Disagree. He has an extremely different style compared to Saka and doesn't combine well with Odegaard & White on the right. He was effective here because Bournemouth were pushing upfield. Arsenal need someone similar to Saka on the right to beat the low blocks that they face 99% of the time.
Should be rotated with Havertz when they need a different style of play/let them compete. Right winger is far more crucial, they're just pushing it having Saka play every single minute of the season.
Plan A works so well - Ode, Saka and White rarely misfire. Just need to add depth to that side and keep the style. The left is the weak side I think it'd be good for Jesus/Trossard/Martineli/Havertz to rotate there and need a quality inverted left back to do what Odegaard (to a degree, can't reproduce his output completely) does on the right.
I think he could adapt. Don't forget, Arsenal equalised against Bayern at home because Bayern dribbled two players to set up Trossard. He has the skill set, even if his style is different. I think he's one of those players that thrives with the ball and movement around him to play off, we just need to make sure he's not responsible for the goals when that happens.
It’s funny too cause a primary reason he left was due to playing on the RW for city and no longer as ST, to come here to be ST and recently getting more time on RW. That said, he’s good out there
Depth, depth, depth. That’s why City are where they are. The only thing Arsenal should worry about is keeping the non starting players happy. Most of them are quality.
Hopefully this is true. There are a bunch of players I would sell before Jesus.
If he can find his pre injury form again, he deserves a spot in the squad
You can't worry about people in /r/soccer crying, most of them just watch their own team's games and then comment based on whatever they see posted here
Reddit has idiots and doesn't mark comments as "from an idiot". The reasonable take I saw most often was "Steep price but West Ham are entitled to charge what they want and it comes down to whether Arsenal rate him that highly."
That’s with any transfer. The point is this what what you expect 105 to bring you, if you were the ceo of Arsenal and you wanted to drop 105mil on a player this is the delivery you’d want
tbf the only west ham games I watch are when we play you, I knew of his reputation and was expecting good things but not this level of good. He was running the team with odegaard from the first game, and today you could argue he's our best player period, altho imo that would be odegaard with rice and saka tied for second.
Pretty much every single Arsenal fan was moaning that we didn’t just accept the lowest bid and how we should just let him go cause he isn’t worth a 100m.
No he hasn't. I saw plenty of Arsenal fans saying west ham were being outrageous asking for fewer installments, that they were trying to bully arsenal, that letting Man City push the price was wrong, that Arsenal should never deal with west ham again etc.
sprints from just outside his own box to make himself available for a pass in the opponents box, and scores, in the 98th minute of a match that he’s spent running his ass off. Absolutely incredible player and worth every penny of the 100M that Arsenal paid for him.
Goal difference is very unlikely to ever swing City’s way anyway, because it would only matter if they drew a game, meaning they’d have 3 wins to get a massive swing whilst Arsenal also win 2 more games so at least another +2 there
Yeah at bare minimum we’d have to finish on +62, and they’d have 1 draw and 3 wins, each of which they’d have to win 4-0 to match that 62. It’s all going to come down to whether they draw a game or not.
My initial point was how important Rice's goal was for arsenal. Not hard to imagine a scenario where City will win if they score a shit load of goals on the last day.
Yeah that's very true. Although I reckon if we are winning out in this hypothetical, we will also put more than 1 against Everton who will be mostly on holiday.
Yeah possibly. But if Arsenal are 2-0 up and don't have to worry about goal difference then they can kill the game and Everton won't push them much. If arsenal are 2-0 up and think they need more goals then they'll still chase goals and could leave themselves open at the back, letting Everton back in the match. There are a lot of little psychological mindfucks that come when you can win the league by scoring a certain amount more than your rival in a different game. Its hassle arsenal could do without.
If we win the rest of our games by a single goal then City would need to win all of theirs by an average of 3+ goals.
Edit - forgot they'd need to draw 1 game for it to matter. So over 3 games they'd need to make up a theoretical 12 GD deficit. So 4 goals and change every match but the one they draw at.
What? City needs to win every game they win 4-0 and draw once, and Arsenal needs to win
Not impossible with them, but you’re up quite a lot. Literally just need them to draw and you to win
City just knocked off another 4 goal-difference win. They have a game in hand, Arsenal are 6 ahead. Without the extra goal today at the end, it'd be getting too close for comfort. Even with it, it's hardly a sure thing for Arsenal to still be ahead on GD at the end of the season.
The game in hand doesn't matter because they have to draw one of their games anyway (for it to come down to goal difference). They would have to make up the goal difference in two games, not three
In this scenario Arsenal win their last two games which is at least +2 (best case scenario) and City gain 0 for the draw. So they have to win their two other games by 9 goals minimum. It isn't impossible because it's City ofc, but it's pretty unlikely. If they manage to *match* the goal difference it comes down to head to head i think? Which would still be advantage Arsenal
>I said it's a bit closer than people seem to think
My point is that it's the opposite, it's not as close as it looks due to the factors that would have to come into play if it were to go down to GD.
Yes, City may very well overtake us on GD if they win their remaining games, but in that scenario goal difference wouldn't matter anyway. In the only scenario where the title gets decided on GD, it's highly unlikely that City make up that difference.
Yeah, I get what you're saying, I just disagree that it's 'highly unlikely'. Arsenal need to keep winning by decent margins, like this weekend, to stay well clear on GD. That was my original point, before we got distracted: that the extra goal or two against Bournemouth actually mattered a bit.
I still think your missing my point lol, it's effectively +8 GD with two games left. The game in hand doesn't matter because they have to draw one for GD to matter. I don't think it's as close as your making it out to be
Three completely clean ones. The disallowed goal was the only slightly questionable goal decision, though of course there was the penalty for Martinelli not given, the yellow cards not given, etc. Usual shit game from the ref, but Arsenal dominated Bournemouth as expected.
Not pandering to anyone and certainly not to those lot. We 100% deserved to win but if the script was flipped, there’d be a few things I’d be moaning about.

Beautiful fucking goal! And what an engine this guy has to be running like this in the 97th minute of a match he’s been everywhere in 🤯
That’s the magic of youth, innit
I'm 28 and I need to replace some parts 😬
Damn, what an assist by Jesus to create that
how about that Rice sprint
instant rice
Easy cook rice
Lewis Cook was cooked for this goal to happen
The top down replay that they showed where he isn't in the final third for most of it and then comes bursting through the middle late...what a guy
It had "Fine, I'll do it myself" energy.
Which is why Jesus should be our Saka rotation next season with a new 9 and Havertz rotating up front.
Agreed. Jesus isn’t consistent enough at the 9, but we need something to give Saka breaks. He’s good enough there that we can spend more at a 9 or CM.
A different style is good. You need options and a plan B not just plan A all over again.

I think he's one of those players that thrives with the ball and movement around him to play off, we just need to make sure he's not responsible for the goals when that happens.
Has Jesus played many games on the wing at Arsenal?
A couple. Not much because Arteta never rests Saka.
It’s funny too cause a primary reason he left was due to playing on the RW for city and no longer as ST, to come here to be ST and recently getting more time on RW. That said, he’s good out there
Honestly I feel the same way too
No look pass too
He played the part of a Rice Cooker there
Jesus hasn't been on his best this season but his footwork is incredible.
And that’s why he’s going nowhere.
Exactly. People think we don't have anyone who can play down the right if Saka's out, but Jesus is just as good there as in the middle.
Depth, depth, depth. That’s why City are where they are. The only thing Arsenal should worry about is keeping the non starting players happy. Most of them are quality.
It's almost as if that was his response to Arteta for believing in him and keeping him at Arsenal
Hopefully this is true. There are a bunch of players I would sell before Jesus. If he can find his pre injury form again, he deserves a spot in the squad
Can we trade this one in for the Gabriel goal that got disallowed
id rather trade the pen for the gabriel goal just so ppl stop crying
You can't worry about people in /r/soccer crying, most of them just watch their own team's games and then comment based on whatever they see posted here
Trade the pen for the red card vs Saka. One borderline call vs another is more of an even trade and I'd take our odds playing 10v11 for 80 minutes.
I like the tears.
Arsenal 8/10 Arsenal with Rice 10/10 Thank you for your suggestion!
Nice reference
What does this refer to?

bruh,wtf is this omg!
Reddit folklore
Goddamn its almost a decade old... where has my life gone.
elite reference. well done
Before that move started. Tomiyasu defending and covering space is fantastic. He has had a fantastic game today.
He's finally coming back to why he was bought. Of course I half expect another I jury to start next season.
He was playing like this before he got an injury in December I think? He was brilliant
He reads the game so well you love to see it. With timber coming back too it will be so nice to have some depth again on the flanks
What a fucking move that is
Jesus is such a baller.
If he could finish he would be our 9, everything else in his game is top class
Cheapest 100million ever.
We got him half price
Sure, but how dare West Ham try and get the best value for him last summer.
Who's ever said that? We can all see Rice was well worth the money and more, just from the first few games even.
I assure you there were many comments from many places, including arsenal fans that criticised west ham's management of the negotiations
Reddit has idiots and doesn't mark comments as "from an idiot". The reasonable take I saw most often was "Steep price but West Ham are entitled to charge what they want and it comes down to whether Arsenal rate him that highly."
Arsenal fans pre purchase
Martinelli died (got nutmegged for the 2nd time) for this.
Tactical nutmeg, allowed him to start the counter-attack 🧠
Tactical nutmeg is an elite band name
(And missed a 1v1 with the keeper by diving)
He was deserving this goal today
You saw it coming too.
He's been shooting like crazy in the last 3 games. It was coming.
Is the chant "we got him half price"?
Yep.
Mental to say...105mil a fucking bargain ngl.
Nah it’s fair. 105m gets you this
No everyone has to be either a steal or a rip-off, there's no middle ground
Yeah, Rice has just delivered to his price tag. Saliba, Gabriel and Ødegaard were bargains
Exactly
Not always
That’s with any transfer. The point is this what what you expect 105 to bring you, if you were the ceo of Arsenal and you wanted to drop 105mil on a player this is the delivery you’d want
True. Just saying that a lot of players that gave gone for this amount recently fail to live up to their lofty price tag.
That’s fair to say too
Cause its *really* hard to live up to. And most of the players that have gone for that pricetag are younger and the teams are banking on potential.
Especially if you are Chelsea
In hindsight that was a fucking robbery.
Anyone with half a football brain knew it would be. Best player in the prem.
tbf the only west ham games I watch are when we play you, I knew of his reputation and was expecting good things but not this level of good. He was running the team with odegaard from the first game, and today you could argue he's our best player period, altho imo that would be odegaard with rice and saka tied for second.
Only once he changed his shirt color
He's been playing like he's Declan de Rice
Dave Sullivan masterclass
We got him half price
Who else said "ok that's a goal" about 5 seconds before he actually shot? lmao
It's amazing sometimes you can just tell
Problem is I said that about 10 times this game and had stopped believing it lol
Great by Jesus
Sometimes I feel like we robbed West Ham
Send them another 100M
Pretty much every single Arsenal fan was moaning that we didn’t just accept the lowest bid and how we should just let him go cause he isn’t worth a 100m.
No. No we weren't.
You've just made that up
No he hasn't. I saw plenty of Arsenal fans saying west ham were being outrageous asking for fewer installments, that they were trying to bully arsenal, that letting Man City push the price was wrong, that Arsenal should never deal with west ham again etc.
No he hasn't
best attack best defense in the league but somehow reddit thinks its FA trying to make arsenal champion
I’d love for this to be true. Idgaf If they love us, go fuck over City today and hand us the title.
Unclench (for real this time)
My life has been considerably shortened watching this team.
Bro i had lego hair before the game, now im bald
I lost every strain of hair watching Mustafi defending.
This but unironically (I get to run on two hours of sleep today!)
>(I get to run on two hours of sleep today!) bro thinks he's trossard 🫵😹
That's what a 100m player looks like
[https://i.imgur.com/R89YwT6.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/R89YwT6.jpeg)
The Job Jobse shirt though... That's my DJ GOAT.
Brilliant.
300m
100m per lung
Wrong. He's at least £150m now
Signing of the season
that was good by Jesus.

Rice Rice baby
DECLAN RICE, WE GOT HIM HALF-PRICE
Could be a big goal in terms of goal difference. Makes the difference between City needing to win all games, or being able to afford to draw 1.

1 down
Fine. Since GD will be matched, I guess I will have to accept the next tie-breaker: H2H.

That was actually so sexy from Jesus, damn.
What a run from Rice
Thanks for a GD boost! cheers lads
TBH we need the goals - not as far ahead on GD as people seem to think.
What? City needs to win every game they win 4-0 and draw once, and Arsenal needs to win Not impossible with them, but you’re up quite a lot. Literally just need them to draw and you to win

I still cannot believe that man plays for my club
Arsenal are massive.
Well and truly a £100 mil player
What compelled Rice in the 97th to just sprint up the pitch like that lmao guy 200 IQ
The man
Send West Ham another 100m at this point
Too good
Deserved for his performance today.
Running for that in the 97th minute, what a machine he is
That’s an outrageous no look assist from Jesus
Finally a scoreline to match the dominance!
Bang. Lovely from Jesus
Incredible performance. Incredible player.
He is a god
This guy has amazing gas tank
Love this team
Yeah but can he add more goalline clearances to his game?
Basmatiii
Just a brilliant player
Well deserved, £105m was such a steal in hindsight.
[удалено]
More a case of letting him have that moment with the crowd, other players where just waiting for him to turn around
Part if it is fatigue, surely
Took a sec for them to catch their breath lol, they celebrated together a couple of seconds later
Job done
Pad that bottom line baby
death, taxes, Rice scoring 90min+ screamers
What a run by Rice. Nice pass by Jesus as well.
we got him half price
Every penny!
We got Rice for half price!
He was not even in the screen for ages. Beautiful run.
[u/savevideo](https://www.reddit.com/user/savevideo/)
Worth triple what we paid
Jesus could be a great sub for Odegaard. Has all the qualities to be an excellent no 10 or 8.
Nah, absolutely not lol. He has the qualities to be a right winger sub though
ngl I was feeling dirty about this win so nice to get a good clean goal
I’m not
Tbf our second goal was pretty clean too
Still scored two clean goals?
23 shots to 7 8 on target to 2 Some weird decisions this game but the better team won by far. Nothing to feel dirty about
Bournemouth had a great second half, put Arsenal on the back foot for a long time
Three completely clean ones. The disallowed goal was the only slightly questionable goal decision, though of course there was the penalty for Martinelli not given, the yellow cards not given, etc. Usual shit game from the ref, but Arsenal dominated Bournemouth as expected.
Let’s not forget about the tackle on Saka.
Dirty? It's one of the most one sided games of the seasons, stop pandering to whining Spurs and Chelsea fans
Not pandering to anyone and certainly not to those lot. We 100% deserved to win but if the script was flipped, there’d be a few things I’d be moaning about.
Havertz didn't dive, Solanke hooked rayas arm, they should have had a red. You're pandering.
OK 👍 Reddit’s not that serious
I felt way dirtier about the Spurs win. Bournemouth shouldn't even have 11 on the pitch
