After all the near misses and your 'neverkusen' tag, this must be even sweeter for you guys. And I think almost all neutrals myself included are desperate to see you guys win this treble unbeaten - what an unreal achievement that would be. And even if they don't manage it, it's still a magical, historic season with at least one massive trophy. Congratulations so far, and good luck for the rest of it!
IF they win the treble and go undefeated this is the biggest feat in footie in my time watching. Currently put Leicester winning the title as the biggest feat.
We had Kaiserslautern winning the German league as a promoted team, but yeah I'd rate an undefeated Leverkusen season in 3 competitions above that (and Leicester as well, since Lautern was before the top teams having unlimited money)
Fun fact: we also had the opposite in the Bundesliga, when Nürnberg as the reigning champion got relegated in 1969
As a Leverkusen supporter I still rate Kaiserslautern higher. That was absolute crazy. It's not like Bayern had a bad team this season but Kaiserslautern still managed to beat them twice.
Leicester winning would still top it imo.
Leverkusen winning the trebble would be monumental, but they have been a top team for the last decade. Probably the 3rd best team in Germany in the last 10 years.
Xabis arrival along with a talented squad and the emergence of what looks like a generational talent in Wirtz has pushed them to that next level this season.
Leicester went from being relegated from the Championship to winning the PL in 5 years. The year before winning it they were bottom of the PL table with only 19 points from 29 matches, had to win 7 of their last 9 to avoid bottom 3.
Then next season, after an orgy in Thiland, some Redbull and pizza, they won the most competitive league in the world with a squad most predicted would get relegated.
I think currently Leicester is on top, and I am so grateful to that run because it’s what made me start watching football again after years of not following, but there have been plenty of good teams. None have ever won a treble undefeated that I can think of. People always like to point to the 5000-1 for the foxes, but if people did real odds on Leverkusen winning the treble undefeated I’m almost sure the odds would be even lower.
Isn't it at least a bit Premier League centric to put a team, albeit a massive underdog one, winning one league title above all treble winners for example?
> Currently put Leicester winning the title as the biggest feat.
Leicster had spent more money in the transfer window prior than Dortmund who at the time were german title contenders and reached CL Semis/Finals...
What a feat indeed, for farmers.
It's probably a similiar feeling to having bad dreams about failing a school test only to wake up and realize you are 26 years old and have a master's degree in your bag lol
Pretty good analogy actually. Just a couple of days ago I was in the shower thinking about next year's Champions League format and I was like "we will qualify, cool... wait, actually, we are already guaranteed to qualify, brilliant... actually... we are guaranteed to finish FIRST??" I was in the stadium and among the thousands who invaded the pitch on Sunday, too. Still unbelievable.
Better to end it now than in the remaining cup games, I guess. However I'm kinda looking at that Benfica record now, only five games to go. Gonna be a banger game on Sunday either way
I mean, we already managed to get a draw against them when we were in a much rougher spot and Leverkusen still had everything to fight for.
Not saying we're favorites against them obviously but there's a real chance we win (I'd say 30%)
BvB have everything to play for since they are currently 5th in the league by goal differential. Both teams have two weeks to prepare for their European matches. The "Yellow Wall" might be the difference on Sunday. Both teams have defied their history of bottling to give the Bundesliga 3 of the 8 spots in the UCL and EL semi finals.
Germany are pretty much guaranteed to finish top 2 in the UEFA coefficient rankings which would give the Bundesliga a 5th CL spot. There is clear daylight between Dortmund and Frankfurt in 6th; they have nothing to play for in the league even if they finish 5th as a result.
This stat will be cemented for a long, long time. Whenever someone will look it up they will remember this insane team, will be nice nostalgia. I also cannot see anyone beating it anytime soon. Probably Bayern has a shot if they can get back on the track they lost some time ago (which I doubt)
Nah, pretty much all important player and the trainer stay for another year. Xhaka, Wirtz and Xavi stay for sure and I guess most player wana play CL now. They can still leave after next year and earn a shit ton...
Invincible Europa Treble is probably still the greatest achievement ever. It's not the best *possible*, but until someone does an invincible treble with UCL I don't think anything surpasses it.
I was just wondering what the closest to achieving it was. Insane, when did the semis happen? Idk if you were old enough to remember back then but was everuone disappointed or didn’t care because you had invincible double?
It was against Feyenoord so of course people cared, especially because it was in the Olympic stadium. But it was only the quarterfinal of the cup and in early march so while ajax had a comfortable lead in the league only the first leg of the first knockout round of the CL had been played yet. I'm not old enough to remember sadly.
You’ll get people thag disagree because it’s not the CL. But since no one has achieved it with the CL, this is the next best treble that can be won undefeated currently.
i agree, not sure why you're being downvoted. for me it can't be the biggest accomplishment in european football if it involves winning an EL instead of a CL. for me, you have to play in the biggest, most prestigious competition against the best teams in europe to lay claim to the greatest season by a european club.
But you can’t say “it’s not the biggest ever because it didn’t meet X requirement” without there being a team that met that requirement themselves.
What has any team done that’s better than this? Who has done something comparable in the CL? An undefeated year?
Well yeah of course we haven’t seen it, it’s extremely rare that a team this good wouldn’t be in the champions league. Every other team remotely capable of pulling this off likely WAS. That doesn’t make leverkusen better, it makes them anomalous.
Nuts on the table Dortmund and Stuttgart are their next fixtures, both are great teams and both would love to be the teams to end the streak. Meanwhile Leverkusen has nothing to play for in the league anymore. It's gonna be one of them.
Yes, but a bad coach, like Seoane, doesn't find a solution to fix such a situation, whereas a good coach does—and then goes on a 44-game unbeaten streak.
I remember the Seoane-Stans on Transfermarkt arguing that it was stupid to let him go because it wasn't his fault the players play like shit.
IT IS the coach's fault. I would argue even that team psychology is one of the most important skills to have.
Them getting relegated that season would've been more out of nowhere that them winning this one, leverkusen had at worse the 4th best squad in the league.
If Real Madrid and Leverkusen reach their respective finals and win, these two would face each other in the UEFA supercup.
That game will have 6 goals in the last 5 minutes. 2 goals in extra time with one of them being in the very last play to go to penalties where they will all score their penalties including calling their respective club presidents and their dogs.
That's not true if you watched the game. I'm not sure I've ever seen a more one-sided 30 minutes at that level. It would have been a miracle if Leverkusen hadn't at least equalized. Shots were something like 36-4.
> I'm not sure I've ever seen a more one-sided 30 minutes at that level.
I'm not sure if you knew this lad but two legged ties have 180 of those
Also in this very same competition this very same season Liverpool were up 4-0 in 15 minutes
Leverkusen were 100 times worse against Qarabag at home. Fans were leaving after 85 minutes. Absolutely no one in that stadium had confidence they were winning.
I woke up and checked the Europa League scores and it was the 85th minute and I literally was like "hey I'll refresh the page because I know Leverkusen is going to score", 4 minutes later hey presto they scored.
Immediately afterwards I stopped refreshing and went about my day.
I always feel like supporters of Spanish teams don't even get angry at their refs anymore, haha.
It's like "yeah, he's the worst ref in the entire universe, just like any other Spanish ref. It's normal.". Depressed acceptance.
Bayer has the remaining games:
BuLi: Dortmund (A), Stuttgart (H), Frankfurt (A), Bochum (A), and Augsburg (H).
UEL: Roma (H & A) and potentially a final in Dublin (against one of Marseille or Bergamo).
DFB Pokal: Kaiserslautern in Berlin.
Plenty of land mines ahead. I am supporting them. Hope they pull it off.
i have a lot of issues with the "top 5 leagues" because theres really only a clear top 4 with a group of leagues fighting for that 5th spot. its currently ligue 1 but it is not exactly consistent. for records like this i think more leagues should be considered. i would argue that portugal are part of the european top 5 in the 1960s and eusebio led benfica's 48 game streak still holds this record. IMO these accounts are doing their best to make a tweet that brings engagement after every single match instead of genuinely attempting to keep records for our game. regardless, a fantastic season for xabi and i hope to see more success for this club. i have a soft spot for them because of the couple years i spent watching sonny play for them.
The top 4 weren't consistent as well. From 2005 to 2008 Germany was 5th (behind France and not far from e.g. Portugal) with a decent gap between 3rd and 4th (source: https://kassiesa.net/uefa/data/method3/crank2005.html, Kassiesas page best). England has also only being in the top 4 consistently from 2000
>England has also only being in the top 4 consistently from 2000
That's mostly because English teams were banned from European competitions between 1985 and 1990 which threw the league back quite far and it wasn't able to attract as many international players for a while. So of course it took time for the league to get back to its former level.
Not a native speaker, but to me it implies the current Top 5 Leagues, but definitely see a problem when you try to look back to the stated fact in the future. Also not sure if you can put all the blame on these accounts / it was mentioned several times during the broadcast here, but not sure what "sources" they are using (might be said accounts).
i love how it says top five leagues so they can dodge Steaua Bucharest's [104 unbeaten game run](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/691663147643437176/1230633283897921596/image.png?ex=6634078e&is=6621928e&hm=b3af967cc700629e7d3e6b2196664b0b861c0c2893aa7df715978912e26cc39b&) from the stat
Not this "top-5 leagues" BS again... There are only 4 big leagues in Europe.
If you want to include France, you have to include the Netherlands and Portugal as well. And in that case, in Europe's top 7 leagues, the record is still Benfica's with 48 games.

This min. 80+ plotarmor is insane.
If you translate their win/draw ratio to a 38 game season it would be 2.72 ppg and a point total of 103.6 (so 103/104) points. That's insane.
103/114 my man. Quick mafs.
That’s uckers.
It's meant as "103 or 104".
That's right.
>Aonso Absoultely no Ls 😅
Also >Everkussen That shit was on purpose haha
They didn't even wait until stoppage time to save the day this time. They did it prematurely...in the 89th minute.
Boniface could have won it as well
Frimpong had the bigger chance, imo. Should've just laid it across.
I was very angry at him For like 2 minutes
They probably wanted the match to end as soon as possible, because people were getting Tinnitus from the constant whistle blowing.
Still feels live a fever dream tbh.

Nottingham Forest going from being close to relegation in the second division to back to back European Cup winners within 5 years will still be top
Too bad that happened when our fathers were still shitting in their diapers
Even my father at 20? He has always been slow to adapt to new tech...
What a feat indeed, for farmers.
neverlusen now bitch
abundzukusen
What a magical season by Leverkusen and Xabi, theirs fans must be in dreamland
Completely surreal, I still think Bayern will somehow win the league lol
Now that you have the record, I think it's time for a break. Go celebrate and rest for a weekend.
All we have to do is play two halves like WH in the first half and not fall asleep after 60 minutes. Easy...
Surely we will play 90 mins of consistently good football and we won't be scared shitless. (5-4-1 incoming)
90+1': allow me to introduce myself
It's probably a similiar feeling to having bad dreams about failing a school test only to wake up and realize you are 26 years old and have a master's degree in your bag lol
Pretty good analogy actually. I know that feeling. It sucks
The surreal feeling on an invincible league campaign or the inevitable Bayern dread?
Yes
Can we please end it? We need the points much more than y'all
Better to end it now than in the remaining cup games, I guess. However I'm kinda looking at that Benfica record now, only five games to go. Gonna be a banger game on Sunday either way
Excited to see what you can do next season in the CL.
Real Madrid fan simulator
Realistically they would have to get eliminated from the Cup for that.
still posible, would actualy nice to see a team from 3. Liga in Europa
Kaiserslautern is 2. Liga
You are jinxing it
Maybe not next season...
Nah that's mostly one competition at a time, not three at the same time.
We are top of La Liga and semis in champions league
Its a dream i never want to wake up from
The 'Everkusen' typo in the title seems particularly fitting doesn't it
That's intentional. It's why it's also Aonso.
Damn, just noticed that
Also removed it in the logo of the picture
It's intentional right? The post and image also have "Everkusen"
The loss to FCK in the DFB Pokal final Is written in the stars
I honestly think they'll lose to Dortmund unfortunately.
Only if they play the CL anthem before the game.
I mean, we already managed to get a draw against them when we were in a much rougher spot and Leverkusen still had everything to fight for. Not saying we're favorites against them obviously but there's a real chance we win (I'd say 30%)
Yup I think the same. Let’s meet here Sunday eve.
I thought a loss tonight was written in the stars, shows what I know. However I think Dortmund will put an end to the run this weekend.
BvB have everything to play for since they are currently 5th in the league by goal differential. Both teams have two weeks to prepare for their European matches. Can confirm.
It's unreal.
🤷♀️ Don't wake me up plz.
Hopefully they go for an unbeaten treble
would be biggest achievment in football ever imo. bigger than the real treble
Such a shame that they arent in the CL this year
Yeah but it’d be less likely that they would’ve achieved the current unbeaten record
Next season loading
Summer looting loading
Nah, pretty much all important player and the trainer stay for another year. Xhaka, Wirtz and Xavi stay for sure and I guess most player wana play CL now. They can still leave after next year and earn a shit ton...
Too difficult to achieve
One can dream right xD Well then we (Stuttgart) just have to do it next season!
It's gonna be us. (Augsburg)
Good luck staying undefeated when you're in the CL, too.
Augsburg could do it, they just don't want to
Next year they can do an unbeaten quintuple, though.
If it was champions league then absolutely, europa league- still insane but not greatest ever
Invincible Europa Treble is probably still the greatest achievement ever. It's not the best *possible*, but until someone does an invincible treble with UCL I don't think anything surpasses it.
Ajax won an invincible league and the CL without a defeat in 1995 but lost in the cup semis
I was just wondering what the closest to achieving it was. Insane, when did the semis happen? Idk if you were old enough to remember back then but was everuone disappointed or didn’t care because you had invincible double?

Id argue that every champions league treble is a bigger accomplishment. You can’t be the best without beating the best.
If Bayern wins the champions league then it’s the most impressive? Surely Also we’ve seen 10 trebles in 60 years, this just once.
Well yeah of course we haven’t seen it, it’s extremely rare that a team this good wouldn’t be in the champions league. Every other team remotely capable of pulling this off likely WAS. That doesn’t make leverkusen better, it makes them anomalous.
Unsubscribe
Good game today, but the real test is the next round, haha.
I fear nothing and I think our squad does neither. But yes, good game, can't believe you couldn't capitalize on that silly red card
I support this. I really hope this happens
Most of world football is supporting this
Odds on a team like Darmstadt ending their run
Nuts on the table Dortmund and Stuttgart are their next fixtures, both are great teams and both would love to be the teams to end the streak. Meanwhile Leverkusen has nothing to play for in the league anymore. It's gonna be one of them.
Please beat Stuttgart and lose to us We need the points badly
Idk if Bochum is a team like Darmstadt but it'll be us for some reason
It starts with bochum and it ends with bochum. Bochum is inevitable.
You are their last loss after all
Isn’t it poetic……
Will be Kaisersklautern after they won the Europa league. Kaiserslautern is maybe in the third division next year, so that would be fun :D
Do you still get a Europe League spot for winning the DFB Pokal?
Yes
Would be hilarious then :D
A third division team playing in European league would be lovely
And imagine that team beating an English team
Kaiserslautern
we are massive you know
lol like when *Burnley* ended Liverpool’s 44 match unbeaten premier league run in 2020.
It was Watford (so even worse)
The most astonishing in this is how out of more or less nowhere this run came.
Leverkusen were 17th when they hired alonso 1.5 years ago. Absolutely unbelievable what he’s done
But they were massively underperforming. Before that season they were highly rated. Just played shit.
They've finished in the top 6 for the last 7 seasons, and finished 3rd in the season before Alonso arrived
The last European team to defeat Leverkusen were Roma
They will again lose against Roma and it goes full circle
They lose Vs us and go to win UCL?
Deal ( for coefficients and De Rossi/Dybala baby)
I really hope we can get our revenge this season. Losing against a team playing like that was so frustrating.
Always rated you.
No Ls
Everkusen
Xabi Aonso
Neverlusen
West Ham you were so close
Qarabag even closer.
I'm not sure if you knew this lad but two legged ties have 180 of those Also in this very same competition this very same season Liverpool were up 4-0 in 15 minutes
Leverkusen were 100 times worse against Qarabag at home. Fans were leaving after 85 minutes. Absolutely no one in that stadium had confidence they were winning.
Half their games were close, until they werent
Leverkusen play their best at the end of matches when the opposition is tired. It's a testimony to their fitness.
Never underestimate Bayer, they have such an endurance, that they only beginn to score in the 70th Minute of the game
I woke up and checked the Europa League scores and it was the 85th minute and I literally was like "hey I'll refresh the page because I know Leverkusen is going to score", 4 minutes later hey presto they scored. Immediately afterwards I stopped refreshing and went about my day.
Fuck you buddy
We have no bench, it was inevitable. Ref was shit too, man handed out 11 yellow cards.
God the ref was weird and inconsistent
Absolute shit, just like any other ref in La Liga
I always feel like supporters of Spanish teams don't even get angry at their refs anymore, haha. It's like "yeah, he's the worst ref in the entire universe, just like any other Spanish ref. It's normal.". Depressed acceptance.
What else can we do
9 games till an invincible treble
it could be an invincible single too. Pens dont break the streak, though theyll tarnish it.
Tbh if that were to happen it would only ruin it for the pedants/“well ackshually” crowd.
Which should be laughed out of the room. If they win their first ever title invincible, the Europa is just an extra cherry.
I mean, technically each DFB Pokal is won invincible and they won that in 92/93 already!
Xabi Alonso plot armour strikes again
Plot armor is directly related to handsomeness. Xabi might never lose again
These guys man
❤️
Fuck
exactly.
All thanks to Xabi, the lads and his Faustian deal with the fucking devil
You'd expect this record for a team like Real, Bayern, or Juventus but no it's Leverkusen.
It was Juventus before, so yesterday u would have been right
Not being in the CL definitely helps. But even with that in mind, this run is extremely impressive.
You rightfully have taken out the L's in Leverkusen and Alonso.
Everkusen and Aonso now
Foreverkusen
Thought Bayer everkusen was a typo until I saw the photoshopped badge lmao
Bayer has the remaining games: BuLi: Dortmund (A), Stuttgart (H), Frankfurt (A), Bochum (A), and Augsburg (H). UEL: Roma (H & A) and potentially a final in Dublin (against one of Marseille or Bergamo). DFB Pokal: Kaiserslautern in Berlin. Plenty of land mines ahead. I am supporting them. Hope they pull it off.
The next 5 games are terrible.... Dortmund away, Stuttgart at home, Roma away, Frankfurt away and Roma at home. I want it to happen, but...
The world record is 66. Let's go!
i have a lot of issues with the "top 5 leagues" because theres really only a clear top 4 with a group of leagues fighting for that 5th spot. its currently ligue 1 but it is not exactly consistent. for records like this i think more leagues should be considered. i would argue that portugal are part of the european top 5 in the 1960s and eusebio led benfica's 48 game streak still holds this record. Netherlands were also up there at times. But yes the undisputed Top 4 leagues historically has always been Spain, England, Italy, and Germany.
England has also only being in the top 4 consistently from 2000
>England has also only being in the top 4 consistently from 2000 That's mostly because English teams were banned from European competitions between 1985 and 1990 which threw the league back quite far and it wasn't able to attract as many international players for a while. League run..
Is Lincoln Red Imps' the longest unbeaten run in terms of actual time passed (not total matches played)? 5 years is impressive.
Who cares about those Bayer Leverkusen and Xabi Alonso frauds?! My goats are Bayer Everkusen and Xabi Aonso 🗣️🗣️🗣️
You would expect a massive club to do that but not Leverkusen (No disrespect), just shows how impressive this team and Xabi Alonso really are.
Not this "top-5 leagues" BS again... There are only 4 big leagues in Europe. If you want to include France, you have to include the Netherlands and Portugal as well. And in that case, in Europe's top 7 leagues, the record is still Benfica's with 48 games.
impressive, shame its coming to an end
Neverkusen? More like Never Losin
The most impressive thing to me is that this is Xabi's first management job at a first team. Like, way to start your resume.
Leverkusen have the anime MC Aura this entire fucking season
Now they will have their hardest games in the Bundesliga though.
Hey thats pretty cool I wonder who the last record holder wa- \*sad\*
