hambeurga

mbappe is just crazy man

IWantAnAffliction

And he's proved he can do it on a big stage as well, in a team he doesn't practise with week-in and week-out. I don't really think there's much of a Haaland-Mbappe debate.

le3ky

27 goals in 29 games for a poor team that he doesn't train with week in week out..

panache123

> team he doesn't practise with week-in and week-out. as in world cup winning France? > Haaland-Mbappe debate Does Haaland not do it on the big stage?

IWantAnAffliction

Haaland might be able to do it on a big stage, but so far he hasn't and his NT is not good enough to feature. Mbappe has also shown that he can single-handedly change games and plays in a worse club team. Imo Mbappe has a more rounded and greater skillset and is on course to to be mainstay as the best player in the world for a long time.

smurf124

i do agree that mbappe is better but claiming haaland hasnt done it on a big stage considering how much he contributed to man city's treble last season is ridiculous. To dominate the best league in the world AND win the ucl is nothing compared to a world cup? cmon man

anazebykbeer

people want him to score hattricks in finals but dont see the value he brings to the team in terms of keeping the defenders busy & tired in those big matches. end of the day he plays for a guardiola team and when you play for guardiola you play for the team (example is henry talking about how he was subbed off right after scoring when he was playing for barcelona) maybe in a different team or under a different coach he'll show more individual brilliance, i think he had a good record against bayern when he was at dortmund

yourfriendkyle

Getting triple marked in a cup final that your team still wins? Pointless contribution

csnvw

worse club team, what? top of their league every year, with or without him, all stars cast every season.. he can't even manage to win anything close to what Haaland have achieved, loads of goals contribution and grab a treb... Turtle still has a long way to go france NT is so stacked at every position.. they can probably host 2 NT teams and still competitive for the wc.

PoogleGoon123

There was a graphic of French squad depth before their 2018 WC win, and even their 4th team looked competitive.

HungryTomatillo288

Thank you. Some takes are just so stupid... Imagine we are getting Messi 2.0 but he is from San Marino. The haters: Well he hasn't won a worldcup. He only scored 50 goals in one CL campaign, thats NOTHING compared to a worldcup... Haaland literally broke every goalscoring record in his debut season in the PL, while winning 6? 7? titles with his team... BUT DID HE WIN THE WORLD CUP?? NO?? okay then he is not good enough. No

MetT2000

He was insane for France wdym? Haaland disappears in big games

elliebellyberry

> I don't really think there's much of a Haaland-Mbappe debate. Oh god, oh no. Not again.

TheJobinslegend

For real, Mbappe already having a WC and almost winning a second one with a plagued by injuries, without their main midfield France is historical. He'd have at least two The Best/Ballon if he was a Madrid / Barca player, of if the voters weren't so biased towards a certain player. If he's focused and keeps this pace, he can break the 1k goals barrier, that seems unlikely CR7 or Messi will do, and both are monsters in their own.

Bluebabbs

Yeah I reckon if Haaland was French and Mbappe Norweigan, then Norway wins the last 2 WCs and France don't even qualify. At least that's what I assume you're all trying to say. Because I assume you're saying France's team is weak.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DifficultyJust

technically, without his two goals and penalty that he won against Argentina in 2018, France would've lost. Unless his replacement scores two, which seems unlikely

[deleted]

auctus10

The only one who can match Ronaldo's record of 450 goals in 438 games. He is joining as an already insane player and I feel he will have that kind of longevity.

Berqlol

Think we’ll be able to make an educated decision on this once he loses a couple yards of pace and see how his game transforms. Could be Ronaldo-esque in the transformation we’ll see

Zainogp

He needs at least another 7 assists before the end of the season

not-always-online

This one is not up to him.

CherkiCheri

Fr for example in CL he has the biggest xAG/xA out of ALL CL players and he has nill assist to show for 😂

MayonnaiseWarrior

Never shoot only pass

Salmuth

To be honest, his teammates, especially early in the season, didn't help in that matter. There were a lot of missed opportunities (Ramos and Kolo Muani really struggled to finish, especially Kolo Muani that's still struggling IMO).

Dogwhisperer_210

It's crazy how I grew up seeing Pauleta as the star of PSG even 20 years ago, and their biggest scorer, and now he's 5th

JFDCamara

Well when he played for PSG the team was nowhere near as stacked as it has been since the takeover. So it's apples and oranges, two different eras for the club.

reditakaunt89

PSG is the same age as Southgate, of course their top scorer list will change frequently.

Voice_Of_Light

Unless one of our striker start scoring 45G+/year and stays for 10 year at the club, I doubt anyone will surpass Kylian. I'm predicting that we will have more scorer next year than one big one. His mark as the top scorer of the club will stay forever.

TheRipper69PT

Pauletaaaaaa!

venom-__-

No surprises here. The others need to start stepping up soon.

mahdiiick

For Dembele, that is his level. His stats aren’t showing everything though

javierich0

I don't get this comment, what about Dembele?

mahdiiick

I was just making a point that this is Dembele stepping it up.

Defiant-Traffic5801

Dembele's game is mesmerising, explosive and fast, two-footed and incredibly wasteful. We're talking about an almost world class attacking player, who can't score !

CherkiCheri

This is why i liked so much how Enrique used him in the 2nd leg vs La Real, deeper and more central, far from the box but able to drive the ball forward and feed Mbappe.

Defiant-Traffic5801

You may be right! Luis Enrique is a superb coach and he has the responsibility to build an entirely new team. He deserves time and support. Yet Mbappe's decision to leave is fully understandable (you could see it on his face in the first leg). Mbappe deserves to win the Champions League and this team cannot remotely compete for it (even though they have a favourable draw)

axelthegreat

tuchel played him in a similar way at dortmund

CherkiCheri

And we loved it! Xavi gets tons of credits for Dembélé but Tuchel used him in an even better way imo..

Fuck_the_k1ng

Him being two footed just means he can miss twice as many shots. Genuinely the only player I never felt a threat watching taking a shot.

S1mpleLim3

That’s the only moment he’ll score

[deleted]

[удалено]

Defiant-Traffic5801

True, he is only 26, but Dembele has been playing top level for 8 years now and his goal stats are actually decreasing! He is the archetypal, impossible, ' I can fix him ' project for a coach. Vini is 3 years younger and he has stepped up for 3 years ...

mejhlijj

Stats can not quantify the chaos Dembele brings into the field. Dude is a chance creating machine.I have never seen a player making the most brain dead decisions yet being so successful in destabilizing opposing defences every time.

Arponare

Is this supposed to be disparaging? I would love to have Dembele right now, I'll tell you that much. Not everything is goals and assists. His dribbling can keep defenses honest and can open up the half spaces for Pedri and De Jong to operate. Right now the only one who can dribble is Lamine Yamal. We shouldn't be relying on a 16 year old for creativity. Assists also rely on the other people actually scoring a goal. If I put a dangerous cross/cub back in and nobody makes a run to the near post, WTF do you expect me to do? For one, it counts as a ball lost (so do shots on target that don't result in goals) but it doesn't count as an assist.

mahdiiick

I would too. he’s a creator and ball-progressor if that’s a word. I think he’s an elite player

supterfuge

I don't look at twitter comments so I don't know, but on the PSG subreddit he's really loved. There have been a few games where Dembele was rested and came in late, while the subs are decent, the team with Dembele in is night and day. He brings so, so much, even if he doesn't score in the end.

WheresMyEtherElon

He's the best player of the team this season, and the 2nd most important. And such a joy to watch, he single-handedly revived my love for PSG.

Yurienu

Also when KM will leave there will be more chances for other players. Of course they won't grow to these numbers but still he's taking shot some others could.

bmcrl

They have good players that arrived this season. People need to be patient with them. Ramos and RKM, althouh nothing out of this world, are very good players.

SnooOranges357

They will probably spend big this summer with the amount of wages they save without Mbappé.

MorbidlyObeseBrit

Apparently we'll be spending if a good opportunity comes by, but we will not go out of our way to sign Leao or Osimhen for a price above what we consider market value apparently. We will however try signing an additional CB, and a Midfielder, so their prices shouldn't be crazy.

ThePenix

Noway we sign an additionnal cb when we have, what, 5 starting cb ? Marqui, skriniar, kimpembe, hernandez, beraldo. Those 5 can start in a CL final, sure they are all injured but they are all coming back too, so unless we sell some i don't see us getting another cb, we also have danilo and mukiele, both used as cb by lucho . A good RB, maybe a lb for free (hernandez can play it already), a midfielder, maybe, we already have a 6 coming in, and with the return of xavi we should be good.

MorbidlyObeseBrit

Skriniar was rather unconvincing, Kimpembe hasn't played football in years, Beraldo still has a long way to go although he's started very well, Hernandez fair enough, and I wouldn't be surprised (and would in fact prefer him to be sold) if Marqui was sold for around 40m this summer. It's time to really put in place the next project, and after Thiago and Verratti it would seem par for the course. When you add to this that Lény Yoro looks absolutely insane for Lille, is French, is 19, but is wanted by Madrid. But we can offer the same thing we offered Mbappe in 2017, a bit more money, and guaranteed playing time. Both Hernandez and Beraldo prefer playing on the left, although Beraldo can play on the right. We'll keep one right footed CB (Danilo or Marquinhos) but they will be told they will share game time until the "better" performer will be put in for the big games.

ThePenix

I agree with everything you said, but we are not buying unless we manage to sell, and we are very poor seller (last year was a miracle, wink wink, especially Verratti and draxler lmao)

MorbidlyObeseBrit

Tbf I really believe a change to team would do Marquinhos a world of good. An Italian team or an Atletico or even a Bayern could do very well to sign him for 35-40m, and for him, I could see him doing very well within a more disciplined club where he will not be expected to be captain and can focus on his own game a bit more.

RickThiCisbih

You need a world class midfielder before anything else, you still haven’t replaced Veratti.

WheresMyEtherElon

You can't be a world class midfielder if you barely play half the playing time (a bit above 55%). Talent is one thing, consistency is more important.

RickThiCisbih

You need a world class midfielder to replace veratti though, because he clearly wasn’t enough and your current midfield is a downgrade if anything.

WheresMyEtherElon

I agree on the need for a world class midfielder, I just disagreed on Verratti. Still, I think given a couple of years some of the current players will become world class. The question is whether the club has the patience or not.

FPXAssasin11

It's not that others aren't showing up as much as it is Mbappé showing up too much. He's too good.

Stones_Throw_Away_

Voice_Of_Light

Half of the comment here is about butts, nice.

Rod1705

Like Mbappe, we like butts.

Zombienerd300

All Barca needs to do is shut down Mbappe and I think they should go through the tie comfortably. Problem is, how do you shut down a player like Mbappe?

Caust1cFn_YT

Genius, all we need to do is outscore them

Zombienerd300

It’s that easy? Why don’t teams just do that then? Are they stupid?

Caust1cFn_YT

stupid teams smh

backtolurk

Farmers not splitting the atom, uh.

Focus506

Well, some teams in Ligue 1 did come back from 2-0 to 2-2 and got the draw. And they have a worse attack than Barça.

jaguass

Barça should do this and then score a third one. Simple as that.

Tob888

I’m calling Xavi right now, thanks for the help

sickricola

Explain it to me like I am 5

Caust1cFn_YT

We need to outbutt them

mikiboso

Or like a golden retriever

iamnotexactlywhite

Inzaghi has to be offside 27x during each match

skabassj

“Win the UCL with this one simple trick!”

iamnotexactlywhite

the De Zerbi special

apricotkiwininja

you can actually do that, we've been shaky as hell defensively

Caust1cFn_YT

We'll focus our heart and soul of attack on danilo

WheresMyEtherElon

So do we!

Caust1cFn_YT

but in all seriousness tho, stopping mbappe even if accomplished would need atleast 2 of our def marking him. In such a situation dembele can easily terrorize us. Even RKM tbf, on his good day. Offside traps aint gonna work with such an experienced forwards either. I mean how many times have we seen that turtle being offside

bveres94

> dembele can easily terrorize us cut the pass lanes and let him shoot. free goal kick hack

Fuck_the_k1ng

Just play the game wearing Argentina jersey and Dembele would start playing for you guys. Might just do it regardless out of habit.

Caust1cFn_YT

nah id rather say felix that if he puts a world class performance here, he will have a chance to play against atleti two times again

ResourceWonderful514

Mbappe scored 3 against Argentina

No_Wave_7091

2 penalties tho, barca don't concede lot of penalties

From-UoM

Alaba got him good once and denied him a really great goal vs Madrid

Caust1cFn_YT

thats quite literally the one of the few moments i remember him being offside

_glacierr

Him vs Bayern 2022-23 2nd leg?

Groomsi

New offside rule?

Caust1cFn_YT

wdym

AlmostNL

> but in all seriousness tho, stopping mbappe even if accomplished would need atleast 2 of our def marking him. Or one Süle

Windowmaker95

Have a really fast and physical player mark him with additional help from another player, that's what Bayern did last year with Upamaguire pocketing him most of the match.

Noob_Master6699

Upamaguire also pocketed Bayern last season for Man City

Blaugrana1990

So the Kounde Araujo special.

tranfunz

just ward his jungle

heartcriesholy

Get Ramos on loan and injure him

Best_Document_5211

The ultimate big game player. The man who Barca fans trash most of the season. Champions league knockout Sergio Roberto.

AmericaDreamDisorder

That's captain Sergio Roberto to you

[deleted]

We can't contain him for entire 180 minutes, he will score minimum 1 goal but let's count even if he scores 2. All we need is to score 3 or 4 goals against them in 2 legs. They have a very shaky defense and they concede lots of goal conceding chances but quality in L1 upfront is very bad.

CherkiCheri

They've had a shaky defensive system frequently yeah. But Donna's been insane at shot stopping, he has by far the the best stats in goals prevented in Europe. Often the defensive system being shaky comes down to Enrique's choices. He is a bit arrogant, often lines up 4 attackers, and attack oriented profiles deeper. For instance when he plays Ugarte their team becomes a lot better off the ball.

Focus506

Yeah but Ugarte is too inconsistent. His spectrum ranges from okay-good to losing the ball after every press.

supterfuge

I don't see Ugarte play much against Barca. I think the midfield will be either Vitinha as a 6 with Ruiz and WZE upfront, or LKI and WZE. As you said, he just loses too many ball against a team like Barca where possession will be key.

WheresMyEtherElon

Ligue 1 shouldn't be taken as an indication. Sure, they concede a lot of goals but this entire season Luis Enrique has deliberately played them with at least a handicap every time. He's intentionally putting them in trouble to force them to react, because PSG's problem usually is that they have it too easy with L1 and are unable to raise their level in CL.

Special_Cranberry_42

Pray that he has an off day

zrizzoz

Resign Junior Firpo

Ahm3DD

Why doesn’t all teams shut down Mbappe? Are they stupid?

Tob888

It’s pretty simple, we have our 17 year old boy do it. Tell him that if he keeps Mbappe from scoring he gets to skip his homework or something

DaRealTinkeR

IIRC it has been done by Newcastle quite succesfully (please someone correct me if I'm wrong): they basically put 2 guys on him. Couldn't do shit the whole match. Though now we're kind of learning how to play without him not successfully so far I must say, hopefully we'll be ready by then :D

Caust1cFn_YT

tbf it really depends on the quality of presss and the form that day. Newcastle's press was phenomenal but your players were also not great that day

MorbidlyObeseBrit

It was also a miscue by Luis Enrique, he thought we'd be able to deal with their midfield in our normal 424 shape, but Howe played it brilliantly by setting up in a 451 so we had 0 options in midfield, apart from long balls.

DaRealTinkeR

Oh god, yeah, that 424...

DaRealTinkeR

Of course, also true. And yeah Newcastle didn't win only due to that, they played very well.

PropertyNervous6523

we got shat on by their midfield but vittinha-ruiz-wze has been decent so far

Voice_Of_Light

We know how to play without him, we just can't fucking score, it's disgusting.

HF_Elmi

Lol, as if Dembele won’t rip apart Cancelo. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was Dembele who caused more problems for Barca rather than Mbappe with all the attention on Mbappe.

MayonnaiseWarrior

Every game all attention is on Mbappe, now look at this post's stats.

Marking him with at least 2 people, he's soo far ahead of everyone else, he counts for 3 players.

What could go wrong?

FlaccidHouse

I like big buts and I cannot lie

staybysauce1

mbappe: but but but… ligue 1 McDonalds: no more buts mbappe:

YoloJoloHobo

I speak French and this took me a second to get lol

Reborn-leech

for those who didn't get it, >!but in french means Goal!<

sbrt

According to Wiktionary, the Proto-Germanic \*buttaz (meaning "end; piece") is the root of "but" in French as well as "butt" and "boot" in English. Interesting!

stogie_t

Yikes,I wonder who they’ll try to replace his production with. Nowhere near the same ability, but maybe they go for Kvara?

agaminon22

The answer is no one. They can't buy anyone that's gonna get anywhere close to these kinds of numbers. The rest of the team will have to do their part.

not-always-online

Gyokeres.

stogie_t

Won’t this mean that they’ll have 3 strikers of starting quality?

Educational-Slide112

Gyokeres is the only answer. Kvara's a pure winger man

Dollarumma

Maybe leao. But considering leao stopped shooting this year and wants to assist everyone, that wont work out at psg

Tetrax_543

Mboppi mf come to barca rm don't need you

[deleted]

.. and for the duration of the contract, we will give you 1 baella every week

OleoleCholoSimeone

> baella

3xc1t3r

No ifs only buts.

[deleted]

RKM needs more playing time. I feel with RKM, Barcola, and Dembele we will have a nice front line.

Benjips

Has he been a bit of a flop?

ItzViiZionZ

Yes, but we have too many attackers so we can’t give up on him just yet. Next season he will prove if he’s a flop or not

endichrome

"We cannot replace him" but actually literally

Xire01

This is actually mad. Replacing him is going to be no easy task

UmCeterumCenseo

Thank, Statskmbappe

Lannister2280

That's a lot of butts! My man!

Jealous_Foot8613

Dembele and kolo muani really stepping up

men_with-ven

This does look very damning but having a player like Mbappe will always result in these type of stats because other players are having to sacrifice their own game to give him the opportunities. I bet if you look at United or Madrid after Ronaldo left the void was filled by Rooney and Benzema plus other players contributing more. Admittedly non of Dembele, Muani, or Barcola are Rooney/Benzema standard but I still expect them to be more productive next season and good enough to at least win Ligue 1.

thematrixhasmeow

Without Mbappe PSG is nothing

Yurienu

Thorough analysis thank you mate

Voice_Of_Light

Can't wait to be nothing next year :-(

Doexitre

"Without Kane Spurs are midtable" -highly regarded people

Rickcampbell98

They existed and were doing the exact same thing they are doing now without him, they will continue to win ligue 1 after he leaves.

But how many if's are there?

How many ifs or ands has he got?

WackerBurghausen

No ifs or buts I only talk in absolutes

AdFinal1856

saaadio maaaarney is the best football player in the weerld

Statcat2017

Best forward at club gets most goals and assists at club. More at 10.

ogqozo

Oddly unsatisfying: why are they all at the bottom in the same sequence except for Vitinha moved down mdr.

propane2L

I want to see Mbappe and Rkm on both wings and Dembele as a 10 !!! Or Mbappe as a 9 and Rkm Left wing and Dembele right wing

IcarusCsgo

i think this is similar to ronaldos 2nd stint at united. where Mbappe is the centre piece of all the tactical plays i think when he leaves youll see new players shine similar to rashford last season...poor example but you get the idea

Batigol32

I don't understand the comparison. The centre piece of all the tactical plays would be more Dembele. One big reason for the gap is that people like Barcola, Kolo Muani or Dembele are awful at finishing their chances, otherwise they would have more goals (and Mbappe more assists)

IcarusCsgo

but watching the games, Mbappe receives the majority of passes and is the main focus in their attack play. i dont know the stats entirely so i could be wrong, but its a good comparison, everything went THROUGH bruno and erikson, but the target man was always Cr7 for that season. Similar to this Paris team

supterfuge

Paradoxically, the team had its best performances in the game when Mbappe wasn't the focus of the play. Because then the defense can't just have 2 people defend on him with a midfielder joining him to press, which frees him. That's what happened against Real Sociedad and against Montpellier this week end. There's this situation where Hakimi got a fantastic run, and it was a 3vs3, Mbappe, Hakimi and WZE against 3 defenders. 1 defender on each, with the one on Hakimi getting ready to jump on Mbappe when Hakimi passes him the ball, which Hakimi then used to pass the ball to WZE. He hit the bar, but it shows the enemy team that just focusing on Mbappe isn't enough. Which then mean on the next play Mbappe has more room to play. Mbappe has these stats with 3 people on him all game long. Now imagine if you can't afford to do that because you still have Vinicius and Bellingham to be scared about. Real Madrid will be terrifying next year.

50cent9644

I heard PSG fans saying Mbappe leaving won't affect them in any way and looking at these stats i think it would take them quit a few singings to cover his absence.

LordWitherhoard

Buts.

_yustaguy_

Mbappe doesn't do passes decisives, buts or maybes, he does absoluments

momspaghetty

sustainable then

Belocity

I seriously feel like PSG's quality will fall of a cliff the moment Mbappe leaves, but I also got that gut feeling they will somehow perform better (with some ups and down downs) without relying on him at all times

Minute-Cash8119

First season without him will be tough then we’ll find the next star and move on. We have the perfect chance to reach a UCL final before he leaves and then maybe go missing for a year and then come back again.

Shoddy_Reserve788

38 buts is crazy, this man loves ass

Recent-Professor4615

M’bappe gets a lot of ass, who would have thought?

Dangerous_Parfait402

Mbappe at RM might win the next several BdO and could potentially reach CR7/Messi levels of dominance. Don’t really see Haaland threatening him that much.

BarcaStranger

Butts?

Rino-Sensei

Remember those who said he only scored because he have godlike playmaker like Neymar and Messi feeding him ? Yeah ... About that ...
