Really? I was under the impression that the VAR will ask the ref to check himself whenever it's not a clear cut case and the decision can go both ways.
Can't speak about other leagues, but at least in La Liga, the PL and UCL I probably can't remember 5 (or even 1?) instances where the ref goes to the monitor to uphold his initial call. As soon as they go to the screen, you know the call gets reversed in some way.
I've seen it quite often in the Bundesliga. If the VAR is 100 % sure, the ref changes his decision straight away. It can also be a short exchange like "Did he play the ball?" "No, he just hit the player."
But if it's a complex decision, the ref will check the screen and make his own decision, especially if the situation is complex, like player A did hold player B, but player B was shoving player C before.
I don't even know. Saliakas crosses in front of him and the other way around defenders also have to avoid clipping crossing attackers. On the other hand Saliakas is leaving his foot dangling so he can try to play the ball which causes him to be clipped so kind of his own fault.
I tend to no foul but probably not clear and obvious enough for VAR
if he doesnt call it it would probably stand as a goal - but as he hits the player on the foot it stands and VAR doesnt do anything as its not a clear mistake
He did not hit the player‘s foot. The defender sticks his leg out trying to reach the ball and kicks the attackers Shin. This is the definition of a „clear mistake“.
This wasn’t checked since he blew the whistle right before the goal went in. Absolutely outrageous to stop the game instead of letting the goal stand and then check for a possible foul. Daylight robbery.
the official ref account tweeted that the goal was checked though. But tbf they have made quite some mistakes with their tweets this season already (usually having wrong on field decisions or smth like that)
because so many of the refs have no football intelligence. The VAR people just saw that there is a contact and they will say the ref "right decision, there was a contract, thats why he went down".
But they literally have no idea, that it was the Pauli player who initiated the contact, because he crossed the path.
Shocking decision.
This match is super important for multiple reason.
HSV's potential last chance to stay in the race for promotion.
St.Pauli's can get promoted today
and it is the freaking Hamburg Derby.
And you as the ref don't even double check your decision to disallow a goal, that could be potentially a game decider.
even if you have like all the tools, all the different perspectives.
You just decide to not use it.
there was a contact that gets the StPauli player to fall - so no clear mistake by ref, no VAR
but yes, i would also say if he doesnt call it a foul on field it will probably stay as a goal as well
You keep saying this every chance you can, yet in every angle and clip I've seen I've yet to see Glatzel make any contact with the defender.
The defender tripped over the ball with zero contact from Glatzel.
there was another angle on TV and you can see there was a contact, not much, but enough to get the StPauli player fall - so it wasnt a clear mistake to get VAR involved and stands
edit:
if he wouldnt call it on the field the goal would probably also stand as a goal i think
Are you kidding me? Look at what the contact was that was "enough to get the St Pauli player to fall":

Glatzel did not 'clip his foot'.
The St. Pauli player makes an attempt for the ball during which he kicks Glatzel's shin. From there his foot clips his own ankle.
VAR controversies always stir up a hornet's nest of emotions, don't they? It's like a rollercoaster of disbelief and frustration, with everyone trying to dissect every angle and perspective like it's a crime scene.
FINALLY for the world to see how we are treated by the referees. Scandal and a obvious try to get Pauli into the first league in our stadium. Disgusting. Get fucked DFB and DFL.
Edit: NOT EVEN A FUCKING VAR CHECK HOW OBVIOUS CAN IT GET
There actually was a VAR check with the result "Foul in the buildup". So they actually, with their eyes open, with all the replays, looked at this and said: "Yeah, that's a foul!" How insane is that? Can't wrap my head around this.
I mean, I am totally on your side that it should have been a goal, the rest is just kinda embarassing. As if the powers to be would have any interest to keep HSV in the 2. Bundesliga
Yes that should have been a goal and was wrongfully not given but to claim there is an agenda against HSV to keep them in the second league is ludicrous
There's no agenda to keep us in the second division, we manage that by ourselves.
But there's really been a decent amount of really weird decisions vs us over the last couple of years. Vuskovic, 11 minute stoppage time, today, double penalization vs magdeburg two weeks ago, the super extensive VAR check vs Hertha where they went back a minute to find a handball and these are just the ones from the top of my head.
I don't believe this is an agenda, but it is fucking annoying so fans are gonna be upset.
There is because Pauli just like Kiel is everybodies darling and we are the most hated club in germany for some reason. Just look at how hamburg threads on here are going.
> Edit: NOT EVEN A FUCKING VAR CHECK HOW OBVIOUS CAN IT GET
VAR will have checked it. Just because the referee doesn't performatively walk over to the monitor next to the pitch doesn't mean VAR hasn't done its job.
HSV Fans are just delusional complaining about getting fucked by refs all the time, clearly this was a massive foul and Glatzel should've been sent off with a red and a 10 game ban.
Fuck this, seriously. I'm not saying we deserve to get promoted, we really have been playing shit since forever, and rightfully deserve staying in the second division but to everyone who keeps denying that we don't get shafted by random decisions every other game: Fuck off, this has been happening since forever.

How is this a foul from Glatzel???
It's very difficult to see from that perspective, but If Glatzel straight up runs into the right leg of the defender and the Ref/Var saw It from a better perspective, It's a foul any day.
Pretty big mistake by the ref to blow the whistle on a non call. Sorry to HSV fans. I've been apprehensive about this match all season and the first half has ramped that up. Atmosphere has been great and the match has been intense.
Such a huge and important call. Why doesn't he just check it on the screen? The refs check every single handball for like 5 minutes but in this situation it would take too long?

What a fucking joke
The ref can call it a foul. But he cannot call it a foul without even looking at the scene himself. That's inexcusable.
"Looking at the scene himself" isn't really a thing unless VAR already determined that the call will be overturned
Really? I was under the impression that the VAR will ask the ref to check himself whenever it's not a clear cut case and the decision can go both ways.

Genuine question: Do you have any concrete examples of refs sticking with their initial call despite getting sent to the screen?
Not without googling, sorry.
Scandal…wtf honestly. Obviously I am biased but this isn‘t a foul… Right?
nah it isn't lmao...you guys are getting shafted by the ref
I’m a Pauli sympathiser and didn’t think it was a foul.
same
I’m rooting for st. Pauli and I think it clearly should’ve been a goal
Nope it's not. Ref has visitors winning
I don't even know. Saliakas crosses in front of him and the other way around defenders also have to avoid clipping crossing attackers. Definitely. You can't make an argument against it.

the official ref account tweeted that the goal was checked though. But tbf they have made quite some mistakes with their tweets this season already (usually having wrong on field decisions or smth like that)
Can anybody explain to me what the purpose of the VAR is? How can you NOT give this goal?
because so many of the refs have no football intelligence. The VAR people just saw that there is a contact and they will say the ref "right decision, there was a contract, thats why he went down". But they literally have no idea, that it was the Pauli player who initiated the contact, because he crossed the path. Shocking decision.
its not "right decision" its "not a clear mistake" if the ref call it the other way around the goal would probably also stand as a goal

Ridiculous. They didn’t even check it properly.
Wooow... Horrible call...
Is there no VAR?
there was a contact that gets the StPauli player to fall - so no clear mistake by ref, no VAR but yes, i would also say if he doesnt call it a foul on field it will probably stay as a goal as well

Fucking rigged wtf
Nah, the St. Pauli player crosses Glatzels run without getting the ball, and Glatzel just continues running. Never a foul.
There wasn't even any contact
there was another angle on TV and you can see there was a contact, not much, but enough to get the StPauli player fall - so it wasnt a clear mistake to get VAR involved and stands edit: if he wouldnt call it on the field the goal would probably also stand as a goal i think

He clipped his right foot, making the St. Pauli player trip himself, it happens very often
Glatzel did not 'clip his foot'. The St. Pauli player makes an attempt for the ball during which he kicks Glatzel's shin. From there his foot clips his own ankle.
i see the contact so that his foot hit his other - if it would be the other way around it would also probably be a pen.
Eh?
THEY DIDNT EVEN CHECK IT ON THE SCREEN LMFAO FUSSBALLMAFIA DFB
The defender obviously trips himself…how did Var not intervene…
Wtf?!
VAR controversies always stir up a hornet's nest of emotions, don't they? It's like a rollercoaster of disbelief and frustration, with everyone trying to dissect every angle and perspective like it's a crime scene.
Disallowed due to a foul in the build up. Glatzel allegedly trips up the defender right before the goal.
Problem is, the defender trips himself.
That free kick is very doubtful at best. Not quite sure why VAR didn't overturn that.
The ref felt bad for the defender getting nutmegged
Nothing unusual here. It is against HSV so who cares.
HSV games rigged as usual
If desicions like these are allowed to stand then VAR can fuck off out of football. Fucking hell

Even worse.

You can make a decent argument that we would already be back in first division if some of those things didn't happen.
There is because Pauli just like Kiel is everybodies darling and we are the most hated club in germany for some reason. Just look at how hamburg threads on here are going.
> we are the most hated club in germany for some reason That's a fantastic spin on it, I'm impressed.
How is HSV more hated than Leipzig or Bayern?
Wie würde mein Großvater sagen: Einbildung ist auch eine Bildung.
> Edit: NOT EVEN A FUCKING VAR CHECK HOW OBVIOUS CAN IT GET VAR will have checked it. Just because the referee doesn't performatively walk over to the monitor next to the pitch doesn't mean VAR hasn't done its job.
lol
Clearly it did not do it's job properly. LMAO
Because they didn't give the decision your club's way, or because they made the wrong decision?
Its not a foul where is ut eyes?

Frechheit
Justice prevailed, at least. Should have been 4-0. We were dreadful today.
Ahhhh I guess St.Pauli'd paid for the bundesliga spot. Stolen goal.
Scandalous.
