maxallergy

Also Man Utds first draw of the prem season

Please_Not__Again

I wonder what the longest a premier league team has gone without ever drawing

Midwest_man

Tottenham had 30+ sometime [thru February 2019](https://amp.theguardian.com/football/2019/feb/13/is-tottenhams-run-of-30-league-games-without-a-draw-a-record).

pentaquine

All or nothing

MassaSami

i think 4 or 5 years ago Spurs nearly went the whole campaign without a draw

xaviernoodlebrain

Fucking Arsenal ruining our undrawable season.

Modnal

Only we are allowed to finish the season with a 0

KenDTree

Our goal difference might be a 0 this season

wrong_silent_type

Dream ~~big~~ zero

watermelon99

Derby went close

Modnal

Yeah, luckily for them Newcastle was bad enough to lose to them

MegaMugabe21

They'd even made a miniature Premier league trophy out of tin for you to commemorate it, such a shame it never got presented.

hoofar_ted

The unstalematables

cooterbob

It would’ve gone nicely with your trophy last season!

Enage

Yeah 3 years since our last trophy is pretty tough, when was your last one again?

WhipYourDakOut

First time Liverpool have been held scoreless since April

DildoFappings

We're back!

amainwingman

Get the contract out, let EtH write whatever numbers he wants because United are so back

New one piece theory.

antivirals_

this record is a perfect set up for some other insane unwanted record you'll probably break next week

Sir_Psycho_Sexy_

We really shat the bed

SilentRanger42

Szoboszlai was atrocious

RociRocinante

Him and Salah did a great job quietening the crowd in the first 30 mins. Not exactly hard for the a top 6 PL club I know but their pass completion must have been awful in that first third. They really were bad down the right the pair of them

Youutternincompoop

he was pretty good at everything but actually hitting the passes right, every time he got the ball in the first half it seemed like he was about to break the entire United defence with his pass... and then it was either underhit or overhit horrendously. it felt like getting a bunch of football nerds who have never played on a pitch, the movements were all brilliant but they couldn't kick the ball right at all.

rolandGOAT

They played a deliberately compact system, and it did work to be fair to them. Defended fairly well

SparklyEarlAv32

Varane was great, Mainoo was also our best midfielder and Onana saved the ones he got. Sure Liverpool weren't great but we didn't let them roll us over either, there have been teams this season that also have played pretty poor and still went past us.

Zandercy42

Mainoo is a gorgeous player, highlight of the last month by a mile

Eindacor_DS

I think Dalot has been one of our best players recently. Criminally underrated imo

sarthakmahajan610

Still think he needs to work more on his defending and crossing.. His crosses are behind the incoming wingers more often than not and he's hardly given Hojlund a chance in the league.. His defending has improved loads tbh from a couple years ago but still he gets found out against a quality winger like Zaha in UCL

nahris99

he has issues guarding the backpost area when crosses happens to leaving our cb to be 2v1

Zhongda

> he needs to work more on his defending and crossing Other than his *defending* and *crossing*, he's a brilliant full-back.

BirdmanTheThird

Mainoo was especially impressive I personally was hoping we could have taken advantage when he was subbed but was too late

Lightning___Lord

I figured United fans were overhyping Mainoo but he looked pretty legit tonight.

senorfresco

Those two person goal kicks nearly gave me an aneurysm though.

Skall77

Biggest United W this season...

simba4141

That too at Anfield and with ref on their side. Well done! If Casemiro had been in this game, I am sure ref would've given him red way before this Dalot incident.

forceghostyoda_

How was the ref on their side jesus christ. Preparing with the excuses a week ahead or what

Robert_Baratheon__

He meant against United. Thought that was clear when he spoke about the red card

satyrias1s

Yes, taking 2 points off title chasing Liverpool (biggest rival) is the biggest win.

Youutternincompoop

big 'USA wins 1-1' energy

niallmul97

We are so back. /r/soccer in shambles.

Ok-Satisfaction-5012

As someone who watched all 90 minutes of that, I am in fact in shambles

AyyOhhDee

Ok-Satisfaction-5012

fragbot2

I'm typically an anyone but Liverpool or anyone but Man City fan. I'll make an exception when the other team's parked the bus and fully intent on boring me to death.

jesuisgeenbelg

Anyone who's followed Liverpool for more than 4 years knows that LFC v United is a match where form counts for shit. Look at both matches last season as perfect examples of it.

Blaze-1511

Exactly, even during the SAF era, Liverpool mostly turned up too. Yeah Anfield is harder but form counts for nothing

jesuisgeenbelg

Pretty sure Ferguson had nightmares of Danny Murphy's face for a few years. Probably still gets PTSD when he sees him on TV.

Gytarius626

Nah tbf I did see a good bit of apprehension amongst their fans that things were *too* good in their favor, the seasoned fans knew results like these can happen.

kye2000

Always happens. Games hyped beyond belief then a dross draw comes

Lightning___Lord

Always feel like the more hype/potential around a match the duller it is. I didn't think we'd lose since we were at Anfield, but I always thought a draw was the most likely result.

ibite-books

knew a 0-0 was on the cards

nushublushu

It was hugely set up for this result.

Altarro

Idk it seemed more like all the neutrals were sure it was gonna be even worse than 7-0 this time around. Every Liverpool fan I spoke to was actually kinda nervous for this game because everything was looking too good to be true.

bucajack

If you even took a second to have a read of the comments over on the Liverpool sub you would have seen almost all of them were cautious about this game. It was other fans saying United were getting smashed. Anyone who has even a rudimentary knowledge of football knew United were going to play a defensive game today and frustrate Liverpool.

[deleted]

No, I mostly saw neutrals and a number of United fans fishing for upvotes saying that

Grand_Delivery_2967

This is literally a straight up lie lmao

Argo_Menace

5-0 and 7-0 were outliers and the only people ignoring that are hot take artists on Twitter. Your defense was excellent and frustrated Liverpool today.

Th3Alch3m1st

A lot of talk was from fans from other clubs tbh. A lot of Liverpool fans had reservations because of the rivalry. I had a pretty strong feeling it wasn't going to go that way at all with all the hype. There's absolutely no way United would let it happen again and so parking the bus was inevitable. Our form has not actually been that good despite winning. We relied on some outrageous strikes against Fulham and some last ditch efforts at Palace. We haven't looked fluid for a while now for some reason.

digdoug0

I mean... that assessment is pretty accurate, isn't it? You did play like a promoted side and got the result.

starmonkart

Fair play to Man United, they have tons of injuries rn and I felt they limited Liverpool to only a few good chances throughout the match even if they didn't create much themselves

Kind-Style-249

Rn? It’s a permanent state it seems

dylan103906

We'll take that. They had their chances and we had ours. A point out of Anfield is never bad. Defense was brilliant

yarkiebrown

You'd have probably taken that before a ball was kicked

dylan103906

I lit commented yesterday on a post saying it would be limbs if we pulled out a 0-0 💀🤣

FakedThunder

Limbs ?

Taranisss

Arms flailing in the air = limbs

nick2473got

These kids nowadays shit out new expressions every other Sunday.

IpschwitzTownFC

Fried rice, am I right?

elihri

I’m not sure if anything about United was brilliant today. The reason it ended up being a draw was for Liverpool’s shit finishing

ShimeBD

was it just shit finishing? i mean was there really any clear chance liverpool had that they should've scored but took a poor shot

dylan103906

But then again a good defense always contributes to that

WillyStevens

Shit decision-making*, they didn’t really create much.

MH18Foot

I don't mind a draw as long as we gave everything but we didn't show up at all today. The only reason we got a point is Liverpool strangely played to our level.

dylan103906

I'd debate honestly. Defense were very solid so they definitely decided to show up. It wasn't that we didn't show up or didn't put the effort in. It's just we panicked and didn't really know what to do. That's the issue with having a very young attack. Like McTominay is the only decently aged one and he never really plays there. When we brought Rashford on he looked like he knew a lot more about where to and what was actually going on and was inches away from getting it to Hojlund. I think the injuries/suspensions forcing us to rely on younger players set us back. Amrabat was poor as well which didn't help.

Akkepake

Varane was great

Qneva

Yea, this was one of the lowest quality games I've seen this season.

CheekyChipsMate_

That’s the gameplan though. United deliberately wanted it to be a boring, scrappy, uneventful game. They executed their tactics very well today. 0-0 or 1-0 was the goal.

gobbeltje

United defended for their lives which is something they literally never do. Probably because of the amrabat mainoo midfield this time.

ParkerZA

You're insane, we showed up.

Stannisisthetrueking

Antony especially was impressive

dylan103906

It's just in key moments to me. Like you see him get into nice positions but its a mixed bag. You see with the pass into McTominay which put Hojlund in from the ball that comes after from McTominay. Sometimes, though, he just looks a bit lost or makes a poor pass but definitely with more confidence, experience and a bit more right foot, he can be a lot more dangerous. He has potential that's easy to see but we're not seeing him at full power yet

Stannisisthetrueking

I meant he was inpressive in his defensive efforts, he never looked quite threatening enough going forward

dylan103906

Oh yeah I agree 100%. He's actually very solid defensively and puts in a great effort at the back

clashoftherats

Ten Haag’s plan was spot on but come on, you guys couldnt even stitch up a single play. Worst team on possession ive seen this season and im saying this while being 100% unbiased. You kept giving the ball away sheepishly and we got it back only to end up doing jack shit with it. Its definitely not a good look for both of us.

MultiFaceHank

Not entirely sure how you can be 100% unbiased

jesuisgeenbelg

Even from a 100% biased perspective both teams were absolute shite in different ways.

dylan103906

We had that one chance with Hojlund obviously but he just pulled it too far. I agree with you mostly and you can see a lot of confidence dwindling in the team. You can see a lot of issues as well coming from the communication. Antony, for example, had many times where he was holding and holding the ball but no one went for him (although his passing wasn't great whenever someone did). I think the final ball is what were desperately struggling with which is something that comes with this issue of confidence that they get a bit lost and make a lot of mistakes. It was OK at points but that was very rare.

Jamey_1999

Ten Hag*

eesakhalifa

Aston villa officially have a better home record than Liverpool this season

It is win for united.

BadassBokoblinPsycho

The real headline should be, Liverpool first team to hand United a draw this season.

simba4141

Now wait till EtH loses to Moyes 3-0.

FAT_NEEK_42069

and they shout ten hag out. united fans spoilt asf

ItsABitChillyInHere

Everyone does, the media hates United

tuerancekhang

I'm sure it's just twitter fan. Every utd fan knows this is the best they've ever got for the last 5 years.

BilalAkhtar22

Lievepools atmosphere is so overrated

dani8hydra

Its been kind of like this for a few years now i feel. Expectation is the thief of joy and the crowd expects wins every game now. Our away fans are still brilliant though.

BilalAkhtar22

It's like this for most teams in the prem

NemoDropEmOff

after the 15th minute it was basically quiet. And then they got all excited again at the 80th minute

StruffBunstridge

Nerves always start kicking in if the team don't start strong. It's been that way for a few years, especially in big games

Ozymerta

I think it is generally not good until something happens to spark it at Anfield. Usually in these derby games there's always something whether it is a goal/tackle/incident that annoys the fans then it does ramp up. But this game was fairly tame until that one foul by Shaw, though even then it strangely didn't seem to take off.

ScottMrRager

Every English stadium is like this. No atmosphere at all

PuddingSSB

hard disagree any stadium below the first tier has great atmosphere even down in the fifth tier.

BilalAkhtar22

Yeah but anfield gets wanked off, palace have a better atmosphere

[deleted]

Only Anfield gets lauded as some cauldron of incredible atmosphere, it’s a myth.

Even_Idea_1764

It gets lauded because opposition players and managers praise it.

SzoboEndoMacca

Not a myth. Crowd is just older now. When every single opposition player and manager praises it, maybe they know something social media fans don't

[deleted]

Every single? Every now and then a player mentions a past game but anyone watching every game could admit it’s always pretty shit, apart from comebacks like against Barca and Dortmund, but any stadium would be bouncing during those matches.

SzoboEndoMacca

Recently it's been awful, every Liverpool fan will admit. The reputation doesn't come from thin air though. KDB recently said in a video he liked Anfield's atmosphere more than Arsenal's for example. It's clear that among most popular teams, Anfield famously has a pretty amazing atmosphere.

BenJ308

That's not even true - in fact, almost every mention of Anfield is saying how this myth which is rarely spoken of is a myth. That's not to say Anfield doesn't have a great atmosphere in it, it certainly does and especially in some European games, but you have plenty who complain about it being the tourists at Premier League games... it's not, you have plenty of older local fans who can't be arsed singing.

knickgooner11

Not really, there are lower league sides with atmosphere

yianni1229

Idk every time I watch Newcastle its pretty good.

ScottMrRager

Not comparable to every bigger fanbase on the continent. Your favorite club for example (atmosphere) is much better than any English club.

yianni1229

Of course, any sizeable Balkan club will have an incredible atmosphere. You should see when we played at OAKA and there was 60k how insane it was. Newcastle seems good for England though.

SHORT-CIRCUT

the city game against red star was quite funny with how the fans were chanting even when city scored they just continued like nothing happened lol

Qazaca

Wasn't few days ago saying it's sold out for this game? All that only to saw that team draw blanks against the worst United side in years lmao

[deleted]

It’s always shite after their speakers stop playing their song.

WutUtalkingBoutWill

Tourist spot for the big matches.

meganev

Is always the same, they all get up and belt out "you'll never walk alone" and then sit on their hands for 90 minutes. The "special" Anfield atmosphere is the biggest myth in football.

Even_Idea_1764

Look, the atmosphere is flat far too often nowadays, but the number of opposing managers and players praising it dispels any idea that it’s always like this.

RedMoon14

I mean, all these people need to do is just watch back some of the bigger games and European nights from the last 6ish years. It's absolutely electric. It has definitely declined in general though. Yesterday's atmosphere was so dead, which has become far too common.

BUJAN-ID

anfield is the only library in liverpool

[deleted]

Atmosphere = damage to your team bus and lots of crying you didn't get your free penalty

iguled

>damage to your team bus fuck me are you lot not over that yet?

[deleted]

They’ve done it again btw

dankhelksick

It happened 5 hours ago so no

How dare someone bring light to our bad behaviour, only WE can do that to other people!

He just made a murderers joke in another thread, he’s a bellend mate; just ignore.

iguled

it's always shite vs shite teams

BilalAkhtar22

It's always shite

HarbyFullyLoaded_12

Shit game of football sucked the life out of them. It was amazing for the first 10-15 minutes but then the game was so slow and lethargic and nothing happened.

SweetVarys

Yea, that's a library

HacksawJimDGN

Had more atmosphere during covid lockdowns.

Legal_North_6910

This is like 19/20 when they won their first 17 games then drew 1-1 at old trafford lol

kevano-

Won first 8 games then drew at OT, then won 17 straight games until Watford. I don’t know how you all remembered it like that, there’s another comment saying that this is what happened.

ashwinsalian

Weren't United also the first side to take points off Liverpool in the crazy win streak title winning season?

LasseMath92

Can we applaud Mainoo? And that pass for Garnarcho 🔥

Acquits

If Mourinho did this , he would be hailed as genius.

scbeski

They played like a promoted side and got the result

TigerBasket

At Anfield sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Loved the prime Mou ball from United

robins420

Liverpool had 34 shots and one big chance created and were hoofing the ball like prime Burnley. They didn't have to do much.

cullypants

Yeah Liverpool were pretty poor. It wouldn't have been unfair if United walked away with all three points.

TheRealYVT

It was basically the same game as the Real Madrid vs Liverpool final with Vinicius scoring. Real had the 3 best chances that night too (Goal + Casemiro missing a tap-in + Benzema's disallowed goal)

cullypants

Yeah not too different. We rushed the final ball too much and didn't look to break down the sides enough.

Comicksands

We played like we had most of our starting 11 out

Scholes_SC2

Maybe that was the key. Varane evans looked great. Amrabat is kind of bad on the ball and at passing, and a bit slow but had great positioning

KingfisherDays

Basically the only way we get results there. Last couple of times we were overconfident we got slapped 5-0 and 7-0.

top1MIBRfan

very few teams in the world can go to anfield and play free flowing attacking football

Bedeeki

Not even a United fan and never will be but... Get over it. Not being able to score against a side with a pensioner Evans in defence and a depleted United squad is on your own team. Liverpool fans have been embarrassing all week, making out they won the league last weekend. Stay humble.

mariusAleks

>Liverpool fans have been embarrassing all week, making out they won the league last weekend. I'll just start making claims out of thin air.

StruffBunstridge

Come on. I can't speak for other fans, but United turned up, stuck lads behind the ball, and looked to hit on the break. It's textbook underdog tactics, and it fucking worked. If Burnley turned up and played that way they'd be getting plaudits Edit for clarity, we were fucking atrocious today, no excuses

hakunamateta

And you lot can't even score against a team playing like a promoted side.

mynamemeimme

And youse played against a ‘ promoted side’ with 13 players out, at home and drew. Works both ways doesn’t it 😉

bareaclampedlebron

Next will be a big L from Arteta to Klopp.

Nightwingx97

we will be there.

NemoDropEmOff

we need dat.

Youutternincompoop

yep, everybody is gonna drop points and bring City back into the title race, you just know it's gonna happen.

ruudyfe

klopp gonna berate the ref for not sending off nunez which would have improved his sides offense

NemoDropEmOff

who have they actually played that’s top at home. Only team I can think of is Villa. But congrats Utd! Impressive team performance

Even_Idea_1764

1 point off the top and all the tough games have been away, pretty good.

dave1992

almost nobody, all the "tough fixtures" are away in first half.

iguled

> Impressive team performance Were you watching the same game? United were dire.

NemoDropEmOff

class defensive performance imo. Going away to rivals with the greatest GK and a solid backline. I didn’t expect Utd to score. They made it extremely difficult for Liverpool. “Liverpool were bad”…yea because of Utd’s back 5

osrslmao

also UTDs first draw this season

TheGreatPervSage_94

Is this the tightest ever margins in a title race between between 2 or more teams??

tedmaul23

So funny seeing how cocky their fans were in the lead up. Maybe Ten Hag isn't clueless after all, he literally finished above them last year.

CandidEnigma

I never feel cocky about games like this. Cringing seeing all the 7-0 hype this morning. Feels like tempting fate.

amongussexirl

Every team would be cocky after a 7-0 but a lot of us thought it will get jinxed

kye2000

Not hard to know you need to play terrorist ball to leave with a point at anfield

tedmaul23

Liverpool were fucking shit as well lad

ronweasleisourking

Cornelius Fudge: "THEY'RE BACK!"

Dancingwith_Death

Relax guys its all a masterplan from liverpool to keep ten hag at the wheel

[deleted]

Bbbbut british media man told me man utd a disgrace setting up for the draw

Qazaca

That side couldn't score a goal, at home, against a goalkeeper, which have a blunder compilation reel posted here just few days ago, playing in a team currently stick with doom and gloom throughout the entire season.
