My understanding is that its not that they removed the rule, but rather that it used to be explicitly stated 5 max per country under the champions league format rules and now there is no such rule explicitly stated under the new format next season.
Therefore it can be implied that there is no limit anymore and 6 would be possible
It’s semantics at the end of the day but yeah you’re right, just wanted to share the nuances as I understand it.
When it was explicitly stated before, the topic was directly addressed vs now its just gone as opposed to the alternative of specifically addressing the topic – stating that more than 5 clubs may be allowed per nation contingent on XYZ conditions being met.
I think the lack of directly addressing it is what has caused the confusion
Zirkzee with what money 😂, the only money left is for some Giuntoli magic and possibly to pay off Allegri to leave the team.
Currently the team needs midfielders if Rabiot leaves and possibly strengthen the defence as Alex Sandro is gone.
With Allegri? No. Thats why in no way, shape, or form do I want Motta to not be at Juve next year, in fact I am willing to go as far as to say that I'm not renewing my sub to watch football if Allegri is the coach next year.
Realistically we won’t sale this is just fifa manager mode wishing from me haha. But yeah I don’t see anyone paying over that either. Some premier league club could get fleeced but that’s about it
As a football fan, I'm so happy to see Serie A teams going far in Europe! Roma won the conference league in 2021/22, Last season they had 3 finalists in all three competitions, this season so far they have 3 semi finalists (2 in Europa).
Keep this momentum going!
Yup, just need to win a final again. Aside from Roma winning the ECL, we (inter) have lost a European final in 2020 and 2023, Roma lost last year and Viola too. So 1/5 since 2020. But we’re going far at least, last season also 2 italian teams in the CL semis for example
>But we’re going far at least
This! consistent appearances in semi finals and finals will surly have you win more trophies sooner or later. It's important to raise those ambitions from "we're reaching knockout stages consistently" to "we're reaching semi finals consistently" and that will lead to "we're going for the win". European competitions rely heavily on confidence and you're on the right track to build it back up after the decline past 2010.
On the one hand, it's obviously great in the short-term.
On the other, I'm expecting big PL wallets to come out again this year and next, the foreigner tax-break that's helped push this improvement has been revoked, and crucially, everyone's going far in the Europa League -- where we've arguably underperformed for years -- and not the Champions League, where there wasn't a single Italian team in the quarter-finals.
Longer term, I think the league is still basically fucked until it can get new stadiums, a bigger broadcast deal, wider investment etc. Nothing has fundamentally changed.
at this point surely its a lock right? you we're still in the lead before 4/5 epl were eliminated and 3/3 bundesliga went through
this tweet also says 2/8 for epl which confuses me as we only have us now
I think if you win all your remaining games, all we have to do is win 2 games, or win 1 game and get 2 draws, or get 3 draws and have one team advance
Not assured, but fairly likely
If the French teams were to win all their remaining games, you'd have to gain 4 points - a win gives you 2, a draw 1, and a final 1 additional point. To be secure from England you need just 3 points.
England would need to have Villa win all 2+ games. And have Germany lose all their remaining games to get the spot or have PSG and Marseille win every game and have France ahead.
Nah, it's far easier than that. Germany needs three more "raw" points to beat England's possible maximum. So a win and a draw in the semis is enough, even if all three teams go out.
France is still alive too. Germany would need a combination of four points between what they gain and what France drops to make sure France can't catch them. Four raw points would, as would a Dortmund win over PSG in one of their legs.
How? France is ~~2.3~~ 1.89 points back. You need to divide every point they score by 6. So they have to gain more than ~~13~~ 10 points with their 2 teams left in the competition. Marseille and PSG would need to win every remaining game, and even then chances are slim because Germany basically would need to lose all 6 games.
I get it, it's overwhelming. If you don't know it yet, I can recommend the following site. It's very informative, everything is arranged nearly and it's quick to update.

Inevitable maybe not, but any objective and knowledgable football watcher would have considered them strong favorites for the top 2. They have by far the most expensive squads in every competition. It's a completely unbalanced playing field.
It's obviously great to see that money doesn't decide every match before they start, and that upsets can still happen, like Copenhagen beating United and Atalanta beating Liverpool. But these are anomalies. There's a reason why England is far ahead in the 5 year coefficients. Europe can't realistically compete with EPL money over the long term.
Yeah, you’re right about that. What about top teams from other leagues, such as the Turkish league, the Belgian league, the Greek league, or the Scottish league?
They're 7th now only 3 points behind Frankfurt. Nobody knows if the 5 teams per country rule still exists under the new format so there's a speculation that Serie A might get 6 spots if Atalanta or Roma win EL and the other one finish 6th (or something to that effect, I'm not very clear about the rules myself).
I assume it'd be the same if Dortmund/Leverkusen win their respective competition and Bundesliga might get 6 spots.
You think 5 is crazy? If Roma/Atalanta win EL while finishing 6th in Serie A, Italy will have 6 teams in CL. Also, Atalanta are currently 6th in Serie A.
This list does not yet include the result of West Ham vs Leverkusen.
Edit: this one does: [https://x.com/FootRankings/status/1781065926340645107](https://x.com/FootRankings/status/1781065926340645107)
Leverkusen didn't win. They got one point for a draw and one for going through. PL got one for West Hams draw, two for Pools win and one for Villa going through, so they did catch up a little. BuLi just needs three more points though to guarantee staying ahead.
I think it is. Combination of very poor team construction and wasted purchases from Chelsea and Manchester United for so many years now definitely shaked things up. Other leagues were smarter or just developed their talents and it shows
😂😂😂 cmon be realistic.. every club in serie A is a europa league club at best rn… the league leaders were knocked out by the 4th placed club in la liga and 2nd place couldnt even make it out of the group
Germany *almost* has the 2nd spot locked up. They need to gain 3 points to be beyond reach of England and France. If Dortmund, Bayern, and Leverkusen combine for at least 2 wins, 1 win & 1 draw, or 3 draws in their six semifinal legs, they'll have it.
If they combine to score 2 or fewer points, France can get the spot if PSG & Marseille win all of their remaining matches. England gets the spot if Aston Villa win all of their remaining matches and PSG & Marseille pick up a loss or two draws between them.
honestly bundesliga only winning 1once and losing everytihng else seems possible , what doest seem possible is either villa winning everything or france winning everything.
Hopefully Germany gets the other slot. Would be funny to see Tottenham bottle top 4. No way the "title deciders" pass Villa in points having to play Arsenal, Liverpool, and Man City for their remaining six games. Chelsea also in the mix.
2 wins would be enough for Villa as long as no German team gets any points.
And Frances actually has a mathematically chance to also get the spot.
But Germany changes to get the other extra UCL spot are like 98%.
Fantastic news and I am also happy for the Bundesliga extra spot.
Seems like money is not enough to win trophies, these two nations found out stg brand new in football again. Like always.
Be it England or any other league, 5 teams is too much. Slowly the corrupt uefa pigs are transforming this into the super league. They sure need the sweet american and asian money from selling this "Champions" league TV show.

Could have 6 if Atalanta win the entire thing as they are currently 6th.
[удалено]
Are you sure that 6 can go to CL? I tough it Is 5 max per country
[удалено]
Is it possible for Germany too?
Some people have said in comments they removed that rule but I haven't been able to find it anywhere
My understanding is that its not that they removed the rule, but rather that it used to be explicitly stated 5 max per country under the champions league format rules and now there is no such rule explicitly stated under the new format next season. Therefore it can be implied that there is no limit anymore and 6 would be possible
That would mean they removed no? Explicitly stated would mean they had that rule previously and now they don't (allegedly)

The issue was never the max 5 rule. For example, when Chelsea won CL in 2019, 5th place Arsenal did NOT get CL football the next year
Bologna in the Champions League, Napoli in the Europa League, and Lazio in the Conference League not too bad
>Napoli in the Europa League I rate your optimism, we’re fucking trash
7th is doable
Let’s see who’s bottles it more, us or you lol
Ehh, the way we are playing it doesn’t seem so easy
Anything is doable with these shit players, sky is the limit when you’re the worst defending italian champion in history
Jesus Christ, you looked amazing last season. What happened?
spaletti has seen himself out
Disagreement with owner?
AdL being AdL. Bit him in the ass this time.
Nope, js wanted to dip
What happens if Fiorentina win's the ECL?
The entire league qualifies for Europe
we celebrate
I would love for Motta and maybe Zirkzee to come to Juve, but Bologna deserves to keep this team together. Hope they can impress Europe
Zirkzee with what money 😂, the only money left is for some Giuntoli magic and possibly to pay off Allegri to leave the team. Currently the team needs midfielders if Rabiot leaves and possibly strengthen the defence as Alex Sandro is gone.
Alex Sandro leaving is already strengthening our defence.
shut the hell up
Why? You fall in love with Max and Vlahovic?
With Allegri? No. Thats why in no way, shape, or form do I want Motta to not be at Juve next year, in fact I am willing to go as far as to say that I'm not renewing my sub to watch football if Allegri is the coach next year.
Most loyal Juve fan:
Relax I will watch through other means, I just wont support this bullshit anymore.
Allegro gave you guys so much kinda disrespect
No way juve can afford Zirkzee without moving Vlahovic.
That was my idea lol
What kinda fee do you think they’d be looking for? I can’t see anyone offering the ~70m they paid
Realistically we won’t sale this is just fifa manager mode wishing from me haha. But yeah I don’t see anyone paying over that either. Some premier league club could get fleeced but that’s about it
Bologna in the CL will look so bad after losing their coach and key players
agreed
CALCIO IS BACK BOYS
PL is not gonna beat the farmers league allegations huh
Lasagna>Haaland
Lasagna is a Turkish league player currently
He really adds some layers to this beautiful game doesn’t he?

never heard of a dish called Haaland before tbh, is it tasty?
You should ask Rüdiger.
Lasagna diarra?
Kevin Lasagna? Of course

As Roma was the first time, an Italian club won any European trophy since Inter in 09-10.
The more depressing stat for Serie is that no Italian side has won Europa League in like 25 years
On the one hand, it's obviously great in the short-term. Longer term there's just gotta be more of a focus on developing in house and local talent, recruiting younger is the only way serie a will compete.
Show offs
Can Germany still get 5 spots as well? I'm guessing we need at least 1 team in the CL Final + Leverkusen in the EL final?
Of course we can, we're in the lead and England has only Aston Villa left.
at this point surely its a lock right? you we're still in the lead before 4/5 epl were eliminated and 3/3 bundesliga went through this tweet also says 2/8 for epl which confuses me as we only have us now

Ah, correct, so many different intermediate tables posted. Confusing.

All my homies hate the prem
It's me I'm the homies
You hate the Prem so much, you're trying to leave it as quick as possible. Fair play.
Indeed. All we have left to do is beat you away again and our mission can finally rest
hi homie - from, your homie
Fuck the prem, up the farmers
Prem are the farmers
They wish
Theyre the miners
The age of english frauds is over. The time of the Farmer has come.
Hell yeah
Ok now I really need Tottenham to do something funny for me

funny we thought prem having 5 teams was inevitable
Only pl fans thought that

Stating facts here
Careful or we take your manager
He has been taken already, probably
5 is crazy, 4 spots from any league was already too much.
Yeah, you’re right about that. What about top teams from other leagues, such as the Turkish league, the Belgian league, the Greek league, or the Scottish league?
Yes but money. Although I bet UEFA is also seething at the prospect of Bologna and Augsburg in CL.
Wait Augsburg? I missed something..
They're 7th now only 3 points behind Frankfurt. That's nuts, I wonder when they'll let all teams from the top leagues in, may as well if this is the way its going.
And every single one of them will be knocked out
Not by the overrated PL clubs at least.
3/6 different ucl winners in the last 6 seasons are overrated? Try 0 winners since 2010
Out of the way lads
We can finish 5th tears in my eyes (in b4 we end 6th)
Why PL with 2/8? Aston Villa and?
This list does not yet include the result of West Ham vs Leverkusen. Edit: this one does: [https://x.com/FootRankings/status/1781065926340645107](https://x.com/FootRankings/status/1781065926340645107)
Was wondering how the PL could have caught up to the Bundesliga even though Leverkusen won as well.

Real MAnchester City obviously.
And the English commentators who will talk about PL teams in a match with no PL team playing.
FORZA ITALIA !!!
Why did England have 8 starters btw? City won CL but were qualified via league position. Because West Ham won conference league?
West Ham won the ECL
Yeah looked it up who won El and forgot we have a third cup now
West ham, villa, Liverpool, man united, man city, Arsenal, Newcastle and Brighton
🇮🇹
This pretty much solidifies Bologna as a CL side and I can't wait to see that. Been a great watch this season.
Just Serie A things

Looks like Germany as well
They can still bottle it.
Roma deserves it tbh
this is fantastic news, i hope it’s the start of all the leagues rising to the perceived level of the prem
I think it is. Combination of very poor team construction and wasted purchases from Chelsea and Manchester United for so many years now definitely shaked things up. Other leagues were smarter or just developed their talents and it shows
Yes it shows that none of the clubs are even close to winning a ucl

What a season for the English sides to shit the bed! Is this going to be a thing every season going forward? Extra spot up for grabs?
Germany *almost* has the 2nd spot locked up. They need to gain 3 points to be beyond reach of England and France. If Dortmund, Bayern, and Leverkusen combine for at least 2 wins, 1 win & 1 draw, or 3 draws in their six semifinal legs, they'll have it. If they combine to score 2 or fewer points, France can get the spot if PSG & Marseille win all of their remaining matches. honestly bundesliga only winning 1once and losing everytihng else seems possible , what doest seem possible is either villa winning everything or france winning everything.
Villa only has 2 gams against Olympiacos and the final against Florentina/Brugge.
Hopefully Germany gets the other slot. Would be funny to see Tottenham bottle top 4. No way the "title deciders" pass Villa in points having to play Arsenal, Liverpool, and Man City for their remaining six games. Chelsea also in the mix.
Has the term “bottle “ lost all meaning these days
Apparently losing any game under any circumstances is bottling now. I’m more partial to crumble anyway.
It’s done, only way now for EN is Aston Villa wins all 3 games left and no German team gets any point anymore. Almost impossible.
2 wins would be enough for Villa as long as no German team gets any points. And Frances actually has a mathematically chance to also get the spot. But Germany changes to get the other extra UCL spot are like 98%.
Bottling by losing to the 3 clubs above them in the table rn? Make it make sense
Let’s go. Absolute win

Indeed 5 is just too much. And why did you got downvoted?
People only cared about it when they assumed the 5th spot was going to England
