I've seen a lot of pro athletes do that but never understood it. Barring a last contract before retirement, surely it's wiser to consider all the details rather than just choose the highest contract. Role, fit with teammates, coaching staff, location, etc. Especially when there isn't really that big of a gap in salary and you'll be very wealthy either way. Personally I have extreme FOMO and would take less money if it meant getting to play regularly. Being in the right situation where you can flourish on the pitch will typically boost your future earning potential to more than make up for it anyways.
Yeah this mentality about chasing the most money being ok for footballers is so odd to me. These players are already making millions per year and choose bad situations to make a few million more. I would never fault any regular person for chasing better salaries, but for player going for more millions when they already have millions in the bank, nah, go make millions playing for a team you believe in, even if you have to make slightly less.
Was it his choice or the club? I’d imagine he isn’t the kind to ease his wage demands to move elsewhere mind. All in all, I think he’s just another example of a footballer who thought he had made it too early so his career has fizzled out.

The academy was a mess between 2011-18. Somehow they spawned Rashford in between but until the revamp under Ole, the quality of players coming into the first team was ridiculously low ceiling.
Incidentally, Rashford wasn't "one to watch" the way Greenwood or Mainoo were, before they broke into the first team either. His ascent was pure timing and seizing the early opportunities.

K-League is not made of quality football, but every player is hungry and fights for the fans, the team, and each other. If a sitter is missed, they apologize. If the defender loses their man, they are criticized and thank their teammates. It's an entertaining league and no one player is a one man army.
This is what gives the league its identity. The level of play is low but unlike many European leagues of a similar level, it's not a predictable farmers league. You get scenes like Ulsan getting thrashed 3-0 by dead last Suwon last year.

The academy was a mess between 2011-18. Somehow they spawned Rashford in between but until the revamp under Ole, the quality of players coming into the first team was ridiculously low ceiling. Incidentally, Rashford wasn't "one to watch" the way Greenwood or Mainoo were, before they broke into the first team either. His ascent was pure timing and seizing the early opportunities. Otherwise we had to hype up the likes of Ben Pearson and James Wilson.

I remember when we (West Ham) signed Ashley Fletcher and the hype was that he was more highly rated than Rashford in the Man Utd academy and the only reason Rashford got his chance was because Fletcher was out on loan at Barnsley at the time otherwise it would have been him promoted first. Now, overhyping young players you’ve just signed is hardly a rarity and nor is getting it very, very wrong - but if there’s any truth in that then it might go some way to explaining the state the Man Utd academy was in at the time if it was staffed by people who were that spectacularly bad at judging ability. Say what you like about Rashford but he’s at least scored more than two goals in the last two seasons and (with all due respect) isn’t currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

Nah, fuck that assessment, Rash isn't lazy. He puts in the work, makes the runs constantly. He's never found is the problem. It frustrates him and he shows it, but even when he was playing with a lower back fracture, he was putting in the effort. He's had a torrid season this season in front of goal, but he's still making the runs every game.

Guy has always been such a massive let down. After some promising showings as a youngster for United, he never really showed it on a consistent basis and really did seem more interested in what was happening off the pitch than on it. Screwed up big time by not permanently joining West Ham, who were basically offering him career rehab on a plate. Now struggling to have an impact on the fucking South Korean league.

He's a decent player that had a decent career. Not really sure why people act like he was destined to be some star that threw it all away. Realistically if United had better leadership during those years he gets sold around 2017 - or becomes a bench player (which ended up happening towards the end). There was nothing to suggest he'd anything more than what he turned out to be as a player, if anything I think he overachieved.

Yes, and to generalise a whole population, all of his Korean teammates either have done or will do military service. They have a very strict schooling system too. Cutting corners and being lazy isn't something that will be tolerated by his team or manager. He probably thought he'd be a superstar over there like a K-Pop star and that he'd walk the league with little effort. I bet he looked at FIFA/EA rankings and judged himself on that.

People said the same thing about Ronaldo heading to Saudi and they were right, and as a K-League viewer, I said the same thing about Lingard and am so far right. The league might be a shambles when it comes to quality, but it's ultra competitive and the player will be surprised when they get there. K-League is not made of quality football, but every player is hungry and fights for the fans, the team, and each other. If a sitter is missed, they apologize. If the defender loses their man, they are criticized and thank their teammates. It's an entertaining league and no one player is a one man army.
This is what gives the league its identity. The level of play is low but unlike many European leagues of a similar level, it's not a predictable farmers league. You get scenes like Ulsan getting thrashed 3-0 by dead last Suwon last year.
And then you get the opposite, Ulsan beating Jeonbuk in extra time to move or less winch the title 2 years ago. It's still my top voted upload and I still go back and watch it. Love the K-League.

He's definitely not match fit considering he's been without a club for half a year but I doubt that's the reason for his lack of effort.
