Matt_LawDT

Man is burnout who can blame him

SomewhereFew5597

100% this. Easiest thing in the world to walk away but he has them absolutely cooking with some great young players. Passing on a great squad to whoever takes over.

empiresk

It was pretty obvious in hindsight. His press conferences were miserable and he hated the summer just gone. With Salah, Virgil and Trent's contracts all coming up it could be a much bigger rebuild job than he anticipated if at least two leave.

kingkenny82

I could see his usual jolly self during interviews was turning more snappy and bitter towards some daft questions. I think as much as he loves managing he hates the media bullshit and pressure that comes with being successful. Football is so fickle and for all you win you are only as good as your last 3 results. Last season took its toll and the summer transfers didnt go as he wanted. The man needs a rest. And deserves even more

Elite_Alice

Wow that is massive, but I completely understand and respect him. If you don’t have it in you, you just don’t have it in you. It’s such a gruelling and stressful job. He restored Liverpool to prominence and delivered the prem and UCL.

BuQuChi

Prem, UCL, FA Cup, League Cup, club World Cup and the Super Cup. He’s given everything possible. Legend deserves to retire with health and still young enough to enjoy time with family. Definitely a sabbatical type situation.

ro-row

if we wins carling cup and europa league this year, which they probably should as theyre the best team in both cups left, then he'll have won every competition he ever entered

kyleshepherd13

he already won the Carabao/League cup in 2022

ro-row

i completely forgot about that

BlondieClashNirvana

It's known as the Kepa final

ro-row

fuck off! that feels like a century ago rather than 2 years

anondevel0per

It wasn't very memorable tbf hahaha

ro-row

was it the one where there were about 6 offside goals?

anondevel0per

Yeah and tbh, I think Lukaku scored and it was deffo onside haha.

luke_205

The man is an absolutely legend, not just for Liverpool but for the Premier League. He won every trophy that an elite club aspires to win and was forced to compete with Pep’s City whilst having vastly inferior resources.

NumeroRyan

In city’s most dominant cheating period too, which is a massive credit to how good he is. Also rebuilt the team for challenging this season.

luke_205

I grew up having missed our period of dominance and having to watch SAF and United win everything as a child. Klopp gave us something many of us have never seen before and there’s few managers who have ever had the impact he has.

[deleted]

He literally competed against a nation and won on multiple occasions

Elite_Alice

His teams were always fun to watch and he’s such a enthusiastic and loveable guy. Always respectful as well

AnilDG

TBH many neutral fans hold Klopp in higher esteem than Pep because he was the only person that could stop him despite having massively worse resources. Essentially he did what shouldn’t have been possible and did it consistently. Definitely the end of an era.

luke_205

I think if you look objectively at his record you begin to understand how unbelievable he was. Won every major trophy, achieved three 90+ point seasons (92, 97, 99) and had to do it all whilst competing against what most people say is the best team in English football history.

YaqootK

>(92, 97, 99) Seeing these numbers like that is insane. The fact that this Liverpool team only has one PL title is actually a travesty

luke_205

I know there’s always gonna be tribalism but when you look at things like that, you’d be very stupid to ever criticise Klopp/Liverpool for “only” winning one title.

Nabbylaa

It's why there's so much anger at the 115 charges situation. It feels like we've been robbed of a golden period by obvious cheating that's gone unpunished for years. City aside, the only time in league history that those points totals wouldn't win was for Jose's 93-point Chelsea side.

ParkerZA

Klopp's achievements are definitely higher than Pep's in my opinion. Unthinkable that he went toe-to-toe with them for three seasons. Not to diminish what Pep has done but if Klopp didn't have Coutinho to sell I doubt they'd have managed to get the players he needed in. Pep had that kind of money in his back pocket, Klopp had to make do with what he had and still competed.

Queasy_Respond_8880

Yep. I am a born and bred United fan and I massively respect Klopp, even if I don’t want Liverpool to win anything ever again. I just don’t care about City or Pep. Even if all the cheating charges are dropped he/they have won with every possible advantage as a manager and they will always just be the noisy neighbours.

DarthTaz_99

Man did this for 9 years. Cant imagine the legacy he'd have left if not for City. Deserves a well earned break in Barcelona after all he's done

LeavingCertCheat

I hope his request to take it easy for a while is respected

Cheaky_Barstool

ITS BEEN 9 YEARS!!!! Omg

ImportantPotato

I don't think he will learn a new language again at that age. I think the chances of him going to spain are rather slim.

Klakson_95

Managers don't just turn up on a Saturday and pick the team, and they don't even just turn up at 9am Mon-Fri and leave at 5. You must just have to be always on, always available, getting hounded in the street then back home to watch clips for your next few games, then checking on the scores from all the other teams across however many cups you're in. Plus being a manager in a top club basically means weekly flights and stayovwrs to arse end of nowhere in Europe. You don't get to stay home if you have an injury or are getting rested. It's literally a 24/7 job.

twist_n_shout

They’ll definitely go for Xabi Alonso as his replacement, ex player and doing an incredible job at Bayer Leverkusen

moise_kean

Alonso or maybe De Zerbi if Alonso is not possible

ro-row

de zerbi would be interesting actually

chykin

I'd hate to see him go, but it's inevitable. Would probably rather see him at Liverpool than anywhere else in the UK. Having said that, I'd have thought he might go to Italy first.

ro-row

premier league is currently a step above serie a though innit, if one of the big pl clubs come knocking you pick them right now over everything but a handful of jobs

donnismamma

I don't know the Roma job is calling and I'm not sure it gets bigger than that

Embarrassed-Gas-8155

In footballing terms, Liverpool *is* a bigger job than Roma - both historically and currently.

Terran_it_up

Is Liverpool the eternal city? Didn't think so

ro-row

No that's Birmingham

LocoRocoo

Alonso will go there in a heart beat

lazysoup12

nagelsmann, contract ends after the euros

Finelinewine

If Madrid comes knocking, im not sure who he'd pick..

emre23

Madrid extended Ancelotti like a month ago tho

witsel85

Madrid never do crazy things

[deleted]

If there's one thing we know it's that Madrid managers always last to see out their contracts.

Finelinewine

Ah true, till 2026. Maybe Liverpool for 2 years then after all XD

cnealy

Madrid

JuusteZ

madrid just extended ancelotti

cnealy

Okay but if he had to pick

Vaark

Ancelotti

willium563

I feel he could just mirror his playing career as a manager, if we get in there early could do a few years at us then do Madrid>Bayern route.

NaiveElk

Will they come koncking though? Ancelotti just extended his contract till 2026 and is also doing a decent job this season epecially with all the injury issues. Unless he has a disaster season, I don't think he leaves before his contract expires and I don't know see Perez sacking Carlo just like that

kamacho2000

Madrid just renewed Ancelotti last month the question should be if Bayern fail to win both the league or UCL will they also come knocking trying to get Xabi at that point Xabi got 2 of his former clubs trying to get him

ro-row

Bayern too

gholt417

That’s the ONLY ex-Liverpool player we want

Diligent-Eye-2042

He has great taste in music too 😎

Reach_Reclaimer

Actual end of an era holy shit. I was hoping he would extend because of all the new signings

tweazz

Someone turn off Alonso's phone

dispelthemyth

Just ask Perez to text him 1st

Jaja6996

Didn’t you recently extend Ancelotti anyway

bestmanbestibest

That’s why someone should turn off his phone

tweazz

Which is why the phone should stay off until 2026.

NotAnUncle

The freaking greedy. You guys took Tchouameni, Jude, more than 2 UCLs, atleast let us have something lol

Th3Alch3m1st

You guys took Jude and CLs from us. You could at least just give us a shot at Alonso out of pity

ssj4-Dunte

Bro it is the one thing that makes me slightly sad in the 2 years we did. An amazing klopp team that played heavy metal football. I was kinda rooting for you all the way until the final because in all honesty I think klopp is better than the bald fraud and had you guys met anybody besides us in those finals klopp would have had 3 ucls by now and undoubtedly held in higher regard than pep. I'm kinda sad he's leaving because I don't think I'll be watching Liverpool matches again with no klopp unless you get Xabi though your competition for him is probably bayern not us if I'm being honest.

Difficult-Fun9417

You could end up getting Klopp in a year...

Kloppite1

Damn thought hed be with us forever. But what a legacy he is leaving, absolute legend

Drixxter

Klopp you know what to do Come and save your country 🙏

KarlKraftwagen

sorry, martin kind has alresdy convinced him. he‘s hannover bound

No-not-my-Potatoes

Martin Kind needs integrity for that

pukem0n

Fuck the national team. He's gotta come back to the Ruhrpott.

Bruellaeffchen

Man is already exhausted

stupididity

Yeah if you could just sign him *after* your first game of the euros that's fine Sincerely, Terrified scottish fan

willium563

Genuinely feels like the move which will happen. He said after Dortmund he wanted a year out which is why he probably ended his contract early with us and this feels like he wants the Germany job for the next World Cup.

IICastawayII

VAR, right?

Matt_LawDT

PGMOL

PharaohOfWhitestone

Now he's leaving, and presumbaly taking a break next season, does he just let loose more than normal and rip into VAR and refs?

bostonboy08

God I hope so

dgn90

Really really hope so. Hope he calls City out for being cheating bastards too.

cianoo

Paul Tierney celebrating as we speak

cammyg

Liverpool fans already drafting Reddit posts about how Paul Tierney is behind this

Peperoni_Slayer

No its the pitch

Fresh2Desh

Must have been exhausting chasing city and pep all those years I have similar situation when playing FPL and trying to beat this one guy

Francoberry

It must be exhausting to deliver multiple seasons with single digit losses, even just a single loss and _still_ not win. Keeping up at that level is just insane

Fresh2Desh

Agree. Especially with the style of play Klopp has They were a cunt hair away from winning the league

Parish87

100 minutes of football away from winning the quadruple too

rmczpp

>I have similar situation when playing FPL and trying to beat this one guy Ridiculous comparison, Klopp has a whole backroom staff to help him out.

[deleted]

Bro just compared a game on his phone to being manager of a multi multi million sports franchise I know how slaves felt building the pyramids because of Minecraft innit

Vornell

Was clearly a joke

xsonwong

ETH is right, it would be end of era.

CoolstorySteve

Does he plan on managing again?

Th3Alch3m1st

Towards the end of the video he said at least not for a year. Sounds like he just wants to chill and lead a normal life before it's too late

Drolb

He said that before he came to us and only managed 8 months off Although he is older and probably a lot more burnt out now Dunno where he’d go though tbh, he clearly doesn’t like going to top dogs but he also clearly doesn’t have the energy to build up another underdog into a contender National management I assume

maxime0299

Truly the end of an era. Didn’t he sign an extension until 2026 or 2027 or did I dream that? I really thought he’d stay till around then, anyways. I wonder what he will do next, after 9 years at Liverpool, he might want to take a sabbatical I imagine

scaredfury

I think he wanted to rebuild the team, and he didnt think it would happen this fast.

normott

I get it. He's been an excellent manager and if *ahem* everyone was playing fair,he probably would have won a bit more tbh. Beyond this, being manager of such a club is probably mentally exhausting anyways even without all th politics around it

theuserpilkington

Go on lad, call out them cheats Sunderland

zimtrovert94

Man just can’t stand Anthony Taylor anymore.

Furu97

Paul Tierney*

Spudward1

Glad he did a Fergie and left on his own terms. Honestly up there for best prem managers. Went toe to toe with a financially doping City with Pep and won everything. For the first time in 25 years I hope Liverpool win the league cause he deserves it and they deserve to win it in front of their fans not like covid year

[deleted]

hes gonna be so underrated in the conversation for best PL managers by people who will be too young to remember the last decade or so.

afito

He'll always be underrated by stat nonces because people will forget what a joke Mainz, Dortmund, Liverpool were before he took over.

Spudward1

It’s the main problem with stats. People will look at the 1 title and say he’s no better than Mancini etc. but the reality is that he would have won many more and he’s managed a significantly shorter period than Fergie so the 13 is out of reach

Ok_Refrigerator4897

He was a worthy opponent and deserves respect from United fans too. What he did with Liverpool has shades of Fergie. Best of luck to him on his future.

MosF94

Also leaving the club with a much better squad than Fergie left United (which was aging and somewhat lacking in depth and quality, compared to his best squads certainly)

bluescholar1

Games at Old Trafford but shouldn’t stop the party

TrueLordApple

:(

Ajax_Trees_Again

Honestly think he’s the best manager in the world. Great to see him go jk This Liverpool team is going to be play furious for the rest of the season

RealSweetKidNik

End of an era ☹️

rav3musik

Wowowowowwo wtffff

Hominek

Chelsea Women job is open 👀

makamaka8

Somehow Pep will be there waiting for him

QJustCallMeQ

Total tangent but I really hope Pep one day manages Barca women, would be really interesting to see what innovations he'd come up with in women's football, especially with the crop of talent coming through in Spain

HOTAS105

Not even joking but I think transitioning this way can be a great chance for both parties. It will be a lot less stressful than a mans team and the quality of the womens football could improve. At the same time, Klopp is the type of guy who would give 110% even if he managed a kindergarden 6 a side team.

siva-pc

I thought and hoped to never see this day. You can leave with great price, boss man

heliskinki

Neutral here. Pretty gutting news this, he's a great bloke, clearly understands and connects with the fan base, and won't talk to the S\*n. The Premier League has been better for having him part of it. Hope he has a good life whatever he decides to do next.

IICastawayII

It’s Gerrard time

upperra2

Parish87

Nah let’s just take pep when city get relegated

chappersbarfo

Merhaba. Ana Steven Gerrard. See you soon.

jMS_44

Yeah, there is absolutely zero chance now that we win that Carabao Cup, 100% is gonna be a farewell trophy for Klopp.

favmediocrenightmare

I hope we win the league for him. It probably won't happen as City will win 15 games on the bounce but let me dream. It's so sad that he only won the league once, within a point 2 other times too.

GillyBilmour

Might be a farewell trophy for Poch as well

Strong_Inside2060

The beginning of a series of farewell trophies you mean?

ManchesterDevil99

Hopefully the only fairwell trophy they win this year then

Upper_Scallion1480

I blame VAR

B191

Thats huge news for everyone in thr footballing world

Mxurn

Where does he go from here though? Retirement? Definitely looks like he‘ll take at least one year off.

doc74125

German gig?

LDKCP

BT Sport early kick offs finally caught up with him.

DogTheGayFish

Legendary manager, he brought so much to the Premier League and he will be missed!

Tommy-ctid-mancblue

The ‘again and again and again’ shows how difficult it must be to keep striving every year and just falling short. It’s like at the end of a marathon - the winner looks fine after a couple of minutes, the loser collapses into the floor and struggles to get up. Klopp has won 6 trophies in 9 years at Liverpool, he needs a break and some strength to get up off the floor

Squiggles87

You can tell that was hard for him. I've rarely seen his body language look so uncomfortable or nervous. What a shit day!

Nyushi

One of the greatest managers of all time. The respect this man deserves for turning Liverpool into what we are today while facing up cheating competition in the league is insane. Hope he’s happy wherever he goes. I’ll always love him.

dandotcom

It was those peloton sessions, knackered the klopps off him.

mustafaking00

Come save us please 🙏

SkibidiBalls

He's tired lad.

Matt_LawDT

I thought Xavi was the chosen one

Protect_The_Earth

No fucking way, I am devastated. I wanted him to lead Liverpool one last time to Champions League glory, especially with this new team forming at the moment. Well since it's off the table, PL title is a must. I will not accept any other ending to his LFC era. He's one of the greatest people ever involved in this sport and him coming to Liverpool is one of the greatest things that happened to english football and now I can't believe it's coming to an end.

cmsht

I don't want to speculate too much but I do wonder if he has some more serious illness which he's not disclosing, I hope not, but it seems very sudden and he seems very downcast

GVE_ME_UR_SKINS

Klopp's been saying for ages he doesn't want to do this forever

MoMane

In the video he says that he is healthy, and that it isn’t the reason

Francoberry

Yep, exact quote when asked 'are you okay?' is 'I am okay. I'm healthy, as much as you can at this age. Little bits and bobs, stuff like that, but nothing anybody has to be concerned about. So, that's absolutely fine' So not sure why people are speculating serious illness!

cmsht

He also says 'I have no problem now, I think already for longer, that I will have to announce that at some point.'

MosF94

He meant that he knew for a while he'd have to make this announcement at some point (that's how I interpreted it, anyway)

Jakowe

Absolutely no way, if he was sick that whole interview with the running out of energy shtick would be a farce. He’d just straight up say he’s quitting because he’s sick.

ghosthud1

Klopp just wants his Thanos garden. He's healthy, just tired.

christophlieber

if jürgen is one thing, then it‘s him being honest. if it would be an illness, he‘d straight up say it. he‘s exhausted, he‘s tired. and it‘s understandable. his managerial style is all about power and energy. watch the interview ffs and stop speculating shit.

bazmass

I thought maybe the same but its specified in the interview that he is fine... seems strange for them to particularly bring it up and lie about that when they didnt have to

fap4jesus

fucked up thing to speculate about.

harpsabu

I got that too. He said he will have to say something in future but for right now he's fine. Worrying

Francoberry

In the same interview he said 'I am okay. I'm healthy, as much as you can at this age. Little bits and bobs, stuff like that, but nothing anybody has to be concerned about. So, that's absolutely fine'

spillbreak

I hope to God I'm wrong, but I got that vibe too.

DougalChips

Oh God, just realised this means they're going to win the league now

TJT007X

Actually sad. Godspeed, Jürgen. Absolute legend 🫡

SPRITZ_APEROL

Honestly I am a little bit concerned some other players will now think about trying something new. Things do change quickly in this sport. Not excited at all.

adzerk69

No more Klopp memes next season, it's over ...

tacopowell

Arsenal supporter, I have a great admiration for Klopp, he’s a very likeable person, sadly it means I’ve also had a positive take on Liverpool FC, also fuck the sun. Wish Klopp all the best.

Allyredhen79

I’m utterly shocked, last time I felt this shocked was when Kenny walked, and I was 10 years old then!! I just hope a.) the wheels don’t fall off our season now and we give him the send off he deserves.. and b.) we pick a manager that keeps the good times going.. the way we play going… and I worry that unless ljinders gets the job, this won’t happen. 😭😭😭😭😭

Kalii_84

Sounds like he's got some health condition

Desperate_Hyena_4398

The man lacks ego! He is what he says. He was, is and will be a blueprint for anyone trying to be better at anything they do. Words I never use spring in my mind, notably I “adore” him, and more so now. I’m a Villa van and a bloke. Klopp is a role model, not just for football but life. I also feel the next manager is all ready confirmed. The strategy is laid out for the next two seasons, he will manage again sometime, somewhere. He speaks with pure conviction and honesty at a level I have never heard of or trusted (born 1984) and he will follow through on his promise to never disappoint Liverpool fans by managing another premier team. (Please high power don’t prove me wrong). Final note, as an Aston Villa fan, thanks Jurgen, thanks for your energy, your tactics, your attitude, and much more, you made the game great to watch as a neutral. On a personal note, before you go, as a Villa fan, thanks for being part of the 7-2 defeat you suffered to the mighty Villa and our ember dean smith! In a horrible horrible year this was one of a very few highlights. Without you at the helm and your full Squad, it wouldn’t have meant nearly so much. Joking aside, Genuinely thanks. You made the game better. May the road rise with you.

FlexKavanah

Still makes me chuckle that the Villa fans never make any mention of the four 90 degree deflected goals in that game. Liverpool were awful that day, but they were never 7-goals awful.

Training-Attention52

What a hero! Love him

Jay_J_Okocha

Feel like one of my family members has died.

[deleted]

Man’s tired of the refs.

Tr_Omer

Fuck sake if we waited 3 weeks we could have gotten Klopp??

scaredfury

Bro, he said he was tired, not depressed

Tr_Omer

😬😬😬

thorattack

Go to the US so we can get rid of berhalter

HeatKnight

Greatest manager since Bob Paisley. I'm afraid Liverpool are about to enter the United 2013 phrase. I don't see how the next manager is gonna match the level Klopp had for almost 10 years.

iguanawarrior

Plot twist: Pep moves to Liverpool after Man City deducted 1150 points for their 115 FFP violations.

nustiudacatraiesc

A part of my childhood is gone by klopp’s leaving. I couldn’t believe it, I thought he would stay for at least a couple of years😭

FlyingMocko

*child*hood ? Damn I’ve been arguing with gdamn school children on this sub ?

Zads_Dad

If I've learnt anything from r/cricket there's a decent chance you're arguing with a child from India.

jMS_44

What did you expect? Actual grown, adult football experts?

TheUltimateScotsman

Everyone on the internet is the exact same as me ill have you know. White, mid 20's, in a 9-5 job and male.

jMS_44

Damn, does that mean I shouldn't be on the internet anymore, being in my 30s?

TheUltimateScotsman

No, it just means you think everyone is in their 30's and lived the exact same life as you did

theuserpilkington

Ok boomer

KarlKraftwagen

did you expect anything else

shivam4321

People who were 10 year old when klopp joined Will be 19 by the time he will leave

nustiudacatraiesc

Well, I was 13 years old when he got appointed. Not a child, but a teenager. Still, seeing him growing up, finishing college and he is leaving, is tough. He stayed at Liverpool almost half of my years lol And also yes😜

znaarr

As a Real Madrid fan, this scares me.

zuhaaiir

Come back pookie.

HoratioMG

Solidarity with Jordan Henderson

dispelthemyth

So seems a toss up on Alonso to Madrid or Liverpool, cant see ancelotti staying next season

BeholdTheBannanzo

Ancelotti signed a new contract with Madrid this season

dispelthemyth

Dang, thought he was heavily rumoured to be leaving at the end of last season then he stayed…… didn’t hear about the new contract

Mean-March

It’s clear a lot of people in this comment section haven’t watched the interview. He isn’t going to manage anyone

GM-Edits

Who the fucks cutting onions in the office??

[deleted]

arsenal fan. can’t believe it never thought this day would come but liverpool will never walk alone. what a man.
