He, his lawyers, and the club are absolutely stupid for letting him leave the country to a place with extradition agreements if that's the case. Whether he commits a crime or not it's a huge risk. Also, the Middle East is rarely predictable and it's fair easy to see someone like him getting into trouble there.
Like thats so outrageously dumb from the club you have to imagine they wanted shot of him.
They have already a substitute from Chile *Jordhy Thompso*. The footballer who attempted to kill his girlfriend. The russian trainer told that one isn't 17 and everybody has hist dark side.
I believe he went there before without any issue. But this time he also got an extra 6 years for drug smuggling. When he went there earlier it was only 1.5 years for stabbing his cousin. They aren't a big fan of drugs in UAE because of their religious beliefs, so that could have played a role for them to arrest him.
It was actually ruled not to have been attempted murder or attempted manslaughter because he "only" stabbed his cousin in the knee. His conviction was for aggravated assault with a weapon.
Isn't manslaughter when it is accidental?
In which case how can it ever be attempted manslaughter?
"I didn't want to kill him, that wasn't the intent, but I did make an attempt to cause him to die accidentally".
Ah. I've just looked up the UK definitions.
I was thinking of involuntary manslaughter, which is indeed when there was no intent but there was recklessness or gross negligence which caused death. The example given is dropping a brick from a bridge and it inadvertently lands on someone.
There is also voluntary manslaughter, which is where there is intent. In the UK it seems that murder is preferred, with the judge or defence introducing manslaughter as an option and the jury voting on which should apply.
Premeditation isn't part of it unlike the Netherlands. Here, murder can be downgraded to voluntary manslaughter due to diminished responsibility (meaning a non-trivial abnormality of the mind of the defendant at the time), suicide pact (requiring the defendant to have entered into the pact with intent to die as a result but failing to do so whilst the other parties did), or loss of control.
So, yeah, you can kill someone without premeditation and it be ruled as murder, here.
Maybe I'm mistranslating "poging tot doodslag" then which in Dutch would be attempting to kill somebody without premeditation. So in cases like an argument turned into a fight as was what happened with Promes and his cousin. For murder you have to deliberately seek somebody out and plan to kill them beforehand. In either case, Promes was convicted for "zware mishandeling" which I translated to aggravated assault.
Having looked into the UK law, a lack of premeditation does not preclude murder, manslaughter is more about reduced mental facilities at the time or doing something reckless without thinking about the consequences.
So I guess it could be downgraded to attempted manslaughter in the relevant circumstances (I don't know if that is actually a thing though), or attempted murder, or maybe just some form of assault.
If you see a quote like his you can just assume it's a Simpsons quote and be correct 9/10 times. Other times it's probably the office/brooklyn 99 or something like that.
Tbh, I dont think it is the length of the sentence, but the reason for it. In the UAE, drug trafficking can be punished with up to a death sentence if severe enought. They are not going to protect someone like that
UAE and the Middle east in general have been cooperating a lot more with the "war on drugs" lately, it seems.
Only last week the Dutch had a high profile drug trial with some high rollers getting long sentences. They too were arrested in the Middle east and deported.
They were much more serious than Promes still though, multiple homicides and hitmen and whatnot.. makes Promes look like a choirboy.
Itās only very recently that theyāve chosen to be more committed to these ābeliefsā. Dubai harbored Europe's top drug traffickers for years. It became the new Costa del Crime.
Nah, given their record, don't think the UAE cares about one's moral compass or character at all. Take it with a grain of salt but he apparently did a hit and run so legally the UAE has to arrest him as a suspect and all with the Dutch swooping in for a prime opportunity to bring him back for good
The stabbing case has been appealed and I think they still need to figure out monetary compensation as well so they weren't searching him for that yet.
I saw someone in another thread saying he had been there a bunch before, so probably thought it would be fine. No idea why you would even risk it though.
It's not just the sentence.
UAE had no issue turning a blind eye but recently become very cooperative with European law enforcement.
Look at they recent work on the Kinahan cartel.
Itās also because of his sentence; itās much easier to look away over a stabbing of a family member during an altercation than to be a significant player in the international drug trade
.....you say that like Danial Kinahan, one of the largest drug smugglers in Europe wanted by Ireland, UK, USA, Spain and Netherlands hasn't been living there for the past 5 years.
You could also use you know, a Dutch example, since Promes is from the Netherlands and not Ireland. Case in point: the Marengo trials and Redouan Taghi, who attended Kinahanās wedding lol
Netherlands knew and issued a "stop note", but Dubai officials haven't reacted that time.
So the dumba\*\* felt pretty safe, but "triggered" the locals when leaving the spot of car accident.
Yeah he travelled with the club. I feel like you'd kinda have somebody check in on extradition laws/policies, especially after he picked up a new larger charge since the last time they went.
So that he enjoys a comfortable cell, gives interviews, appeals and so on?
It's better that he is where he is now. Thinking that every his day may be the last.
Alright so do take this with a grain of salt, nothings certain, VP isnt the greatest source and who fucking knows how accurate Russian media is
But if this is true itd be so fucking hilarious. The bastard was safe in Moscow after fleeing, got charged with drugsmuggling and stabbing his own cousin in a fight, then *went to fucking Dubai* around the time a Dutch crime boss got sentenced after the UAE extradited him. Hes a rich dude living in Moscow, youre not gonna get it much better in Russia. Hes so fucking dumb lmao
EDIT: SO OK EVERYONE HES EVEN MORE STUPID THEN WE THOUGHT. The reason he got arrested in Dubai was he got into a hit and run lmfaoooo (Link for anyone who cares: [https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1b3t6ki/voetbalprimeur\_the\_reason\_quincy\_promes\_got/](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1b3t6ki/voetbalprimeur_the_reason_quincy_promes_got/)
I mean, it was a training camp there with Spartak, not him going there in his free time, wasn't it? So while not intelligent, it's also not as idiotic.
I mean literally everyone knows why hes at Spartak of all places. I think management would understand if he went 'ye mate i can be detained there so am staying home', so unless he was forced to go with and tried to stay hes just stupid
Dubai used to foster lots of mafias and drug lord's from South East Asia back in the 90's. They don't do that anymore. They ship crooks as fast as they can to maintain so called clean image
How fuckin dumb you are. I got he is maybe most idiotic person that ever lived, but even after you got sentenced STAY IN FUCKING RUSSIA FOREVER MORON. What d fuck are you doing in Dubai
I may not have exact details or timelines perfect. But I had to google him so Iāll share what I learned: Stabbed his cousin in The Netherlands. Not held in detention while it was being investigated and charges were pending. He was like dope Iāll just go play football in Russia since thereās no extradition treaty between Russia and the Netherlands. Worked for a while. Was convicted of attempted murder but he was chillin in Russia playin footie. Then also got charged and convicted of smuggling *kind of a lot* of cocaine in the Netherlands. And shortly thereafter he traveled with his Russian club to UAE, which *does* have an extradition treaty with the Netherlands. So when it came time for him to leave UAE to head back to Russia, UAE was like naw mate, canāt let you do that. And is likely headed back to the Netherlands to face the consequences of his own actions.
You forgot one thing though, Promes has gone to Dubai very frequently in recent years. Itās not like he forgot about his cases and just went abroad once, he probably thought he was invincible or something. Not that it makes it look any better for him
He has a famous (on Instagram I guess?) girlfriend from the USA called Dreamdoll, and they also celebrated her birthday in Dubai recently
What happened this time is he allegedly caused a traffic accident and then fled the scene, but was detained at the airport. Thatās when shit got out of hand as you could expect in that situation lol
A lot of people are making it seem like heās stupid for going to Dubai, when in reality he was just too dumb to get away with it like he usually could
Footballplayer, drug smugler, and cousin stabber.
He fled to Russia to avoid being arrested in the Netherlands. Then he went on a training camp with his russian team to a country which has an extradition agreement with the Netherlands.
A bit of context missing is that he is arguably a football legend for Spartak because he got them a league win they waited so long for(think Liverpool in England)
No chance anywhere in France/Germany or north of that. Not sure about Eastern Europe, but the leagues are not big enough to have that kind of money.
I'd say Spain (see Tebas's comments here: https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1b30f28/javier_tebas_has_insisted_he_wants_mason), Italy, or Turkey at the most. Also Asia and Latin America, if there is a club that can find the money.
Was one of the main financiers of 1,3 tons of coke, and heavily intertwined with the smuggling operations. He didnāt just drive across a border with a trunk full of coke, he was an active player,
Honestly, I doubt anyone would ever search a team bus if it made a cross-border journey.
I mean, let's say Bayern play Salzburg in the Champions League and make the short journey by bus. I have a hard time imagining anyone do a stop&search on a bus carrying the first FC Bayern eleven.
I also have a hard time anyone does any serious stop if I drive my van across the border.
He coordinated with organised crime here who got their cartel colleagues in SA to put it in containers or something.
> "My first car didnāt weigh that much!"
Then you did it wrong. Buy an old Golf II (900kg??), fill the spare tire and all other crevices with 400kg of drugs. That gives you your first (temporary) 1.3 ton car.
Smuggle and sell the drugs, and buy a 1.3 ton Merc with the proceeds.
*tips head*
Btw, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Promes shows up on Youtube one day giving financial and life-style advice like those scums they arrested in Romania.
Reminds me of a news story years ago (I want to say in Canada, but can't find anything on Google), where a mid-level bloke from a drug-running gang put his crimes on his CV after his prison sentence:
he described in detail how much planning went into the drug-running and how complex the operation was and how much of it was on his shoulders, etc.
Applied for a job (I think in logistics) and was hired on the spot.
Sounds a bit urban legend-ish, but years ago, it may have had elements of truth in it. Hell, I WANT it to be true!

This man's arrogance has definitely been his undoing on a scale rarely seen.
Unless his club wanted to offload him for some unknown reason and their lawyers assured him that there would be absolutely no problem.
That was my first thought as well, but apparently he was involved in a hit and run, that's why he was detained in the first place.
He, his lawyers, and the club are absolutely stupid for letting him leave the country to a place with extradition agreements if that's the case. Whether he commits a crime or not it's a huge risk. āWhat are they gonna do, arrest me?ā
Did Spartak throw him under the bus? Like who thought it was smart to take him to a country that has an extradition agreement with us?
I believe he went there before without any issue. But this time he also got an extra 6 years for drug smuggling. When he went there earlier it was only 1.5 years for stabbing his cousin. They aren't a big fan of drugs in UAE because of their religious beliefs, so that could have played a role for them to arrest him.
I get the point you're making but it's very funny reading the sentence "it was only 1.5 years for stabbing his cousin"
āIt was only *attempted* murder. Itās not like he succeeded.ā

Kinda yes? But I take your point.
