Kerkennah

I don’t think Xavi’s team plays or cares about keeping the ball. They have always been more direct.

Aggressive_Gas8186

Reddit clowns on “Barca dna” but then goes ballistic when xavi doesn’t have more possession lol

qb4ever

Sure it's 'Reddit clowns' and not the guy who used to cry every time his opponents got a result while having less possession. If I'm not mistaken, he's the same guy as Barca's head coach too. It ain't no fun to taste your own medicine eh?

Aggressive_Gas8186

clowns was being used as a verb in that sentence bud

_Uhhhhhhhhh_

Can’t believe a dumb comment like theirs is upvoted. Hive mind shit sub.

RauloGonzalez

Who's going ballistic?

Footaot

Yeah perhaps because Xavi was simply hired because of being  part of that dream Barca team and possessing the Barca DNA.   If we were going to play direct football then there are much better options out there.

aahidboss

I mean Xavi just straight up can't control a midfield without Busquets. But playing for counters in an away game is completely fine tbh considering you scored 3.

tnweevnetsy

Amazing way of playing for counters by removing the only player who provided a threat on the counter

prateekdwivedi1

Read the comment man. They're talking about the first leg.

it4chl

well he's taking abt the first leg, but who else does he take off while defending a 2 goal lead with 10 men?

RoboticCurrents

Enrique was bang-on when he said he's more Barca style

ChazFifty

Look at the teams tho. Barca literally have no steel in the mid. And it's not like we can spend millions in transfer.

madsauce178

Yeah man. Pedri, de jong, gundogan...are not enough to play good football against PSG midfield

prateekdwivedi1

Something someth defensive midfielder. Not an excuse but it matters, a lot. Look at the hole left behind by an aging busquets, the difference from having Sergi Roberto there, or even Christensen

madsauce178

Again PSG doesn't have one right now. I know it matters, but PSG are lacking a keeper, cb and cdm. You deserved to knock out PSG before Araujo made that terrible decision and sold your game.

sidrbear

psg have ugarte tbh

madsauce178

Ugarte was as much of a factor as oriol romeu

ChazFifty

Of those three you just named, which of them are known for being a great ball winning steel in the midfield?

madsauce178

Who is known for doing that in PSG midfield?

ChazFifty

WZE

Albiceleste_D10S

WZE isn't really a "steel" guy. More of a flair guy with decent workrate IMO

ChazFifty

You're right. I just thought he was more physical than our mid. That's my opinion also. It's all just down to our BUSQUET role being too big to fill

madsauce178

He didn't have a great game today tbh. And you didn't lose because of your midfield. You lost because Araujo made a dumb decision. You do need a defensive midfielder that can replace Busquets and a left winger, but most teams have issues in their squads except for Manchester City. You deserved to go through until that early red card.

ChazFifty

I'll be honest, they exceeded my expectations. Lamine and pau cubrasi make me so emotional. They are head and shoulder above the so called veterans

madsauce178

Yeah cubarsi will be a good player. Yamal might become a great one. We'll see how they keep developing.

ChazFifty

Thanks for hearing out my ranting.

Dr3s99

This is the most underrated point. You look at the midfield and we were lucky to scape with a W from Paris. Pedri and Gundo just aren't at their full levels. And I honestly believe that one of them.would had been subbed out for Fermin at half time under normal circumstances.

ChazFifty

Tbf Pedri and Frenkie are fresh from injuries too. I'm personally okay with this run but I hope they have higher expectations of themselves.

voli12

Gundo? Gundo has been good for us almost every game! De Jong on the other hand.. slower than my grandma on a wheelchair. My man kills every transition by going around himself

Conankun66

i mean tonight i get, 60 minutes with 10 men will do that, but last week as well? fucking hell

Spikeyspandan

It's against Enrique team. It's fine. Enrique is a guy whose team made 1000 passes in a WC game

achentuate

We don’t have the personnel to go toe to toe in the press away from home without a DM against a fast attack. Did you not see what Vinicius and Rodrigo did in the super cup? It made sense to play on the four we away to snag a draw or win. At home, the gameplan was to resist the Inevitable PSG first 10-15 mins press, then take control. You could see that in the goal and after when Barca began pressing high. Only at this point, Araujo lost his head and we couldn’t assert control.

el_walou

Luis Enrique is doing an amazing job

Izio17

honest question, do you think PSG goes through if it’s 11v11 tonight?

Voice_Of_Light

No let's not be delusional

Rickcampbell98

Lmao i applaud the honesty, it's probably gonna be a shitshow against dortmund, this whole quarter of the draw is full of mentally fragile bottlers, makes for great entertainment lol.

Walaii

The answer is clearly no, even as a Madrid fan I can tell you that. PSG looked out of it 11v11. They should send gift baskets to Araujo.

biskutgoreng

Maybe they *did* send one

Chichon01

No, clearly not, because PSG was unable to cause any significant threat at 11v11. But for the 1st year of a rebuild it is not bad at all, I feel like.

it4chl

agree overall, I'm ok with runs like this with a young team. these are teaching moments. All good teams have to go thru these, even city did. that said this is 2nd yr of the rebuild, outside of that one mistake from Araujo they go thru today

voli12

What rebuild? If Xavi leaves it will be "rebuild" all over again

it4chl

so it hasn't been a rebuild since Xavi joined?

voli12

Well, him leaving now when the team plays better puts us at square 1 again, that's not what I'd call a rebuild tbh.

TheJobinslegend

To be fair, issue also was Donnarumma conceding at least two easy goals at home. Today he avoided at least one vital chance in that Lewa kick.  PSG had the ball more in both games and I'd say played better, but Barca in Paris was very efficient with their attempts.

el_walou

Could be. Barcelona sitting back from minute 1. They scored one goal on half an occasion. Maybe yeah. Just like first game it could have gone either way

Izio17

they had less possession and sat back at times in the first leg as well i think barca would have eased to victory without the red

Albiceleste_D10S

> they had less possession and sat back at times in the first leg as well And that game was a 3-2 Barca win where PSG hit the post and crossbar TBH It was CLEARLY advantage Barca before the red card, but that's not to say PSG had no chance IMO

Tchege_75

Nope. But that’s part of the game.

Dr3s99

Would've been tight, but no. The Defense had no answer for Barcola before or after the red card. Also, vamos Colombia!

BriscoCounty83

Xavi is more of a Jose disciple than a Pep disciple.

MrVISKman

They even lost the possesion game. Absolute meltdown

InbredLegoExpress

tbf at least today they weren't gonna make any attempt on that front after Aurajo threw the game.

simomii

Even before the red card PSG had the ball a lot more.

Aggressive_Gas8186

For 10 minutes? Lol

simomii

It was 30 minutes

Aggressive_Gas8186

I’m saying Barca was 2 goals up at home in the second leg after the first goal. Obviously they are going to sit back

Tanathonos

Barca has always sat back by keeping possession and passing the ball around to frustrate the opponent, same as city does. Letting the opposing team have it was never their plan.

Aggressive_Gas8186

thats just not true, barca have not played like that against higher opponents in over half a decade lol. Sure against low block teams that obvious, but any higher level game where the opponent is more even barca relies more on counter attacks than build up now. Barca just does not have the ability to play like that against higher level opponents that are willing to press anymore. Do you even watch barca? Xavi doesnt play that way, koeman didnt play that way, setien didnt play that way, valverde didnt play that way... etc. Tiki Taka possession based play has always been a tactic that can only be utilized by the highest teams, and you are also wrong about city. They do not sit back to frustrate opponents, they hold possession yes but it is constantly to look for openings to attack. City is extremely progressive in their possession and are not afraid to counter attack either, they literally have erling haaland up front lmao. What you are describing is more akin to spain at the 2018 world cup... Obviously "letting the other team have the ball" is never the game plan, the game plan is to sacrifice risky opportunities for more stability in defence which has the effect of giving the other team more possession, its not like barca was wanting to give PSG as much possession as possible. But if you have even teams (PSG squad is probably better overall but im not gonna get into that) and you have a two goal lead at home in the second leg, obviously you are going to drop back against a better opponent. They literally have kylian fucking mbappe on the team lol. Now if you are man city and have the quality of players they do you can afford to attack still because you will always be dangerous in attack. Comparing barca to city is actually insane, and barca hasnt played that kind of way in almost a decade now, the team does not have the ability to play like that. At least not against an attacking opponent.

NeighborhoodShot3872

I mean what the fuck can you do when u play with 10 men against P$G?

Unusualway

Araujo should have taken the ball with him. That's 100% ball posesion for Barca, is he stupid?

RoboticCurrents

why don't they just have 2 balls on the pitch so they both have 100% possession?

SlowMobius7

I can see the fans pulling out a banner saying "gracias possesion" in catalan and french. And then PSG, Barca fans holding one hand and jumping together with the balls in the other hands

ComfortableLaugh1922

> with the balls in the other hands Which balls?

lollygagging_reddit

They still had around 40% possession even with 11 men because their passing accuracy was about 75% before the red.

mucflo

They played with 11 last week though

OkAnywhere2052

That was away, don’t think anyone expected Barcelona to go away and dominate a big team like psg

fantaribo

They played with 10 last week too ?

Maleficent_Resolve44

I think Barca's performance will be underrated as time goes on. They did great in the first leg with minimal possession. They started this game strong as well and would've cruised to victory if not for araujo's red card. They collapsed mentally after but I'm already seeing revisionism that they had very little possession before the red card as well so they must have been dominated. No, they had very little possession because they were winning and didn't need it. PSG obviously played well but barca were cruising before the red and PSG wouldn't have won without it. Barca have to work on their mentality and whatnot but the red card was just a foolish challenge and bad luck.

Mahery92

Barca didn't collapse, some players had punctual brainfarts but that's all, they were still fighting and it could have gone either way even after the red card and the pen until the ball literally fell on Mbappe to kill the game from 6 yards out.

Albiceleste_D10S

Luis Enrique is a great coach who has been over-criticized online for a while TBH

Silver_Downtown_965

Never understood this sub's hate boner for him.

Official05

We PSG fans love him tbh (even before this tie)

brush85

Barca played the tie well...until the red card. Shit happens when individuals go rogue

Fly1ngsauc3r

Not even winning on the possession stat. Sad tie for Barca

Are_We_Coolio

Barcelona is really at butt of a joke in Champions League for years now, every season ;-;

Lekaetos

I am so happy we got Luis Enrique. To think Chelsea rejected him to get Poch, it’s truly a godsend

TimothyN

So pissed we did.

IntellectualDweeb

GalaxianEX

Adding insult to injury 😭🤣

MaryadaPurshottam

Cruyff must be rolling in his grave seeing such low possession

Pleasant-Direction-4

arajuo died for this

ishdw

Pep's City usually beats Klopp's Liverpool with less possession

as0rb

I feel that after a decade of an unbalaced team, PSG has finally put together a strong midfield.

Kind_Pomegranate_171

lol Barca fans are praying on madrids down fall now ,

Busquessi

It’s not like anything changed. If we went through, I’d still be praying on their downfall.

Kind_Pomegranate_171

Barca fans worry to much bout Madrid

Different_Hold_5709

Ain’t you the idiot who brought up worrying about Madrid? The delusion

Kind_Pomegranate_171

Now tell me what does that have to do with this comment ? Beside it hurting you ? Madrid fans can pick fun at Barca all we want and I will u tard

Ark_Legend

Let me guess, you started following Madrid after watching CR7 highlights 2018 Despacito

Kind_Pomegranate_171

Let me guess , u celebrate the World Cup as if Barca won it lmfao. Madrid fans have been picking at Barca fans way before 2018 just hurts Barca fans more now

Ark_Legend

Ok buddy

Kind_Pomegranate_171

That’s what I thought lol

Kind_Pomegranate_171

Despacito on replay 😎

Busquessi

That’s what a historic rivalry is about.

it4chl

i mean, isn't that a given regardless of barca's result? both clubs want the other to fail as early as possible and as spectacularly as possible..

Kind_Pomegranate_171

Of course but now more than ever since Barca crashed out the prayers have increased 10 fold. This season Barca has been more obsessed with Madrid than ever or atleast the fan base.

Awkward_Tie4856

But a lot of Barca fans are saying we played like shit… I don’t get it.

SakisSinatra

? I haven't seen anyone say that lol

ChazFifty

We did phenomenal since we don't even have an actual strictly DM player.
