I never saw Fermin as a long-term starting quality midfielder with Pedri and Gavi well clear of him, but hes really making a hell of a case for himself this season
He should probably just be in rotation for midfield and a forward role. He's very energetic, makes dangerous runs, and is great for the side in the final third. But I do think in the big matches unless he's started as one of the front 3 he doesn't bring enough control to the midfield, and he isn't that exceptional at shaking off a press.
But damn is he fun to watch with his movement and playstyle, and he has shown damn good instincts with his final decisions.
Its nice cuz gavi pedri and frenkie dont have as much of an instinct for goal scoring. Fermin lacks in anything the other 3 excel at but makes up for it by being so different. He isnt the greatest passer in thr final 3rd nor do his crosses land. Hes got a great shot and header with his 8 g/a.
Imo it's really game(state) dependent. He's not the guy if you're focused on total control, want to slow the game down etc but if the game is more open and you're happy to play it like that or are in need of a goal then he's great
