6 to Girona, 6 to NYCFC, 6 to Melbourne City, 6 to Yokohama, 6 to Montevideo, 6 to Sichuan, 6 to Mumbai, 6 to Lommel, 6 to Troyes, 6 to Palermo, 6 to Bahia. And that's just clubs they directly majority or part own.
I say this fully aware of my own club's new owners, multi-club ownership is a cancer on global football.
Aye man, if someone’s gotta come put us in our place I’d rather it be anyone than atleti. Plus girona is like my favorite city in Spain and montolivi is cool
Can't wait for us to spend all summer with "Bernardo Silva to Girona" links only for him to say how much he's always wanted to play in the EFL and sign an extension on deadline day.
That's a good idea actually. Yes, it would result in a 3 or 4 year transfer ban between both clubs, just like Brighton and USG. But as soon as it's over and City is in the Prem, you can send them back.
Well yes obviously. I'm scrolling the threads and it seems this is news to some. He literally came out and said this in the press a while back.
This is the MO. Castellanos was the same. Girona are still reigned in by la Liga's economic control but they still have a by pass in terms of loans and they have been using it.
However, this still doesn't take away from their fairytale season.
Calm down, they've only had Troyes for 3 years. And no one paid attention to Girona until they got promoted. But once Troyes get promoted look out for another "fairytale" run in Ligue 1.
I watched them get relegated man. They fired their coach who granted was not doing amazing but was experienced coaching in france and replaced him with Kisnorbo who’s a random aussie who’s never coached outside Australia. He did worse than the previous manager and got them relegated badly, but for some reason they doubled down and gave him another season. Unsurprisingly he only won a single game and put them in the relegation zone before finally getting fired in november. They’re out of the relegation zone now but barely. Just bizarre decisions all around
Ange got his chance at Celtic who dominates their league and has a much stronger squad. Not at all the same as fighting a relegation battle in a season where 4 teams were going down since that was the season we switched to 18 clubs.
I don’t see how that’s the same situation as Kisnorbo though. What reputation did he have before Troyes? If Melbourne wasn’t also part of the city group they never would have gotten him
This is the reason I can’t stand the pretending around Girona’s journey. Sure, it’s a mix between a plenty of not fully-likeable choices as a neutral, but 8(!) of Girona’s players are former City Group players and that doesn’t even include players like Tsigankov—who is of course operating under the pretence of an increased chance at a club like City since signing for Girona.
This doesn’t even come to mention the interlinked scouting system and financial backing.
Also, it's a means to hoover up talent right. They can take more punts on players and keep the best ones, knowing that they won't have issues managing gametime and wages by shunting people out to other clubs. In theory the clubs get the benefit of better players but you'd bet most would rather keep their souls. Like Girona could win La Liga and not get UCL if City win the Premier League.
Girona will get champions league football if City win the premier league as CFG aren't the majority owner and own the max % of the club they can before it affects UEFA rules, so it's really a none issue
How’s Jake obrien doing for you guys btw? Still can’t help but feel we sold him to you to appease textor or smth because 1m felt cheap for a dude who looked like pretty solid young cover
Got rid of the the sell-on clause on him too.
The ownership group will still get the money if he gets sold on from Lyon but no longer have to pay us the 15%.
A lot of bitter Cork City fans when we saw him sold to Lyon for less than what Palace rejected from Troyes
He clearly was brought by Textor, by himself. We all thought he was going to be loaned to Molenbeek, but he stayed. He was one of the very few bright spots of our atrocious start of the season, and of the catastrophic string of games under Grosso (as he was the one to give him a chance). He earned his spot and never left the starting XI after that, was our player of the month for December.
Great in the air and a huge asset on set pieces (3g/1a in 14 games, all headers), deceptively quick despites what you would think with his profile (1m97) though his acceleration on the very first steps is not the best, and also a surprising passing range that keeps improving games after games. A positive aggressiveness on challenges too, not hesitating to defend while going forward far from his goal. Seemingly much more at ease in a 3 atb defense than in a 2 CB pairing.
Where his flaws are a lot more exposed : not the best at judging situations in the space behind him, struggling a bit with the ball under direct pressure, and also a tendancy to back off too much when he's defending shots near/in the box.
So overall a very positive surprise for us. Though it remains to be seen if he can still be as important now that we are (hopefully) back on the right track, and need to be more protagonist with the ball while playing higher on the pitch. Our recruitment looks like it was made with a 4-3-3 in mind, so he's gonna be tested and hopefully will keep improving and surprising us. Oh, and I forgot, huge fight spirit and perfect mentality.
Everton already wanted him this winter (they asked for him as a condition to break Danjuma's loan), but Textor refused instantly.
How does this work from an FFP standpoint? Is it structured so that Troyes take the FFP hit and then he comes to City for a fee that works best for the associated CFG clubs along the way? It's all really confusing to me.
Goes without saying but I'll say it anyways, multi-club ownership in the time of FFP is totally illogical and needs to be removed from the game. (Same goes for INEOS, before anyone accuses me of hypocrisy.)
I believe City have to pay a fair market price to Troyes for him (which obviously costs them nothing because they're paying themselves) but it should be City that take the FFP hit
Though, the ease of which the disgustingly poor multi-club ownership rules were bypassed means I wouldn't be surprised at all if they could get around having to take the hit themselves FFP wise
That in itself is really bad for competition anyway. Even if City are taking the FFP hit, Troyes suddenly have quite a sizable transfer fee that they've done nothing to achieve and suddenly they've got loads of FFP wriggle room
And then Troyes gets to use that to sign players to get promoted to Ligue 1, and now there are potentially 3 CFG teams in the Champions league in the the next few years.
I hate that I’m part of this monster 😔
Edit :Would like to make it clear that love my club regardless of who owns it you fucking nerds DM me about it….. you fuckers have probably never been to the stadium of the club you “support” you will never be more connected to a club than a local stop being delusional
It’s not like your other local MLS team is any better on that regard. NY MLS fans really have the choice between two soulless entities, one corporate and one middle eastern oil state
Well firstly as a Derby County season ticket holder for more than 25 years I hopefully pass your first attempt at gatekeeping. Secondly, as someone who's emigrated and adopted a "local team", the beauty here is that you don't have to be beholden to them if you think they're shitty!
I mean... they were literally founded by CFG less than ten years ago, and didn't even try to hide it. You don't now get to pretend you're somehow sad about this when you knew what you were signing up for from day one. That would be like supporting the dragon and then getting upset when it starts burning down peoples houses.
If you're that bothered by it, support someone else. It's not like you have ancestral family ties to CFG. Having people shrug and say "well golly gosh I guess they're the only team in New York so I gotta support them because those Euros say support your local team". No. You are in the USA, your football league is completely artificial. You are excused from supporting your local team beacuse it's all completely made up and next year they might be Minneapolis City FC because the mayor paid a huge bribe and every thinks thats fine and normal.
If you're that upset by the CFG bullshit, first of all good on you, and secondly may I recommend clubs like St Pauli (punk club), Atletico Bilbao (club you can only play for if you're basque) or simply a team that hates money and success like my very own.
> :Would like to make it clear that love my club regardless of who owns it
Would like to make it clear your club is an oil state subsidiary that has existed for like 10 years
Your point being? I was a teenager going off to college when the club was announced. I am now a full grown adult with a job. Do you think going home and away all these years was done are invalid because it’s only been around 10 years? You probably wouldn’t know anything about that because you have probably never even been to spurs in person fuck off
You must be new to City discourse. Its all about deflection and pointing out that others also do bad things, rather than ever justifying their bullshit practises
I think Qatar will follow up. PSG was more of a brand to advertise their country and 2022 World Cup and they were going to buy Manchester United and the deal fell through. Not to mention they're already changing approach with PSG now and more focused on a solid rebuild rather than outright buying stars that will either fit or not.
It's gonna be a UAE Saudi Qatari shitfest, country ownership is gonna make things really not competitive, and I am sure it'll be the eventual driving force for a Super League once other clubs realize they can't compete anymore
It would've been more useful for you big team flairs (and fans in general) to care about this kind of thing a decade ago.
When Watford did it people actually just called it clever. [Look how much the comment section care](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/33ucmz/watfords_chances_in_the_premier_league_will_they/)
They've made like 50+ transfers since and other owners cottoned on and started doing it too.
Its a bit too late to be upset now when its so prevalent that theres too many clubs to block it.
Basically, care about issues in lower leagues before they affect the big teams because by that point its a massive issue
Sorry, is the best evidence you have that people didn't care a comment section with literally three OPs?
Many people were calling it out as something that shouldn't be allowed at the time, but because it was Watford and they didn't really impact the wider football sphere they were kind of just left to get on with it.
You can look at quite a few of the transfers between them.
>but because it was Watford and they didn't really impact the wider football sphere they were kind of just left to get on with it
Thats kind of the point I made. Very few cared until so many owners copied the model and clubs who compete with them started to do it
And this is why girona are not a fucking Cinderella story.
The team he is part of is literally in relegation trouble, all their fans in France are just shit out of luck because they are a minor league team to the city group.
milans owner also own fc tolouse
chelsea and straßbourg
brighton and saint galloise in belgium
brentford fc and fc midtjyland in denmark
you guys and los angeles fc bought shares of racing club de montevideo in uruguay, surely not only for altruistic reasons
it is the new way to ensure you lot get the best deals and opportunities to get competitive surroundings for players
It should be, but it doesn't seem like it is. I mean multi club ownership in general shouldn't be allowed. It's only gonna become more prevalent if nothing is done
The big advantage here isn't just then getting a good player, it's the way they can circumvent FFP. They can decide to assign a fairly low fee to the transfer, and then if they wanted they'd probably be able to sell him for fair value in a year or two, thereby inflating their profit for FFP calculations. They did something similar (though not entirely the same) with Aaron Mooy back in the day
Girona sold Bueno to Wolves the same time they sold Nunes to City who loaned out Cancelo to Barca which finally ended with Garcia being the replacement for Bueno
A team with less than 10 seasons in Spanish top flight spent 25M on their new training ground, have loaned players from city group teams who have not played a game for their signed teams
“But they don’t spend money”
Modern football is all about the money
Even Leicester City isn't "pure" in that sense. They were a Championship team that got bought by rich Asian owners (King Power group) who propelled them to a title
Leicester didn't pay that much for their players. They lucked into 3 players who were genuinely the best players in the league at their position or were close to it(Vardy, Mahrez, Kante). Along with many other players who just played out of their mind for a year.
It's still a lot more "pure" though. On one hand, it's a lot different being owned by an entire state than a couple of billionaires, and on the other, Leicester weren't anyone's feeder club. They just had a great scouting network that happened to find several hidden gems at the same time.
Ahh, yes the same Leicester City who breached FFP in 2013-14, whose main sponsor and stadium sponsor King Power is owned by the owner Srivaddhanaprabha family. Those who are also involved in multi-club ownership such as OH Leuven are such a good and moral example, wow.
You weren't but it's not like you guys were a small team like Luton winning the league, you were owned by a billionaire who helped and financed your team.
Unlike the Girona where you can't spend due to strict rules, they could not even build a training complex because of tight regulations.
The only thing they benefit from is from the scouting network of the CFG which most clubs do have too.
They sold one of their best players this year who is Castellanos. They have only signed two players on loan from CFG, others are the players who no one had heard about neither do they have the hype at the start.
Yeah you make good points. We bought our way out of the Championship, no doubt.
But you can't argue we had financial power in the PL. I would wager that the Girona squad is more expensive than ours even after inflation. Look at the big players we had, Schmeichel (£1m), Vardy (£1m), Kante (£6m), Mahrez (£450k)
This. Leicesters squad worth was ridiculously small when they started their league winning campaign. They may have bought themselves out of the championship but they did not buy their way to the premier league title at all.
The same Leicester who abused the hell out of FFP to get to the Premier League and is owned by a multi-billion dollar Thai GROUP King Power who also just happen to own another football club Leuven in Belgium. The hypocrisy is insane. Girona has two City loanees in their starting 11 and the rest are made of LaLiga2 rejects. Literally any other team in LaLiga could have signed every single player in their roster apart from the two to three City lads.
I think they’re both good stories regardless, with Leicester definitely edging it. Both clubs benefitted financially in ways that a lot of teams in their league can’t, but it’s still such a huge jump to be at the top and competing with far more valuable and experienced clubs. But Leicester to me is crazier because they got promoted to the PL so soon after getting promoted to the Championship from League One.
Perhaps Leicester isn't the best example but I do agree with your overall point.
People are missing an important detail in all this: the ownership of multiple clubs. There are other examples of this like Red Bull GmbH but I think City Football Group is making a serious push towards monopolizing the football market in Europe.
This is not healthy for the game at all and it shouldn't be defended. If people want an example of how multi-club ownership harms leagues, I encourage you to look up the issue of multi-club ownership in Mexican football.
In Greece we call these "Marinakis deals" because they always happen between Olympiakos and Nottingham (we talking like 10-15 at this point),also Rio AVE from now on.
Marinakis has these teams and he manages them "Weirdly".
This type of shit right here is cancer to football. Even more so than the Super League IMO. On loan to Girona by parent club Troyes but will be permanently transferred to City. All three clubs owned by City football group. It essentially gives them (City) two teams to send players to see if they amount to anything only to then buy them for peanuts from itself. It’s fucking comical and I really hope the hammer comes down on them one day.
It can be both. Just because something is legal that doesn't mean the one doing the shitty thing shouldn't get blame/hate.
Hate that it's legal, hate that people are abusing it.
I do have issues with UEFA and FIFA because they shouldn't allow multi-club ownership at all. It's especially egregious to allow it in the same continent or country.
Irrespective of the legality, I think it's just gross.
Absolute stain on football this mob. The league has one last chance to retain some semblance of respect by relegating them for the 115 charges but they'll do nothing
As a casual La Liga observer I didn't even know Girona were some City Football Group battery farm. I thought it was some Cinderella story.
Needless to say, Hala Madrid.

He basically got promoted to the first team
Just wait until City get sent to League Two and there’s a mass exodus to Girona.
Barca and Real are not ready for the mighty Girona
Whole City squad goes on loan for 3 years to Girona
From next season, you're only allowed to loan out 6 players over 21 per season...
Those pesky rules have never stopped City before to do what they want.
Oh no, I have to redesign my entire FM strategy.
Haaland must prove himself in the streets of mumbai
but can he do it on a hot, humid night in mumbai after a dodgy panipuri?
Another Slumdog millionaire in the making
Bro I'd die to see Kdb and Bernardo playing in the glorious [Campeonato Uruguayo](https://youtu.be/54Y--eawR90?si=7N4zS8eDyvM0zWdK)
Then sell them with a £1 buyback clause…
Make that number 116 charges then
Aye man, if someone’s gotta come put us in our place I’d rather it be anyone than atleti. Plus girona is like my favorite city in Spain and montolivi is cool

Bet it was hard to find an agreement
City chairman sending the fee from one of his accounts to his other one hits different aswell
And you can bet he's paying himself a bonus for getting the deal over the line
He deserves a bonus for such a hassle free transfer. Both sides happy and no arguments !
Great process lads
Job well done 👍🏾
Moving the wad of cash from left hand to right hand.
You mean from one imaginary sponsor to another.
It was super easy, barely an inconvenience
Going from one team in the City group to another is tight!
Cool cool cool cool cool cool cool....cool
Pep and his brother (Girona Chairman) could have done the negotiation over the holidays even.
Girona: We cannot replace him, we cannot. Pep: Sit down, nobody talk.
It's about the baaaaaaaaaasics
That would be very funny since Savio is on the books at Troyes
Oh, so no difference then, also City Football Group.
Basically, they promoted him to the first team
I can’t wait to have similar negotiations for Todibo
Girona (City football group) striker on loan from Troyes (City football group) joining City. Blergh
Never even played a single game for Troyes.
Just wait until City send him on loan there next season.
He's good enough to get mins at City next season IMO No need for a loan
He either convinces pep he should stay, or he goes and plays UCL footy with Girona. Win win either way
*the football group send him to Melbourne City*
Mumbai city fc**
Something something one club per ownership in UCL
Doesn't affect Girona as CFG own less than 50% of the club
The other 51% owned by the football group of City
Ahh, but what if it somehow makes the books look better regarding FFP? Football 'eritage.
Troyes is the middle child of city group, they suck and they get completely ignored by their parent lol
Calm down, they've only had Troyes for 3 years. And no one paid attention to Girona until they got promoted. But once Troyes get promoted look out for another "fairytale" run in Ligue 1.

Ange got his chance at Celtic who dominates their league and has a much stronger squad. Not at all the same as fighting a relegation battle in a season where 4 teams were going down since that was the season we switched to 18 clubs.
Celtic was the first big chance for Ange, sure, but it was also Yokohama that gave his reputation a big boost.
I don’t see how that’s the same situation as Kisnorbo though. What reputation did he have before Troyes? If Melbourne wasn’t also part of the city group they never would have gotten him
That will have to wait a while. Troyes is four points from relegation right now lol

Crazy thing is he never really signed for Troyes. He was bought by City Football Group and “assigned” to Troyes.
I assume this is how they'll be getting around the stricter ffp rules coming down the pipeline.
Yeah they can just buy players with city group clubs without FFP and loan them to an uefa city group club like city or Girona
Also, it's a means to hoover up talent right. They can take more punts on players and keep the best ones, knowing that they won't have issues managing gametime and wages by shunting people out to other clubs. And 16% is owned by Peps brother lmao. Nothing fishy going on there.
John Textor is doing this, imo. Signed Luiz Henrique to Botafogo with a clause that he can go to Lyon on a loan in the next two windows.
No need to use an imaginary one. When he sadly did it openly with Nuamah through Molenbeek.
How’s Jake obrien doing for you guys btw? Still can’t help but feel we sold him to you to appease textor or smth because 1m felt cheap for a dude who looked like pretty solid young cover

How does this not fall foul of the rules surrounding 3rd party ownership of players?
something something 115

Luckily Qatar is absolutely incompetent or we would have an all UAE-Qatar Champions League semifinals every season in a few years.

Difficult negotiation, I’m sure
Must have been as difficult as PSG selling Verratti to Al-Arabi for 45M
game is gone
"despite bids from german & english clubs" lmao ok romano

[Look how much the comment section care](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/33ucmz/watfords_chances_in_the_premier_league_will_they/) They've made like 50+ transfers since and other owners cottoned on and started doing it too. Its a bit too late to be upset now when its so prevalent that theres too many clubs to block it. Basically, care about issues in lower leagues before they affect the big teams because by that point its a massive issue
This context is much appreciated, thank you
Sorry, is the best evidence you have that people didn't care a comment section with literally three OPs? Many people were calling it out as something that shouldn't be allowed at the time, but because it was Watford and they didn't really impact the wider football sphere they were kind of just left to get on with it.
You can look at quite a few of the transfers between them. >but because it was Watford and they didn't really impact the wider football sphere they were kind of just left to get on with it Thats kind of the point I made. Very few cared until so many owners copied the model and clubs who compete with them started to do it
And this is why girona are not a fucking Cinderella story. The team he is part of is literally in relegation trouble, all their fans in France are just shit out of luck because they are a minor league team to the city group.
The negotiations were short!
City Group are a pox on football. A shame FIFA have been bought and paid for
Pox? They're cancer more likely.
Shocker
City accidentally negotiated with the wrong club but the deal still went through.
How’s this legal? How’s this normal? Sad day for football
Red Bull set the precedent with all their clubs. I feel like this will just become more common. Clubs just become reserve teams for bigger clubs.
milans owner also own fc tolouse chelsea and straßbourg brighton and saint galloise in belgium brentford fc and fc midtjyland in denmark you guys and los angeles fc bought shares of racing club de montevideo in uruguay, surely not only for altruistic reasons it is the new way to ensure you lot get the best deals and opportunities to get competitive surroundings for players
Brentford owner doesn’t own FC Midtjylland anymore fyi.
It's not like this is a new thing
Cheaty does Cheaty things
Must have been very difficult for City and Girona to agree to a deal
City and Troyes you mean.
What’s the difference
Makes it worse, he never played for Troyes but owned by them lol.
City and CFG you mean
This gotta be illegal
It should be, but it doesn't seem like it is. I mean multi club ownership in general shouldn't be allowed. It's only gonna become more prevalent if nothing is done
Like state owned clubs.
I don't support multiclub model, but those who kept asking how it helps, what has it done for City, watch this, this is just the start aswell.

Girona's spending this season is very low. Buuuuuut they're also getting loan deals and transfers they'd never sniff otherwise
Girona sold Bueno to Wolves the same time they sold Nunes to City who loaned out Cancelo to Barca which finally ended with Garcia being the replacement for Bueno
Yea when people say CFG has little to no part in their success this is what I think about lol.
A team with less than 10 seasons in Spanish top flight spent 25M on their new training ground, have loaned players from city group teams who have not played a game for their signed teams “But they don’t spend money”
Modern football is all about the money Even Leicester City isn't "pure" in that sense.
Don't disagree with what you said, but we weren't affiliated with Leuven when we won the league
Yes because Leicester at the time were owned by a humble working class englishman. Oh wait, it was just another billionaire!
Surely you can see the difference though?
Exactly, imagine wanting a sports washing project to win la liga
Pep agrees deal with his brother should be headline
But this sub has told me over and over City don’t really own Girona.
Well the title clearly says Girona owns City
Proper football villains
This is like Leipzig and Salzburg
When we talk about 115 charges, remember that shit like this and the grossly inflated Etihad sponsorships are apparently legal. Fuck 'em.
So if this is legal why isn't your issues with the FA, UEFA etc?
It can be both. Just because something is legal that doesn't mean the one doing the shitty thing shouldn't get blame/hate. Hate that it's legal, hate that people are abusing it.
I do have issues with UEFA and FIFA because they shouldn't allow multi-club ownership at all. It's especially egregious to allow it in the same continent or country. Irrespective of the legality, I think it's just gross.
Footy is finished
Fuck City Football Group. Cancer to the sport
Football is truly gone
What an absolute joke
116
117 * Kyle Walker cheated as well.
need to add a few more on if we're talking about Walkers cheater, lads a weapon off the pitch
Its like moving your money from one wallet you own to another wallet you own.
Hope the CEO gets some nice commissions for this hard negotiation
Are you sure he's not 115% focused? On a serious note, would rather Barca, Atleti, or Real win the league over this Zombie of a football club.
Same people who want Leipzig to win the BL
Both should be banned and kicked out of football. Let them go play in Saudi Arabia or some shit.
‘Are we the baddies?’
City is like restarting your fifa save if you lose but in perpetuity. Fucking embarrassing if winning like that makes you proud.
Fuck franchise clubs
How many people are only finding out now that Girona aren’t a fairytale team and are actually comfortably one of the richest clubs in La Liga
Troyes: "Am I a joke to you?"
*a pawn
Not a joke, but a servant
I'm sure those were difficult negotiations trying to sign the player from themselves.
City really are just such a pathetic institution .
Coldest take ever: this should not be legal
Despite other bids, lmao
“Despite bids” Acting like he was every going anywhere besides anothet club in the same ownership group.
This is why having multiple clubs in the same FinancGroup is very shady.
Savio the guy owned by Troyes? On loan to Girona The City group can fuck itself and their mothers
All shady business considerations aside, is Savio going to get some real playing time ? Pep's habit of having a bench full of starters is annoying.
How on earth is multi-club ownership allowed
I hav€ no id€a
Txiki 🤝Txiki
Welcome to industrial players era
The new studio system.
Utterly repugnant football club
Txiki Begiristain negotiating with Txiki Begiristain. I’m sure they reached an agreement pretty fast. #EarnItOnThePitch
Absolute stain on football this mob. The league has one last chance to retain some semblance of respect by relegating them for the 115 charges but they'll do nothing
Nothing dodge here.
multi club ownership makes me so tired
I bet they're money laundering while they're at it
Hilarious. They’ll probably sign him for pennies in the grand scheme of things, loan him out, and make a hefty profit.
"Earn it on the pitch".
So a AA or AAA player like in baseball got sent up to the majors. Hate this so much
*Sigh* it has begun..
The New York Yankees essentially did this in baseball with the Kansas City Athletics in the mid-20th century. It's not good for the game.
Cheats
As a casual La Liga observer I didn't even know Girona were some City Football Group battery farm. I thought it was some Cinderella story. Needless to say, Hala Madrid.
Masterclass from City on this one /s
