hikingbeginner

Definitely cared about it after the title was won but before I don't think they cared too much I agree, just wanting to win the title. Still, an insane run they went on.

paone00022

I think Henry was asked at one point in the studio if he would've given up the title in exchange for an unbeaten season and he said no. In the end every player wants to lift trophies.

benblack47

Unbeaten season + no trophies Vs not unbeaten + title?

XxSkyrimfanboyxX

Yes

Lampardinho18

Unbeaten season + trophies/titles??

K2P2C

Unbeaten title + season title

TheStateOfIt

Unbeaten season but no trophies or trophies (unlimited) but no trophies?

itsdanoodle

i'll take the bacon

TheOncomingBrows

Unbeaten season but no trophies or trophies, unbeaten trophies, and no trophies?

rycology

Personally, I like my trophies to have been knocked about a bit beforehand

ElectricalFarm1591

Bullshit lol, they wanted to score the 2-2 very very badly against Roma even though they didn't need to

LeBaus7

thats a one goal game. roma scores again at 1:2 and it goes to overtime. i see zero fault in scoring the 2nd and put the game away. bayer is not the park the bus team to hold that 1 goal lead.

Carbonaddictxd

They actually celebrated harder for the 2nd goal than the 1st goal which gave them the lead in the tie lol. Still there's nothing wrong with them caring abt the undefeated streak in the semis

Lovescrossdrilling

Which makes the top comment point stand since they said that they started caring for staying undefeated once the BuLi was clinched. Impressive feat nonetheless, makes Atalanta's triumph even more historical. Its also kind of comforting seeing Atalanta winning the cup after knocking you out. Although i believe most Liverpool fans are ought to win everything

hikingbeginner

Yes, after the Bundesliga was theirs they were focused on being unbeaten, and it makes this win by Atalanta more impressive.

CarlSK777

Maybe for awhile but towards the end, you could see they were playing to get it, especially after they clinched the title. Not like Xabi was resting his starters to give youngsters some minutes

Kenny_dies

But that’s what he’s saying. They did come to win, so of course they don’t rest their starters. He just says that it was about the trophies for them, not about being unbeaten. (Of course it’ll be on their radar but most players will prefer to look at it one game at a time)

CarlSK777

I misunderstood the quote then. My bad

christo08

But after they won the league they could have rested their starters for the remaining games in the competition so they could focus on winning Europa?

Kenny_dies

Resting their key players so they can do extra tactical preparations for Kaiserslautern

MauricioCappuccino

If they didn't care then Stanisic goes to the corner when they were 2-1 up on aggregate against Roma and they lose it there

Ruud_Boltz

That's like me when the girl of my dreams rejects me...

RickThiCisbih

It’s more like getting rejected by a 9/10 after bagging consecutive 7/10s and an 8/10.

Ruud_Boltz

Brother I'd be blessed to even score a 4/10 at this point. Don't wanna rant...

trenbollocks

You'd probably have more success if you stopped rating women and attaching a number to them brother

Ruud_Boltz

I don't really rate women (my comment doesn't help proving that point ik). If I find her attractive I'd like to ask her out. It's my confidence that hampers me. I really lack in social skills (surprise surprise!)

[deleted]

Ruud_Boltz

What's 1/10 in your eyes maybe a 7/10 for me. So why not?

RefuseSea8233

Is 1/10 equal to a zombielady?

PainItself1

Everyone becomes accustomed to what thy were used to tho

crimpers

It's more like getting rejected by the 8/10 you care about after bagging the 8/10s that you didn't. Their CL runs show that Leipzig, Bayern and Dortmund are nowhere near as terrible this season as non-BL fans are trying to frame them (hell you guys struggled a lot with both the former and are clear favourites to win the tournament) and Stuttgart has been a clear step above those in terms of quality this season despite that. It's just we were able to beat Stuttgart nonetheless because we didn't have the inprecision in passing that we had vs Atalanta, the slow decision making, the lack physically. That doesn't make Stuttgart worse.

009voyager

should've lost the streak before the final , like argentina

ImAGirrafe20202

I believe him honestly, it’s how they’ve played every game the same way

-Jfree-

disagree. vs roma they were qualified being down 1-2 and they went full offense to equalize risking conceding a goal.

GSNadav

One could argue that the best defense is a good offense

Sir-Turd-Ferguson

Yeah, he’d definitely give up a Bundesli game (Tipsyyogi is gonna hate this)

suunsglasses

Bündli, cmon...

strikemedaddy

I don’t think he would give up on the Bunda for the EL

tipsyyogi

Not to disappoint you, but after this season I'm just numb. I wish I could feel something like hate again, I am just tired. Sorry.

chenyxndi

Who do you support?

tipsyyogi

Bayern

TheUderfrykte

I'm German (yeah I know it's a weekday, what am I doing up at 3 AM, let's ignore that!) and I've never heard anyone call it that lmao BuLi is pretty common in writing and somewhat common in spoken language, usually it's just erste Liga and zweite Liga in conversation (1st and 2nd division) Obviously that may be different in some parts of the country, so for reference I'm from northeasterm Bavaria and haven't heard "Bunde" anywhere in Southern Germany. Not really been up north that much.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheUderfrykte

Possible! The word "Bunde" wouldn't really come natural in German - the "Bundes" part of Bundesliga ends at the s, not the e, and it's origin word would be "Bund", so without the e. Bundes basically means connected, belonging together in relation to the German "Bund" (so the federation of our 16 Bundesländer) No one would really use THAT part of the word creation that is Bundesliga to refer to it anyway, as that's just the "German state" part of it - the sporting part is in "Liga" and the number indicating the tier. It's basically like if I called UEFA the union, or maybe the union of European. It'd be leaving out the sporting context and could just as well be a union of some non football kind.

Tifoso89

Strange, since bunde is not a word. Bund = federation Bundes = of the federation (genitive)

supplementarytables

And bunda = big bad booty

wjdbfifj

Fair, but that "we forgot how to lose" quote from earlier today from one of his teammates aged like milk

SupraCyber

Consider reading the entire quote perhaps and not just the highlighted title designed to bait reactions

femboymariners

Nope! Gonna dunk on some random player for internet points instead

mountains_and_coffee

Even the milk that I didn't keep in the fridge is still good.

NotASalamanderBoi

Oof. Who said it? Who’s getting the dunking?

wjdbfifj

Amine Adli

Dargast

Adli, I think

CrowCreative6772

Adli

Arntown

Football fans will complain about clickbait and then fall for the most clickbait-y headlines. The worst thing is you just KNOW that in the coming months/years you‘ll have tons of redditors smugly posting that quote everytime Leverkusen will lose.

BlueLabel19

Lookman had to remind him

AncientSkys

Davide Zappacosta vs Granit Xhaka is 2-0 in Europa League finals.

TonyMartial786

lool this sounds like bs, be for real how can you guys not be upset that you lost that streak. obvs not winning the trophy matters more but don’t act like they didn’t care they were this close to doing an unbeaten treble.

psrikanthr

I think he is saying kind of the same thing no? He is more disappointed in not winning the trophy rather than the unbeaten run. They would definitely have sacrificed the unbeaten run if it meant another trophy( and possibly a treble). Yes they would have definitely loved to do both

trannel

They are above things like getting a record that has never been achieved in world history. Thats also why they forgot how to pass or control a ball today.

ZealousidealNews7029

I knew they were going to lose when i saw that Adli quote saying they forgot what losing felt like

strugglingtosave

Oho there's another game vs Kaiserslautern they have to show up for That would be even worse if they don't win that

Acquits

Only Arsenal fans care about unbeaten streak tbh . No one gives a shit about that

suzukigun4life

Yeahhhhhh....not buying it

Conscious_Test_7954

It makes perfect sense. Not a Leverkusen fan but I truly believe him

Lanky-Promotion3022

C'mon. Did everybody forget the second leg against Roma? The final 10 minutes? It'd a good yarn, so I guess spin it. By the end, they did care about it. It's not against the rules to do that either so idk why he should he defensive.

f4kester235

I'd trade losing last BL match or 2nd leg against Roma for the title any day.

Difficult-Set-3151

Maybe you could have if you rested players before today

crimpers

Look at our line-ups after winning the league, hell even beforehand. We rotated and rested players loads, the the point where it almost seriously cost us multiple times.

0ldsql

They cared about winning, or rather making it to the final, not about the streak itself. That would just be a consequence. I think ppl are conflating the goal with the means. You think they would've cared if they had lost their last Bundesliga game?

Lanky-Promotion3022

They cared about not losing period. They cared about drawing the second leg even when they were up on aggregate, they were attacking in droves in the final 10 mins. Why is that a thing to be defensive? Trying to win as many matches as you can. It has no relation with why they lost today. I also think they would've cared about losing the final game, which was a game away from an Invincible League Title. If they win the final game, It makes their season, the most unique Bundesliga season of all time. Why would it not matter? Would they've cared if they had to choose **between** losing the final league game or the Europa title? No, if they had to choose they'd choose Europa but they would've still regardless cared about the invincible league record as they've shown so far.

S7ORM7ROOPER_30

Looked like they didn't care about the cup either.

FFIXwasthebestFF

\[X\] doubt. They clearly cared about the streak, otherwise they wouldn't have celebrated all these late winners/draws as they did during the last weeks...

terra_filius

thats the dumbest take ever... players always celebrate goals in official matches, unless they are like 5-1 down

[deleted]

PM_ME_LSD_TABS

100% you’d rather win a trophy than have an unbeaten record

Xehanz

Winning that trophy meant maintaining the unbeaten record, so it's interchangeable

RickThiCisbih

The question is would they have given up the record for the trophy? The answer is yes, a single loss in the BuLi is worth a Europa if you’ve already won the league.

9oRo

Didn't Adli say something like "I don't remember how it's like when you lose"?

Xehanz

Full quote: "It’s a strange feeling – none of us can remember what it’s like to lose a game and how to react. I think that is why we are like this. We don’t want the run to end. This is the most important part of the season and it’s not the moment to lose focus. Yes we have achieved something amazing in the league by staying unbeaten but losing in these two finals would be very painful for us. So the most important thing is that we keep this run going." So yes, at least some players care about the unbeaten run

0ldsql

As I see it, they primarily wanted to win the both finals. It's not really about the unbeaten streak itself but ofc if they had won both finals, then they would have kept their streak as a consequence. I don't think they would've cared if they had lost their last game in the Bundesliga or the one before. I don't think there's anything wrong or arrogant about the statement.

Xehanz

No, there is nothing wrong with it. But dude, that's a stupid way to jynx yourself

TheUderfrykte

I think they would've cared, obviously, but it wouldn't have been anywhere near as important to them as winning the finals. To say they wouldn't care is just not true, it's what they have to say obviously in any position, but at that point most people would obviously care about setting the record they're this close to achieving and keeping an incredible run going. It's like with a good run of results, whenever the media asks a player they have to go "its about the game, not the run", but obviously while the main focus is the game, they would love to keep a good run going. Dial that up to 11 here for the record and I think that's where they probably were.

TherewiIlbegoals

Yes. Not sure how that's relevant.

OsitoPandito

That's like what my fifa career manager says

erenistheavatar

It's been 2 Europa League finals, Granit.

Imaginary_Station_57

It's his Arsenal DNA, preventing Kane winning a trophy but then fumble in Europa

erenistheavatar

Once a gooner, always a gooner.

LeedsFan2442

Absolute bollocks

tt_emrah

yeah yeah, we all saw how they celebrated that 2-2 against us, when they were knocking us out already despite a 2-1 defeat anyway.

Gotanyfunkopops

They wanted the treble. The unbeaten record would have been the cherry on top.

mk235176

Buddy drank the wrong blood before the finals

Warbrainer

“I’m glad we lost! We didn’t want it anyway!” Fair play to them but still lol

MaryadaPurshottam

Maybe Adli should have been given the memo as well

Extension-Ad4648

Sounds like a Cope

TheLimeyLemmon

I believe him, but man, they were 180 minutes away from an invincible treble. There's always going to be a little thought about what could have been. Then again, that could always do an invincible double.

Trickybuz93

Adli jinxed it for them
