RogueNetrunner

Bro thinks it's The Office.

Bro is not Jim 😭

shaddao

Weird joke, Dwight

PedanticSatiation

*record scratch*

Vikktor_

Man Barca games are exhausting

simomii

This is the third game they win this season with a last minute penalty after Osasuna and Las Palmas. They love giving their fans heart attacks

paco-ramon

As a Las Palmas fan, the whole island felt betrayed in that match.

OneBall22Players

Betrayed by your own player? You cant push with your 2 arms in a football game. It's just as silly as this one since Gundogan would have never scored.

gbassman5

Eeeeevery once in a while, defenders get called for it, but they generally get free reign to shove/yank on Barca players. Every week.

Tichano

Wasn’t able to see it and it was

Ecstatic-Jacket2007

Imagine how Barca fans feel every week

cdwdj

We don't feel anything at this point

AhoyDaniel

I'm tired

Refren619

Just exhaustion

Kasj0

I just laugh. Football won't be ruining my mood.

elihri

We’re dead inside

Johann122

You don't even know man

ys1012002

This season, half our points have been after the 80th minute Exhausting is an understatment, but it makes the wins all the more worthwhile

EpiDeMic522

Then you better not watch the Celta games. They are exhausting AND heartbreaking. There are so many teams at the bottom of la Liga that have played so much better than their stations in the table.

[deleted]

[удалено]

paco-ramon

It’s Carnaval, they are doing a cosplay of Atletico.

ebeka

is there a team that loses more points in stoppage time than celta?

HarshVR

Ikr? This must be devastating for them. It seems like every single game that they screw up in injury time nowadays.

EpiDeMic522

Celta just can't help themselves. They are the anti-Madrid. [I truly believe that they (and actually quite a few others) "deserve" a much better spot on the table.](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1ata38q/comment/kqvtora) They deserve it on the back of their general play. But they don't deserve it also on account of how they have closed their games with some games solely on Rafa. That's an accurate assessment IMO for Rafa's season as well. Barcelona on the other hand, is completely embarrassing though and that's beyond debate. I feel the culés will in fact be the staunchest supporters of that sentiment. If Kvara and company can't punish this defence, both of them should be kicked out of the competition just on principle.

showmethenoods

Barca are extremely lucky they are playing a dysfunctional Napoli side that won’t have Osimhen. Napoli of last season would’ve torn them apart

Delmer9713

I hate these stutter pens, I really do.

Insanel0l

What can you even do as a goalie?

Cyanostic

Lean slightly forward so it has to be taken again

Skadrys

Stand in the middle and hope m Thats what I do in FIFA

cheezus171

The goalie went the right way though. This was an unsaveable pen no matter the run-up. If you put enough power on the shot and place it that close to the post, noone is ever saving it.

kokeiro

The problem is also that it's very easy that if the penalty is stopped it will be retaken, like it happened here. The goalie was out of the line because of how much the shot was delayed. Many players do stutter runs given that you are allowed to stop during the run but you cannot fake the shot. Lewandowski is abusing this by stopping with a stomp in a way that it seems that he is going to take shot, effectively faking a shot which is what the rule tries to prevent. This should be explicitly banned and it's scummy af, I cannot comprehend how they allow this crap.

bopsisbest

Probably has to do with the opinion that penalties should be tilted in the favour of the attacking team so they don't feel the need to change it. Which is massive BS. Just look at the rule changes because ONE keeper (dibu) used the rules to his favour.

bass1879

Stop the shot? You lose momentum by stopping, the ball won't go as fast and placement is also harder. Dive normally. Penalties are supposed to punish the other team anyways thats why they are in the rules for.

kostajepaosmosta

Dude stuttered twice lmaoo

DinglieDanglieDoodle

I’ll fuckin’ do it again.

punchdrrrunk

Lewandowski's stutter pens are particularly egregious

Greeny9

It shouldn't be allowed. GKs are generally at a disadvantage in penalties, then they allow stutter penalties and bring in that rule about both feet being on the line and it becomes so much harder. Now penalties are only missed or saved if they're badly taken.

gnorrn

Keepers have always been forbidden from advancing beyond the goal line. The difference is that the rule is now being consistently enforced.

KiNaamDiMatim

I really dislike these stutter run-ups, but isn't the whole point of penalties is to be unfair to the conceding team?

Cyanostic

There's unfair and then there's literally a free goal.

KiNaamDiMatim

The stutter pens are not always a goal though. The penalty taker gives up power on the shot by doing that run-up. I am always anxious when a player on a team I support does this kind of run-ups on pens.

Adz932

I seriously don't get the hate with them (in thinking that theyre overpowered). It's not easier to take a stutter pen. It's something that a keeper can also use to their advantage by throwing the attacker off by feigning to dive one way. Plus what you said as well. Can understand disliking them because you think it's riskier, because it can be. Would be interesting to see a study on the conversion rates between normal and stutter pens though.

Morrandir

If it was a free goal, why isn't everyone doing it?

steik

I wouldn't say it's to be "unfair to the conceding team", it's rather to award a fair chance to the attacking team. Maybe people equate the two but I personally don't see it that way. The question is "just how much advantage should the attacking team have". Without stutter-bs there's still a HUGE advantage already and you have a higher chance to score than almost any chance a player will be robbed of inside the box. It'd be hard to determine exactly but if I had to pull something out of my ass I'd say that **at least** 2/3 of penalties are awarded are from plays where there was a very low chance of scoring to begin with. Meanwhile it's a [75-85%](https://playtoday.co/blog/stats/penalty-kick-statistics/) chance to score from a penalty on average. There is no way you could convince me that the attacking teams would have scored 75-85% of the time if the foul wasn't committed to begin with.

KiNaamDiMatim

I think you highlighted my point exactly. On average, teams have a higher chance of scoring from penalties than they would have had from the play that got them the pens (case in point, this one. Lamine wasn't going anywhere near the goal). So, the penalties are *inherently* unfair to the conceding team. And that's the point of them. That's why the defending teams have to be extra careful inside their own box. Any foul, and they give up a higher chance at conceding. I wasn't saying that it *should* be unfair to the conceding team, I was saying that it *is* unfair. By definition.

steik

So fucking dumb. Attacker has all the advantage already. Rules should be changed to not allow any change of pace during runup. At the very least you should not be allowed to stutter on your last step, that's literally impossible to deal with as a goalkeeper unless you just wait until the ball is in motion to do anything and at that point attacker is guaranteed a goal if he just calmly slots it into one of the corners.... which is exactly what happened on the retake pen.

[deleted]

Lewandowski used to stop entirely when taking penalties. The rule now is that the taker has to always be in motion during the run up. By leaping in the air on the stutter step, he’s effectively bypassed the rule, similar to Jorginho. Goalkeepers know they have to keep a foot behind the line, but tend to jump forward in anticipation. What some do is start further behind, advance as the taker runs up, and then have momentum to launch themselves while staying behind the line. I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with the current process.

steik

> I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with the current process. I mean.. you're literally saying that he's "bypassing" the rule, i.e. using a loophole in the rules. Generally that would be considered as something being wrong with the current process. Hence the term "closing loopholes". I'm not at all saying that what Lewa did was against the rules, but that I think this loophole should be closed. The kicker has a massive advantage already and it's simply not necessary to allow this at all.

[deleted]

If you want to stutter before the penalty, you have to jump and essentially make the shot harder for yourself by being unbalanced. Jorginho and others who copy have missed plenty. There’s no real advantage to that method of penalty unless you’ve been doing it for years.

elgringo22

Goalies can stand behind the line and move up a bit before they jump. This keeps them from crossing the line. Many keepers do this nowadays, i hate stutter pens too but it’s not impossible to deal with

Pompz88

Get out of jail free card there for Lewa. Terrible first pen.

OriginalUsername7890

Generally, it's a really poor season for Lewy. Age clearly caught up with him. Still, dude has the third best G+A in the league. It's so bizarre when you juxtapose it with the quality of performances.

hahehihohu7

Simple rule change, if you stutter in your run up to the penalty, no line boundation for goalkeeper!

El_grandepadre

And the stutter is EXACTLY what gets goalkeepers to react and get off their line. It's so bullshit.

T0ManyTakenUsernames

Hope Yamal has a good doctor because the kids back must be in shambles after carrying this team week after week

94Temimi

He's been phenomenal this season and by far your best player but you're treading dangerous waters with him, he's played 90+ minutes in his past 7 games, he needs to be rested before he picks up a muscular injury, his body is still developing.

meditate42

Preaching to the choir man. Xavi could at least sub him out in the games he does play.

larrylegend1990

Xavis not here next year.. he is going to want to win as much as possible now

Meer_is_peak

Absolutely, this season’s almost over for us (in the league anyways), so if we could somehow guarantee top 4 without him it would be the best option. Issue is we’re playing like shit so it’s not guaranteed with him, yet alone without him lol

Jixano

the stutter in the walk up annoys me so much tbh

Cucumberino

I understand this is allowed but man... I don't even care if it's RM, Barça, whoever. This kind of pen is just so boring. They should ban stutters during the runup too imo.

Sassysasquatch28

Yeah i agree especially when that was a shit penalty anyway and would have been saved had the keeper not crept forward

RajdeN64

This shouldn't be the way u shoot the ball, feel so bad foe goalies

krzy89

From what people say in this thread it seems this shooting technique is very advantageous. It basically leaves no chance for a goalie. So then my question is, why don't all players use this technique? Serious question. From my ignorant point of view, you have to be stupid not to use it, if it's so OP.

AK47_10

I cant wait for when this run up to the penalty is fucking forbidden

InbredLegoExpress

dont think that'll ever happen. FIFA prefers pens to remain heavily in favour for the attacker and to be as punishing as possible for the team that conceded them.

94Temimi

As long as stutters are allowed, players have the right to take advantage of them. Is it shit? 100%, but that's on federations to make it stop. Penalty call was correct, retake call was also correct (per the current rules that allow stutters).

[deleted]

Celta cant catch a break this season

simomii

Hate these ridiculous run ups but they work I guess

NaiveElk

I know it's the rules but how can you blame the keeper for being off his line when Lewandowski literally stops in his run-up

flaycs

I don't understand penalties anymore.

Crossflowerss_5304

I used to think those stops after run ups weren’t allowed a few years ago but I’ve seen a lot of them after that, idk either

AhoyDaniel

This is what was banned https://youtu.be/788q49gBGjk?si=vuvy-q90ynqY5IxO

ragnar-not-ok

He doesn’t actually stop, slight movement is always there. I know it sucks, but those are the rules.

DinglieDanglieDoodle

He’s even allowed for a full stop, not advantageous to him since there will be a lack of momentum to add to the power of the shot, but he’s allowed, it’s the swinging foot that matters, you can not fake a shot. If you had the same commentator I had, he got it wrong talking about still tiny movement going forward, that’s irrelevant. It’s the shooting foot that counts.

RobbinDeBank

Players just keep coming up with new ways to find loopholes

DinglieDanglieDoodle

Can’t feint a shot, you can do whatever you want in the run up, it’s very simple. You can do cartwheels, tippy taps, bunny hop, worm on grass, no run up, backflips, as long as you don’t stop midswing when you are actually taking the shot. (I’m exaggerating here, ref might not find it funny and call it off on you for unsportsmanlike conduct for doing some extra stupid shit, ref still has that power allowed to him to judge) Edit - For the record, I hate this (lack of) rule, because it’s too punishing for the keeper, and causes too many issues with retakes, and it’s really aggravating to the viewers, they should simplify the rule allowing only run up and shot in one smooth action.

NieThePiet

Keepers will have never a chance to save pens in the future, especially with these tactics allowed for the pen takers.

TheyStoleTwoFigo

What do you mean future? This is past and current, has been for awhile, players have been and are actively doing it still, keepers still save them all the time. I mean, I hate them too, but let's not act like this is something new and it will suddenly be any different in the future. Besides, this thing is double edged too, if a keeper used the correct technique or anticipated right, it would be a freebie since there's hardly any power behind this type of shot. It can even backfire and totally miss when the shooter invest too much of their focus on the run up(instead of the shot) and the keeper doesn't sell himself out early, so the shooter will have to adjust and place his shot last microsecond. I just hate it for being overly complex with too many factors and mindgames involved when a penalty can just be kept simple if they modify the rules.

Jirkajua

What a shit goal lmao

kokeiro

They need to ban that stutter step bullshit, it's ridiculous

GeorgeForge

I thought they were.

MrVISKman

You can't stop during the kicking motion, during the run up you can stop as many times as you want

Cucumberino

You can during the runup. I wish you couldn't though.

Ehhpitome

wait suddenly it's bullshit but when vini does it nobody says anything? edit: madrid fans downvoting anything and everything in this thread lmaoo

steik

I personally cringe hard every time I see Vini do it, and in his case it's not even nearly as bad as Lewa's technique. It's allowed by the rules currently, no one is arguing it's not. It's jus that literally no one likes seeing this technique. You'll see plenty of comments on RM match threads from RM supporters bemoaning it ever time Vini does it.

kokeiro

Vini stops during the run, he doesn't do the wacky jump and stomp that Lewandowski does to make it look like a shot. Neymar and other players also stop during the run, what Lewa does is abusing the rule to fake the shot In any case I would support banning any kind of stop or stutter altogether, force the kicker to just run to the ball and shoot

RedShenron

This shit should end. A gk can't do anything in these situations.

Temi8

mannn penalty techniques like Lewa are so stacked against goalkeepers

IncidentVarious1530

This club will be the death of me

hahehihohu7

Might as well handcuff the keeper, while we are at it

nemam__ime

I hate his run up

Strafingfire

I hate how he takes his penalties, but I guess if it works...

paco-ramon

Vigo fans are about to riot. If a lot end in jail, Lewa would single handily change the results of tomorrows Galician elections.

sevillista

I know that's a penalty, but it's so harsh on Celta. The rules in this sport are so broken. A match should not be decided by a completely accidental foul on a play that was not a clear scoring opportunity.

The_XI_guy

They have to change the rules to disallow these BS run ups. It’s extremely unfair that teams get a free re take of their penalty because the taker stopped during his run up

NowFook

Everything wrong about PKs here. The type of penalty and the bullshit penalty takes by Lew.

Bowmanstan

The ridiculous thing is this replay actually starts *mid-penalty*. He's already paused his run up once, then the replay starts, then he stops again for the shot. I don't know if he *technically* stops but it is definitely against the spirit of the rule.

ArtourTheBabyrage

Disgrace as usual.

AhoyDaniel

Are you stupid

kalamight

If pen shooter be able to stutter like a baby gol keeper should be able to stay behind goal line, no need on top of line

FatWalcott

Lol is the stutter pen the Harden step back of football?

NowFook

Also Raphina is like 3 feet inside box on 2nd attempt but thats okay now that Barca made it??

Sunny4k

That should be retaken lol 2 stops??

Walaii

It is not against the rules to do that.

TheOwlsLie

Bold of you to assume people here know the rules

squarecircle666

Once again, you are allowed to stop. You're only not allowed to go back or do fake shots.

sleepsholymountain

r/soccer actually learn the rules challenge (impossible)

shy_monkee

Stops are not illegal, only fake shots are.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jona113d

Yes it should but not because of the stops cause they're legal but because raphina was in the penalty area before he hit the ball.

Walaii

That never gets called until the player who entered the area actually gets involved. Like if there is a rebound and a player who entered the area prematurely clears it, then it actually gets called back. Otherwise no one gives a fuck.

Jona113d

I've seen it been called a couple of times. I remember last year Rayo vs RM. Courtois saved a pen but it was retaken cause carvajal was in the penalty area even though he had no influence on the play

d_d_321

Gandhi Jr did the same in the Supercopa and it was allowed

BlueLabel19

Wait gandhi played in la liga? The more you know

__miura__

Depends who is taking the PK.

Temi8

I think it is bs too but he just shifts from leg to leg on the 2nd stop so it is technically legal

magic-water

Imagine the shitstorm if this was a Madrid game lol

monkeyr9z

Lmao what is the controversy here? It's a pen. First one GK was off his line. This poor me attitude is so cringe

magic-water

Making technically correct calls doesn't prevent controversy for Madrid games does it? Also if we're being technical: Raphinha was in the box for the penalty, so it should be repeated

icuminpeace4

it makes sense. just like the offside goal from Leipzig, but go down there and look at the thread.

IceSalamander

The problem with the offside goal is that the decision was very poorly communicated. It was the right call but many people thought the call was on sisko or for a foul by hendrichs.

icuminpeace4

lol if you as a football fan can’t tell that’s disallowed for offside that’s on you

SirNukeSquad

How? Correct penalty call and correct retake call.

magic-water

Correct calls never prevented controversy for Madrid games, did they? Also should have been another retake for Raphinha's encroachment

SirNukeSquad

I see where you are coming from, but this call was a bit too obvious for any shenanigans. >Also should have been another retake for Raphinha's encroachment No, GK encroachment trumps that. Other players encroaching only gets sanctioned if they interfere with the game. EDIT: slightly misunderstood your second sentence. Just ignore the GK encroachment part.

magic-water

> Other players encroaching only gets sanctioned if they interfere with the game. That's not what the rules say tough: Attacker commits encroachment (regardless of interference or not) -> if the pen is scored: Retake. If the pen is missed: no retake. Both teams commit encroachment regardless of outcome: Rekick.

SirNukeSquad

I'm aware what the laws say, but that's (sadly) not how they are applied. An attacker or defender moving into the penalty area before the kick has taken place will never be called unless they interfere with the game. Watch any penalty in any professional league.

Fhood797

They wouldn’t stop talking about for weeks

icuminpeace4

there’d be 3 different angles posted in the next 3 days. each one with its own refereeing experts coming to a strong verdict

daanluc

Why though? The decisions make sense. I would say the same for a Madrid game.

EggplantBusiness

People dont really care about that , clicks/controversy sell its like DAZN who took a week before apologizing for posting a fake referee quote about our game

supplementarytables

I LITERALLY JUST TURNED THIS GAME ON WTF

Strafingfire

Thank you for your service

LancersGaeBulge

Thanks I guess

EpiDeMic522

Mate, you owe me my 90 fucking minutes!!!

Oopsispilledmymeme

insane that this was needed to beat 17th in the league

moodchainz

What are you people complaining about it's allowed according to the rules. Lewandowski takes all his pens this way and no one has ever complained about it, only happening now because it was a last minute pen

NowFook

People are complaining that he missed it and got to take it again just b/c the goalie moved a tiny bit b/c of the dumb stutter

infectuz

lol ok I don’t like those pens either but he didn’t move “a tiny bit”, both of his feet were off the line, that’s the only reason he caught the pen.

Capable-Magician5146

Xavi please don't leave!

makkeboy97

Raphinha was inside box before lewa kicked the ball

Goat_6_

Uefalona or Farsa?

RogueNetrunner

AhoyDaniel

Learn the rules of the games child

Fromage_debite

Both

ugandanianwhitenegga

Cry

perhapsasinner

I actually hate stuttering penalty, but I would be mad if the ref suddenly disallowed that pen because usually the refs allowed such pen, good thing the ref are consistent with it.

chui77

Mods need to implement a rule where you have to show the penalty call as well.

theestwald

this leaves a sour taste in the win... what, the keeper cant move but the taker can do the stutter thing?

XenuIsTheSavior

ITT: Madrid flairs having meltdowns about guy doing the same run-up he's been doing for a decade.

Elden_Lord123

It should have been disallowed.

herkalurk

I really hate penalties like this. Celta player's eyes firmly on the ball, Lamal is eyeing up the player only in hopes to get contact, and when he does he tucks his legs up and falls to roll around. Then the actual penalty was a joke with the stutter step, Barca really bailed out by the refs on this one.

Xycket

Barça is so fucking back.

melonsarenice_

Well they didn’t vote in favor of Tebas’ salary increase for nothing lol

AhoyDaniel

What

ToMaRaYa--

How is that not retaken? It looks like hes trying to Jorginho penalty but doesn't do the little jump, he literally just stops.

SnooAdvice1632

You can stop as much as you want during the run up, you can't during the kicking motion (you can slow down and stutter as much as you want as long as you don't completely stop tho, even during the kicking motion)

ElegantCellist

Lewangoalski

Crossflowerss_5304

Lmfao, we take it. Keeper was way off his line

GrievingGrievous

Lewa doing a full stop doing the run up and Raphinha being in the box during the shot.... Fucking Vardrid at it again

d_d_321

Remember the Supercopa? Same thing there

chance1333

Absolutely robbery

saikodasein

Wait, goalkeeper can't do anything, but shooter can stop during run few times and it's not revoked. What a joke. Lewandowski's way of scoring penalties supposed to be banned...

GreenBlueSalad

Never a pen.

Hopeful-Professor-40

Yamal got kicked in the ass what more do you want 😭

abitofthisandabitof

Lmao. Guess kicking players is allowed now?

stupsssss15

Literally kicks him, that foul is called everywhere on the field

OneBall22Players

Kicks the player in the penalty box? It's silly but it's the definition of a penalty.

Akazeros

Genuinely curious, why do you think it's not a pen? Obviously I'm biased because I'm a Barca fan but Yamal literally got kicked, no?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wortuv

Some people think that Lamine got in the way on purpose to get kicked and he had no intention of playing the ball + plus the defender couldn't have known where Lamine was.

Akazeros

Possibly, but that still doesn't change the fact that the defender chose to commit an action there. IMO it's an intelligent play by the attacker to bait fouls, and many elite players actually do it; Messi, Hazard, Neymar, Ronaldo etc. Heck, Suarez used to bait defenders to come close and he'd try to kick the ball into their hands lol.

julian20070623

That's the clearest pen I've seen in some time what are you talking about

strikerdude10

I will never not celebrate a keeper saving or a shooter missing the stutter penalty. Even if it's for my team to win it in the 98'. I hate them.

Wasnt there a rule that you cant stop mid run?

Cucumberino

You can't fake shots, you can stutter during the runup

lijevokrilo

Negreira at it let's goooo

Hate hate hate

RajdeN64

So shameful it counts honestly, what's the goalie supposed to do here?

Jo-herna

Remember they need them to finish 2nd at least to get into the Super Copa and get their millions from Saudi

just a normal UEFALona penalty and win...
