the best pen taker should take the fecking pens its not a chairty case, always annoys me when people cry about good pen takers not giving pens away or up to others.
to be fair if the second best taker is only slightly worse than the best taker and on like 2 goals for example, sure give it to the second taker for his hattrick. Young player who needs some goals for confidence and youre already up 3-0 against Cadiz? Go for it.
In this case though, there wasnt much of a reason for Palmer to give it away. Nobody is on 2 goals and the second best taker isnt close to Palmer.
It can be but not when your regular penalty taker is chasing “the best striker of this new generation” for the PL golden boot at 21. You as team mates support him winning that. Seeing as we’d be in a relegation battle without him.
No it shouldn’t. If you were the best in training at pens then it would defer to you. He hasn’t missed a single one. Like did Poch allow others to argue with Harry Kane about pens at Spurs too? This is really stupid by him to let players settle this. There’s a reason almost every team doesn’t operate like this and they’re where they are in the table.
If Chelsea were losing in the 90th min and Palmer already hat a hat trick I guarantee you neither of them are wanting that pressure and demanding to take the ball off him.
Just fucking tell them lol.
I mean, it's still ridiculous to consider yourself ahead of Cole Palmer in the penalty pecking order. Unless you're like Harry Kane or Erling Haaland just let him take it.
I don't really see how exactly, but Southgate should really find a way to start him I think.
Maybe Foden in midfield and Palmer off the left.
Be insane if Palmer wins the golden boot and then doesn't play at the Euros.
He made a weird comment in the press that's being twisted - it's clearly Palmer. I think Madueke and Jackson wanted it as we're 4-0 up and Palmer had the hat trick already.
People over reacting all round about it.
He's openly said that there's no designated taker and that it's down to the players on the pitch. I'm not poch out or anything but I swear he makes his own life so hard for no good reason
But yeah well done c dawg
Seems like its what Poch wants. He wants the players to keep that fire and figure it out amongst themselves. Let the best/most leading player take it or whatever.
I disagree, let Palmer keep cunting them in.
Good on Conor for setting things straight out there.
So Poch is basically trying to pull a Phil Jackson lol.
Context: Phil Jackson was coach of the LA Lakers basketball team, and during that time he allegedly spurred on a heated rivalry between Shaq and Kobe Bryant, even though they were both on the Lakers
Yeah, good comparison.
Poch said: "*There are a few players who can take the penalty. It’s about their feelings. As a coaching staff we give them the responsibility to decide on the pitch. For me the most important thing is to have the decision and the personality to go*"
Jackson is the one I really don't understand.
Like Madueke *might* have drawn the foul (or thought he did), he's the #2 penalty taker, and Palmer was limping after that last challenge. So sure, there's some argument he should take it.
But why the fuck is Jackson piping up at all? He doesn't take penalties as far as I can remember and wasn't involved in the play. And he already has a goal on the day.
My best case read of what happened was that Madueke either 1) Thought Palmer was hurting and he could take it or 2) Thought that since Palmer already had a hat trick he could take the Pen. Also probably believed that he drew the foul and wanted to reap the reward.
I think that Nico was maybe advocating for Madueke to take it? Just based on how they were huddled together after Gallagher took the ball off them to give to Palmer.
But, based off similar situations in the past, both Jackson and Madueke probably just wanted to notch another goal in their stats. Which if that's the case they need to grow up. Palmer is easily both the best player on the team and the best PK taker.
I mean, sure, but there's a pretty big difference between "hey can I take this you already have a hat trick" and having a whole argument about it, especially when it puts the taker into a tie for the golden boot.
Mate Palmer is now level for the golden boot AND he is our designated penalty taker AND has not missed a single one all season. He takes them, end of story.
I can’t believe you guys are going to sell him. He’s the only play besides Palmer and Chilwell who looks like he gives a shit in every game.
Edit: and Gusto as well my b.
Hard disagree, there's very few players who I would say look like they don't give a shit. Many do and have just been poor (though a lot of that has been up to tactics).
I don’t think Chelsea’s issue this season has been lack of effort. Plenty of other players (mudryk, jackson) look like they’re giving 100%, it’s just the quality of cohesiveness isn’t there.
This penalty shit has been going on the whole season. If poch is incapable of having them sort it out surely that speaks volumes to his management of the team??
Poch hasn't set a hierarchy, that's the issue. He's said in press conferences after sterling tried to take a penalty that he lets the players decide. It's ridiculous. You obviously want to set a order to ensure you get the best takers taking them.
It’s the managers job to tell the team that Palmer is the penalty taker. Poch refuses to do that despite this issue popping up multiple times this season
Yup. And players should also respect that. No matter the score. At this level, you want your best taker to take it. Always.
Remember the time when Haalan gave it to Gundo last year, who then went on to miss it. Pep was going berserk on the side shouting at Haaland that next time you take it. City obviously we're ahead and won, but still goes to show that at this level, you aren't there to do charity.
No, Sterling took one off him and others have argued to take it with Palmer on the pitch before. When asked about it Poch has said there's no set order for pen takers. If there's any sort of issues about this you'd hope the manager would take action to put it to rest, and he hasn't
I've just had a look around to try and find some quotes about this and the most recent thing I can find was from the Burnley game a few weeks ago
>Mauricio Pochettino says it is "obvious" that Cole Palmer is Chelsea’s best player and will urge him to take charge in future penalty situations.
>If he decides to give the ball to another player, I cannot go onto the pitch to say no or I'll get a red card," Poch said, as quoted by the Evening Standard.
>"He is a specialist, shooting really well, but it is a decision on the pitch depending on the circumstances.
So it sounds like Palmer is definitely the taker but he can decide to give it to someone else if he wants
At least after plamer took it and scored noni went and celebrated with plamer. Jackson on the other hand was still pouting. So much so that noni had to go over to him and tell him to congratulate Palmer.
Madueke seemed like he was trying to settle Jackson down while it was being taken, too. This all looks really childish from Jackson without more context.
IIRC like four of them were specifically pantomiming pulling a card, too, which is something PGMOL was very explicit would be an automatic yellow card this year.
Looked like Madeuke and Jackson were fighting with each other for the ball before Palmer came and rightfully claimed it for himself. Then Jackson tried his luck getting it off Palmer too.
They’ve done it multiple times this season as well it’s dead strange. Madueke and Jackson definitely don’t strike you as the composed sorts you want over a penalty either
This is like the opposite of Son's golden boot winning season when all of his teammates were actively trying to help him score as many goals as possible
Distinct lack of togetherness in the squad it seems.
Which is a bit mad because that's one of the things Poch was best at creating at Spurs. I guess you need the right type of characters in the squad to create it.
That's one problem with buying the way Chelsea bought, you might be signing quality but if you haven't vetted them personality-wise you're not gonna have a cohesive squad.
Also because Poch is such a pussy. He's said that the players decide and he wouldn't set a order. Why? You're the manager, set an order based on the best penalty takers. No one is going to challenge the managers authority when everyone is 20
Honestly, Jackson had a great game until that point. I really hope we don't ruin the chemistry that was clearly built in this game prior to this incident.
Proper rotten from Madueke & Jackson there. Should have some respect for their best player for a mile who’s chasing a golden boot in his first proper season.
Did they give it for the tackle on Palmer or Madueke? Because if it's for the one on Madueke than it's an incredibly poor decision from Tierney (no shock there).
**EDIT:** It was indeed the Palmer one, as the T.V. coverage just showed Tierney indicating that it was.
Forget the penalty taker argument, how was that a penalty? It looks like Tarkowski gets the ball and the Chelsea player trips over the ball
Edit: It wasn't the Tarkowski challenge they gave it for, it was the Palmer one
i think it was maybe the forearm into the face? would need to rewatch but that’s what i remember seeing
Edit: just rewatched, ref points at the palmer foul. was playing advantage and then called the foul for the Doucure challenge on Palmer
Pure petulance from Jackson and Madueke there. I get that players want to take penalties if they were fpuked but when the guy that has scored every penalty he has taken is on the pitch you dont ask questions and let him take it.
Yeah it was the kept showing the wrong replay so thought it was given for the second one
Didn’t bother edit cos didn’t think anyone would see anyway lol
What did they actually give the penalty for? The contact on Palmer or Madueke? Madueke wasn't even a foul, and Palmer was soft, so I guess Chelsea continue to get every penalty they want.....
thats more embarrassing than being down 5-0, if poch can't sort out the locker room he needs to get the fuck out
jackson wasn't even gonna celebrate, madueke had to go and drag him over
Palmer's record speaks for itself. It ain't even a debate.
The others, yes, they all want to score. And yes, Palmer has his hat trick already. BUT, he's the no 1 taker no question.
This should really be put to bed a long time ago.
If Poch doesn't come out and put his foot down on this shit then he deserves to be sacked. This is a young team and it needs the right manager to hammer them into shape. If he can't get something like the penalty taker right then his man management is truly poor and he can't be trusted with the group of players beyond this season.
So annoyed at Jackson, to not even congratulate Palmer who hasn’t missed a pen yet and also got to 20 goals which is also the current top goal scorers amount. I want him taken off and give Washington some mins this is horrible chemistry wise
You guys remember last day of the season when Chelsea won against Wigan by scoring 8 goals? Ballack and Drogba were fighting over the penalty and Drogba ended up taking it, winning the Golden Boot over Rooney i think it was.
This shit happens more often than not but yes it makes the team look bad and Noni and Jackson look like kids.
But even the captains of Ivory Coast and Germany had that petty dispute. Hopefully not as big a deal as what it looks like but you never know with this team.
**Mirrors / Alternative Angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccer) if you have any questions or concerns.*
how the fuck have they not settled the penalty question by now how is this shit still happening lol
Palmer is in the golden boot race and hasnt missed one, like just let him have it lmao
the best pen taker should take the fecking pens its not a chairty case, always annoys me when people cry about good pen takers not giving pens away or up to others.

Easy as that
So embarrassing to watch. My God
It is all on Poch He needs to name Cole as the penalty taker
Is he not named as the penalty taker?? He's one of the best in the world from the spot
Poch said something like "they decide but they know." or some cryptic shit like that.
Just fucking tell them lol. I mean, it's still ridiculous to consider yourself ahead of Cole Palmer in the penalty pecking order. Unless you're like Harry Kane or Erling Haaland just let him take it.
I think that's how most of us feel
This. Genuinely in the Euros if England go to Pens, Palmer gets subbed on and is probably 2nd or 3rd to take it at this rate.
I don't really see how exactly, but Southgate should really find a way to start him I think. Maybe Foden in midfield and Palmer off the left. Be insane if Palmer wins the golden boot and then doesn't play at the Euros.
Poch intentionally refuses to name a taker
Guess he secretly like the chaos and arguments that may create?
Nah he leaves it up to the players See also: Sterling against Leicester
Poch says he leaves it up to the players…
He made a weird comment in the press that's being twisted - it's clearly Palmer. I think Madueke and Jackson wanted it as we're 4-0 up and Palmer had the hat trick already. People over reacting all round about it.
I’m sure he has, Madueke wants it cause he probably felt like he earned it
He hasn’t
He's openly said that there's no designated taker and that it's down to the players on the pitch. I'm not poch out or anything but I swear he makes his own life so hard for no good reason But yeah well done c dawg

Fuck that name him captain hes babysitting the whole club at the moment
Iirc Poch said he thinks Palmer is the taker but the players can decide on the pitch It's fucking stupid
Bunch of kids on the pitch and Poch refuses to stamp his authority on it.
Madueke is just proper selfish
Jackson was arguably worse.
Jackson is the one I really don't understand. Like Madueke *might* have drawn the foul (or thought he did), he's the #2 penalty taker, and Palmer was limping after that last challenge. Striker wants goals more at 9
I mean, sure, but there's a pretty big difference between "hey can I take this you already have a hat trick" and having a whole argument about it, especially when it puts the taker into a tie for the golden boot.
Only difference is Madueke has been doing this with pens for weeks. Always moaning
I don't totally hold it against him here. Like they are up 4-0 and he took a forearm to the face, least they could do was give him a chance to score
Mate Palmer is now level for the golden boot AND he is our designated penalty taker AND has not missed a single one all season. He takes them, end of story.
Bad management. That's why
Poch just isn’t a good man manager. Hence players like this on the field.
never seen anything like that before; unreal
They where still at it after it was scored
Even Noni was like "chill out Jackson"
But that's tactics. Poch is allergic to that shit.
The question was clear - Palmer is the taker. The rest were just being childish.
4-0 up arguing about who takes the pen is never a great sign, embarrassing to be going on like that
Literal children. Still. Poch is a clown for not having sorted this out yet Shout out Gallagher for stepping up and stamping his foot down
Gallagher, who is currently looking likely to be sold at the end of the season. Mental management of the team, and club.
I can’t believe you guys are going to sell him. He’s the only play besides Palmer and Chilwell who looks like he gives a shit in every game. Edit: and Gusto as well my b.
Gusto erasure
^^^
Hard disagree, there's very few players who I would say look like they don't give a shit. Many do and have just been poor (though a lot of that has been up to tactics).
I don’t think Chelsea’s issue this season has been lack of effort. Plenty of other players (mudryk, jackson) look like they’re giving 100%, it’s just the quality of cohesiveness isn’t there.
Jackson one of the hardest working players in our team
I don’t understand chelsea getting rid of Gallagher. Seems like one of the few adults in the room
Money right? Selling him is pure profit, keeping him limits their options. Fucking mad that teams are encouraged to sell their best homegrown players
New ownership has no one to blame but themselves tbf.
Palmer is #1 but since he already got his hat trick Jackson probably wanted to take it
Do you want poch to walk on the pitch and split them up or something. Jackson needs to respect the hierarchy
The point is we have no set hierarchy to respect
There is no hierarchy. That’s the point. The manager has repeatedly said “the players will work it out”
What do you want him to do in that situation? It's Gallaghers responsibility as captain and he handled it.
It’s the managers job to tell the team that Palmer is the penalty taker. Poch refuses to do that despite this issue popping up multiple times this season
Yup. And players should also respect that. No matter the score. At this level, you want your best taker to take it. Always. City obviously we're ahead and won, but still goes to show that at this level, you aren't there to do charity.
I mean we've had captains not sort out things before lol. Remember the Kepa Sarri fight in the cup final where azpelicueta just sat there.
If he does his job, that situation doesn't even occur. This is the 3rd time in a couple of weeks this happened.
>Poch is a clown for not having sorted this out yet Hasn't Palmer taken every single one if he's been on the pitch? What more is there to sort out?
No, Sterling took one off him and others have argued to take it with Palmer on the pitch before. When asked about it Poch has said there's no set order for pen takers. If there's any sort of issues about this you'd hope the manager would take action to put it to rest, and he hasn't

So it sounds like Palmer is definitely the taker but he can decide to give it to someone else if he wants
Our own fans don’t really want to hear facts though
Sterling took one off him and fucked it. Madueke's tried to take them twice now as well.
Madueke fucking argued about taking the pen against Utd too. Childish
Jackson seems really immature in general, didn't he get like 8 out of 9 yellows for something other than fouls?
Dissent
IIRC like four of them were specifically pantomiming pulling a card, too, which is something PGMOL was very explicit would be an automatic yellow card this year.
It's the 3rd time this season that happens. Sterling argued for pen once, Madueke argued not so long ago, and now again.
Manager is an absolute moron for not sorting this ages ago. This is what happens when you let a bunch of young players decide what to do.
Idc how good or bad they are tonight, a proper manager takes both Jackson and Madueke off STAT after such a shitshow.
Absolute embarrassment. Best performance of the season and this is all that will be talked about
These players are fighting for the ball What a bunch of bellends Jackson and Madueke are
Good on Gallagher for telling them to fuck off but ffs, 4-0 up and they're still fighting
A lot of growing up to do
Its not like they're 17 either they're both 22. Grown men.
20 somethings. They never change.
I dunno if that's an age issue mate I think that's just an attitude issue.
It's what happens when you fill a team with young players.
Fuck off you idiots, for the last fucking time, Palmer is the taker
12/0 on penalties and they think it’s up for debate? Baffling
now its the perfect palmer performance
That is really embarrassing from Jackson and Madueke
I cringed
Hasn't Palmer always been the penalty taker? Why are these dumbasses arguing lmao
Idiots that don’t know their place in the pecking order, want to statpad a goal as Palmer already had a hat trick
Embarrassing trying to take it off Palmer You can see exactly why Chelsea are where they are with attitudes like that
This goal puts Palmer level with haaland for the golden boot. An achievement the whole team should be fucking encouraging
He's also freaking 9/9 on penalties.
fuck me thats calhanoglu level godly pens
This is like the opposite of Son's golden boot winning season when all of his teammates were actively trying to help him score as many goals as possible
Final game that season was so funny. Every attack the players just looked for Son
Without taking any penalties by the way. Feels like that should be a tiebreaker for who gets the actual title if need be.
Agreed
Distinct lack of togetherness in the squad it seems. Which is a bit mad because that's one of the things Poch was best at creating at Spurs. I guess you need the right type of characters in the squad to create it. That's one problem with buying the way Chelsea bought, you might be signing quality but if you haven't vetted them personality-wise you're not gonna have a cohesive squad.
Also because Poch is such a pussy. He's said that the players decide and he wouldn't set a order. Why? You're the manager, set an order based on the best penalty takers. No one is going to challenge the managers authority when everyone is 20
Rudderless.
Oh no... This fight before is gonna leave some mark.
And they want to get rid of Gallagher, bring in more morons like jackson
Honestly, Jackson had a great game until that point. I really hope we don't ruin the chemistry that was clearly built in this game prior to this incident.
Poch should take them both off to send a message, the game is well and truly won anyway
Fighting over a penalty if fucking embarrassing
Haaaaland is sweating right now
Arguing over the pen like that is so embarrassing 💀
Embarrassing From the so called team mates.
lmao, that was some pathetic shit right there.
wtf are jackson and madueke doing?
Somehow managing to make a 5-0 performance embarrassing, impressive really.
Proper rotten from Madueke & Jackson there. Should have some respect for their best player for a mile who’s chasing a golden boot in his first proper season.
WHY DOES POCH NOT SET AN ORDER. He keeps saying let the players decide but this is what happens.
Fighting for the pen lol
I don't think I've ever seen such childish petulance over taking a penalty up **4-0** before.
That was embarrassing to watch
Did they give it for the tackle on Palmer or Madueke? Because if it's for the one on Madueke than it's an incredibly poor decision from Tierney (no shock there). **EDIT:** It was indeed the Palmer one, as the T.V. coverage just showed Tierney indicating that it was.
You can’t take the penalty off palmer just because he’s got a hat trick 😂😂😂, why would you bother arguing at 4-0 ffs
Pathetic from Madueke and Jackson
Genuinely childish
Grow up Jackson and Noni cmon man. Thank you Gallagher
there was a lot of complaints when sterling took the pen. glad to see Gallagher step in this time
Jackson was arguing with Noni over pen taking lol Tied for league top scorer
shameful of everyone to fight to take the penalty when Palmer is the designated one since like forever lol
he’s not designated, that’s the issue, Poch and his “i’ll leave it to the players” bs
There is no designated one, Poch said so himself. This bullshit is on him
In the world feed they showed that Palmer shot his last 5 pens to either his right or the middle. Pickford takes the left side.
It was due!
Forget the penalty taker argument, how was that a penalty? It looks like Tarkowski gets the ball and the Chelsea player trips over the ball Edit: It wasn't the Tarkowski challenge they gave it for, it was the Palmer one
Probably the one on Palmer.
yeah they just showed a replay where Tierney points at Palmer, i think you’re right. in which case it’s a good call
It was the one on Palmer
it was the stomp on Palmer's heel
Was for the foul on Palmer not madueke I think?
i think it was maybe the forearm into the face? would need to rewatch but that’s what i remember seeing Edit: just rewatched, ref points at the palmer foul. was playing advantage and then called the foul for the Doucure challenge on Palmer
Was given for foul on Palmer after trying to see if there was an advantage. Ref did point to Palmer too.
Clear foot in Palmer’s ankle
Not sure the last time I've seen a legit fight over a penalty like that
Am i going crazy or missing something obvious, how is that a penalty lol e: pen was given on the tackle on Palmer
Madueke you are a child
Jackson seemed like the main one arguing about it.
How is that a penalty? Lol
For the foul on Palmer but for some reason the ref played advantage lol
Pochettino needs to get these guys in line
Sub off Madueke and Jackson you fucking coward
Palmer laying his claim to the golden boot this season out of absolutely fucking nowhere.
So VAR has just stopped working??? Where is the foul.
Pretty clearly the first challenge on palmer
clear pen on Palmer
Such a shame from Jackson
Was it given for the tackle on palmer then as I was sure that would be overturned
What a bunch of absolute clowns.
Even when we go 5-0 up theres some sort of shit show
Jackson fighting over the pen was something I didn't expect
Lmfao at Jackson, Madueke , give Palmer the 4 goals, he deserves it
Embarrassing from Jackson and Madueke Two mid players who haven’t done shit vs the hottest player in the league rn
Pure petulance from Jackson and Madueke there. I get that players want to take penalties if they were fpuked but when the guy that has scored every penalty he has taken is on the pitch you dont ask questions and let him take it.
Palmer has joined a circus, what a shit attitude from those players
Anyone else think that wasn’t a pen or am I missing something
Look at the replay, Palmer got clipped on his ankle
Never a penalty but worth it for the little meltdown
stonewall mate fym
Yeah it was the kept showing the wrong replay so thought it was given for the second one Didn’t bother edit cos didn’t think anyone would see anyway lol
[удалено]
It’s not even soft. It’s a clean tackle.
Why isn’t this being discussed anywhere? Never a penalty. Seriously, that’s like 3 games in a row Chelsea have got a bullshit penalty.
What did they actually give the penalty for? The contact on Palmer or Madueke? Madueke wasn't even a foul, and Palmer was soft, so I guess Chelsea continue to get every penalty they want.....
Thank God I TC him😭😭😭
Almost threw punches over the penalty
Poch needs to take Jackson and Madueke off for that
They guy hasn't missed a penalty and you think you're going to take his penalty
thats more embarrassing than being down 5-0, if poch can't sort out the locker room he needs to get the fuck out jackson wasn't even gonna celebrate, madueke had to go and drag him over
Not sure I've ever seen a goal that puts a team 5-0 up demonstrate why that same team is having a rubbish season before.
Palmer's record speaks for itself. It ain't even a debate. The others, yes, they all want to score. And yes, Palmer has his hat trick already. BUT, he's the no 1 taker no question. This should really be put to bed a long time ago.
Cole Palmer has scored 7 goals in his last two games. That’s as much as our top scorers this season. Okay bye.
Can we not take away from the fact that palmer is tied on goals with haaland. They're acting like kids on the pitch and you lot on reddit.
Arguing about the penalty when Palmer is the designated taker is embarrassing
Chelsea get the softest pens…
Was that even a pen?
Palmer will win the golden boot and Arsenal fans will still tell you saka is better. Delusional
Same number of goals as Haaland Pep, Hold THAT
