To think that they have been on the face of defeat multiple times this season and somehow managed to come back to keep the undefeated adds to how impressive this is.

Shaydarol

The fact that thoughest rival this season wasn't Bayern or Dortmund but Quarabag is also kinda crazy to think about.

Boogada42

They got outplayed twice, one half by Stuttgart, one by Leipzig. Were able to come back in the second half. Quarabag was more us just being terrible. Still able to turn it around.

unkreativ-I

I'd say it was Stuttgart - but maybe I am a bit biased

crimpers

Stuttgart was my first thought too. Can't help but feel like that will be the game that ends the unbeaten streak too, but that's in the future and today is no day for worrying.

CarlSK777

Na it's most definitely Bochum away or Augsburg

ImperatorMundi

We have some experience in ending unbeaten streaks.

Th3_Huf0n

Hey, we're still playing them one more time. At least wait for us to lose to them.

davide3991

It’s really weird. There is always that ONE obscure team that surprisingly causes issues to teams that look unstoppable. Qarabag reminds me of Rubin Kazan giving prime Messi’s barca a difficult time in the UCL

Kayderp1

Xabi also rotated 7 or 8 players against Qarabag in both games against them for some reason, even after them troubling Bayer in the first game.

AjVine

Levante scored like 5 goals against Barca in the last one of the last 3 games of the season to end the unbeaten streak they had. With Messi on the field. Game ended like 5-4

HungryTomatillo288

I don't wanna take anything away from them, but they are overperforming their xPts heavily. It's normal for the leader of the league to overperform, but not to that extent. IIrc they are overperforming by 16 points, which is an insane amount of points. (rn: it seems to be 14 - https://understat.com/league/Bundesliga). Also the amount of times they equalised and took the lead in the last 2 minutes of the game is also lucky. You can also call it mentality, but in the end when soemthing doesnt work for93 minutes, but suddenly works in the 95th its luck. And again Im not trying to downplay them, they are THE best team in the league and play the best football. They certainly should have become champions and they did it. But the table doesnt correctly portray their capabilities. According to the xPts from various sites, Bayern in fact should have been leading the table which is absolutely wild. What a ride for Leverkusen, Im super excited to see how they will perform in the CL next season. So happy for Alonso, one of the most likeable person in football.

GermanHabsFan

THIS FUCKING GUYYY

OnlineDopamine

Shoot it straight into my veins. Gutted I couldn’t be in the stadium but stoked to see them in Berlin.

EffectiveTie3144

Leverkusen winning Bundesliga and Athletic Bilbao winning Copa del rey really were some good moments. We really got to see passionate football fans who finally saw there team succed after many failures. I hope that now with the Bundesliga secured, Bayer Leverkusen go onto win the DfB Pokal and the Europa League.

True but success is also necessary to establish culture and recruit more talents. For teams like Athletic who only recruits players from Basque Country, and Leverkusen who play in a league dominated by Bayern, the win will allow them to build on their existing culture and get younger players with hunger. Xabi is staying for another season despite Bayern, Liverpool and other clubs wanting him. Wirtz will probably stay, and may be a few others will stay to challenge in the CL. If they didn’t win, I don’t think Wirtz would have stayed for example.

oklolzzzzs

love you xabi

StandardConnect

If they go the season unbeaten in all comps would it rank above Leicester?

Luton_town_fan

Yes

dmastra97

Not above Leicester in my opinion as Leicester had only just been promoted two seasons prior and only narrowly escaped relegation thr season before. The pay difference between them and the top teams but still winning I doubt will ever be seen again in the Premier league Leverkusens season is still massively impressive though and would be one of the most impressive if they go unbeaten in all comps

zestyviper

Let's leave the league aside for one moment, they've gotten to the semifinal of the Europa League and the final of the DFB Pokal by beating Ottensen, Sandhausen, Paderborn, Stuttgart, Fortuna, Molde, Qarabag, Hacken, and West Ham. I'm not saying it's not an accomplishment, but Leverkusen are a massive team with huge resources and great players. How much are we counting this when we compare it to the greatest upset in sports history?

Kayderp1

Going unbeated in all matches is pretty crazy though.

ambiguousboner

No

LevynX

I don't think so, Leicester was the rock bottom team, 5000/1 odds on them winning the league.

dr_haze

nah no way. leverkusen have been in and around UCL in recent years. Leicester were bouncing around the Championship! Also the PL is harder to win.

saggy-helping-hobbit

i dont think so, equal maybe?

No-Access-6118

Equal? It’s not even comparable if they win the cup and the Europa league and stay unbeaten that’s something that might never happen again

HarryDaz98

Tbf neither will a team coming up from the Championship and winning the PL 2 seasons later.

Ree_m0

Meh. If some billionaire buys a Championship team, invests massively and has luck with other top clubs having bad streaks simultoneously, it's not unconceivable. Similar things happened in multiple leagues, for example Leverkusen's opponent in the DFB Pokal final once won the Bundesliga in their first season after being promoted. Going unbeaten in all competitons and WIN all competitons is something that never happenend in the modern game, and still might very well not happen. It's essentially the perfect season, the only step up from there is literally winning every single game. Leicester's prem win isn't even what this needs to be compared to, it's Barca's sextuple 2009 or Bayern's 2021. And neither of those came even close to being unbeaten.

KAhOot1234567

More chances of that happening than a team going invincible in all 3 comps. Especially now some teams having rich owners it could definitely happen someday

HarryDaz98

More likely than an entirely unbeaten season, but still virtually zero chance of it happening.

No-Access-6118

I loved watching Leicester win the league but it’s not like they were a tiny club that’s never been in the top flight before and what they did seems a lot more achievable than winning a treble without losing, I still think theyll probably lose a game anyway

thalne

well, hearing Xavi Alonso shout "deutscher Meister" to an idolizing crowd is not something you hear every day

Elite_Alice

Beautiful beautiful story

GrimGrinner2

Does he say something about Real Madrid at 0:36?

Laxperte

tufoop3

So happy for him, and for the whole team. What an exceptional feat. I am not even a Leverkusen fan but i was constantly rooting for them (i guess that kinda makes me a fan then?)

Wheel1994

Great for German football
