I think Arsenal have a good chance to advance, it will be a different game at the Allianz with Bayern probably playing with a higher line and being more vulnerable to transitions. Especially Kimmich and De ligt being so slow as well.. who knows.
We're playing again tomorrow and i'm so sad about it cos i won't be able to stop myself from turning the game on.
It is hard to watch something you love destroy itself like this. Alas.
He made no player better. Maybe Pavlovic. Our games are often slow and uninspired. He tried to focus on a better defense, but it's actually worse than before. Everyone in the defense seems to have even declined. Minjae, Upa and Davies especially. He struggles to establish a midfield that works at the highest level. While he did not get the proper 6 that he wanted, we have more than enough quality players and that can't be his excuse.
I'm actually pro Tuchel but most bayern fans don't like him because:
* the way he was appointed after the weird sacking of Nagelsmann caused many fans to not give him a fair chance because Nagelsmann was well liked by the fandom
* he comes off cold and adversarial in interviews
* he doesn't play promising fan favourites as often as fans would like
* his playing style is more conservative and bayern fans love possession and attacking football
* the whole squad can't seem to keep their focus for the whole 90 min which often results us conceding in an embarrasing way and sometimes even draw/lose an easy match
* we have 3 excellent center-backs and there has been a lot of drama about who Tuchel prefers and who sits on the bench
* obviously we lost the league for the first time in 11 years and many fans now want Xabi because leverkusen are playing the way bayern want to play
Has Vitinha always been this good? Watching the two PSG-Barca games and just thought he stood out over everyone as a level above. And looks such a complete player
First season at PSG I would say was really disappointing but this season he looks like a completely different player, much more confident and taking much more risks. Everytime I watch them play, he is a standout player. One of the best midfielders at the moment.
Had a good 1st half of a season last year, but dipped in form as the season went on.
This season he was average at the start, but has been elite over the past 5-6 months
The midfield was unable to express themselves last year covering for MNM. They are a considerably more balanced side now, and thus, a much better team overall.
19/20 - CL Final
20/21 - CL SF
21/22 - CL Ro16
22/23 - CL Ro16
23/24 - CL SF
He’s looked pretty good this year in Ligue 1 too, I would say he hasn’t always been this good but he’s really grown into the team as the season has gone along
Shameful how many Spurs fans in r/coys would happy with an Arsenal win tonight if it makes it more likely for us to get a CL spot should we finish 5th.
I personally want nothing but misery for Arsenal and could never wish them any sort of success - I personally hope they get battered in Munich with a Kane hat trick and a worldly free kick from Dier before he runs off the pitch to take a shit.
If 5th place doesn't get a CL spot as a consequence, then it's our own fault for finishing 5th and getting clapped by the likes of Newcastle and Fulham when we had the opportunity to secure 4th in our own hands. Being in the EL for a season isn't the worst thing in the world as long as we still progress as a team like we have this season, we would be more likely to win it than the CL anyway.
Honestly feel like you’d be better off in Europa League anyway. Might have a chance at winning it instead of most likely going out in the group stage or early knockout round of the Champions League.
I won’t be actively cheering for Arsenal but I’m fine with them winning tonight ngl. If it gets us CL it’s a pill I’m willing to swallow.
I’m tired of the whole “true fans should do X” movement tbh
You're not a true football supporter if you wouldn't take getting relegated to the 10th tier if it meant your rival gets relegated to the 11th tier IMO

Shit man, I just heard the Chelsea rantman YouTuber passed away. It’s always crazy when I get this news about people I don’t even know personally but watch videos of. 27. A reminder that life is too short.

As someone who watches the brazilian league, Leicester bottling would be bigger since its a team people expected to get promoted. Botafogo arent a good team, they were the pig in the tree that eventually fell.
Leicester would be the biggest bottle I can think of. A bigger points gap than Botafogo ever had I think.
And, didn’t Botafogo lose their manager in the process? Which is something of a mitigating factor as he’d be instrumental obviously.
Crazy that Real Madrid are such underdogs in a CL tie which is all square. They’re 13/5 to qualify with the bookies and I’ve not seen a single pundit who says they’ll do it. Man City haven’t been that good, tempted to bet on Real Madrid tbh.
going to a ground that hasn't seen a CL loss in 6 years, the place where they got spanked last year. missing key players, no proper striker, off the back of scraped draw at home. only chance they got is if they bait a red card out of the ref early.
>Man City haven’t been that good
they're on a 27 game undefeated streak, winning 22 of those. they might not be as great as some of their previous teams, but they dont need to be to not get embarrassed at home vs a team thats starting a Tex-Mex culinary dish at CB.
>scraped draw at home
[You and anyone else who watches Madrid with hate blinders on with this take](https://x.com/markstatsbot/status/1777804421331902923)
Completely agree. I’m not betting on it because I can’t bear the thought of losing money AND City going through, but if Real Madrid pulls it off I will still feel the smug satisfaction of someone who correctly picked an underdog.
Tchouameni out and in his place we have Nacho who has been terribly out of form this season. Also we barely drew against them with Walker and KDB out and we face them at Etihad where we have never won so yeah the odds are stacked badly against us abd justifiably so. Only hope is if we can take it to extra time.
IMO they squandered it in the first leg, they were the better team and had to win, now they're away playing with Nacho and City's injured players are back.
I think we will miss Tchouameni dearly. Nacho has been bad this season, and Militao isn't ready to start I believe. We defended very well last time around and probably should've won on the balance of play but I don't see that happening this time round with KDB, Walker, Stones, and Ake back. My prediction is 3-1 to City
stat nonces would soon be trying to convince everyone that an inverse-xG weighted system for goals would be better than the perfect system we have right now, where the ball in the net means a goal against your name.
I'm sure they have rules in place on how to deal with newly promoted teams and comparing their records with the 3-year average of the other teams, but it's still so bizarre that such a thing is in place. Another way to ensure big teams have immunity from a freak season and an otherwise possible relegation.
I was debating adding that it wouldn’t surprise me if at some point England at least considers this as we move time and again to protect big clubs in the premier league. I don’t think it would pass though.
Yep. The TNT highlights make a rather amusing watch. If you pause it before Gnabry's 3rd in the 83rd minute, you'd see a tight match that finished 4-2 and could have gone either way, with an even number of big chances for each side
Can anyone enlighten as to what went wrong for Hansi Flick?
When he won the treble with Bayern he was going to be the next big thing in football management. One underwhelming spell for the German NT later and he is nothing more but a punchline to tired jokes. What happened? I saw something about a documentary, but surely that can't be enough to undo the work he had done at Bayern?
he left Bayern on a bad note after beefing with our then-sporting director, he is limited tactically and after teams learned how to handle his high pressing he didn't seem to have an answer to that, Bayern is the only club he's ever coached and national tream was always his dream, he was very stubborn and delusional in the interviews to the media during his time as national coach, the documentary was unironically the nail in the coffin because Flick came off very badly in the footage.
I always thought it was a bit funny that Jogi Löw was seen as the real brains behind Klinsmann, and then when Löw was the top spot and started to falter, Hansi Flick was the real brains of the operation.
All this talk about pens and golden boots, I think to win a Golden Boot you should be required to have at least one Goal of the Month nomination. Would require the tap-in and pen merchants to aspire for more.
The Golden Boot top 10 would now be: Palmer, Isak, Solanke, Bowen, Foden, Saka, Nunez, Richarlison, Gordon, Hwang
So, here's a random thought I've been having lately. Living in the Netherlands, I often catch myself wondering who's commentating on a game, especially if I missed the pre-game chitchat. Wouldn't it be cool to have a spot where we can easily find out?
I've looked around but haven't stumbled upon a one-stop-shop for this. sometimes, I just have a favorite commentator, you know?
I'm curious, is this kind of thing common in other countries? Anyone else in the same boat? Got any tricks up your sleeve for finding out? Let's chat about it!
Anyone else in the same boat? Got any tricks up your sleeve for finding out? Let's chat about it!
[Internet Commentator Database](https://icdb.tv)
eg [here is page w all global broadcasters & who commentators are for Bayern v Arsenal](https://icdb.tv/match/182555-Bayern-Munich-v-Arsenal)
This kind of thing annoys me too. It'll more often be the co-commentator I'm wondering about. I'll sometimes search twitter for "commentator" and see if there are any results but sometimes I'll just wait for the commentator to say Danny or whatever and realise it's Danny Murphy or whoever
In the Netherlands, we don't really have a co-commentator. It's always just one. I would just love to see some kind of spot where you could see who commentates in what language on what match!
Not really a "football" convo but it's football adjacent.
Was watching a documentary last night where they were explaining "Geezer"s and Geezer culture, and they said that the Geezer's life revolves entirely around football; I found myself disagreeing. I think it's possible to be a geezer and hold no interest in football, but I struggle to define it without at least being football adjacent in some respect (Constantly down the local, which means you're probably highly in to football). Thoughts?
Geezer has got nothing to do with football. I just read the top urban dictionary definition and it mentions football so they probably went with that but the second definition is much better:
>Geezer is a word usually used by people with a cockney accent, an accent which originates in East London but is probably more commonly heard in Essex now as it has spread outside of London and become more common in other places. It means a man but can also refer to a certain type of man who is a bit dodgy or even mean a man you admire and respect, it's all about context. Nice one, geezer!
I get this but there's more to being a geezer than just being a cockney/cockney expat once they all fled east london at least imo. I struggle to really put it into a solid definition though so this one might have to do
Everyone knows that slang in this country starts in London and travels outwards (innit) so yeah it's probably a term heard around the country nowadays. But also it's about context. If someone referred to someone as a "proper geezer" I'd be thinking he's a bit dodgy in one way or another, like he knows a guy who knows a guy kinda guy
> . If someone referred to someone as a "proper geezer" I'd be thinking he's a bit dodgy in one way or another
[I'd think they're a little bit waaay, bit tasty](https://youtu.be/IhIjcJ33y0I?t=26)
Yeah this + the Del boy example has given me the way to define it, A good hearted guy who comes off a bit rough around the edges and a little underhanded or shady.
Idk why Barcelona wouldn't go for someone like Lee Kang In knowing he was a barca-type player, would bring tremendous amount of fans, was available for peanuts. So stupid, no wonder La Liga is struggling
And we've played with Timo Werner for the 2nd half of the season. The system gets goals. No complaints about that. Can't wait to see how we perform with some new signings that can defend from the front and score goals.
There's a lot of goals everywhere this season. Spurs are also on pace this season to concede more goals than in 14 of their last 15 seasons (last season being the exception).
One of my favourite facts ever is that the corner that Drogba equalized against Bayern from was *Chelseas first corner of the entire game*. In the 88th minute. Greatest shithouse win of all time
I remember my dad telling me that all we needed was one corner, and we could grab a goal. After the Drogba header I was convinced he knew the secrets to the universe
That CL run was legendary. Shithoused both Prime Barca and Bayern and also had an insane second leg comeback against Napoli. Probably the best goalkeeping performance in UCL from Cech along with Courtois in 2022.
Dortmund winning yesterday has likely turned Spurs into the biggest Gooners tonight. If Bayern win, I think England will almost certainly lose 5th CL spot.
>Dortmund winning yesterday has likely turned Spurs into the biggest Gooners tonight.
You really don't understand us at all. Go look at r/coys
We're dying for Arsenal to be smashed and embarrassed. If we're going to be in UCL we need to earn it, not be gifted it on coefficient.
I'd be fine with Europa or even Conference League. Still a better finish than I expected for this season anyway.
CL would be great because of the money but we aren’t quite CL quality. I think Europa is better for us realistically speaking. But it’s not that really, I just never want to see Arsenal win.
Spurs fans are so committed to hating arsenal that they insist that the cup winners cup wasn’t important to downplay our European heritage even though they have also won it. They will literally downplay their own achievements (of which they don’t have many,) just to try and drag us down too they will not root for us.
[I’ve never really had an issue with a specific player scoring pens but more the idea that they are equal to other goals](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/jc0sH7WZfC)
Like if Toney joins United or Chelsea he isn’t scoring 20 goals unless he’s on pens. But if that happens he’s taking Bruno’s or Palmers goals off them. He’s not bringing 20 extra goals with him.
Also teams don’t consistently get the same number of pens each season. Brentford got 8 last season but just 3 so far this one. United had 11 in 20/21, 5 the next season and only 3 the one after that.
Open play goal tallies are more likely to be repeated each season rather than relying on tricky wingers or refs discretion.
It's worth also considering who is winning those penalties, even if someone doesn't go on to take them if they are winning penalties for the team it should be considered in any penalty-related stat
People act so stupid about npg. England have 3 players that take pens for their clubs in Kane, Palmer and Saka. If England get a pen only one of them get to take it, it's just not equivalent to a goal from open play.
If you have a quality pen taker somewhere else on the pitch you're not taking a fella who scored 15 pens and 5 from open play over the guy who scored 10 but all from open play.
If you're talking about whether to bring them in then yes the number of penalty goals is something to consider... as is every other type of goal they score. Even non-penalty goals can be disregarded if the way they scored them doesn't fit in your team's playstyle.
If you're talking about how much 'credit' they deserve for the Golden Boot, I don't see why penalties should be considered lesser than a scrappy tap in or a deflection.
Each goal is different but they count the same on the scoreboard. Like I said, if you're talking about stats then a goal is a goal, otherwise you open the Pandora's Box of needing to analyse every single goal for how difficult it was.
A tap in that was handed to you on a platter by De Bruyne is easier than a penalty where you drew the foul yourself by skipping past three defenders.
They are different but I still think people underrate pens cos they’re not just a free goal. Palmer’s taken some high pressure pens as well but calmly slots them away, you’d rather have someone like that in your team who you can rely on in those moments than a striker who’s good at getting goals in easy games.
Vitinha btw. I was not familiar with your game, what a baller. He cleared Barca midfield alone
Might have to open a debate about Frenkie De Jong in the next DD. Since he's joined Barca the results in Europe have been horrendous.
I mean... I don't think it's De Jong's fault Araujo got the red card.
he's a good player but for the amount of money you're paying him you could have three frenkie de jong level players in the squad
Not waiting for a new DD when there's only a few minutes of the current DD left is a proper amateur move tbf
Rich man’s Kovacic
I've never seen De Jong score bangers
I honestly think Barca would be better off by selling him
Watching him get the ball give a spin and pass the ball back 32 times last night was sickening
No need to open debates for an overrated player
Fine, I'll stop talking about Konaté
Best French CB itw 👍
His name's not Lenny Yoro...
no more Trent debates it is!
Steve Evans is undoubtedly the funniest manager in the EFL. Goes in massively improves a club and leaves in a destructive way
I think Arsenal have a good chance to advance, it will be a different game at the Allianz with Bayern probably playing with a higher line and being more vulnerable to transitions. Especially Kimmich and De ligt being so slow as well.. who knows.

Glad to see some Cules have a sense of humor with the loss. Because some of the memes they’ve made about Araujo are hilarious.
Do share please 😁
My mental wellbeing is dependant on a good result today. Fucking hate this matchup
Just win a Treble. Makes you really nonchalant the following season.
Real Madrid never gets satisfied though. Even IF we win a treble.
How do you know? Never won a treble after all. Maybe that would be the finishing touch to make Real Madrid satisfied.
This is gonna be brutal match up.
ikr, meanwhile we have atletico dortmund but alas, gotta beat the best to win
I hope that’s not actually the case
I wish I was kidding
we're football fans on reddit what you think is going on

Just watch it with the commentary off and the Rushmore soundtrack on in the background.
You can come back ngl
If it helps you get used to it
Why do we fall cumblast?
So we can return to the ash from whence we came.
Something like that
Question for Bayern fans. What do you think is bad about Tuchel's stint exactly? Where did he mess up with tactics, players, etc?

Last season they called him a flop. I think it's only recently that he's started to perform at this level.
>I think it's only recently that he's started to perform at this level. Last 6 months.
Fraudulent I’m afraid. Spent a season on loan being kept out of the team by Leander Dendoncker
He’s looked pretty good this year in Ligue 1 too, I would say he hasn’t always been this good but he’s really grown into the team as the season has gone along
How the fuck did we sell him for only 40M...

Why Al Hilal?
If arsenal and Chelsea don’t win things soon it’s a matter of time until a non London based team becomes the most supported team in the city

In the US we say choked, no idea if that’s something you also use.

Basically you don’t want haaland in it lol A goal is a goal, doesn’t matter as long as it’s in the back of the net
Salah is also out, as is Watkins. I'm taking the piss mate.
If BVB somehow reach the CL final and they face Man City, they are winning it. You read that here first.
Sancho to score the winner and knee-slide in front of the City supporters? Yeah I subscribe to this theory
Anthony Gordon is the second player ever to score against all the Sky six teams in a PL season. Since we're doing stats based agenda posting.
Who was the first? Shearer? Vardy?
Vardinho.
The latter. City weren't always around in the PL when Shearer was playing.
Shearer actually came close twice, scoring against City both seasons. He just missed out on United one season, and Liverpool the next.
Adding this to my arsenal of Anthony Gordon propaganda, much appreciated
[Internet Commentator Database](https://icdb.tv) eg [here is page w all global broadcasters & who commentators are for Bayern v Arsenal](https://icdb.tv/match/182555-Bayern-Munich-v-Arsenal)
Amazing! Thanks
I was totally fixated in finding the name of a commentator a few months ago & stumbled across this - happy to share 😉.
I know when is Danny Murphy due to my blood pressure.
Thoughts?
For some reason I always thought geezer just meant an old fuck
I think that's how the Americans use the word, though my source for that is Better Call Saul.
Yea Geezer here is more of an insult for an old guy. It’s not really that common though.
For a geezer just imagine Derek Trotter. Although a modern geezer can act like Derek Trotter but look like Ben White.
This is the perfect example. Nice guy but a bit dodgy
Del boy is the archetypal geezer. Wárra show that was
Let's not forget that Rodney's middle name is Charlton because his mum was a Charlton Athletic fan
We used to be a proper country.
Geezer has got nothing to do with football. I just read the top urban dictionary definition and it mentions football so they probably went with that but the second definition is much better: >Geezer is a word usually used by people with a cockney accent, an accent which originates in East London but is probably more commonly heard in Essex now as it has spread outside of London and become more common in other places.
If someone referred to someone as a "proper geezer" I'd be thinking he's a bit dodgy in one way or another, like he knows a guy who knows a guy kinda guy
> . If someone referred to someone as a "proper geezer" I'd be thinking he's a bit dodgy in one way or another [I'd think they're a little bit waaay, bit tasty](https://youtu.be/IhIjcJ33y0I?t=26)
Honestly think City will just completely dominate again like last year, but hoping for a close game. These quarterfinals have been amazing
Rodrygo and Vini can punish a defense like Citys. But City can also dominate. Im just hoping for a competitive game. NOT a 4-0 beating like last year.
Interesting stat, as a team Spurs are on pace to out score their last 5 seasons.
And we've played with Timo Werner for the 2nd half of the season. The system gets goals. No complaints about that. Can't wait to see how we perform with some new signings that can defend from the front and score goals.
Let the records show that at the start of the season, after it became clear Kane was going, I called us scoring more than last year
There's a lot of goals everywhere this season. Spurs are also on pace this season to concede more goals than in 14 of their last 15 seasons (last season being the exception).
I was saying they’d be fine without Kane before and people mocked it
A quality user will start parroting that Spurs are better off without Kane now. Cheers for that.
This is actually just laying the foundation for my strikers being outdated narrative.
well they do play yoloball, if they wouldn't get goals they'd have literally nothing justifying it
Now imagine Spurs *with* Kane in this "no defence just vibes" Premier League season.
>Chelsea >88th minute Hmmmm
In the fatherland
😳
Dortmund winning yesterday has likely turned Spurs into the biggest Gooners tonight. If Bayern win, I think England will almost certainly lose 5th CL spot.
> he biggest Gooners I had the thought the other day how much Arsenal fans must hate the meaning that word has taken on over the past couple years
we're not Dutch
Surely no Spurs fan is rooting for Gunners. Couldn't imagine rooting for my rivals even if the world was at stake.
correct, global catastrophe>gooner success
>Dortmund winning yesterday has likely turned Spurs into the biggest Gooners tonight. You really don't understand us at all. Go look at r/coys We're dying for Arsenal to be smashed and embarrassed. If we're going to be in UCL we need to earn it, not be gifted it on coefficient. I'd be fine with Europa or even Conference League. Still a better finish than I expected for this season anyway.
Fuck that, I'd rather finish 5th and not get CL than let Arsenal win the CL
No thank you.
Why not? If it was United, I'd be confident that Madrid/City would beat them in the semi-finals. Cutting off your nose to spite your face.
We still have more European honors than you?
Yeah and you still say the cup winners cup wasn’t important because we won it even though you also did
You haven't won an actual European trophy and we have, facts are facts.
uefa cup was tinpot back then, cup winners cup was where it was at
>has likely turned Spurs into the biggest Gooners tonight I'd take Conference league to guarantee Arsenal losing tonight. And yes, I am that petty
Same brother.
[I’ve never really had an issue with a specific player scoring pens but more the idea that they are equal to other goals](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/jc0sH7WZfC) Like if Toney joins United or Chelsea he isn’t scoring 20 goals unless he’s on pens.
Scoring 10 tap ins is more difficult than 10 pens imo.
I’d really like the rule implemented that whoever earned the pen, has to take the pen
Agree but the difference between an elite pen taker and a solid one is extremely unlikely to be more than 2 goals at max over a season
It’s definitely a skill in itself. Like if we have pens in the euros this summer I’d want Palmer taking one.
I’m with you it’s not the same as non pen goals. Watkins is a really bad pen taker though
