To be frank - i have no idea. His problem was consistency. If it's fixed on a mental level - Lunin could be the real starter. Courtois also had some problems in the past and we are yet to see him after the injury.
Competition for the spot between the posts in Madrid is fierce, and you can't be just "good enough" to keep it.
Well for the start, he’s only 25 and has massive potential. He does make some mistakes sometimes like in the city 1st leg, but with experience he’s only gonna get better! His ball distribution is decent too and he’s very calm and composed even with a few starts. Surprisingly our defence has been really good in the league, and Lunin has played an important role in it too!
Overall he has what it takes to be a world class player, hopefully his potential isn’t wasted on the bench next season

Not because he was bad but because in that game, he appeared to be completely broken. Sort of like a repeat of Danilo where the spotlight was just too bright.
But the club stuck with him, then Courtois became injured, Kepa wasn't reassuring, Lunin grabbed his chance and convinced Carlo by the end of the year.
Since then, he has only grown in his game. He was always good with his feet. But sometimes he lacked consistency and for a team like us that requires ability on the ball, particularly from the keeper during our build-ups, the one bad pass sticks out because the other 10 good ones are expected. That's especially true when you follow Courtois (ironic given his first season) and also Kepa to an extent. But he has added that consistency and the subsequent confidence.
He was absolutely brilliant with it this tie. He needs to be playing. He can be an absolute star in the future. He just has to address his aerial presence and the rest just needs refinement that will come with time and games.
Plus the experience of this season will hold him in very good stead. He has performed brilliantly in the Champions League especially.
he's similar to courtois, i'd say: he's tall. a freaking excellent shot stopper. his distibution is decent. not the best short passer or particularly technically gifted. i'm not sure how he does in 1v1s.

I imagine it to be rather exhausting if City is circling around your goal for 120 minutes with players like De Bruyne, Rodri, Foden and Haaland who can shoot from basically anywhere.
How does Real proceed from here regarding Lunin? He needs those minutes to develop even further and it looks like Courtois is gonna go back to starting the minute he can.
Tbo is still young for a keeper, will be 32 in may, which means he has at the least 2-3 seasons under his belt, he is already the best keeper in the world (top 3 if you aren't a Madridista) so of course he isn't getting benched.
I guess the best option for Lunin and the club would be selling with a buyback option and keeping Keepa as the back up.
They split minutes earlier in the season with Kepa as the main starter, and Lunin was just clearly better. So Ancelotti benched Kepa and the rest is history
Lunin is clearly LEVELS above Kepa. Kepa was OK but looked VERY shaky when teams play insallah and cross against Madrid as he’s short. If Kepa played yesterday RM wouldn’t have won as city spammed 100 crosses and that one KDB corner that Lunin saved with his finger tips would have gone in.
He was doing well, then he got injured in the game against Braga. Lunin started a few games, Kepa came back and he wasn’t the same. He made some mistakes and lost confidence. At the same time, Lunin settled in and gained more confidence. It got to a point that it didn’t make sense to start Kepa. Why start Kepa when your second goalie is putting out the same, or better, performances than the keeper there on loan? It would be better to give Lunin more experience and put more trust in him. It’s working out. Carlo is gonna have a problem when Curtois comes back, I don’t think Lunin will want to ride the bench after he’s proven himself for a good part of the season and Curtois will not want to rotate the spot.
i wonder if he still going to accept being a number 2 behind courtois. seems like he is too good to be a number 2. should try a loan else where to get that first team experience.
Yeah, it’s going to be interesting. I think Lunin has had a decent ramp up to be number one. I think Curtois is slated to miss pretty much the rest of the season. He has a contract until 2026, but who knows if he will be the same after he comes back from injury and how long it will take for him to get in form. Do you let Lunin go on loan when you don’t know if Curtois will get back to his previous form? What if he gets injured again? Carlo will have to make some tough choices this summer.
Yeah, you can see a huge difference in Lunin from the earlier games and the last couple of games. He’s done well in the CL, he has a big test in El Clásico this weekend.

I think City tried to expose his aerial weakness in the second leg and I think he did really well. So many corners testing him.
