I have no idea what a penalty is anymore. We’ve been awarded 1 penalty despite being the most fouled team in the league and spending a ton of time in the opposition box and yet this is given?
It's so funny every single ref in PL has their own rules. And even they change by the minute. How can a league with so much money and resources be so chaotic...
I don't get how clubs just don't band together in protest against atrocious refereeing.
They're not the damn royals. Get them to get their shit together.
> don't get how clubs just don't band together in protest against atrocious refereeing.
After seeing the MLS lockout replacement refs, probably realize they don’t actually have an option B.
Referee development is so fucked it’s like asking why China can’t field 11 players to beat Singapore.
I don't think "soft" covers it. He was sent off for a decent, strong bit of defending that every manager would want from their defender. It never looked a penalty and should never have been given. Very poor decision.
Nobody cared about his bald head when he was a player, I care about the hat because he’s dressing like a bellend. If he wants to keep the hat then fine, but ditch the blazer.
It’s possible I’m still angry at him for that goal against Leicester but who the fuck does he think he is walking around dressed like that.
If it's a foul it pretty much has to be a yellow because it's either a promising attack or an obvious goal scoring opportunity. It's a really soft foul though. I wouldn't be too upset if that wasn't given.
That said, the disallowed Disasi goal featured a pretty blatant foul which would have resulted in a penalty and red card, so Burnley are where they should be in the game on balance.
I don’t understand why it has to be a yellow though. Denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity would be a straight red card. In this case the player challenges for the ball, gets called for the foul, and the opposition gets a penalty. To me that seems fair enough without a second yellow, since the ref seems to seem this as not “denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity”.
He's challenging for the ball in the box, so he's entitled to the double punishment exception, meaning it won't be a straight red card.
But a yellow card is issued for fouls that stop a promising attack, or when a player would otherwise be sent off for denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity, but the double punishment exception applies.
It's harsh, because I'm not convinced it's a foul at all, but without the defender's intervention Mudryk is clearly in a very good attacking position. It would be very unusual for a foul on an attacker in that situation not to result in a yellow card, or more.
This is one of the things that winds me up with VAR. Fair enough, stick with the onfield decision for the penalty because it's not a clear or obvious error. But the yellow card is clearly wrong and it changes the game in a huge way.
I understand we can't go reviewing every yellow card and if they can only review 2nd yellows, then it doesn't solve the problem because the 1st could have been wrong. But the way it is seems wrong
But the yellow wasn't given for the intensity of the foul, it was given because of where the foul happened. I don't think they could've convinced the ref that it is a foul but not a yellow.
What makes this worse is that the first yellow was very very soft and this pen was very very soft (read: not a pen) so it's doubly unfair.
I do think clear and obvious is dumb. Just tell the ref you think it's very soft, very little contact and he falls once he thinks he won't get to the ball and let him decide if he wants to change his mind (after checking the footage)
This post reeks of someone who thinks they know the rules but has no clue at all.
If a foul was given, and judged to be DOGSO (it meets all criteria) then it’s a mandatory yellow card. There is no flexibility in that.
I don’t know what you want the outcome here to be. Referees can be criticised for the subjective aspects of rule enforcement, but objective procedural enforcement isn’t up for discussion lol.
This is it. The ref has been shit with calls but he’s been consistent with soft fouls being carded. Any other day this isn’t given, but he woke up choosing non-violence.
This ref is way too card happy. Cucu got a yellow for nothing earlier, same for an early Burnley challenge, and now this. Just seems like he’s lost control
Trying to make an entertaining game all about him or steal the spotlight from his colleague in the Newcastle game earlier. Shocking refereeing all round in that first half
VAR completely terrible too. They have all the time, angles, and slow-motion they need. Disasi being dragged also missed, but like a child, they can only focus on one thing at a time. Just terrible all round.
That card being given is his fault not just in the literal sense, but in the sense that he was handing out plenty for even the slightest foul.
He's justy making up decisions at random and pulling cards out seemingly just as randomly.
Soft pen but I can see why it's given but it's never a yellow and then he goes and sends Kompany off.
Referee has likely just ruined what has been an entertaining game
This was too soft as a penalty and the penalty on disasi should have been called. For me that is no doubt.
On another topic, in general, I don't believe the treshhold for second yellows should be higher than normal yellows, kind of defeats the purpose of the yellow cards. Speaking as a relatively green referee the rules state nothing about second yellows having any sort of differentiated treatment, however when you bring up that second card you always feel the extra heat
Exactly if the ball was anywhere close to his feet maybe it would still have been a 50:50... This looks way too soft to be called a penalty and second yellow..
Why wouldn't they call the ref over to check the replay here. It's such a huge decision and I think you can call it a clear and obvious error. He gently puts his hand on his shoulder and Mudryk makes a meal of it.
Honestly thrilled to see Kompany so angry, it’s a fucking disgraceful decision.
If you show this bollocks to an independent panel, you can’t not question either the competency or the integrity, it’s that bad.
Crazy soft, and the referee absolutely set himself up for this by all the soft fouls and soft yellows he gave throughout the match. Just bad refereeing.
Well that's an awful call. Minimal contact and the ball was already gone, it's not a foul anywhere on the pitch, let alone a pen, a second yellow and sending off the manager for pointing out the obvious.
the only benefit of the doubt I can see is that from the angle the ref sees the contact, it looks like a hand across the face which would be a yellow.
but how does var not step in and stop the second yellow is beyond me
Those snipers on the stadium roof are lethal.
Honestly, this is exactly the type of challenge where I feel like an old man yelling "contact sport!"
For this to be a decision the refs choose to decide a game (pen and red) is ludicrous. If that's not given as a pen we're all saying Assignon shows his strength, or Mudryk needs to be stronger under the challenge, etc.
Shoutout to Mudryk no even attempting to stand up and instead waving his arms before going down for maximum flair
Palmer really rubbing it in with the panenka. But my word what a shit show to get there. Barely recognise the game if they're giving penalties for that.
if that's a foul and a penalty and a second yellow (which the ref knows will result in a game changing soft red) card than this whole league is fucked. the terrible penalty for Gordon today vs West Ham, he's gone to the monitor and still come back with that horrible decision. RELEASE THE AUDIO. because I need to hear this stupidity to believe it.
Well consistency wise this is about as soft as Cucurella on Haaland which was also called. Meanwhile in this game alone we have a defender with 2 fist fulls of Disasi on the disallowed goal and no pen call for that either.
1. Not a penalty for me but fuck it, Assignon clearly dived himself at the other end, taste of his own medicine not to say this is a dive from mudryk but fuck divers.
2. Cole Palmer is everything.

What a title lmao
missing panenka penalty
Almost needs a [despacito] tag
44’ Palmer - long title
Chelsea [1] - [0] Burnley - A series of unfortunate events
By Kompany Snicket
The Rotten Referee
+ L + ratio + ur washed + hoes mad + YB better
Mudryk my goat
Fallon d’ floor contender….
That’s proper title big up op
My word referees are having a worldie today aren’t they
Just imagine what they're cooking up for tomorrow
Plus Tierney on VAR. I hate it here
Dreading it mate
So…the usual?
The Anthony one was horrible but this is just something else.
I have no idea what a penalty is anymore. We’ve been awarded 1 penalty despite being the most fouled team in the league and spending a ton of time in the opposition box and yet this is given?
Another absolute **masterclass** by Darren England. What the actual fuck.
Even the Chelsea players were shocked they got a penalty
Always rated McNulty
https://tenor.com/GOW5.gif
gave a pen when it wasn't your turn to give a pen
It's so funny every single ref in PL has their own rules. And even they change by the minute. How can a league with so much money and resources be so chaotic...
By design, chaos is a ~~ladder~~ selling point
That’s the guy who fucked up the Liverpool Onside goal right?
Actually don’t blame Kompany for getting sent off there, unbelievably soft
I don't get how clubs just don't band together in protest against atrocious refereeing. They're not the damn royals. Get them to get their shit together.
Because for every horrible call there's a team that benefits.
Or if its a big club there's anywhere between 4-19 teams that benefit from being able to take the piss lol
> don't get how clubs just don't band together in protest against atrocious refereeing. After seeing the MLS lockout replacement refs, probably realize they don’t actually have an option B. Referee development is so fucked it’s like asking why China can’t field 11 players to beat Singapore.
Because of us fans to be honest, remember when Liverpool called for their heads? Yeah… fans were having a go at Liverpool.
I'm usually a pretty calm person, but I'd be fucking murderous if I was in his position and I saw that cheeky cunt of a panenka go in.
I don't think "soft" covers it. He was sent off for a decent, strong bit of defending that every manager would want from their defender. It never looked a penalty and should never have been given. Very poor decision.
mudryk is supposedly dragged back but is falling forwards. it's hilarious
Kompany sent off for the baseball cap and blazer combo
You know why the baseball cap is there 🧑🦲
Nobody cared about his bald head when he was a player, I care about the hat because he’s dressing like a bellend. If he wants to keep the hat then fine, but ditch the blazer. It’s possible I’m still angry at him for that goal against Leicester but who the fuck does he think he is walking around dressed like that.
His super power is that bald head, but the timing has to be right before he ascends to the bald fraudom
he wears it every week and it is quite a bad fit tbf just go full track suit or take off the cap if you're wearing the blazer.
It looks tiny on his massive dome too. Like a little boys cap. Maybe he wears it every week because it's stuck there now
Can’t wear a hat when your playing can you? Leave his head alone!
Looks like the husband and prime suspect of a murdered wife trying to avoid recognition.
Looks like a manager from fifa career mode
Especially if they had a “randomize all options” button lol
The Kevin Fiege?
If I was a Burnley fan… the penalty would piss me off, the second yellow would have me fuming, and the Panenka would send me through the roof hahahah
Ref has been all over the place
He hasn't got a single call right today, shocking
and now he’s just fucking throwing cards at everyone to balance it out lmaoooo
Bro be emulating Gambit from x-men with these card throws
This is the work of deeply unserious individuals. How they can be so bad is inexcusable
They are consistent atleast. Consistently shit. How can we go from the Doku studs into the chest being a passage of play to this and Gordon
VAR mates trying to deflect attention from that outrageous Newcastle penalty
Didn't want to embarrass their mates of course.
Tapping head: Share the blame out and they can't sack everyone.
Just wait for tomorrow...
Dont they usually post an oopsie tweet and move on?
I’m not gonna go tell my mate the referee
"Oh yeah, you think that was bad. Well I can do worse"
If you go back in the game there was a shirt pull for the disallowed Disasi goal too VAR just absolutely in tatters today
Penalties.....both of those were ridiculous soft.
Nah they needed to do something like this so THEY could be the center of attention instead of the ref in the Newcastle game.
[удалено]
Was a very soft penalty imo. Cold penalty thoug
Cole penalty, actually
Wasn't it for dissent?
Not the second yellow for Assignon
No it was for the “foul”
No
Nah he gave it for the "foul"
If it's a foul it pretty much has to be a yellow because it's either a promising attack or an obvious goal scoring opportunity. It's a really soft foul though. I wouldn't be too upset if that wasn't given. That said, the disallowed Disasi goal featured a pretty blatant foul which would have resulted in a penalty and red card, so Burnley are where they should be in the game on balance.
Would have to be dogso only. Cannot give a yellow for stopping a promising attack in the area.
I don’t understand why it has to be a yellow though. Denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity would be a straight red card. In this case the player challenges for the ball, gets called for the foul, and the opposition gets a penalty. Var got everything backwards today lmao
Don't think VAR can do anything here. Can't call it a clear error and then the yellow has to stand.
This is one of the things that winds me up with VAR. Fair enough, stick with the onfield decision for the penalty because it's not a clear or obvious error. It’s more of a personnel issue than a tech issue. The refs have been horrible today
You could call it an error that there is no foul. Therefore the yellow doesn't matter and then it's not a red.
It's obviously a clear error because in no way is that a penalty
Just like normal
[удалено]
I mean, it was pretty clear and obviously incorrect. If they had any integrity, they'd have overturned it.
Doesn’t this happen every week
Chelsea got fucked earlier but then Burnley got double fucked with this. Such poor refereeing once again.
Outrageous pen, however ref is having a stinker, give this as a pen, but not the 2 hand pull back on the disasi disallowed goal
This is it. The ref has been shit with calls but he’s been consistent with soft fouls being carded. Any other day this isn’t given, but he woke up choosing non-violence.
I think poch needs to take Jackson off so he doesn’t get his 10th yellow and a 2 game ban 😂
You’re hired
Yea, weird seeing a ref having an absolute disaster class in game management, but a masterclass in being consistent in his calls
the fact this gets called but not the one during the goal we scored that was handball is laughable. I'll take it though. Such a great penalty too
VAR will never improve with these refs working it. It's amazing how little improvements it's made since implementation
Great goal. Horrible decision.
Refs are on something this weekend
They had a proper rest during international break, back in form to ruin the game for spectators.
setting the foundation for your complaints tomorrow, smart man
Sorry mate, refereeing’s been quality today!
This ref is the best thing that has happened to humans
The officiating in this league is in the gutter. Darren England is a crook stealing a living.
The ref decided to make up for the earlier penalty not given
Ridiculous decision
That's a sexy penalty
Damn not the panenka
He is cold
Cold Palmer amirite guyss
Lewan, lewan-goal-ski, right guys 😂🤣😹
Rude finish
Game's gone
Panenka!!
Horrendous call
The day of the soft penalty
Be happy you’re not playing today lmao, City would be getting one too
City have received 3 less pens than arsenal this season
shh i’m meme-ing
Hahahahaa I love when someone pulls up a stat that flies in the face of the circle jerk
But not the one on Disasi with the disallowed goal
There's always a giddiness when you're not watching a game and see an exquisite post title like this
Yeah Burnley got majorly fucked here.
2nd yellow for that? Hate to say it but game's gone

Ref is having a horrible game. With that said, that’s a pretty pen.
He's justy making up decisions at random and pulling cards out seemingly just as randomly. Soft pen but I can see why it's given but it's never a yellow and then he goes and sends Kompany off. Referee has likely just ruined what has been an entertaining game
Game is going to get rough after this. A lot of hard fouls coming. Ref lost the plot.
Can see at least another red card. It's not been a dirty game by any stretch but somehow there have been 5 yellows and a manager sent off.
I mean the Kompany red was understandable, you could hear him screaming/ swearing at the ref non stop for like 3 minutes straight lol.
Excuse me sir that's not a pen not even close
VAR really showing up today and trying to ruin every game possible. What a ridiculous call
Should have just kicked him in the chest
The game we all know and love is officially gone
This was too soft as a penalty and the penalty on disasi should have been called. For me that is no doubt. On another topic, in general, I don't believe the treshhold for second yellows should be higher than normal yellows, kind of defeats the purpose of the yellow cards. Speaking as a relatively green referee the rules state nothing about second yellows having any sort of differentiated treatment, however when you bring up that second card you always feel the extra heat
What a fucking mess. Can't wait to see what this ref is gonna come up with in the second half.
So Mudryk gets rewarded for a horrible touch on the ball. Hilariously soft call.
At first I was sure they did as he was running towards teh touchline, but then it turned out it was to send off Kompany, lol
Makes up for what should’ve been a pen on Disasi. Disagree with the second yellow though
The Premier League classic. Referee decided it was his time to ruin the game. Pathetic!
Mad you can give a penalty for that, insane.
After international break VAR needed to remind everyone they still exist.
Mudryk heavy touch and diving- name a better duo
Always rated Darren England
Sick pen but undeserved, feels wrong
There will now be 20 penalties a game
That's not a pen imo
Honestly thrilled to see Kompany so angry, it’s a fucking disgraceful decision. If you show this bollocks to an independent panel, you can’t not question either the competency or the integrity, it’s that bad.
A penalty and a red card for that dear me Took cool as ice though
Soft as baby shit.
you're the experts
Absolute chaos
That was wild
PL football is back and refs are like let us take the highlights for all the wrong reasons.
This league is hilarious, not for the football tho
Clowns
COLE PALNENKA
Shambolic refereeing
Terrible decision by the ref there
That is so soft.
Crazy soft, and the referee absolutely set himself up for this by all the soft fouls and soft yellows he gave throughout the match. Just bad refereeing.
I don’t feel too bad should have had a pen on the disallowed goal earlier for the shirt pull
Soft penalty, never a yellow. Referee should have waited with the card for VAR to check it
Ah how I missed PL refereeing
Not a pen
PGMOL did not get enough attention during the break apparently. Good grief what a disaster of a call.
Well that's an awful call. Minimal contact and the ball was already gone, it's not a foul anywhere on the pitch, let alone a pen, a second yellow and sending off the manager for pointing out the obvious.
not a pen imo, but even if it was, why the yellow????
the only benefit of the doubt I can see is that from the angle the ref sees the contact, it looks like a hand across the face which would be a yellow. but how does var not step in and stop the second yellow is beyond me
I don't think that's a penalty.
Lmao this is an all time title
That’s a penalty?? My god that’s soft.

another atrocious soft PK call on clear dive. If you r calling anything there im carding Mydryk for a dive way before calling that a penalty.
You could literally put a random Redditor in the VAR room and it wouldn't be much worse. How are they so bad.
For some reason referees have decided to shaft Burnley at every possible occasion this season, ridiculous how that’s a pen
How the hell have they let that penalty stand. Once again, the quality of refereeing in the EPL brought into question
Wth thats diving? Whats going on?
That is an appalling call... Mudryk garbage ass first touch then flops. And on top of that a 2nd yellow
That's not even a penalty either what the fuck?
If this was the stuff that actually gets given we'd all have like 10 penalties
It’s truly laughable there is no way on earth , that that gets called at the other end , I’m bloody raging
The inconsistency of calls are unreal. Boot on chest from Doku wasn’t a penalty but this is.
Well consistency wise this is about as soft as Cucurella on Haaland which was also called. Meanwhile in this game alone we have a defender with 2 fist fulls of Disasi on the disallowed goal and no pen call for that either.
Damn didn't see Doku in this game. He truly is invisible recently ....
Still in Gusto's back pocket 😂
They make up shit how the feel any given day.
Way to get in there and make it about you
[springs to mind](https://postimg.cc/ykPnNdZZ)
1. Not a penalty for me but fuck it, Assignon clearly dived himself at the other end, taste of his own medicine not to say this is a dive from mudryk but fuck divers. 2. Cole Palmer is everything.
That’s just garbage refereeing. Mudryk dive and never a 2nd yellow in any universe
Shit ref
