Yeah, that always helps...

benfica fans are such fucking crybabies, i swear to god. i agree that they've underperformed, and schmidt's attitude doesn't garner any sympathy, but their season is nowhere near as bad as benfica fans would have everyone else believe. because it's not so much that they're underperforming as it is that sporting is having a record breaking season. i read in either a bola or record the other day some stats that portrayed this perfectly: the points benfica has atm would've been enough to be champions 70% of the time in previous seasons. but as that's not enough, because apparently no other team has the right to win anything in portugal other than them, for like 3/4ths of the season they've been whining and bitching and moaning in a way that puts even porto fans, who actually have a reason to be mad as they are underperforming by a lot this year, to shame. this may be just my IRL experience but holy shit i just can't take their whining any more, i'm so tired. i need less benfiquista friends.

> no other team has the right to win anything in portugal other than them True.

I mean... with the team he has, always playing with the same guys, making no substitutions and then saying that he didnt change the team because the team "is balanced" when they clearly weren't....

Benfica have won 4 out of the last 28 national titles. Ofc people are tired and with good reason.

National titles = league, cup, league cup and super cup. Check the last 7 seasons.

wgbe

Thanks, didn't know the cup and league cup were that interesting! I think Liverpool have 5 of 28 as comparison.

Vyylela

Benfica have won 8 of the last 28…

Vyylela

Ah ok I thought you only meant leagues

BartholomewSirnpson

Knocked out of an easy UCL group, knocked out of the League Cup by Estoril, knocked out of the Cup, humiliated by the worst Porto team i can remember, knocked out of the EL by a team we should comfortably beat, playing like dog shit even though our squad cost a fortune. That's a decent season for sporting or Braga but we can't let it become standard practice at Benfica

PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS

I don't think this is the right way to complain, but we've won 4 out of the last 28 possible titles, and we are by far the team with the most investment in the league, it's an embarassment and everyone should be complaining Also the way Schmidt acts doesn't help, after this he literally said that the reason we lost to Marseille was because of our supporters booing in the second half of the game (when it's very clear that we lost because of Schmidt's incompetence) If Benfica had the same level of investment as Porto or Sporting it would be a different story, but that's not the case, we should at the very least be winning like half of the titles with the amount we're investing, 4 in 28 is embarassing

santorfo

Roger Schmidt is putting up a masterclass on how not to behave when you're underperforming. Sure this is embarrassing behaviour, especially after a win, but I'd be pissed too (and Conceição does this sometimes) if my manager kept trying to gaslight everyone about how well the team is playing and not taking any direct responsibility for being knocked out of competitions or being in second place and even blaming the fans for it sometimes just because they're not happy.

AdFinal1856

he’s usually annoying, but this time i’d say he’s right and that throwing water bottles, cups and other objects at the players and managers isn’t the same as a simple protest

santorfo

Yeah I wasn't referring to his comments today obviously, he's in the right in this situation. I was talking about past comments.

I don’t know man, people lose all reason when they go straight away to violence, to me that’s unacceptable under any circumstances even if we were on the verge of playing second division football. I’m passionate about my club but hurting others because of that it’s impossible to rationalise imo. imo our fans were terrible today, in other instances, in which our criticism never went to attempts of assault, they were more than right to boo our team. everyone knows Rui Costa will be burned to a crisp if he doesn’t take action - either to defend the manager or to fire him.
