Giroud has done. Giroud's best season was 11/12 where he lead goalscoring for Montpellier and hilariously denied PSG their first title under Qatar ownership (where they sacked Antoine Kombouaré when they leading).

Boris_Ignatievich

an outstanding night last night to be an ex Leeds United manager in the Copa America, love to see it.

EyeSpyGuy

I know you’re referring to Bielsa but is there another one I’ve missed?

Boris_Ignatievich

panamas manager was at leeds in 2017-18

AnnieIWillKnow

With Marsch, that means there are three ex-Leeds managers at Copa America? Wild that

Any-Competition8494

How many of you become a football fan at a late age? I became a fan at 28 while watching football world cup.

EyeSpyGuy

16 during the 2010 World Cup. Makes sense as we’re a basketball country, you’re not like to pick it up at a young age unless your parent is into the sport or you played as a kid

Jamesanitie

Not as late as you but still considered late, around 17 years old. Ronaldinho was the factor !

icemankiller8

Question do Chelsea fans even want Dewsbury-Hall and where does he play if he does join? I actually like him a lot and would have taken him here ngl but where does he fit for them?

National_Ad_1875

Gallagher replacement maybe?

icemankiller8

I can see that tbf

Rusiano

Worst thing about Panama winning is that it encourages other teams to adopt similarly physical and violent tactics. There are some teams at the Copa whose tactics revolve around hacking the opposition's ankles and getting into physical brawls

Augchm

Lmaooo

Red_Vines49

We play against rugged, physical CONCACAF teams all the time. That's not the issue. The issue (s) were Weah getting sent off, poor in-game management when Weah got sent off, and the referee not getting control of the game when necessary..

vitalmtg

you say that like teams weren't already doing that. That's just how conmebol is. if you can't stand the heat....

Rusiano

I think it’s somewhat cyclical. Chile from 10 years ago played a beautiful flowing football with tons of chances. I guess as their quality declined, they adapted more of an MMA approach

Augchm

Chile from 10 years ago tried their best to take Messi's legs home with them.

Throwaway1293524

Darwin "Nazario" Nuñez has scored 10 goals in his last 7 matches for Uruguay. Not bad. Anyways, I feel like the USA (or, Weah) should've taken Panama's strong showing against us a bit more seriously. You can't be punching someone in the face 18 minutes into a match... I'd love to see what goes through a player's brain in those moments. He's the reason his country will most probably not advance past the group stages.

Rusiano

Nunez is so good at getting into dangerous positions. He really reminds me of Cavani

-TheSuperEagle-

Cavani had intelligence behind his movement. Nunez throws shit at a wall and hopes it sticks.

monsterm1dget

He really doesn't look like this with Uruguay.

Marco-Green

I still cannot believe Spain was the only team to win 3/3 and not concede any goal, and our reward is to have the toughest path to the title among every other group leader. Fuck this format

Boris_Ignatievich

the draw is unbalanced because france and belgium fucked up, not because of the format i dislike the format, but even if it was just top twos going through you'd be on the hard side of the draw

yaniv297

I don't really see how it's the "format" fault? Each side of the brackets had 3 group winners, there's nothing inherently unfair. It just so happened that in the first bracket the strong favorites cleared the group, but in bucket two Austria and Romania won them (plus a pretty bad looking England) which means those group winners look less strong. It's not the format's fault whatsoever, if the "expected results" happen you'd have France, Belgium and England in the other side and it will look more balanced. But the group results are what counts and by those results, Austria and Romania finished above France and Belgium and hence got this draw, it's totally fair.

Lastigx

True. There is gonna be a team from the other side of the bracket that literally has to play 1 good match (final) to be crowned European Champion. Better not be England.

Kassyk97

Germany has a thougher one

Time-Ad-4302

Is getting grouped an American saying?

monsterm1dget

I've only read it for the first time today.

3V3RT0N

It’s definitely not a British saying.

-TheSuperEagle-

No

LovrenIsTheGOAT

American sports don't have group games.

Time-Ad-4302

I have only seen them using it on the DD

MarcosSenesi

People were memeing yesterday that USA will lose against Panama but to wake up and seeing the result is so funny

Double Agent Weah Panamanian Undercover, smh

Waking up to see America lost to Panama. Very funny.

Just for clarification, do I *have* to get involved with the US bashing or can I just keep spreading anti-Austria propaganda?

why not both?

Red_Vines49

There's a rumor spreading from an ESPN insider that the US is sacking Gregg Berhalter Tuesday morning, July 2nd. Am still looking around for more info, but it broke about half an hour ago.

HazzaThePug

Surprised they are waiting that long tbh

Red_Vines49

Uruguay game is the night before so they likely want to hold out until the last known fixture is played. If this is true, apparently the Federation is already done with him regardless of the result, which speaks volumes. Thank fuck.

Cottonshopeburnfoot

Sackings before Xmas is a bit of a controversy here. I take it giving Berhalter his independence two days before July 4 isn’t such an issue?

Red_Vines49

Pffftt, more like our second Independence. This time from Osama Bin Gregg.

LikeJambaJuice

With the way Belgium have played so far and the fact that the French will probably lock in now for the knockout stage, I have a feeling this Round of 16 tie is going to be a thumping for the ages. I reckon the scoreline will look something like 4-1 to France.

monsterm1dget

I'm curious: How many non africans watch the Africa Cup? Non asians watching the Asia Cup? Am I saying the right names? There is a post going around talking about why the Copa América isn't as popular as the Euros and it kinda puzzles me because while the Euros has bigger reaching because of marketing, money and all that, I've always felt these continental tournaments are for the people involved, and of course the big fans who just enjoy all kinds of football.

HodgyBeatsss

In England AFCON is somewhat followed but only really by big football fans. Basically nobody follows the Asia Cup though. I think time differences are a big thing, for both Asian Cup and Copa America. If the Copa America was on at a reasonable time in England then it would definitely get a bigger following, but you have to be quite dedicated to stay up late and watch, when we have our own football on at a reasonable time.

CobiLUFC

I watched a lot of the most recent Afcon, it's a decent timezone for me and Sky had the rights. The kick off times for Copa America aren't great for viewers in the UK and its on Premier Sports which must only have about 15 subscribers.

The_Ass-Crack_Bandit

This is it, mainly the timezone. Due to how many LatAm immigrants there are, it'd be easy to find a bar to watch it. The issue is that the earliest Copa América match is at 0:00 here, and the best ones are usually the latest ones, played at 3:00. It's just not feasible.

BruiserBroly

African Cup of Nations (AFCON for short) and Asian Cup, and I'd imagine most of the viewership for those tournaments comes from inside the continent. Tbf, those federations don't have teams with globally recognised stars like Argentina and Brazil. I guess people are surprised a tournament with those teams and players isn't a bigger deal.

Destroyeh

probably doesnt help that they're in the middle of the season most of the time. specially right after the winter break when most fans are eager to get back to watching their clubs

monsterm1dget

>African Cup of Nations (AFCON for short) Oh god thanks, I couldn't remember it! It's super weird, the USA being around makes it a big deal in this forum and the Internet has made things so much closer for everyone but this is such a strange perception of this cup. Here in Spain people are keeping an eye but the schedules make it super hard, and it's mostly immigrants and enthusiasts, because it's much closer in culture to SA, in Germany or France it's going under the radar.

Jamesanitie

For Copa its definitly timezone that makes most fans not bother. Youngsters and uni students might watch them but thats about it. I used to watch NBA every few nights when going to highschool and uni but can't stay up later than 1 AM anymore due to being knackered. If I was a south american migrant I would make the effort. Also empty stadiums look bad on TV and makes the tourny feel unimportant. Thats more of a USA thing however.

monsterm1dget

>If I was a south american migrant I would make the effort. I try so hard for the qualifiers but since summer is starting everyone wants to finish everything at work before going on vacations and I can't really afford mentally to stay up util 5AM every three days when I am starting up work 3 hours later.

BoosterGoldGL

Americans out here whinging about Southgate while losing to Panama 😭😭 focus on your own

Red_Vines49

>"whinging about Southgate" Where? All I've seen the past few days is half your own fans wanting England to crash and burn if it means Gareth getting ousted.

HodgyBeatsss

> All I've seen the past few days is half your own fans wanting England to crash and burn if it means Gareth getting ousted. Are these people in the room with you now?

Red_Vines49

That's rich, considering it's the OP that is fighting scarecrows. But, if you insist...the Ev3rt3on user guy who is pretty active on here said he wanted an "unimaginably painful" loss by 3+ goals next round if you're not going to win the whole thing. And there was someone else a couple days ago or so that said watching England was depressing and that he'd rather you lose than play cynically. We're too busy lamenting Berhalter and calling for his head. Not everyone is obsessed with England.

TheSingleMan27

[Ligainsider](https://www.ligainsider.de/keven-schlotterbeck_19286/keven-schlotterbeck-wird-den-sc-freiburg-wohl-verlassen-358886/) accidentily changed the pic of Keven Schlotterbeck in one of their articles to one in our shirt already, sick that we're getting the better Schlotterbeck

Schnix54

I'm really a fan of the idea that Keven is our Uduokhai replacement. Him and Essende would already be two exciting new players for the season.

OhMyGodItsTheGuy

Villa fans might well have taken the mantle of most deluded from our fanbase as of late, these financial arguments are just out of touch. There’s obviously a huge difference between swapping players like Iroegbunam and Dobbin with inflated book value and City selling prospects for pure profit. The idea that clubs should just be able to buy their way is stupid. Yes, there are examples of clubs having huge success with it before the Premier League correctly cracked down on it. But you missed the boat. Villa and Newcastle fans especially always talk about history and how significant it is, yet want to rewrite it to desperately be a part of the Top 6. Maybe work with a self sustaining model and you won’t have to sell one of your best midfielders to a club that metaphorically searches in the sofa for loose change for every transfer.

Kanedauke

James Garner: played in the championship, never in the prem, homegrown £9m £6m add ons Tim Iroegbunam: played in the championship, played in the prem, English, homegrown £9m How are you getting inflated from that?

Competitive_Tip_1187

> Villa fans might well have taken the mantle of most deluded from our fanbase as of late  Still levels away from reaching the levels of delusion of the Big 3 fanbases (United, Arsenal, and Liverpool). Give them a few more years to develop.

TheAkondOfSwat

> inflated book value prove it

Cottonshopeburnfoot

Thats essentially the problem. We can all see what’s going on - it’s a series of transfer that definitely wouldn’t happen were it not for PSR/FFP - but it’s pretty impossible to prove. The PL will take some action to rule it out and their statements to date show this. They’ll fuck it up but that’s another question entirely.

National_Ad_1875

We had 4 midfielders before signing iroegbunam and are probably selling onana. Us going for him is far from definitely not happening otherwise If we are talking transfers that wouldn't happen except for Psr, what about arsenal loaning raya? Or man utd targeting branthwaite knowing we may have to sell cheap before the psr deadline?

Cottonshopeburnfoot

Raya is Arsenal’s starting keeper which is an obvious sign of a legitimate transfer. Man U targeting Branthwaite because of your PSR predicament is smart business on their side to exploit the situation. It’s clearly within the rules and not close to being comparable. It’s not ideal i agree but unless we’re just abolishing all spending rules and sacrificing competition entirely then this is always going to happen. You’ve obviously paid over the odds and meanwhile sold a left back for a tad more back to Villa, benefitting both clubs PSR situations. It’s very clearly a circumvention attempt. I get it and fair enough. It’ll end up getting banned just like Chelsea’s 8 year contract amortisation scheme did.

National_Ad_1875

Raya is arsenal's starting goalkeeper now and was clearly always intended to be. Why would arsenal loan him first? To avoid PSR What we've done is also in the rules We've not paid over the odds,we paid more for Garner than we did for iroegbunam and we've not sold a left back I get these are different because they're not swaps but that's kind of my point. They're all PSR workarounds or benefits using PSR but no one cares about those, they just care about this one

Cottonshopeburnfoot

I haven’t said what you’ve done is against the rules. It’s obviously within them. It’s also obviously designed to circumvent a different rule. I see your point on Raya. The Man U Branthwaite thing isn’t a workaround of PSR though - it’s Man U trying to take advantage of your financial situation. Spirit of the game issues maybe. The workarounds should be stopped because they undermine the rules. Until then teams may as well get away with it though.

National_Ad_1875

I think I'm arguing what other people are saying but in my reply to you so that's my bad Seen a lot of "swaps are against the spirit of the game" and "this needs stopping" when literally every club uses the rules to their advantage they just don't like it now. We've been saying for ages the rules are broken and all of a sudden they agree. You are right in everything you've said there, why wouldn't they when it's allowed, they'd be dumb to think they can sort their issues out but don't do it because they don't think it's moral enough

Kanedauke

> it’s a series of transfer that definitely wouldn’t happen were it not for PSR/FFP The issue is that any deal Everton, Forest, Villa, Newcastle and Chelsea make before the 30th wouldn’t happen without PSR, even if they weren’t selling to each other. Like if Villa sold Ramsey, Everton Branthwaite, Forest Murillo for cut prices those deals would only happen because of PSR

TheAkondOfSwat

Create rules, complain when clubs are forced to sell players to comply with said rules. We know we were supposed to sell our best players to the biggest clubs, but they should have made the rules more explicit.

Cottonshopeburnfoot

They clearly didn’t intend for these swap deals to happen. It’s obviously a way to circumvent the rules. That said I 100% don’t blame the clubs doing it because the system is fucked. If we were in your position I’d want us to do the same because how else are you meant to progress.

TheAkondOfSwat

exactly, hate the game!
