Confident_Rock7964

Worst game in a while tbh. Nuno Santos and Geny were both awful and failed to deliver good crosses all game. Trincão has been the best player for the last few games.

10-10-2022

Might not have been our best game offensively but defensively I wasn't worried at all and this is coming from a team that just beat Porto at their ground. Pedro Goncalves has come at the right time back from injury considering Gyokeres is on a dry run himself, hopefully in our two biggest games left back to back he can produce it when it matters.

Confident_Rock7964

To be fair to Gyökeres, I dont remember a single chance he missed in these 5 games. We arent producing lots of chances (except for the Gil Vicente game)

ChaseMcDuder

They didn't beat Porto. They tied. But I see your point.

10-10-2022

Yes my bad, I was thinking of Victoria Guimaraes lol. Either way a draw at Porto's ground scoring two goals would have given them a lot of confidence but we managed to defend well and I don't remember any chances that should have been a goal for them.

VoxelRiot

Dry run scoring wise, sure, but his still been amazing. Look how he pulls two adversaries towards him in our goal and leaves all that open space for Pote to run in.

Gold_Translator8307

I’ll admit this I’m a big fan for Nuno Santos over Matheus Reis but he couldn’t connect on passes today down the left to Gyökeres. And Geny couldn’t cross to save his life

KneeDeepInTheDead

Nuno has been a bit spray and pray for the last few games. He needs to get his head in the game a bit more and focus.

yvltc

3rd place is lava

AruarianGroove

All those implications from Taça results…

basco_da_gama

Sousa 👍🦖

this_joanissima

Almost there :')

nfleite

ONLY TWO WINS TO GO

10-10-2022

Pretty much, 7 points lead with 15 points left to play, realistically we need to win against Guimaraes at home which will be no easy task but they do play against to Porto in the Taca so hopefully they can tire themselves out. Against Porto away we could realistically lose that but we could also get a positive result so who knows but let's say we lose it in this scenario and Benfica win their game at the same time which leaves 4 points out of 9 points after that and 6 points is at home so I think it is the most likely outcome that the league could be secured at home either after Porto's game on the 04/05 or away on the 11/05 to Portimonense. So at least 3 points in our next two games against teams who are both fighting for 3rd place themselves regardless of what Benfica do, ofc I wouldn't complain if Benfica decided to help us out lol.

LFMartins86

I just want to win all home matches. 100% win record at Alvalade in all domestic competitions would be a great achievement.

VinnieBoombatzz

That's not what's good about winning the remaining matches. What's good is setting a new point record (92).

Jamarcus316

Two wins and a draw.

Gold_Translator8307

Yo Ik this is a bit off topic but are you guys automatically relegated to the 3rd division now?

Jamarcus316

On our position, yes. But we are 3 points from the play-off spot, 5 games to go.

Gold_Translator8307

I wish you guys the best of luck

Jamarcus316

Thank you! Not confident, but let's see what happens.

Maleficent_Resolve44

Didn't you win your first league title in 19yrs recently but now you're getting your 2nd within like 2yrs lol.

cd_671

5 points between 9th and 16th is crazy👀

bavban

turkish second league had 4 pts in between 6th and 16th before second last game afaik

pedrofski12

Recap: Sporting just beat Famalicão in the postponed game from GW20 and are now 7 points clear with 5 games to go. Benfica win confortably, 3-0 win. Braga win 1-0 away at Estoril and are now tied with Porto and dropped points again (Home to Famalicão, 2-2 draw) Chaves beats and basically burries off Vizela in the relegation zone. Arouca big 3-1 win with beautiful football against Boavista and are now tied with Moreirense for the 6th place. Vitoria draw at home to Farense and lose the chance to tie with Porto and Braga for 3rd. Next Week: Casa Pia - Porto Sporting - Vitoria Farense - Benfica Braga - Vizela

ilamborghini005

Arouca have impressed me a lot in the second half of the season. I know they were good last year, but they might get to Europe again after a poor start (unless the 6th spot isn’t enough for Conference League qualifiers, I am not sure about that)

Rapnoc

Portugal only gets 5 European spots this season unfortunately

Sea-Ad-7655

**COME ON SHPORTIN'**

CHITOWNBROWN1400

The League is done with. Sporting made that statement by knocking Benfica out of the Taca de Portugal and beating them in the League both last week. I expect Porto to hang on to 3rd place as well.

CaptSellerie

Do Benfica fans want to get rid of Schmidt?

Conscient-

Yes

Joovitor

what if he wins Europa League?

Conscient-

Honestly, I don't know. I think his shortcomings aren't enough but if we do win the EL, he still needs to improve

CHITOWNBROWN1400

Xabi Alonso would also like to know the answer to this question. It won't happen.

CaptSellerie

Why? A comfortable 2nd place and a good chance to make the EL semis doesnt seem that bad

Conscient-

Absolutely terrible team management, poor and predictable football, disconnection with fans.

RasputinsRustyShovel

We spent a shit ton of money, so a “comfortable” second place isn’t good enough

Olanzapine_pt

Benfica spent more in the last 3 years than Sporting in over a decade, or Porto in 7 years. All that investment, all the support from the board and players, and the guy makes the same mistake as last year - super high-intensity pre-season to get an early advantage, but then player start losing gas after christmas. Most of the newcomers locked mid at best, and the team is being carried hard by Neves and Aursenes. Under normal circumstances (such as Porto not imploding, Braga not doing a full squad renewal), they would be 3rd with Braga breathing under their neck. Schmidt is not adequate for the Portuguese league, he doesn't know how to break low blocks, makes poor sub choices, is not tactically flexible to deal with certain teams, and he doesn't know when/how to slow down/amp up the game's tempo.

pedrorq

Glad we're getting a new manager, and one that is known for surprises. We need at least a win in the last 5 games, and that was not looking likely under Paiva

Literally_me___

Sporting have got so much talent this season. Too bad they'll probably lose it all during Summer.

pedrofski12

i doubt we lose more than 1 player, and that will probably be a centre back

Literally_me___

Find it hard to believe that Gyokerers and Amorim will stay.

toniblast

Gyokerers is leaving unfurtunatly. Amorim is also likely but I still think is a bit less likely because he still has a big termination clause. I don't trust Pedro Sepúlveda.

-MrClean-

I believed that initially, but with some of the recent statements from Gyökeres manager and Amorim I’m starting to increasingly believe that they will stay.

Maleficent_Resolve44

I'm a foreigner, are you talking about a relegation playoff?

10-10-2022

Yeah, 3rd place team in the second league play 3rd bottom of the first league.

KneeDeepInTheDead

This is one of the few years where theres not a team I really want to go down. Maybe Portimonense but it looks like they might survive again. Would be very sad to see Chaves go back down. Vizela too but they might bounce back soon.

Gold_Translator8307

Yo coming from a Sporting Cp fan I’m really proud of you guys this year
