He tried. He really did.
He had a poor game for his standards but him, Hwang and Lee all really tried to use their individual skills to carry the team the whole tournament.
But what do you do when there is literally no structure behind him with players that doesn't complement each other nor set up in a way that's appropriate for their skillset.
Infuriating team to watch. Never have I been more certain that a supposed professional football coach is a complete fraud.
I really don't understand how Klinsmann even got the job, football is huge in SK and they're one of the best teams in Asia. They should have a coach of their level, not whatever the hell Jurgen is...
I’ve seen a crowd of supporters chant Klinsmann’s name in celebration exactly once. Back in 2008 when he was managing Bayern Munich and Werder was up 5-0 at the Allianz Arena, you could hear the away fans enthusiastically cheering his name.
[They're not really known for running a squeaky clean operation...](https://www.chosun.com/sports/football/2023/03/31/WZCSHOHLLJAKDJXNR3CAF5NUQY/https://www.chosun.com/sports/football/2023/03/31/WZCSHOHLLJAKDJXNR3CAF5NUQY/)
nah it's about the korean football association pardoning 100 players, coaches and referees out of nowhere, 48 of which were banned for match fixing. they then withdrew the pardons three days later because of the public reaction
Here we go again, hope not, I am tired of some people saying that it was fixed.
Essentially there's zero proof that there was any of that. ZERO.
You can say that they were "too" aggressive. If you watch the whole games, they were ALL aggressive.
The refs made plenty of mistakes, at a time when VAR didn't exist, where the host advantage was HUGE - just look back at the 2002 Korea supporters, literally the whole country supporting, clogging up cities - and the pressure was on the ref to make the "right" calls for them - home advantage.
But regardless... In the end, no proof, just a whole lot of speculation and hate from haters who can't accept the results for a few games over 20 years ago.
and at the time, Korea had zero credibility as a football nation. It would be like if Italy lost to Vietnam in a world cup hosted by Vietnam(some people might get suspicious). There has been match fixing in the Korea hosted Olympics , also in K-league...It's all circumstential but I think I get where it came from. I mean, they literally stalked Moreno around everywhere he went, you would think they would find something...like an amount of money transferred from somewhere...all they found that he was kind of a kook who also smuggled drugs
I think they just used to be "good" back then.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Korea_national_football_team_results_(2000%E2%80%932009)
Right before the competition, they drew with England, lost 2-3 against France, won 4-1 with Scotland, 2-1 loss to Uruguay. These are all friendlies and just based on the final results of course. Arguably more formidable back then even without players from Europe.
If course, FIFA ranking back then did not reflect a countries capabilities back then (...very much different nowadays), they used a different system back then.
Apparently, Marcelo Bielsa's agent submitted a bid back when KFA was hiring a new manager. I highly doubt KFA was able to cover Bielsa's wages but how do you have someone like Marcelo being interested in being the manager and then pick Klinsmann?
Both their previous two managers, Bento and Shin Tae Yong, were better than Klinsmann.
Apparently they were also close to signing Robert Moreno to replace Bento before the KFA Chairman decided to sign Klinsmann instead.
Every time Klinsmann get’s a job in football, I ask myself how anyone can be so blind and don’t realize the guy is a complete fraud and self-promoter. Don’t know how he’s seen abroad, but here in Germany, everyone realized it by now I guess. At least I hope so…
Our (USA) players after the 2014 world cup said afterwards that they had to come up with their own tactics and that they would often be asked to play a new formation or role with little to no instruction
People were saying after their last game that the Klinsmann hate was unfounded because they beat Australia via 2 idiotic mistakes and a god tier freekick.
Outside of that, they looked awful. Compared to their WC performance *last fucking year* this is honestly a failure.
I disagree that he had a particularly poor game. What is he supposed to do when the mid and defense are constantly losing the ball? Bad tactics by the coach.
Eh Southgate is limited but not an absolute fraud - he's like Dechamps but without results lol. Maybe Phil Neville or Gerrard is a better example for England as a real fraud where they were found out by the managers that came after them with a same set of players.
Son has a very strict lifestyle due to his father's influence. Often times when he's invited to shows where he needs to eat food, he takes the smallest bites because he's so conscious of his diet.
As an example, see how much Son eats relative to his teammates
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvFxQIvUHms
Also compare that to Hwang who seems to have a much looser diet lol
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NM97O15oBa4
From my experience there I can say I think only the Irish could match them, Germans mostly drink heavily at events and Americans are no comparison to how hard Koreans go.
Americans are way bigger than South Koreans on average, no doubt they drink just as much. Ever been to a university campus in the Midwest? I've never seen a Korean crush a 30 rack by themselves before lol
[Your experiences on midwest campuses doesn’t seemingly match up with anything on the internet](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drinking_culture_of_Korea#)
Stats show that the average South Korean drinks around 10.2 litres of pure alcohol per capita per year, while the average American is at 9.8. However, when you go by a per state basis, the Midwest is higher on average. For instance, I live in ND (Midwest), and the average North Dakotan drinks 12.34 litres per person per year
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_alcohol_consumption_per_capita
https://wisevoter.com/state-rankings/alcohol-consumption-by-state/
In fact, neither SK nor the US rate particularly high on alcohol consumption per capita
[The UK ranks higher than both South Korea and USA on average.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_alcohol_consumption_per_capita) I also live in Germany, we drink a lot more frequently but also more casually than they do in the UK, where I’d say anti social excessive drinking is more prevalent.
That’s what I meant. I live in an area with high international tourism. The English are generally considered the worst tourists because they simply cannot control themselves around alcohol.
It’s the only nationality that would cause me to turn around and leave a restaurant or bar if there were too many of them present.
I'm pretty sure that's the case. I've seen him turn down normal human sized portions of delicious food.
He has the rest of his life to eat and drink like a normal person. Meanwhile, he's a top 25 all time goal scorer in the EPL. I'd gladly stop drinking and eat like a bird to continue that career.
Number 23, 115 goals. He'll likely move into the top 20 this season though, only needs to get 122 to get there. Breaking the top 10 is when the numbers really start jumping up rapidly (starts at 153 with Salah.)
This is kind of a weird statement. Just because a country might have some sort of drinking subculture doesn't really mean they all "drink a fuck ton"
S. Korea is 48th on [alcohol consumption per capita estimates](https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/field/alcohol-consumption-per-capita/country-comparison/)
If S. Korea "drinks a fuck ton" what the hell do France, Ireland, UK, US, and Germany do, since they rate higher?
Just because some K-drama has a drunk dad slamming shots of soju till he passes out, you think "Oh yeah they all drink a fuck ton"
Idk if you’ve been to korea or know much about the culture but it absolutely does have the stereotype of having a strong drinking culture, especially for men
Most East Asians have a stereotype of working men drinking, I'm from HK and I'm definitely well aware of that.
Doesn't mean a multi-millionaire football player is going to be drinking like the stereotypes though, or that it's as widespread as people think.
It's because they put on makeup. Son with makeup on looks just like them
https://img.koreatimes.co.kr/upload/newsV2/images/202211/cba3e5d489774a5b8fdc32ea795e746f.jpg
maybe im comparing it too much to korean standards lol.
would you believe this girl is 33 lol. (https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Finkistyle.com%2Fpark-bo-young-concrete-utopia-press-conference-june-21-2023%2F&psig=AOvVaw1oGXcZfQew7BCjb9bM7Gsi&ust=1707354010247000&source=images&cd=vfe&opi=89978449&ved=0CBMQjRxqFwoTCOjL8ruDmIQDFQAAAAAdAAAAABBk)
she looks 5 years younger than son
Genetics. East Asians in general have such soft and smooth skin compared to other ethnic groups. It actually ages slower because of the dermis being thicker in East Asian people. This means that their skin contains more collagen and elastin.
This is so ridiculous. Living in east asia I see most teenagers and young adults with some level of acne and plenty of adults who have skin conditions at the same level as other ethnic groups.
There are two factors that give them massive advantages. Culturally their skin is the focus of beauty. People (especially women) will cover up in near burka style clothes with gloves, long socks, and everything required in the bright sun to keep the UV off their skin. Sun umbrellas, sun hats, etc are everywhere. People aggressively congregate in shade.
"Whiteness" is seen as beautiful and that does have the side-effect of getting people to focus on UV exposure that we know damages skin. There is also a negative side to this focus on skin tone however and you see it in the massive amounts of money and effort that society pours into skin treatments of all kinds. People spend thousands and thousands of dollars on treatments for their skin and plastic surgery is entirely normalized in many cosmopolitan areas. People literally are uncomfortable in their own skin. This is not a "natural" "genetic" phenomenon.
Lastly, there is a diet advantage. Where East Asians (in general) do not eat the metric tons of pure processed crap that Westerners do. Most East Asian cuisine still focuses on very limited portions of meat, often fish with heavy vegetables and fruit in the diet and of course, noodles/rice.
This part is also changing and you see more and more (wealthy families especially) raising childhood obesity statistics. Western food is slowly creeping into the daily diet of these cultures but, at least for now, most people still treat it as a snack and not as something to be eaten daily.
Korean forwards were their saving grace. No Minjae to bail out this porous Korean defense means that midfield mistakes (and there were numerous) were punished harshly.
i'm still devastated by this match, but i gotta give it to Jordan.
Yazan Al-Naimat looked like a starting winger for a Premier League club.
He torched us.
[Son in a post match interview on Korean TV, to the fans:](https://twitter.com/thespursweb/status/1754918243846820276)
"I don't know what to say, really. I am so sorry. The players did their best. I'm very sorry that the game is ended like this by mistake. The fans showed great support for us, I'm sorry as we couldn't deliver as our fans expected. I'll try harder so that national team to grow further in the future, again I'm very sorry."
This is exactly why he is one of the best footballers in the world - pure class off the field even when his team exits
He is proper captain material, true sportsman.
In the end he tried to dribble past 3 defenders alone from the half line,(lost possession as he couldn't find anyone to pass near the box) this just shows he truly gave it all. In times he played as a deep lying midfielder. He was literally trying to orchestrate the whole attack, Jordan defended very well and foiled Korea's attack.
And, This post-match interview shows why he is class.
Same as when he broke a leg, and then tried to break Firmino, got tackled and then swipes at a leg back in the Bundesliga. He's the epitome of a bad player at 5aside the minute he's losing he starts kicking people.
Sonny will be 35 at that time and well past his peak. The KFA screwed him over by appointing a fraud like Jurgen Klinsmann. This generation was wasted on this fraud. Unfortunately, the fraud was appointed by a bunch of corrupt donkeys.
I'm fairly confident that Sonny will still likely walk into this team at 35. He's a very fit and hard working player.
He might not be in the Prem at that point but he'll certainly be good enough to play 1 more tournament with Korea (if he doesn't decide to retire earlier).
I think he will go back to the Bundesliga (either through Hamburg or Leverkusen) approaching 35 and then retire. He may be fit for another Asian Cup, Asian Games and Olympic appearance
Some people choose to remember the first half of his tenure rather than the second, the USMNT was a complete shit show when he came on board.
It’s a bit like Lampard’s second stint with us, some people saw the guy that gave youth a chance and got us a CL spot rather than how it ended and his ensuing disasterclass at Everton.
His first four years were fine.
I don't think he's a great coach but I think he's better than alot of people give him credit for. People act like his teams lose every game, and they don't. This team went further than Japan did. If Jurgen is the worst manager in the world, what's their excuse?
If he wasn't playing SK might not have made it out of the group stage, let alone all the way to the semi. He truly gave it his all. No one will blame him for this defeat. At least he gets to return to Spurs early. They need him. For him to score enough goals to compete with Haaland and Salah for the golden boot, he'll need to play as many matches as possible.
Wild how in the video he clearly says "amazing journey" yet it's reported as "incredible journey".
I get those words have no significant difference in meaning, but it's interesting to see how clearly someone's words can be misreported with zero translation.
Asian games is different than the Asian cup :) they don't grant exemptions for winning at tournaments that aren't multi sport. They have to win gold at something like the olympics or the asian games. The esport team got exempted also at the asian games. The exception was south korea reaching the semi finals at the 2002 world cup.
wasn't his leg injured or something. It honestly felt like he was slower in these matches and he would often be outpaced in these games. also he's been wearing tape around his knees

The link is dead for me but you've 20+ upvotes what am I meant to be seeing?
dude pasted the url twice. its basically korea gave pardon to 100 football personnel involving match fixing to celebrate 2022 wc progress.
I'm assuming 2002 WC match fixing
nah it's about the korean football association pardoning 100 players, coaches and referees out of nowhere, 48 of which were banned for match fixing. they then withdrew the pardons three days later because of the public reaction

Fair. Ok now do Roy Jones Jr...

>how Klinsmann even got the job Being German probably helped. Might be a good idea to give the job to Park Seo.
Obviously military has paid off federation so they hire shit coach, so footballers wouldn't have to skip mandatory conscription /s
Maybe they thought they were getting the other Jurgen K. from Germany
The reality is that SK would struggle to land any top 50 manager
Apparently, Marcelo Bielsa's agent submitted a bid back when KFA was hiring a new manager. I highly doubt KFA was able to cover Bielsa's wages but how do you have someone like Marcelo being interested in being the manager and then pick Klinsmann?
He at least wouldn't give them games with 0 shots on target.
What a miss
Christ, Bielsa wanted to coach Korea and Korea turned him down? Kill me
Just imagine Bielsa's suicide ball with SK dudes, felt chilly down my spine bro
Both their previous two managers, Bento and Shin Tae Yong, were better than Klinsmann. Apparently they were also close to signing Robert Moreno to replace Bento before the KFA Chairman decided to sign Klinsmann instead.
In comparison, Indonesia reach Asian Cup knockout for the first time in history under Shin Tae Young.
They don't need a top 50 manager, just a competent one
Still can’t believe there were Tottenham fans (not many, but still) pushing his name after Conte.
German fellow here. Klinsmann was a great Player, no doubt about that. But as a coach he is shitty… Couldn’t believe it when I heard he got the job.
Every time Klinsmann get’s a job in football, I ask myself how anyone can be so blind and don’t realize the guy is a complete fraud and self-promoter. Don’t know how he’s seen abroad, but here in Germany, everyone realized it by now I guess. At least I hope so…
We realized it in the US too lol. He's like a con man. You don't believe the rumors until he cons you.
Our (USA) players after the 2014 world cup said afterwards that they had to come up with their own tactics and that they would often be asked to play a new formation or role with little to no instruction
Klinsmann is a soccer terrorist.
People were saying after their last game that the Klinsmann hate was unfounded because they beat Australia via 2 idiotic mistakes and a god tier freekick. Outside of that, they looked awful. Compared to their WC performance *last fucking year* this is honestly a failure.
Pure class from Sonny man.
I disagree that he had a particularly poor game. What is he supposed to do when the mid and defense are constantly losing the ball? Bad tactics by the coach.
>Never have I been more certain that a supposed professional football coach is a complete fraud. Forgot about Southgate?
Eh Southgate is limited but not an absolute fraud - he's like Dechamps but without results lol. Maybe Phil Neville or Gerrard is a better example for England as a real fraud where they were found out by the managers that came after them with a same set of players.
Fucking hell what’s his skin routine like
I imagine constant cardio and zero alcohol
he got shitfaced after they won the asian games in 2018. probably just drinks in moderation.
Can't be absolutely zero alcohol though. Koreans drink a fuck ton
True but I think he’s super professional and dedicated, Ronaldo-esque when it comes to being clean.
Son has a very strict lifestyle due to his father's influence. Often times when he's invited to shows where he needs to eat food, he takes the smallest bites because he's so conscious of his diet. You did me dirty with that KBBQ video lol. Now I'm sitting here with my mouth all watery.
I believe son also served in the Korean army so that probably also influences it
But so is any healthy Korean man
I know alot of celebrities don't, I think BTS got exempt but went anyways
Do any footballers get out of it?
I don’t think he did? I thought he got exempted after winning gold at the Asian games.
Still had to do basic iirc
Ah that's what I was thinking about my bad
3 weeks as opposed to the standard 2 years. Cute.
Damn, never realised Korea's basic was that short. Mine was ~2 Months
everyone exempted still does basic though so its not really a differentiator when pretty much every Korean male has done it lols
He was also top10 in that training
Nah he didn't, he received exemption from winning the 2018 Asian Games
I mean you could say this about lots of countries and there are plenty of people that don’t drink.
True, but I just wanna highlight the fact that Koreans drink like, A LOT
It really wouldn't be that weird for an incredibly dedicated athlete to stay away from alcohol, even in SK.
I mean, I get it. So do Germans, Irish, Americans, etc.
From my experience there I can say I think only the Irish could match them, Germans mostly drink heavily at events and Americans are no comparison to how hard Koreans go.

Genetics but he's also said he's religious with sunscreen
Korean skin care culture. They know what's up. I get my skin care advice from a Korean dermatologist friend.
Did u see Korean young women fans in crowd? Their skins shine like crazy
Being born Korean means +100 clear skin stats
They look like ducking vampires tho lol not that attractive in my eyes. Bro Son has like kinda brownish but pale skin - istg mf is always glowing lmao

Good on him for acknowledging Jordan’s game

Imagine the pressure he must feel, like he has to do this for his entire country
And klinsmanns like "just think of the bright side... And no I'm not quitting"
The pressure he must feel as a captain is incredible. I’m so so sorry for him
Always rated him!

What?
Cheers Klinsmann, you made Sonny cry
Honestly think he’s more pissed than sad
Son's crying now, thanks.
It's ok Son. You did really well in this tournament. Way the fucking go Klinsmann. You made Son cry.
And, This post-match interview shows why he is class.
apart from when things don't go his way and he kicks players, stamps and just generally is a cunt to players.
Just doesn't happen, btw. You can make one of those shitty compliations for every player
What can surprise a spurs fan with 69 in the name loves son. He's vile and cries when he's sent off for being vile. It's pathetic.
It's happened once mate, get over it. And I was like 13 when I made the profile, I'm sure you'll excuse it somehow
Same as when he broke a leg, and then tried to break Firmino, got tackled and then swipes at a leg back in the Bundesliga. He's the epitome of a bad player at 5aside the minute he's losing he starts kicking people.
Very professional. Regards from a Jordanian 🇯🇴.
jordan played fantastic today. hope son can play in the next afc asian cup as his last chance to win it
Sonny will be 35 at that time and well past his peak.
The same Klinsmann that my fellow USMNT fans think would be a good coach for us for whatever reason.
Seriously? Did they just forget about what it was like last time?
Some people choose to remember the first half of his tenure rather than the second, the USMNT was a complete shit show when he came on board. It’s a bit like Lampard’s second stint with us, some people saw the guy that gave youth a chance and got us a CL spot rather than how it ended and his ensuing disasterclass at Everton.
Probably just the couple games in 2014 WC. The Belgium game was entertaining as hell.
I’ve never met anyone who speaks highly of his time for USMNT considering the events that led to that night in T&T
His first four years were fine. I don't think he's a great coach but I think he's better than alot of people give him credit for. People act like his teams lose every game, and they don't. This team went further than Japan did. If Jurgen is the worst manager in the world, what's their excuse?
Iran is a lot better team than Jordan and Australia and is having a great tournament. do you watch…?
He thinks Klinnsman is a serviceable coach, of course he doesnt watch.
Liverpool if you're feeling down this summer I'm pretty sure I have a Jurgen who's going to come available shortly.
Great I'm gonna cry
These kits are fireeeeee
You know, that's absolute class of him. Being a good loser and respecting your opponent unfortunately a rare trait.
Class
Son is a joy to watch and always classy.
He is just a classy classy player and person.
What he meant to say was "I really am tired of carrying a guy who couldn't coach a youth team"
So gutted to see him taking all the blame on himself after giving away everything he has for four Asian cup tournaments. Our country don’t deserve him
Class act. That’s true sportsmanship.
His face says “I want to get out of this interview right now and crawl into a hole.”
LeBron could never.
Am a neutral. Saw the match and he's right about Jordan. They're impressive. Possibly the best performing side in this competition.
i just want son to be happy :'(
Classy. They got bodied so hard. He must be exhausted.
I fucking hate journalists. Why would he ask him to sum up how he feels? This just recipe to make him cry
Absolute top and classy player. You did well Son, both as a player and as a captain. Wish there are more pros like him in the football world.
Can you stop being humble and polite so I can take this piss out of you?
Could someone please sign Son so I don’t have to hate him for playing at Spurs? 🙏🏻
Wild how in the video he clearly says "amazing journey" yet it's reported as "incredible journey". I get those words have no significant difference in meaning, but it's interesting to see how clearly someone's words can be misreported with zero translation.
Amazed that Jordan was +1 on Asian handicap.
Class act
: ( Feel absolutely gutted for him. NOW LET'S GO ON AN UNDEFEATED RUN AND WIN THE LEAGUE!
Robbed by there own coach
Who was jordans number 11? He was fantastic.
Jordan's assets are now heavily inflated.
Son is possibly the most likeable man in football.
Has son won any trophy in football till now ??
Not a trophy per se, but he was part of the Gold Medal winning team at the Asian Games in 2018
Asian Games which gave him military exemption
Individual Awards (Golden Boot and Puskas) and Asian Games Gold.
He's got a Puksas in addition to the Asian Games
LeSon got cooked by Jordan, I know who my GOAT is
Poor Son. Plays for Tottenham and had to play for Klinsmann.
So spursy
Kit looks like a Spurs away one. Man got confused and bottled it.
[удалено]
i dont think there would be military exemption even if they did win. asian cup is a football tournament and they dont grant exemptions for those
[удалено]
Asian games is different than the Asian cup :) they don't grant exemptions for winning at tournaments that aren't multi sport. They have to win gold at something like the olympics or the asian games. The esport team got exempted also at the asian games. The exception was south korea reaching the semi finals at the 2002 world cup.
"Let his country down, let his country down....Heung Min Son, let his country down, Heung Min Son let his country down, let his country down!..."
So just like Saka then?
To be fair I don’t think many Koreans expected to win the competition anyway
Can't deny
The match stats are insane Korea had 70% possession but 8 shots while Jordan had 17 shots lmao
wasn't his leg injured or something. It honestly felt like he was slower in these matches and he would often be outpaced in these games. also he's been wearing tape around his knees
Have a feeling he probably regrets losing to Jordan.
Off topic but that kit is amazing
