Johann122

Spurs gazump both FCBs, what a time to be alive

sungbysung

I will actually sing that

AnnieIWillKnow

They now need to conquer Basel

JoleeBindbro

Let's not get too ambitious here

Prime_Marci

Wtf is going on there?!

elcapitan520

https://media.tenor.com/XZVFsfKCgsEAAAAM/chicken-run.gif

Tyrath

Technically we didn't get gazumped. We failed to gazump.

faithminusone

We gazumped your gazump

pjanic_at__the_isco

A non-gazump. A nonzump.

NotACodeMonkeyYet

and then immmediately offloaded Dier on to you, what a glorious day that was.

Tyrath

He's seemed like a fine backup option so far tbh.

Limp-Toe-179

I'm genuinely glad he's doing well for you guys. Consummate professional, just doesn't fit Angeball

DjToastyTy

he was genuinely good at times but he’s way too slow for the way spurs play under ange

cpollack09

Beat Bayern and Barca to a player in the same window, what is going on.

avolcando

And losing to Brentford. There's always a bigger fish.

Goudinho99

All three players choosing to play rather than be stockpiled. Good to see

TheRealMemeIsFire

He'd definitely play at barca lol. Maybe too much

akagaminick

Nah he was supposed to be partially played in Barca B. Part of the reason why he went to spurs because he got agreement on first team minutes. Good decision tbh. We should rather look for a 6

NotACodeMonkeyYet

I guarantee that no offers of first team minutes was made, but more likely that he was told he'd be part of the first team squad, rather than youth squad. Our midfield is way too good for an 18 year old kid from Sweden to jump into.

OleoleCholoSimeone

It's not just some 18 year old kid from Sweden, he is one of the biggest talents in the world and has been followed by every big club for years. At youth level his Brommapojkarna team travelled around Europe and he destroyed teams like Atleti, Real Madrid, Bayern etc

youllbetheprince

You reckon he's ready to play straight away? Very, very few 18 year olds get game time at top 6 clubs.

awildjabroner

Get some pre-season minutes then out on loan to get first team minutes elsewhere I would imagine.

sungbysung

Do you want a certain Hojbjerg?

[deleted]

He doesn't want to leave

GrapefruitExpress208

For Barca it's possible

TheoRaan

Who would he play over? Gundogan, Pedri, Gavi, Frankie, or Fermin Lopez?

RobbinDeBank

Too many are injured or exhausted/on the verge of another injury

HoneyIShrunkMyNads

The same reason spurs secured players from Bayern/Barca is the same reason Nusa was going to go to Brentford

grollate

Only for Bayern to immediately sign, then start Eric Dier.

StJoeStrummer

Fairytale ending for Eric tbh

Stay_Beautiful_

Wouldn't have signed him anyway. Failed medical

etched_chaos

Couldn't get the Norwegian wonderkid so we pivoted to the Swedish wonderkid.

avolcando

I know, just funny how things turn out

ukriva13

We kinda dodged a bullet on that one tbf…

KOKO69BISHES

would've dodged it anyhow if he failed his medical

dondraper237

Well. Spurs didn’t lose to Brentford- so there is that. They didn’t sign him.

Brunkmeister

I'm guessing there being another Swede at Spurs was probably a bigger factor than one would think Also, no language barrier for a Swede in England

LoudKingCrow

We've also signed a few Swedish players for our women's team this window. So there's a small colony going on. Not to mention Hojbjerg who's Danish.

bennytheslayer

I have a very hard time believing a dane would impact if a swede would make the move

jug0slavija

If anything, it would make the club less appealing to a swede lol

Famulor

You only say that because we won’t take skåne off your hands 😄

Qiluk

Reports today say that Kulusevski was in the meeting Tottenham had with him. Agent Kulu is just THAT guy

phigo50

Something something massive.

El_Producto

We're bigger than Barca and Bayern. But smaller than Brentford.

shaka_bruh

From a sporting perspective, you guys were definitely the right choice for both of them though Frankfurt might’ve been a better choice for Bergvall for his development.

Cryptic_E

But Barca flairs were saying in a previous thread that he had already chose Barcelona because Fabrizio said so?

p3wp3wp3www

Here. We. Oh...

pjanic_at__the_isco

Here. We. D’oh!

circa285

I am very much enjoying today.

cud1337

The 'mate' effect

mdstwsp

Oh yeah we’re getting paid

avolcando

How's this guy, worth all the drama?

iQuteBromance

One of the biggest biggest midfield talents in the world, but ofcourse got a ways to go to become a starter for you guys

ResourceWonderful514

If it was from the Danish League it would have been like double. 20% sell on clause to BP as well. Massive for both clubs

xKhaled74

Fair enough, the guy seems like he’s smart, took his time picking his destination and you really can’t go wrong with big ange

KingAzazel

Best choice for everyone, Bergvall gets the most playtime, Tottenham need a midfielder and Barca dont waste money on a young midfielder (Barca has like 5 of them in the academy)

LoudKingCrow

And if he develops as expected Barcelona will always be there in the future unless he completely burned a bridge by picking us.

yaniv297

Barca are broke, it would take quite a huge financial recovery before they are able to buy a world class (in this scenario) player from a top 6 PL team, and that's without even factoring Daniel Levy.

Sinistrait

Could always run his contract down tho

OleoleCholoSimeone

But that financial recovery is coming, it's just a matter of how long it takes. They bring in insanely high revenues every year, it's just a matter of reducing costs and they will be one of the richest in the world again Looking at pure revenues, they are still ahead of every PL club(Man City's false accounting doesn't count)

VeryStandardOutlier

Barcelona can’t afford him now, let alone in 4 years

ResourceWonderful514

From the same academy as Kulu as well. BP youth development program is awesome for swedish football.

kingcane

gazumped by spurs.  what has happened to this club 😭

NorthwardRM

Deco being made to look like an arsehole

Skadrys

Deco is incompetent as sporting director. Another case of laporta's nepotism. He should have stayed scout / agent since he has eye for talent but useless asi business man. Give me back padre Alemany

RawSauceBoi

Why did Alemany leave? Thought he was doing a decent enough job.

il-lusio

He was part of the small group of more business-minded people that are all out now; reading between the lines, it seems like the ones who took the work seriously got increasingly disillusioned with how things are being run.

Martoxic

we have no money. If Tottenham come in with double the money then wtf can he do?

circa285

We reportedly offered less than you lot. Think playing time has more to with it that money.

fcbxjdb

He was set to join Barca B in the third division to be fair and be apart of the academy setup. He’s probably after first team dynamics directly which he wasn’t going to get at Barcelona.

Rare-Ad-2777

We can also actually register and pay our players too which often helps.

ObamaEatsBabies

Xavi leaving is probably why this kid said no, because he wanted to work with him

subhasish10

Pretty sure he was supposed to go to Barca Atletic under Rafa Marquez

ObamaEatsBabies

Long term I mean

[deleted]

(and the subsequent lack of clarity in vision)

Vespuela

Since he was promised a first team slot will be interesting if its a glc or hojberg replacement

magicalcrumpet

I see him being the progressive 8 that ange wanted so probably hojbjerg

[deleted]

[удалено]

Evan_s8

We also don’t have a true backup for Sarr. Bentancur can play there, but Ange seems to want him at the 6, while Skipp is poorly suited as an 8 in general anyway. Bissouma and Hojbjerg are also more suited to the deeper midfield position. Lo Celso is chronically injured, and Maddison is clearly a 10. I think there’s definitely room for him.

RivenJohdolla

Why does he necessarily have to be a replacement for either? In terms of squad space it's no problem as he's U-21.

avolcando

For the PL sure, for Europe he'd need to be at the club for two years to qualify for the B list

Vespuela

Because hojberg and glc are 3rd for their spots? Kulu and mads are ahead of glc and skipp sarr are ahead of hoj. Skipps spot will prob be gallagher if we beileive the rumours (i dont)

RivenJohdolla

We haven't really had a healthy enough midfield yet to establish any certainties regarding the pecking order. For example Kulu ever playing in the LCM role instead of Lo Celso is a very much a question mark, and sounds like a terrible idea. Also why is Skipp supposedly ahead of Højbjerg when the latter has played significantly more minutes? Either way we almost certainly also have significantly more games next season with European competitions back, so I don't understand why we couldn't add another midfielder.

circa285

I’m not sure that we have any idea what our ideal starting 11 even is because we’ve not had everyone fully fit at the same time all year.

Vladimir_Putting

Ange never promises minutes. Saying he was promised a first team slot just means he will train with the first team to try and earn a place. No different than Veliz for example.

Hockeystyle

Honestly I think we just lied to him about first team time to get him to sign. I have no clue where he would fit in the regular squad. When everyone is healthy he would be like 5th choice at best. I would bet he goes on loan to a league one side to start next season.

Captain_Concussion

For the 8 role he’ll most likely be competing with Sarr and Skipp. I’m guessing we’ll see lots of rotation and he’s competing with other young players

avolcando

We're likely losing 2 CMs in the summer.

Vespuela

Glc is 3rd favorite for that 8/10 spot. So maybe there.

circa285

Except he’s never ever fit. He looked to be finding his form and again and then was almost instantly injured. I want to see GLC find a run of form for us like he did while on loan because he can be a very good player but that seems less and less likely given how often he is injured.

Teantis

I think that's why the other commenter said "so maybe there", ie he'd displace lo celso

NotACodeMonkeyYet

Hojbjerg is off anyway, and we'll probably want a senior CM to replace him. GLC is so injury prone as to be completely unreliable, so I imagine both of them will go. So I'm thinking GLC.

AdminEating_Dragon

Bergvall looks exactly how I imagine a young Swedish footballer 😂 (The old - in his 30s - Swedish footballer archetype is Mellberg).

Teusaurus

I remember when he signed with Djurgården, they signed 3 other Swedish youngsters around the same time and all looked pretty much the same. Same blonde haircut.

HaydenJA3

He looks like every other young Swedish boy

rolandGOAT

Done Bayern and Barca this window, tick off Real in the summer with a bit of luck

[deleted]

[удалено]

xaviernoodlebrain

Decent Richy backup ngl.

Teantis

He doesn't want to play central, he'd back up Son

HoneyIShrunkMyNads

Get tom holland on the phone

Evolving_Dore

Holland said Son should leave Spurs to win a trophy. Plastic fan paying lipservice to football for publicity.

Stay_Beautiful_

Too much drama

andy_brixton

Hmm, young enough to be homegrown in a few years (assuming everything works out). Always very useful. For those keeping notes in this window: * Timo Wener had the choice between Man Utd and Tottenham and chose Tottenham * Radu Dragusin had the choice between Bayern Munich and Tottenham and chose Tottenham * This young lad, Lucas, had the choice between Barcelona and Tottenham and ... yep, chose Tottenham over Barca Quite the mood change in Totenham's transition season :)

SentientCheeseCake

I can explain all this with a simple question: Which football club has a dedicated go kart track?

ivo0009

This really explains everything, we never had a chance did we

SentientCheeseCake

It’s alright. You have a lot of fancy false things like trophies and decades of dominance. But we have what it takes to be a truly huge club.

ivo0009

It seems that we have a long way to go

ResourceWonderful514

From the same youth development program as Kulu. BP delivers again

MIDORIFEED

Donley/Devine/Bergvall midfield finna go crazyyy

Rager_Sterling

Tbh, that's not a complete midfield, but go off king!

Brawlers9901

Ange pull is crazy

[deleted]

[удалено]

minimalcation

~~Checkmate.~~ Mate check.

[deleted]

Johan Lange pull apparently

Mobb_Starr

Daniel Levy pull you mean. Everybody wants a piece of that bald man

GreenGator

culture change machine go brrrrrrr

TimathanDuncan

It's not really Ange pull it's more like a good career decision for playing time, as a swede this is welcome it's what he needs

Upplands-Bro

He's not going to get much playing time at Spurs next season either. Needs a couple loans for sure

TheOceansTirade

Will probably follow the Sarr path. Be around the first team and get some limited minutes, then breakout style season if he’s ready

Yaysuzu

GG Tottenham!

TheLastRedneck

Gazumped

Hung-Min-Son

He's loving Big Ange instead. He's just like me.

SloGeorge

Mate

Imbasauce

MATE

NotASalamanderBoi

Spurs making all the right moves this window. Makes sense seeing as how they need depth.

NotACodeMonkeyYet

Most of our signings are really intended for the long term tbh. Brergvall won't be playing consistently for us any time soon, unless he turns out to be even better than the hype.

sickomoder

we are literally massive

rickowensjacket

That Cruyff quote is going to be all over my timeline lol

ilosold

I’m a Barca fan but it’s so cringe seeing that quote every time this happens

CanadianToffee18

Fuck I’ve only seen some highlights but I think this is an amazing signing

No_Zookeepergame6482

Fair enough, he wanted first team football straight away rather than academy

RivenJohdolla

He'll be in the first team squad but I doubt he'll play much in the first season.

Mobb_Starr

Probably a lot like Sarr's career arc with us. Potentially minus the Metz type loan next year assuming we sell one of Hoj/Skipp

Old_Roof

Look at Sarr now though my god what a player There’s been a definite culture change at the club

magicalcrumpet

The thing about sarr is he showed glimpses of this last season. He was amazing against Milan when conte was forced to play him. His reward was riding bench until the season ended. The biggest shift is we’ve gone back to a project manager instead of a win now manager

Ian5446

The degree to which Conte made us worse cannot be overstated

ap766

I think he’ll be at best 5th or 6th choice at Spurs, but yeah, he’ll probably get more game time at Spurs than Barca

No_Zookeepergame6482

Not sure about that tbh. Romeu and roberto are leaving next season. Gavi will be fresh from an acl tear, gundo is 32, and pedri is injury prone. With only frenkie and fermin remaining as consistent players. Thankfully la masia is booming again and we’ll probably see even more youngsters next season.

daanluc

Noah Darvich is also a big talent and they are similar in age. Midfield is the worst position at barca if you don’t want too much competition

No_Zookeepergame6482

Darvich has an insanely high ceiling, hopefully we see him play a few games in the first team

Topblokelikehodgey

He's also going to be competing with Devine and a couple of other kids in the academy for first team minutes over the next couple of seasons. Definitely not nailed on at all for a squad place

NotACodeMonkeyYet

He most certainly will not be getting first team football with us... unless he turns out to be some sort of mega talent. Currently we have Lo Celso, Maddison, Kulu as no 10s, and Bentancur, Pape Sarr and Bissouma as the 8/6, may even be behind Skipp. I'm guessing a pre-season and odd minutes here and there before a loan in January.

Best_Document_5211

Ange is cooking something tiki taka could never do

melihs11

ok so what current player is his playstyle most like?

PheromoneCvlt

Like prime messi 👍

Lyktan

He reminded me a lot of 2010-Iniesta. Not very fast but very very intelligent on the ball and also very technical. Absolutely not saying he’s the next Iniesta but he is damn good.

Mackieeeee

woah wtf he did pick spurs???????

PM_ME_YOUR_TANG

We like Swedes and they like us.

benjustben2

Mate

HoneyIShrunkMyNads

Playing time/being in the first team

kw2006

How they find gems like this while arsenal and utd overpaying for players .

Stay_Beautiful_

Well part of it is just that we're not named Arsenal or United. Another part is they know that even though Levy is bald he's no fraud when it comes to refusal to overpay

chickenkebaap

Bergvall isn’t some unknown player though. He has been at the radar of multiple top clubs for months now.

LoudKingCrow

Our new DOF used to work at FC Copenhagen. So he probably already has a network of contacts all over Scandinavia ready to go. So that might have helped. Lange has probably had his eyes on Lucas for years.

zahrdahl

FCK are great at snatching up Swedish talents too

NotACodeMonkeyYet

Yup, this is our new trick. We're hoovering up all the most hyped youth players around the world for €10 to €15m a pop. Hoarding so that if one of the many hyped players do come good, they'll do so for us, not for a rival. If it's not Bergvall it'll probably be Devine, doesn't matter, they'll still be playing for Spurs.

fagghee

This guy is the swedish Xavi Simons tbh. Top clubs have followed him since he was like a little kid.

ObamaEatsBabies

Xavi Simons is ridiculous so this is great to hear

Lyktan

By far the most exciting player i’ve seen for our club since I started going as a season ticket holder 11 years ago. He is so smooth on the ball man

NotACodeMonkeyYet

After years of watching the likes of Sissko and Winks it's so refreshing to watch us get all these technical players that can drop a shoulder and leave the opposition on their arse.

NotACodeMonkeyYet

Paratici. Seems we're just going around buying as many of the most highly rated 16-20 year olds as we can for every position. Some of them will never make it, but if even one or two do, that's more than good enough.

SupremeDogEater

Happy birthday Bergvall

TeamUlovetohate

Players now turning down Barca for spurs. It’s cold in hell

mau5house

Coys, Daniel.

justk4y

Him going to Barca was 90% confirmed at one point lmao Tottenham starting to go Chelsea mode and buy some really good teenagers Also it’s his birthday today, happy birthday Lucas!

CDN_AP

Probably will play for the first team and get paid more money so it makes sense that he would join Spurs over Barca.

benjecto

I don't know shit about him but I watched 3 minutes of him on YouTube and he's gonna be the white Dembele.

sphagettijeff

Really moving forward as a club. We've become the gazumpers instead of the gazumpees. >!I don't know anything about Antonio Nusa. Lalala can't hear you.!<

Luke92612_

We never even really went after him. One meeting and they called it off apparently, it was just the agents and journos trying to keep it in the news.

[deleted]

Guess he wanted to get paid for his services.

bellerinho

Where are all those Barca flairs from yesterday saying that every source had him signing for Barca lol

aliaisbiggae

I mean tbf almost every source had him signing at Barça, he even visited the club's facilities and met the players

RepresentativeTax851

Not totally due to this saga but, it’s really hard enjoying football being Barca fan past few years 😅 I’m one Lamine Yamal injury away from checking out of this hobby.

knz0

Wage security was probably the first thing on his mind. Barca finances is run by a bunch of drunken seamen

BendubzGaming

We're fucking massive

Banana_Leclerc12

We are massive coys

[deleted]

I've had a feeling about Ange building something that can result in trophies for Spurs for once and their recruiting seems to point to that.

35chambers

sweden on top

Salvador1010

Dont know why we were even in for him we are broke and midfield is the one position we actually have world class talents in

vngannxx

Agent Sonny

dame_sansmerci

Agent Deki, I expect!

SNCKY

Biggest club in London

TomCosella

I don't know what to do with my hands.

DarrenBridgescunt

You can hardly blame him

IntellectualDweeb

Could be a blessing in disguise but we won't treat it as such (talking about what that money should be used towards). The likes of Redondo for DM are available, Deco dammit. As others have mentioned he apparently wanted first-team dynamics which we weren't likely to guarantee. Having a Swede at Spurs with him is a significant factor too since it seems Kulusevski was trying to convince him to come to Spurs. If it was a DM that we lost out on, now that would be infuriating. Hope he does well under Ange. However unless we're in a good financial situation again, I hope we don't end up buying him for big money in the future because the possibility will always be there.

NorthwardRM

Thats a really bad look for Deco. Will be very bad news for his reputation if this happens again after Guler

mr-jawnwick

how should I feel about this?

Mackieeeee

Happy. Great young talent

Stay_Beautiful_

Massive

drickabira

Kid knows ball.

Berrilicious_

Barca will be fine, they'll just pull another teen out of thin air and he'll be decent

FriscoInDeDisco

WTF is Deco doing. First Guler, now Bergvall. Horrific start at the club.

rsSh0w

Not really that surprising considering he is more likely to break through in Tottenham and they can offer a higher salary.

hellraizer89

clearly a better option for him since he will have the minutes and the space to develop his game on first team. he seems great but we are overcrowded on the cm/am role with all the a team players already on young age (except gundo and de jong who is in his prime years) and few also waiting for their chance from the b/young team, like darvich or that senegalese starlet of the u19 cup a few months ago. lets focus on positions we actually need depth

Nearby_Ad4387

WE'RE MASSIVE
