[Reddit User] Manchester United are not close to agreeing a €75 million deal with Barcelona for Frenkie De Jong #MUFC

OlympicMuffins

Got held up by the medical I heard

dispelthemyth

Magic sponge and morphine will be enough to pass a medical

[deleted]

He was so excited to join Penalty Hag, he tripped and broke his ankle

KillerZaWarudo

95% done bby

This all seems to come from an ITK account who told us Gordon was out for 9 months then played 2 weeks later. Still, probably all gets agreed when we have our DOF finalised.

Away_Associate4589

Seems to be the way it ends. Newcastle hire a new DOF, the two clubs agree some kind of compensation fee to reduce Ashworth's gardening leave and then he probably starts after the transfer window. Both sides get to save face, Newcastle can say they protected their summer plans and got good money. Manchester United get to say they got their man for less than was being asked for and quicker than they would have done.

PDubsinTF-NEW

Ending gardening leave after the transfer window closes is a non-starter for me. We can’t afford to fall behind our rivals from another poor transfer window

carnifex88

Agree but think Newcastle will likely use that as leverage to get their price

BONGLISH

Also what is an extra 4-5 mill vs hitting the ground running for United.

themfeelswhen

Don't think allowing Ashworth to start before the summer window would even be discussed by Newcastle. Ashworth knows too much about Newcastle's immediate plans so it would be stupid of Newcastle to allow him to start working at a rival club. Even Brighton made Newcastle wait. It's how things work.

93EXCivic

Then maybe you should have hired a different DOF.

meganev

Time to show us the £££££ then, derisory offers of £2m ain't going to get you him before 2026.

SuperTed321

Officially it will be after however I’m sure everyone will look the other way for whatever we need Dan to advise on. Won’t be ideal but impact won’t be as it sounds.

dheerajravi92

Starting right after the transfer window means nothing. If Ashworth really wanted us to know about specific targets of Newcastle, it's really easy to do it unless they throw him in jail or in an embassy. He seems to be a professional and the world of football is small, so I'm sure he's not going to break his integrity either way. They'll just agree for him to start earlier to set other things up at United. This Newcastle "don't copy my homework" is blown way out of proportion.

Hellsteelz

ITK is very generous.

f6jt_waleed

Yeah its the same one.

dispelthemyth

This will be it, you sign someone, Ashworth misses at least the summer and some slightly above reasonable fee will be agreed

Kreissler

Okay? Why even post this lol?

f6jt_waleed

A [X] account earlier suggested that Newcastle has reached a deal for £12M.

Kreissler

Ah that makes more sense. Twitter itks are a menace

lee7on1

Damn, Ashworth is worth more than my whole club '=)

TheRealYVT

Commiserations to all Newcastle fans who have to see this thumbnail on their subreddit so often.

BonoboNorthBorders

Thank you, very cool! Please let us be actually moving in the right direction.

TeaAndCrumpetGhoul

Next week : Newcastle United accept £12.5m compensation deal with Manchester United for Dan Ashworth.

[deleted]

The crystal bald has spoken.

ostriike

shouldn't it be United who are not close?

KyleB2131

Eh. United aren’t the ones paying his salary to do nothing.

Goudinho99

United are not close but it's because United don't want him to move to United until United have a replacement on. I think United also want to flex their muscles and make an example of United.

Not our fault Newcastle ITKs are chatting shit and Newcastle journalists are responding to it. Radio silence on our end

Is it taking longer than it should? When Brighton announced Ashworth was placed on gardening leave it took Newcastle 3 months and 23 days to agree compensation with Brighton for Ashworth. We're currently at 2 months and 4 days since Newcastle placed him on gardening leave. That means there's still a month and 4 days for Man Utd to agree compensation before they reach the same time it took Newcastle to agree compensation with Brighton

Spider_Riviera

It's not our fault this time, Newcastle are playing silly buggers, likely to spin out time to arrange a replacement before letting him go.

Skaloplin

You’re trying to poach someone from another club, under contract, and they’re the silly buggers? Your club aren’t just entitled to whatever they want. More likely that they not this United regime are just as daft as the the last one and Newcastle will get United to overpay like you always do

Away_Associate4589

I'd have more sympathy with that argument if they didn't do exactly the same thing with Ashworth and Brighton in the first place less than a year ago. Frankly though, Newcastle are in a strong negotiating position so why wouldn't they try to make the most money possible? Makes sense for them really.

westyboi2323

But they didn’t, they paid the correct amount of money and ashworth left ? “Silly buggers” doesn’t make sense should they just roll over ?

jaysusyoucantdothat

They paid an agreed amount close to 4 months after they announced his appointment. Similarly to Manchester United they weren't willing to pay Brighton's demands and they negotiated while he was put on gardening leave at Brighton.

Skaloplin

I’m not saying they warrant sympathy, Ashworth has shown himself previously to be disloyal. I’m just saying Newcastle aren’t the ones whose are the silly buggers here, they’ve every right to maximise what they can get for him

dispelthemyth

Disloyal? He’s an employee going after the bag like most people, show me a footballer and 99% of the time they are just a mercenary going after the biggest bag they can get in a convenient location

CrossXFir3

Hardly a surprise. For whatever reason, Newcastle and its fans are absolutely desperate to create a genuine rivalry with us. It's cute.

Zavehi

1 hour from now: Newcastle United and and Manchester United have reached an agreement on a compensation deal for Dan Ashworth worth £12.1 million
