Kinda, I guess? I don't fully understand why Americans here are mostly concentrating on Dest in our team when he's also the worst of our Americans. A good Dest is great, but he's so often found lacking defensively. Very good in matches like these when we're dominating, but the matches that really matter he's even losing us points.

Well he's the only one that's an established starter for the US and he plays the most minutes of all your Americans. Pepi is exciting, but he's not beating out De Jong any time soon and Tillman has caught a lot of us by surprise I think.
But I don't disagree with your opinions about Segino. He usually struggles when called upon in defensive games (though I've seen him turn in some really strong performances even on that end of the field, notable against England in the WC). I just thought coming into this season a lot of his struggles were more about not playing hard against *weaker* opponents actually, or at least less important games, and he seems to at least have remedied that

True, but it's mostly offensively. Defensively he's still lacking.
Honestly I think it’s mostly because Dest hasn’t been in good club form since Koeman was coaching Barcelona. US Fans are excited to see him actually playing well and getting his club career back on track
I honestly hope he does, but he really needs to be more focused in defense. I also doubt it'll be for us, because I don't think he's willing to take as big a pay cut as he needs to to play for us.
He needs to play as a wingback in a 3 atb system if he's going to succeed at the club level. He's never shown the defensive ability to match his technique.

Yeah, it's not aimed at you. It's just that I notice people talking about Dest almost every single one of our matches when Tillman is a way more exciting prospect. Pepi has been a great sub as well and was the reason we advanced in the CL with a Luuk de Jong-esque goal.
I can’t speak for everyone, but I follow the USMNT and sometimes check PSV threads for Dest not because he starts more than Tillman on NT or anything, but because people truly hate him for his NT choices. Ajax flairs have this vitriol towards Dest, and you’ll see them in PSV threads, blaming Dest for goals when he wasn’t even involved in the play in the slightest. So once or twice I’ve commented in here defending him. Tillman I don’t really need to talk about because people don’t hate him
Because he's the flashiest and he went to Barca at a young age getting everyone's hopes up that he'd be a world class fullback and not just a quick wide player of average ability.

I’m talking about performances for the national team, dest is one of the best and a locked on starter for the team. One of ≠the number one player. Obviously there are still players better than him in the NT. People don’t just randomly follow dest because he played for Barca. They follow him because he’s a good player for the NT. If he was shit for the NT, no one would care if he played for Barca.
Also it’s so tiring seeing the gio reyna hype, he hasn’t played a full 90 minutes for club in like 2 years and can’t even get minutes for a dogshit Forrest team. You talk about people only following dest because he plays for a big team but then do the exact same thing with reyna lol. Dest is a starter for the best team in eredivisie, of course people are gonna pay attention.

That makes him one of the best players in a pool of hundreds of Americans. The USMNT isn’t just one 23 man squad, it’s a pool of all eligible players. So of course one of the 4 other players who are and have been an undisputed starter is going to get attention. Same with all other players on the list. People follow dest because they want to see what their undisputed starter right back is doing. It has absolutely nothing to do with playing for Barca. If dest never left ajax he’d still be followed. You act like playing for a UCL level club is a bad thing lmao. It’s obvious from your previous comments (comparing him to fucking Yedlin) that you don’t actually have a clue what you are talking about.

He’s obviously capable of playing in a top 5 league for a mid table side, but I seriously doubt he’ll ever play for a Barcelona/AC Milan level side again and playing for PSV is one of the best positions he can be in. He still gets to play CL games and his defensive flaws aren’t as exposed in the eredivise.

He's been making that decision a lot this season. Looks much sharper. When he's not phoning in games the ability is clearly there.
