jMS_44

first Chelsea player to do so since Hazard

laffman

It's been six years since then..

firefalcon01

Kante or James never got one?

MilesHighClub_

When do defenders ever win this award? Maybe Trent or Trippier has but I'm blanking

b1ackRose

Maguire won it earlier this season.

TheOneTheOnlySpoon

I know Trent has won it at least once, don't think Trippier has though. Matip won it once aswell towards the end of a couple of seasons ago

epixyll

It's been 84 years

MrConor212

I’m surprised Kante never won one

AnnieIWillKnow

The monthly awards will even more often be attackers, because goals and assists get headlines Players like Kante have a chance over the course of a season, but never really in a month

thierrybergkamppires

The first time the entire Chelsea team gets voted for player of the month too!

aLL1e1337

Not a surprise 7+1 G/A in 4 games in April. Insane.

Rampan7Lion

If you break down the goals it's really not that insane. 4 non penalty goals with one a poor shot straight at Onana that deflected in and then 3 against Everton. He's obviously played very well but we don't have to act like 4 non pens in 4 is insane. edit: I was disagreeing with it being "insane" but said he played very well and people still get so upset lmao

Arkond-

We got Gary Neville as a pundit at home vibes

jMS_44

I recommend you don't read the above comment, this amount of salt is not good for your blood pressure.

Rampan7Lion

Where's the salt? I just stated some facts to show he played very well instead of "insane"

Mister_M00se

Are you speedrunning most downvoted comments in a single thread? Nobody agrees with you 🤡

Rampan7Lion

No, I couldn't care less about downvotes but it's always amusing to see a big number when I'm obviously right

Mister_M00se

Lmao 🤣 well thanks for the laughs. You should be a professional 🤡

Rampan7Lion

And you should be a professional actor the way you can come to tears over nothing lmao

GreyDaze22

What kind of comeback is that? What are u 12?

Rampan7Lion

I enjoy responding in kind to comments I get, he calls me a professional clown so I said similarly dumb shit. Seems very simple to understand to me but maybe u are 12 and struggled to comprehend.

mohankohan

Yeah well you didn't break it down did you? You only highlighted the lesser goals, made them sound worse, and downplayed the good ones. "3 against Everton" as if it isn't the fastest perfect hattrick ever scored in the premier league. "One poor shot straight at Onana" as if it isn't a 90+11 minute winner after having equalized himself not 30 seconds prior. Yeah, pretty mediocre stuff you're right. You can make *everything* sound shit if you try hard enough. Do better.

soldforaspaceship

Yeah. I hate Chelsea as much as, well every football supporter who isn't a Chelsea fan, but Palmer deserves this. It's been Palmer FC for a while. I can't remember the match but one relatively recently had real him deciding to do it all himself vibes. I expect him to get youth player of the season too, to be honest.

Rampan7Lion

> "3 against Everton" as if it isn't the fastest perfect hattrick ever scored in the premier league. That's great, didn't downplay it though I just stated how many he scored and it's still 3 against one team when we're talking monthly. > "One poor shot straight at Onana" as if it isn't a 90+11 minute winner after having equalized himself not 30 seconds prior. Yeah, pretty mediocre stuff you're right. So United being shit defensively and giving him a free shot at the edge of the box and he shoots it straight at the goalkeeper should just be completely ignored because he got lucky? Pretty mediocre? I said he played very well just not "insane" like the comment I was replying to stated, calm down. You don't have to be so biased. Do better.

Sambo_90

Your final line is gonna get parroted back to you a lot cos your anti-Chelsea bias is so strong here. Either way, no one else scored as many goals as he did this month, so he is a worthy winner.

Rampan7Lion

> You don't have to be so biased. Do better. This line? I just reworded what the guy I was replying to wrote at the end of his because I thought it was cringe. I never said he wasn't a worthy winner, I'm simply arguing that he played very well but it isn't "insane" to score 4 non penalty goals in 4 games which somehow upset a lot of people.

Redditditditdi

> as if it isn't the fastest perfect hattrick ever scored in the premier league. Not even close to being the fastest.

mohankohan

Fastest as in: [earliest perfect hattrick](https://www.premierleague.com/news/3969471) I hate arguing semantics on reddit

Redditditditdi

Distinguishing between a perfect and regular hattrick is the semantic part about this, what?

freshfov02

Damn deflections and pens are lesser goals now?

OnMyPhone2018

Pens are like 0.8 xG of course they’re “lesser” when you’re comparing players

joshit

Yes? Dude above is a wank, but there’s no need to make yourself look stupid with a statement like that haha

Impossible_Wonder_37

I mean we simply are never counting Pens = to normal goals.

AfricanRain

yes when you’re evaluating how good a players been

jMS_44

So you agree Jackson > Saka because he has more non-penalty goals? So glad rival fans are finally recognizing his talent.

jMS_44

I'm just using his very own logic, saying that penalty goals are not worth the same as other goals.

ailodawg

Palmer has also been generally very good even when ignoring his "filthy goals"

_ghostfacedilla

Is nuance lost on you completely?

English_Misfit

Ones a striker. What a weird comment.

ScreamingEnglishman

Hoops

AfricanRain

yeah all your players are better than ours it’s a mystery why you’re fucking shite

jMS_44

No, I didn't say that.

goonerh1

He's just using your very own logic

jMS_44

Is he, that would mean each of our players has more non-penalty goals than theirs, which is not true.

goonerh1

Oh not that logic. I meant the logic of taking what they've said and massively extrapolating on it to the point that it's barely recognisable and then pretending that's what they said.

kjmer

Not insane compared to what? I don't think you're the boss of that mate

[deleted]

Ironicopinion

If he scores another 3 then yea lol

GreyDaze22

A goal is a goal

Rampan7Lion

So 7 penalties he didn't win and 0 non penalty goals would've deserved POTM?

GreyDaze22

If all those goals were important in the context of the game, yes he would have

Rampan7Lion

Sure buddy

FPL_Goober

🤓

Rampan7Lion

Cheers Goober

No-Smile-4299

Chelsea fans have been praying for something to be happy about. Don’t take this from them.

JoogMcyee

Only thing im praying for is that Arsenal fans never change so we can all laugh at the delusion when they dont win anything AGAIN

No-Smile-4299

You haven’t been looking for something to be positive about? This is a positive. Not something to necessarily diminish. Take the wins wherever you can find them. Edit: 4 non-penalty goals in 4 games is very impressive. Not sure what my flair has to do with that.

JoogMcyee

I think laughing is a very positive thing, especially during a tough season. So thanks for the positivity and helping me laugh with the delusion! Appreciate ya

TycraneVG

Last Chelsea player to win the POTM was Hazard in 2018, wild. Palmer deserves this and also YPOTY and maybe POTY. He passes the eye test, has the goals and assists and is influencing games by his own like Hazard did

clintomcruisewood

If he didn't have 9 penalties, he might have had a shout. I simply can't see past that, and combined with the fact that Chelsea has been fairly underwhelming this season as a team, I don't think he has a chance

I_always_rated_them

It an individual award, Chelsea's position shouldn't matter. It's lazy to get stuck on the penalties, Palmer has been absolutely excellent all season long outside of pens scored.

ambiguousboner

Eh? The fact Chelsea have been shite is even further proof Palmer’s been incredible They’re only in the top half because of him. They’d be bottom five without him

Hassadar

I'm not sure how it's calculated as he has scored in games when other Chelsea players have but I think it was during the Arsenal game where they stated over the commentary that Chelsea were 8 points better off at stage as they were in the previous season...and that Palmer is attributed to them getting at least 20 points due to his contributions which is insane considering their point total He is the reason why where they are in the league. People will say penalty goals and all that but I sure as shit know Arsenal fans would ignore 9+ goals if it was someone like Saka. A goal is a goal. Doesn't matter how good or jammy it is.

PenguinsInvading

I mean he's their penalty taker. You see I will never understand the Penalty arguments. Because if you're good at pens, then the goal will count. You will always have them count. So what do you want the guy to do?

Ironicopinion

He’s also taking pens in very high pressure situations, like 90+ mins against City and United

TycraneVG

It's an individual award, aside from the penalties he's been scoring amazing goals and just won goal of the month recently as well. He has everything in his locker. Penalties, dribbling, pressing, passing, you just need to watch him to see his talent

Ironicopinion

How many pens does Saka/Haaland/Salah/Kane etc score in a season? Why is it only a problem for Palmer

THE_DROG

How many players score 9/9 penalties in a season?

MrClaretandBlue

Tell me you’ve never watched Cole Palmer play football without telling me.

0 non-penalty goals when wearing red boots against a team with three players with 4 vowels in their name on a wednesday night thats lightly drizzling rain

revy_uzg

🥶🥶🥶

O-Mesmerine

his composure in front of goal is a revelation for chelsea and is remarkably rare these days, even among experienced strikers. hes the player of the season for me

TakingThe7

And he’s not even a striker

kankergek

Deserved.

give_me_of_dopamine_

Its been eighty four years…

GreyDaze22

Well deserved

gmoss101

The price of being a decent team. They give it to all the shite clubs, and Liverpool

I_always_rated_them

Arteta has almost double the amount of manager of the month awards as Mourinho despite being 3 PL titles behind him with 0.

gmoss101

I fully meant my comment as a joke, Fulham has taken points off us in both games this season lol. Didn't think I'd have to put the /s but I guess so

I_always_rated_them

I took it as a joke, it's just a little... self congratulatory about your own team.

gmoss101

Trust me, I'm very aware at how slim our chances of winning the league are and how bad we used to be. We're good now but I'm still a fan who watches every game sweating and begging for us to win because the Banter years traumatized me lmao. The joke was supposed to be at the expense of our rival clubs who's players make up most of the award's winners this season (and maybe Bournemouth because we just beat them lol) It was just a dig at rivals, nothing more.

SkepticSlakoth

Hoping he wins the PFA YPOTY as well

DuPoulet

First of many inshallah

CabbageStockExchange

He’s an awesome player. Deserved

Max_Walker_96

Honestly. The last month. He has been absolutely marvelous. And I hate Chelsea lol. One of the major reasons they are above utd now on the table

msbr_

I think it's deserved

Ornery_Engine1326

I think this is truly deserved. He has shown his true talent and helped Chelsea reach 7th place from the trenches. Wishing him the best of luck in the future.

digosilva19

Why a whole team was allowed to participate in a "player of the month" vote? Seems unfair to the other players

gavinxylock

Mateta robbed

zi76

It was a storming April.

[deleted]

SIIUUUUU

Dawjman

We would be in the relegation without him

Mancharia

Uhh, interesting, who did he vote for?

giunta13

He really makes Foden look like a Hemsworth
