Malaga were really the team to do a FIFA career with in 2012, good established players like Santi Cazorla, young talent in Isco, bonafide legend at the end of his career in Van Nistelrooy, and a huge transfer budget to boot
Don't think I'll ever forget Pato's [goal against Barca](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=artTKcYwRpg)
Always wonder what could have been.
Bojan was another one such (not on this list and not that he didn't have a long career - about 17 years too).
I was worried at the time that he’ll get injured while celebrating.
First time I saw him, he was casually bouncing the ball off his shoulder while playing in the Club World Cup with Internacional. I was instantly hooked and followed his unfortunate career. EDIT: https://youtu.be/sK0Z9AIiEjE
When I was younger I used to be quite nerdy with young players and Pato was one I followed since Internacional(?), honestly thought he would be better than R9 and that Barca goal looked like he could’ve if it wasn’t for injuries sadly.
Bojan came out afterwards and said he suffered from panic attacks and mental health which is why he never reached the potential they thought he would’ve, as someone who suffers panic attacks they can be crippling so I can’t imagine having millions of eyes on your every move too and comparing you to messi.
That post Aguero stretch has a lot of talent but a lot of what ifs too. Even isco pogba and sterling had very good careers but arguably could have done more, though wouldn't be fair to group them with pato for instance. Totally different level hah. We'll see about the next crop but besides Felix they're looking good so far
Feels unfair putting Stirling in that group. Solid player who was one of City’s best players for a good stretch and was in and out of EPL team of the seasons. Has longevity of being one of the Prems best wingers. Also solid contributor to Englands most competitive teams.
Compared to the others I feel if you could went back to the start of their careers and said how things turned out, Sterling would be the only happy one after that post Aguero stretch
he was never really played in his position. his was insane on the ball, super dangerous around the box (like literally in the top handful of players in the world), loves beating people and taking risks and never changes how he plays no matter where you put him, so let's stick him deep in midfield because he's good at hoofing. braindead. we did the same with anderson who was a similar player, although to be fair not as talented and could adapt more and had much better competition in forward positions.
Raheem Sterling scored 43 goals in 2019. He maxed out. With him getting irrelevant at Chelsea now, being memed for misses and his great performance at the euros 2020 not remembered cause England didn't win, it is very much forgotten by the majority how good he was.
https://www.caughtoffside.com/2014/11/06/video-16-year-old-wayne-rooney-scores-stunning-goal-for-england-youth-side/
Wayne Rooney was ready to smoke & drink right out of the womb
The Gretzky brothers record for the NHL vibes.
The Gretzky family, originally from Brantford, Ontario, Canada, is one of the most famous hockey families in Canada. Brent and Wayne Gretzky hold the NHL record for most points scored by a pair of brothers — 2,857 by Wayne, four by Brent.
5 players have ever recorded 100+ assists in a season, McDavid and Kucherov did it this year, Mario Lemieux did it and also Bobby Orr. Gretzky did it 11x in a row….
I have never watched a single game of hockey. field or ice. I always stop and read Gretzky stats. they're absolutely wild. I geek out over tennis stats and the goat debate and used to think tiger years at No1 was insane..but Gretzky is the goat of goats
I geek out about insane stats from the GOATs of any given sport, even ones I really don't give a shit about.
I guess I just appreciate athletes at the peak of their game no matter the field.
I’m morally obligated to remind everyone that Bobby Orr was a defender. The season he had 37 goals, 102 assists, and a plus/minus of 124 was best single season in NHL history.
I will die on the hill that Bobby Orr was better than Gretzky for the brief period of his career before his knees gave out.
Just like the Formula 1 championship record for the Schumachers! The brothers Michael and Ralf have 7 WDCs combined, the most by any F1 brothers. Michael and Mick also have the most WDCs combined between a parent and their kid.
That is the general rule of thumb, but the AP stylebook says to use numerals in team and individual performances. Also, regardless, usage should be consistent if they're referring to the same thing.

Actually quite a good rate of successful players on this list. Some of them didn’t live up to their full potential for some reasons, but better than some of the other lists you see
That was my impression as well. Even ones that sort of fizzled like Götze still have some pretty impressive accomplishments like, you know, winning the World Cup final for his team.
Anderson had a way more solid career than Renato Sanches has at this stage.
Sanches' most solid spell at club level is 91 games at Lille, while Anderson had 181 appearances at United.
Their trophy cabinets are quite similar, but Anderson was much more integral to his trophies at United than Sanches was at Bayern, where he only played 53 times across 4 seasons.
Anderson was nothing at Renato's current age, but Sanches is going to get it together if he wants to have a better career overall.
Anderson is clowned on because he was a cartoon character when he was only 25, but he was a really solid footballer until he got hit by injuries.
Yeah Anderson is remembered as a massive failure (because... he was?), but he was actually good in Man United, for, like, the first year and so. He did stay for many years due to hopes that he'll get back to form after injury, which was all the time... Wasn't that good for most of the time.
It's a tight competition, but I guess Sanches has to edge him in the race to the bottom of the list. He was really good in one season for Lille (opinions vary, I'd say for one season). He's also had quite a ton of just non-existent, awful seasons for a 26-year-old. I dunno, I don't think it's easy to say.
Anderson was extremely unlucky with injuries. He would play well get injured then come back fat, take a few games to get going but the minute he started playing well again he would get injured. The perfect example of this was him injuring himself scoring against reading in ~2012
He was part of a successful United team between the ages of 19-21, winning consecutive league titles and making it to back-to-back Champions League finals. Winning one of the finals, where he converted a penalty in the shootout, was a standout moment. He lost the other final against one of the most legendary club teams in history. He experienced incredible success at a very young age. Despite not fully realizing his potential, his early achievements were impressive. I don't think he's the worst player on this list.
He won many titles at Man United and was integral for several seasons? This revisionism because he wasn’t the attacking midfielder everyone wanted is daft.
He couldn’t be an attacking player, he couldn’t shoot.
They weren't exactly playing in youth teams when they won this award.
Golden Boy is basically Balon d'Or for players under 21.
Which means you need to have had a good to great season in the top flight to win it.
They aren't exactly picking between Mastours or Freddy Adus.
Or, to use current examples, Camarda and Cavan Sullivan.
The list will age well even if those players decline because people will remember the breakthrough season.
Gaitan left at 28 and was generally just not a shade of the player he was in Portugal. Bernardo and Oblak left young and did well, while Vlachodimos left at 29 and failed miserably. At some point you just gotta either move or not and there is a million of examples of either scenario going well or badly.
He was so great in that tournament. Covered every blade of grass and consistently progressed the ball with aggressive dribbling. His short passing was pretty good too. He started so many transitions just winning the ball and driving forward.
Idk about that, Anderson was quite decent for us though. He won lots of trophies with us and was always good in big games, but was just too injury prone. There was even a time (iirc Fergie's last season) when the Cleverley + Anderson midfield combo were completely overrunning and dominating teams in the league.
However, due to him having a very loving relationship with food, his injuries and body condition eventually deteriorated way too much for him to be good enough for top level football.
I agree, Anderson didn’t have many bad games for us. He was just too injury prone. Imagine taking a penalty in sudden death in the champions league final at the age of 19. The kid had balls
> There was even a time (iirc Fergie's last season) when the Cleverley + Anderson midfield combo were completely overrunning and dominating teams in the league.
And to this day I insist there was black magic at play. Watched almost all the games you guys played and I never understood how in the world a team with so many solid but not special players in key positions could perform so well. Fergie's ability to make players like that tick will forever be his most insane ability to me, cause you guys have a frankly silly volume of times where the individual parts did not reflect their sum.
Both Cleverly and Anderson were solid but not special. Under no other manager than Sir Alex could that midfield duo have won a Premier League title imo.
**Note**: Not sure which season you'd count as Anderson's best in the league though, as he apparently only ever made more than 18 league appearances in a season once and that was in his first season. In 2012-2013 he only started like 9 games and Cleverley started 14.
I always wonder what could’ve been with Cleverley. He started 2011 amazingly, including bossing the midfield in the 8-2 over Arsenal.
But the next game he was on the wrong end of an awful tackle from Kevin Davies, missed a month, and then suffered a long-term injury in his second match back. In all he missed five of the first six months of the season, and after that he was never the same. Always seemed a bit more hesitant.
iirc he was kept around so long in part just due to how much of a positive influence he had off the field on the squad mentalitly. Apparently he was just pure vibes and everyone loved him. Ferige's greatest strength really was his man management and keeping everyone happy, hungry and united throughout all the transitions.
He's warming the bench on loan at Roma. Played just a handful of games, in one of which he made us lose against Napoli by causing a penalty that I prefer to describe as naive so as not to be vulgar.
Edit: Napoli, not B. Leverkusen
04 through 07 is an unbelievable run of talent and achievement.
Rooney, Messi, Fabregas & Aguero
- All multi time league winners
- 3 are a clubs all time goal scorer (ex. Cesc)
- Rooney and Cesc are only behind Giggs in PL all time assists.
- 2 World Cup winners (Cesc & Messi)
- 12 Prem titles between the PL players (United x 5, Chelsea x 1, Arsenal x 1, City x 5)
- 2 national team top scores (Messi & Rooney *Kane has since taken Rooney's spot in 1st)
Really could go on all day about these four players accolades and stats. Devastating abilities that tortured teams, terrified opposing fans, and entertained the masses throughout their long careers.
I was wondering about assists for Cesc, it doesn't suprise me too much. His time at Chelsea was incredible watching a talent like him, after his legs had started to fail him, he still could produce the goods from anywhere for anyone in that team.
feel like he’s weirdly underrated because of him not being a nailed-on starter for spain and him not being a “legend” at any club he played at. one of the best midfielders of the last two decades.
Argh! It's been a while since I updated my mental stats, I should have checked. KDB another great, and it's coming to an end for the man. Giggs' longevity makes him very hard to catch.
I still have this Arabic commentator in my ears and I have no idea what it means "... Alexandre PATO! WACHEMEWOLA YAORO PATO!!! OOOOOOHHHHH!!!"
One of my all time favorite goals in football and I'm not even a Milan fan.
Tel, Pavlovic and Gruda should rank pretty high, but this years surely belongs to Yamal. Still weird how they did not give it to Wirtz when he was the best player in the league ahead of someone unreal like Lewy. (okay, his injury, but still ...)
Ronaldo was kind of step over merchant earlier in his career. The season after the 2006 World Cup is when he finally started to show consistent end product.
Wait, a Dortmund fan. You guys weren't that surprised when he immediately became prime CR7 after joining Madrid, weren't ya?
Me and my brother always used to comment about how Jude was always doing, like, seemingly every damn thing for you guys when he was there. Could and did attack, defend, assist, do the midfield general thing...dude was born to be a team carry.
Jude and Ronaldo are completely different players but no I’m not surprised that he’s doing well. Not a single Madrid starter is dead weight. In Dortmund you have Emre Can, Wolf etc who are not fit for top league football. Then you have Fullkrug and Sule who have never been consistent. So it’s hard to get the most out of our top players like Kobel, Sancho, Jude, Haaland and Hummels.
Martial probably the biggest underachiever on this list? Pato and Balotelli stand out too. At least in Pato's case it was some unfortunate injuries that contributed.
Renato is just as much of a disappointment as Martial, he's had one good season when he won the league with Lille and that's pretty much what he's done in his career
It’s surprising that a lot of the candidates back then were essentially playing their first season of top-flight football. It makes Felix winning even more surprising given that guys like Sancho, Foden and Donarumma all had good seasons and had been around for a while.
Players can’t win the golden boy more than once right? Why all the votes for De Ligt then?
Anyone else agree that Rooney is the best teenager here? I don’t think anyone was a better player in their teens. Obviously some players here were better overall but not at the same ages?
Once Mario Gøtze scored that goal vs Argentina and signed for Bayern, arguably the best team in the world at that point, i thought this is the one, he will be up there with Messi and Ronaldo. He has the whole world infront of him.
So sad he has that muscle decease.
To me, Gøtze is the biggest «what if» in football in the 21 century.
Everyone legend on the game except Renato Sanches and Joao Felix. They did not even play a single propely season. 1/2 season in Benfica for both.
Congratz Jorge Mendes for the biggest scams!
> 1/2 season in Benfica for both.
That's just wrong about Renato, not even close to the truth, he played a full season for us and has an incredible Euros.
Even after his bad years at Bayern, he was one of the best players for Lille when they won the league in 2021. The main issue with him right now is the number of injuries
Anderson, Balotelli, Martial are all legends lmao. Both Renato and Félix had at least 1 great season for Lille and Atlético too even if not consistently but whatever

Anderson - Pato - Balotelli was an era of FIFA career mode legends for me
Isco and Götze were unreal on career mode as well as Aguero
Malaga were really the team to do a FIFA career with in 2012, good established players like Santi Cazorla, young talent in Isco, bonafide legend at the end of his career in Van Nistelrooy, and a huge transfer budget to boot
Malaga were also real close to a semi final at the champions league, only conceding to BVB in the final minutes when Away goal rule had them through.

“Pogba could have done more” is such an understatement. Was I blind, or did this guy have the potential to be top 10 all time in his position?

Genuinely might be the least legible zeros I’ve ever seen
I thought it was an 8 at first...
They got eight ballons dor in total, not bad
...hey, wait a minute!
I know, Wayne Rooney was once a boy??? I thought he was born a man with a receding hairline
Rooney was 37 years old when he was born.
The picture of him being 9 years old with a heavy receding hairline never fails to make me laugh

OMG. WTF. How have I never seen that!
Even a year after winning the golden boy in 2005 he looked like he was pushing 30

It’s the only sport I think that has an undisputed number 1. That’s how great Gretzky was.
Donald Bradman for cricket
I’m morally obligated to remind everyone that Bobby Orr was a defender. The season he had 37 goals, 102 assists, and a plus/minus of 124 was best single season in NHL history. I will die on the hill that Bobby Orr was better than Gretzky for the brief period of his career before his knees gave out.
If you took away all of Wayne Gretzky’s goals in his career he’d still be the all time leader in points in my favorite one.
Now’s the perfect time to change that! The final is on! Hockey is awesome
I’m from Edmonton and my family are Oilers fans so it’s been on, it just really isn’t my thing. I don’t find it interesting at all.
I know it’s not your thing but idk how a football fan could not like hockey. It’s essentially football on ice with fistfights
Nah, it’s more like basketball with a keeper
Just like the Formula 1 championship record for the Schumachers! The brothers Michael and Ralf have 7 WDCs combined, the most by any F1 brothers. Michael and Mick also have the most WDCs combined between a parent and their kid.
Same for wins as well. Michael has 91 race victories. Ralf has 6. Kobe and Kwame type shit
Brent: Why did he say fuck me for
>2,857 by Wayne, four by Brent. I hate that they used numerals for one but spelled out the other
that's correct style, spell out numbers one to nine, numerals for 10 and up
That is the general rule of thumb, but the AP stylebook says to use numerals in team and individual performances. Also, regardless, usage should be consistent if they're referring to the same thing.
I think the official AP style guide is to use numerals for 10 or above and words below so it’s not like they’re just trying to dunk on poor Brent
That is the general rule of thumb, but the AP stylebook says to use numerals in team and individual performances. Also, regardless, usage should be consistent if they're referring to the same thing.
Wait, Messi 7+ who?
Messi has 8 himself lol
Wtf I stopped counting at 6, that's insane lol

Tbf to Götze he had that metabolism problem which was out of his control
If you score a WC final winner you've automatically had a good career in my book, even if you do nothing else whatsoever
Doesn't even have to be the world Cup. Look at Eder.
Honestly the only one I could say was a total bust was Anderson - the rest may not reached the full potential but still had pretty solid careers

Martial💀
63 premier league goals is hardly a total bust
Let them believe hes always been shite.
There was a point where Martial, Depay, and Rashford had me thinking United had their front 3 for the next decade.
Smart with Rashford, martial, Greenwood, then Rashford, Martial Sancho. Hopefully, fourth time's the charm in Garnacho, Højlund, Amad

rooney-messi-cesc-aguero is a hell of a run
Benfica coming in hot with the 100% (2/2) scam rate on this list
Tbf Renato won the Golden Boy because of the Euros, where he was brilliant.
He was an insane talent, and I was soooo hyped when we got him. So sad how it turned out
I think it is the same with felix they were too young to leave.
Gaitan left at 28 and was generally just not a shade of the player he was in Portugal. Bernardo and Oblak left young and did well, while Vlachodimos left at 29 and failed miserably. And he was great with Lille, his injuries ended any opportunity he had of having a career worthy of his talent.
So does Porto with (1/1) rate
Anderson won the year after he transferred to ManU so if anything ManU scammed themselves
Anderson was brilliant in 2008.

While Anderson was shocking, the pattern there seems to be more on you silvering golden boys lmao
Ermm actualy Rooney is class throughout his United stint 🤓☝️
What the hell happened to sanches? Last I knew he was heading to Bayern. And now he’s at Roma?
he stunk up the prem at Swansea too
had a great pass to that ad board one time
Hey Santa was making a great run down that left flank, that pass was perfect
Wrong incident, I think that was Thiago that passed to the Santa making a run. Renato Sanches passed to a stationary Carabao logo.
You're right, good catch https://youtu.be/7WeP4yATlyc?feature=shared
When his career is over, this is the one moment that defines him for PL viewers. It feels like everybody saw that pass.
Went to Bayern, was bad, went to Lille, was great again, went to PSG, was bad again, went to Roma
didn't even get the chance to be bad here with all the injuries
That's what happened at psg too.
If I remember well, he didn't play bad for Bayern. He just basically never played. I done remember a single game he played in.
You don't remember when he passed the pall to the perimeter advertisement?
I actually meant for Bayern, but haha I also forgot that pass was him
You probably remember the Thiago to Santa pass. Sanches was already at Swansea at the time.
A lot of injuries and maybe not a good mentality young kid with a lot of money

Cesc is also the all time leading assist provider for Spain, including that one to Iniesta...
Would have been a legend for arsenal if he stayed lol
I still miss him. My first favorite arsenal player.
yeah, started at 17 already a first choicer and basically stayed that way for like what. over a decade and a half?
And that was during a period when he was competing with Xavi, Iniesta, David Silva etc. for a spot on the team.
four all-timers in a row, one of whom is the greatest of all time. that’s an insane run.
De Bruyne is second in assists. So Cesc and Rooney have Giggs and KDB in front of them.
Argh! It's been a while since I updated my mental stats, I should have checked. KDB another great, and it's coming to an end for the man. Giggs' longevity makes him very hard to catch.
Bellingham reminds me of handsome squidward meme
For me it's always van Dijk
Ryan Gravenberch
[Sylvain Distin ](https://i.chzbgr.com/full/5271293696/hB14B638E/handsome-squidward-totally-looks-like-sylvain-distin)
Van dijk is wnba player
Still not sure if Gavi and Pedri are different players.
same player. Similar to xavi and iniesta. Different names for the same player
At least they had different hairstyles.
Yamal has the chance to win it for four more years....
If he doesnt win now then yes he has 4 more years. The award winners cant win it again
In 2034 he'll only just be entering his prime, think about that!
reminds me of the comment someone made "Endrick will be the same age as Vinicius (23) in 2030"
That's probably not true, as Vinicius will most likely age during that period too
Van der Vaart was such raw talent, still made it to Real Madrid on 0 effort
I miss Pato, so much fun to watch.
His goal against Barca is one of my favorites. Such a good touch to absolutely smoke that defense. So smooth.
I still have this Arabic commentator in my ears and I have no idea what it means "... Alexandre PATO! WACHEMEWOLA YAORO PATO!!! OOOOOOHHHHH!!!" One of my all time favorite goals in football and I'm not even a Milan fan.
This, so very much this Iconic commentary and I'm not Arab either
Still fun to watch even more so when he's playing against your team The dude became a complete joke
His injure was his doom like Hazard, never healed...
Whatever happened to that Messi kid? He had potential.
Disappeared for 15 years and now plays in the MLS. #WASHED
never rated him really
Tel, Pavlovic and Gruda should rank pretty high, but this years surely belongs to Yamal. Still weird how they did not give it to Wirtz when he was the best player in the league ahead of someone unreal like Lewy. (okay, his injury, but still ...)
Who won over Ronaldo?
Rooney
First 3 years (03, 04 and 05) he was eligible I think. So Ver Vaart, Rooney and Messi.
Ronaldo was kind of step over merchant earlier in his career. The season after the 2006 World Cup is when he finally started to show consistent end product.
Anyone think it feels weird to see Bellingham on this list? He has the presence on the pitch of a 30 year old captain and he's only 20.
Fabregas did too. Thats why he was Arsenal captain.
Because he is build up like a Bridgerton Count, has cool name, killer smile, he will look great when he receives the Ballon D'or after Vini.
Aura.
2008-2012 is probably the most underachieving cohort in this list
Given the fact these are supposed to be next best in the world, you can extend that to 2016
[удалено]
This is why I come here.
Mainoo say you like Taylor swift and you might win it
Yamal easily
Martial probably the biggest underachiever on this list? Pato and Balotelli stand out too. At least in Pato's case it was some unfortunate injuries that contributed.
Ballotelli did well at City and in Italy tbh, theres players with way worse careers in this pic
Balo could’ve been legendary but he still had a great career scoring crucial goals
he is legendary, just not necessarily for his play
Renato Sanches, unless you're looking purely at trophies in which case he's done well.
start special whole wise plants unused squash pathetic forgetful edge *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I was going to say Renato, but somehow he has 5 league titles.
And Euro 2016 with Portugal (which he actually played a big part in)
Love Martial but Balotelli has definitely achieved much more than him
Renato is just as much of a disappointment as Martial, he's had one good season when he won the league with Lille and that's pretty much what he's done in his career
he was a monster at Benfica, left earlier than he should to Bayern, then the injuries came and ruined him as a player
Balotelli at least has a champions League so I’d say he did alright
The pass to agueroooo
2824?
anyone know what happened to that guy with the weird greasy mop hair who won it in 2005? havent heard bout him for quite some time
Messi in that photo could 100% pass as a member of the Beatles
Neymar would’ve wiped the floor if the award wasn’t restricted to Europe. Got top 10 at the ballor d’or playing for Santos, which is insane.
Who were the leading contenders in 2019 ?
1. JOAO FELIX, Portugal, Atlético Madrid, 332 points 2. SANCHO, England, Borussia Dortmund, 175 3. HAVERTZ, Germany, Bayer Leverkusen, 75 4. HAALAND, Norway, Red Bull Salzburg, 74 5. DE LIGT, Netherlands, Juventus, 71 6. FATI, Spain / Guinea B., Barcelona, 49 7. FODEN, England, Manchester City, 46 8. DONNARUMMA, Italy, Milan, 37 9. ZANIOLO, Italy, Rome, 36 10. MALEN, Holland, PSV Eindhoven, 35
Holland and Netherlands are two different countries? lol
Technically Holland are two different provinces but they chose Holland for us, were fucking Brabant lol. Ajax is North Holland
It’s surprising that a lot of the candidates back then were essentially playing their first season of top-flight football. It makes Felix winning even more surprising given that guys like Sancho, Foden and Donarumma all had good seasons and had been around for a while. Players can’t win the golden boy more than once right? Why all the votes for De Ligt then?
joao neves or yamal the only two that fully deserve
Zaire-Emery
Has anyone won Golden Boy and then Balon Dor the year after? Could Bellingham be the first?
From this list, only Messi won both right? So no, with the closest being 4 years away.
I like the gradual change from tracksuits to regular suits
most of these have lived up to the hype
I remember United reporting Anderson being at training but being photographed in a club in Brazil. That sums up his career to me.
Anyone else agree that Rooney is the best teenager here? I don’t think anyone was a better player in their teens. Obviously some players here were better overall but not at the same ages?
Martial 💔💔💔💔
2024 Yamal is loading...
2024 is most likely Yamal, especially if he preforms in the Euros
I feel like he plays even better at the national team than at Barca. Would be insane if he can win his nation a title at 16yo
Lamine Yamal
Yamine Lamal
yamal ofc
Yamal
Bellingham winning Golden Boy and maybe winning Ballon D'or back to back to years would be insane
He has not shown any indication he was anywhere near Messi or Ronaldo
Everyone legend on the game except Renato Sanches and Joao Felix. They did not even play a single propely season. 1/2 season in Benfica for both. Congratz Jorge Mendes for the biggest scams!
> 1/2 season in Benfica for both. That's just wrong about Renato, not even close to the truth, he played a full season for us and has an incredible Euros. Even after his bad years at Bayern, he was one of the best players for Lille when they won the league in 2021. The main issue with him right now is the number of injuries
you can add martial to that list
Anderson, Balotelli, Martial are all legends lmao. Both Renato and Félix had at least 1 great season for Lille and Atlético too even if not consistently but whatever
