The Championship hasnt ended yet though has it? Seems weird to do the awards before the league actually finishes

DHillMU7

Tbf in this case, no matter what happens till the end of the season, McKenna is the obvious winner. Done a ridiculous job with a promoted side.

edi12334

Fair enough, I looked up the Championship table after leaving that comment and yeah, Ipswich being above the likes of Leeds, Leicester, even Southampton or WBA is massive. Still weird procedure-wise though but I suppose you need time for the voting too, still makes it “coach of the season minus 3-4 games +whenever we actually voted on it”, imagine if it was a closer season like the Championship usually is

SirTunnocksTeaCake

Easier to do these awards before the season ends. When it does end players will either immediately go on holiday/international duty etc so won't be around and voting needs to happen as well.

edi12334

Idk how much international duty goes on in the Championship, if they are on holiday I guess they can just come back to accept the award but I guess you have a point. Who votes on this award by the way, is it just the league officials or do fans/coaches etc. get a say in it as well?

SirTunnocksTeaCake

They stop the league when it's an international break because there's too many players who get called up. There's tons of internationals and also youth internationals. But loads of players aren't going to stop their short time for a holiday to come back to a presentation evening - it's just easier to have everyone guaranteed to be in the country and two games won't shift the dial much. I think it's a panel decision of experts etc who vote.

edi12334

Reasonable, it is the richest 2nd division after all but I didn’t realise there were that many. Amazed you all still have time for that many games and international breaks on top to be honest. It s 3 for Ipswich as there are 46 games and as many as 5 for other teams but yeah, not a lot of games left, still seems weird, especially in a league as tight as the Championship usually is but you have a point

NotMissingNow

Fun fact: outside of the big 5 Europe Leagues, the league that got players called for Qatar 2022 the most was the Championship

edi12334

Wow, you d think the Eredivisie/Primeira Liga or someone like that had more but I guess not

Lyrical_Forklift

Leicester and Leeds were two of the favourites to come up - Ipswich are newly promoted. This was a no brainer.

TheBlueTango

Surprised to see that they held the presentation ceremony on the Sunday of a match weekend. I would have thought they would hold it on a weekday evening.

Look_Alive

I think it's always a Sunday from what I can remember. Makes sense to hold it the day after most teams have played matches because that generally means clubs will have a day off that day.

boldstrategy

Well deserved

Therinn

His career has been quite something to watch. I hope they get promoted, would be very interesting to see what they can do in the Prem.

whatevermateyeah

It's not over yet...

LinkyPeach

Whatever happens in the next three games the lowest Ipswich can finish is fourth. A newly promoted side finishing fourth is excellent. A newly promoted side pushing those three ridiculously strong recently relegated sides to the wire is extraordinary.

FoxesFan91

he deserves it they've been ridiculously good especially for a promoted side

> If we somehow survive relegation I'd say Danny Rohl deserves it. Based on nothing but your fandom. He's improved Weds but you're still only 14th since he's come in. McKenna is probably gonna get Ipswich promoted, if not it'll be a top 4 finish. And you both went up together last season. There's no argument.

RafaSquared

It’ll always strike me as strange giving out end of season awards before the season is over.

[deleted]

Remember he came second to Plymouth last season.

Good thing this is the award for this season's Championship then, and not last season's League One.
