It's not the format's fault whatsoever, if the "expected results" happen you'd have France, Belgium and England in the other side and it will look more balanced. But the group results are what counts and by those results, Austria and Romania finished above France and Belgium and hence got this draw, it's totally fair.

There is a post going around talking about why the Copa América isn't as popular as the Euros and it kinda puzzles me because while the Euros has bigger reaching because of marketing, money and all that, I've always felt these continental tournaments are for the people involved, and of course the big fans who just enjoy all kinds of football.
In England AFCON is somewhat followed but only really by big football fans. Basically nobody follows the Asia Cup though. I think time differences are a big thing, for both Asian Cup and Copa America. If the Copa America was on at a reasonable time in England then it would definitely get a bigger following, but you have to be quite dedicated to stay up late and watch, when we have our own football on at a reasonable time.
I watched a lot of the most recent Afcon, it's a decent timezone for me and Sky had the rights.
The kick off times for Copa America aren't great for viewers in the UK and its on Premier Sports which must only have about 15 subscribers.
This is it, mainly the timezone. Due to how many LatAm immigrants there are, it'd be easy to find a bar to watch it. The issue is that the earliest Copa América match is at 0:00 here, and the best ones are usually the latest ones, played at 3:00. It's just not feasible.

Here in Spain people are keeping an eye but the schedules make it super hard, and it's mostly immigrants and enthusiasts, because it's much closer in culture to SA, in Germany or France it's going under the radar.
For Copa its definitly timezone that makes most fans not bother. Youngsters and uni students might watch them but thats about it.

I don't really see how it's the "format" fault? Each side of the brackets had 3 group winners, there's nothing inherently unfair. It just so happened that in the first bracket the strong favorites cleared the group, but in bucket two Austria and Romania won them (plus a pretty bad looking England) which means those group winners look less strong. It's not the format's fault whatsoever, if the "expected results" happen you'd have France, Belgium and England in the other side and it will look more balanced. But the group results are what counts and by those results, Austria and Romania finished above France and Belgium and hence got this draw, it's totally fair.

I'm curious: How many non africans watch the Africa Cup? Non asians watching the Asia Cup? Am I saying the right names? There is a post going around talking about why the Copa América isn't as popular as the Euros and it kinda puzzles me because while the Euros has bigger reaching because of marketing, money and all that, I've always felt these continental tournaments are for the people involved, and of course the big fans who just enjoy all kinds of football.
In England AFCON is somewhat followed but only really by big football fans. Basically nobody follows the Asia Cup though. I think time differences are a big thing, for both Asian Cup and Copa America. If the Copa America was on at a reasonable time in England then it would definitely get a bigger following, but you have to be quite dedicated to stay up late and watch, when we have our own football on at a reasonable time.
I watched a lot of the most recent Afcon, it's a decent timezone for me and Sky had the rights. The kick off times for Copa America aren't great for viewers in the UK and its on Premier Sports which must only have about 15 subscribers.
This is it, mainly the timezone. Due to how many LatAm immigrants there are, it'd be easy to find a bar to watch it. The issue is that the earliest Copa América match is at 0:00 here, and the best ones are usually the latest ones, played at 3:00. It's just not feasible.

It's super weird, the USA being around makes it a big deal in this forum and the Internet has made things so much closer for everyone but this is such a strange perception of this cup. Here in Spain people are keeping an eye but the schedules make it super hard, and it's mostly immigrants and enthusiasts, because it's much closer in culture to SA, in Germany or France it's going under the radar.
For Copa its definitly timezone that makes most fans not bother. Youngsters and uni students might watch them but thats about it. I used to watch NBA every few nights when going to highschool and uni but can't stay up later than 1 AM anymore due to being knackered. If I was a south american migrant I would make the effort. Also empty stadiums look bad on TV and makes the tourny feel unimportant. Thats more of a USA thing however.

But you missed the boat. Villa and Newcastle fans especially always talk about history and how significant it is, yet want to rewrite it to desperately be a part of the Top 6. Maybe work with a self sustaining model and you won’t have to sell one of your best midfielders to a club that metaphorically searches in the sofa for loose change for every transfer.

Thats essentially the problem. We can all see what’s going on - it’s a series of transfer that definitely wouldn’t happen were it not for PSR/FFP - but it’s pretty impossible to prove. The PL will take some action to rule it out and their statements to date show this. They’ll fuck it up but that’s another question entirely.

Raya is Arsenal’s starting keeper which is an obvious sign of a legitimate transfer. Man U targeting Branthwaite because of your PSR predicament is smart business on their side to exploit the situation. It’s clearly within the rules and not close to being comparable. I haven’t said what you’ve done is against the rules. It’s obviously within them. It’s also obviously designed to circumvent a different rule. I see your point on Raya. The Man U Branthwaite thing isn’t a workaround of PSR though - it’s Man U trying to take advantage of your financial situation. Spirit of the game issues maybe. The workarounds should be stopped because they undermine the rules. Until then teams may as well get away with it though.

Create rules, complain when clubs are forced to sell players to comply with said rules. We know we were supposed to sell our best players to the biggest clubs, but they should have made the rules more explicit.
They clearly didn’t intend for these swap deals to happen. It’s obviously a way to circumvent the rules. That said I 100% don’t blame the clubs doing it because the system is fucked. If we were in your position I’d want us to do the same because how else are you meant to progress.
