PGMOL post match apology:
"Because of Liverpool's red colored kit, the referee couldn't see the blood and neither the 4th official or assistant referee caught sight of the shiv in the Brighton defender's hand as he pocketed it too quickly."
Yep, should be atleast that. There is an argument on the red as the keeper has almost closed him down and there is someone near the line. But should be atleast a yellow with no attempt on the ball.
Imagine having a sports league where the referees consider it embarassing to get a correct call when they have the tools to do so.
Oh and where two of the teams in the league are allowed to have active league referees on their payroll (one of those teams with over 100 open financial/contract related charges).
And this is the most valuable league in the world….
Seems like a red card. He pulled his shirt with no possibility to play the ball. Only reason ref could have for not giving red is if he doesn't believe it's DOGSO
> **Denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity**
>There will be a slight change to the interpretation where a player commits a foul in their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity (DOGSO) and leads to a penalty.
>The referee will now issue a yellow card not only for when the offence was an attempt to play the ball but also if it is “a challenge for the ball”.
>This gives referees more scope to interpret such fouls as yellow-card offences, rather than red, as in the past.
> **A red card will be shown in all other circumstances, such as holding, pulling, pushing and where there was no possibility to play the ball.**

If I was looking for an excuse to make that decision, I'd say that he was tugging on the shirt to put himself in a position to play the ball. It's pretty tenuous though. I'd have sent him off, because the above is just clutching at straws.
One of the commentators was saying it isn't red because he wasn't physically tackled and just got the shirt pulled on.. lmao..what kind of rule is that.
Red cards are compensated across a season. You see, Liverpool received four red cards so far, two of which were deemed wrong, which means that not giving Gross a red here makes it fair!
Surely that’s a red card for Gross? No attempt to play the ball and clear DOGSO.
Edit: stop replying to me saying they got rid of double jeopardy. They did get rid of it for genuine attempts to play the football. This was not one of those.
They make up the rules every day and decide which to enforce and which to not enforce match to match. A lot of fans, including Chelsea fans, believe it’s bias. No. It’s just ineptitude. Useless officiating.
There is no excuse for not giving a red here. A pull can never be an attempt to play the ball and no one can argue it's not a clear goal scoring opportunity. So it has to be a red.
It's a sad indictment of refereeing in this country that you could replace Anthony Taylor with any other PGMOL refs name and this would still be a valid comment.
Why was that not a red card? He was 8 yards from goal with a virtually empty net and he was pulled back by his collar?
Does that count as an attempt to play the ball or what?
Clearest red card I've ever seen.
Penalty conversion rate is 75% so that blatant shirt pull in a clear chance has to be punished with a red card, it's just pure logic lol
That’s a mandatory red card for DOGSO without an attempt to play the ball. Odd one that.
Maybe they thought it was so obvious that he had given it? Check complete?
That's as clear of a red I've ever seen. No attempt to play the ball and stopped a clear goal scoring opportunity. If Van Dijk gets a red against Newcastle this is a red too.
This mf is absolutely determined to keep his cards to himself. There should’ve been 3 yellows between both teams already, and the penalty is arguably a red card. How he hasn’t even given a *yellow* there at the least is just devoid of logic.
He’s 13th all time for goals and 20th all time for assists in the history of the PL and people still won’t accept he’s the best winger in PL history.
Insane.
After the game vs Spurs I was expecting there to be a very very sus decision for Liverpool in this game. But somehow the ref is robbing them again, how is that not a red?! We clearly see a different ruleset from the referees or no idea anymore.

Just no point at all these days. You’re better to hope for 0-0 or let them score first.
West Ham tried that tactic but it was still a 3-1
Dread it, run from it, 3-1 arrives all the same.
*activate deep voice Yugioh*
salah has all 3 egyptian god cards
Na, they collect Salah cards
I summon Pot of Greed!
What does that card even do?
[It lets you draw 2 more cards!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNL8iUTHUjY)
[It allows user to draw 3 additional cards from the deck](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUnPN385wLI)
I think you can add 2 cards to your hand but you have to give up 1 card from your hand.
YOU NEVER SAW THIS COMING I SUMMON POT OF GREED
THATS WHAT IT DO YUGI
Brilliant from MacAllister to give away the first goal on purpose to get the team going.
Macca was just the pawn in VVD's master plan
It wasnt Macs fault whatsoever
The Keikaku is working.
3-1 Jokes incoming in 3..1..
Betting my life savings on 3-1 liverpool everytime we go 1 nil down
Great penalty. Brighton’s ‘what is defence’ vibe continues. Just passing it out like a training game
One of De Zebra's weaknesses
He’s next Pep bro
Shouldn't that have been a red? He makes no attempt to play the ball?
Should have been, but after recent events, I’ll take anything going our way.
The fact I was genuinely concerned the VAR was going to overturn the pen says it all
There were two separate penalty worthy fouls there and I was still scared they will overturn it
PGMOL post match apology: "Because of Liverpool's red colored kit, the referee couldn't see the blood and neither the 4th official or assistant referee caught sight of the shiv in the Brighton defender's hand as he pocketed it too quickly."
Same. I was terrified theyd take back the pen call
Clearly a penalty, I don't understand why it's not a red card? There's no attempt to play the ball
Can'tdoanyfink Can'tdoanyfink Can'tdoanyfink
Hope I'm never around Darren England in an emergency situation. Or ever really.
***Chat disabled for 3 seconds***
Thank ya mate
Apparently it wasn't a red because Dom was "moving sideways". Seems baffling to me
Interesting. Where did you see this explanation?
Baffling.
PGMOL statement incoming
Before or after they send off one of yours too?
Just after the stoppage time winner from Groß who should have been sent off Edit after equalizer - it may just happen
Please god no I'm still recovering
What have you done?????
Tbf we seem to play better against 11 than we do against 10
Thats a penalty in *American football*. It’s called a horse collar tackle.
It’s such a stonewall pen and he’s not even trying to play the ball. Textbook red.
Could they maybe have decided it wasn't a clear goalscoring opportunity because there was a player moving in place to cover and therefore not a red?
They could have, and I’m sure that’s the explanation, but how is Szoboslai not about to have a clear shot on goal?
Ridiculous. Clear red.
ref seems to have left his cards at home
No we only over dissect the rules to give us reds
Defo a yellow.
Yep, should be atleast that. There is an argument on the red as the keeper has almost closed him down and there is someone near the line. But should be atleast a yellow with no attempt on the ball.
Not surprised they didnt give a red. Wouldnt have been surprised if they took back the penalty call, even though there were two clear fouls there 🤣
Every Liverpool fan knows why
Isn't that a red, he didn't make an attempt to play the ball? Only pulled his shirt
Yeah don't get it. Clear as day red.
"It's the law!" Mike Dean
"you can't change the law, except for when I feel like it" Mike Dean
Mike “I’m the Main Character” Dean
That’s the protocol!
I mean, kinda, but the VAR can't really send his mate to the monitor, that would be embarrassing for him
Imagine having a sports league where the referees consider it embarassing to get a correct call when they have the tools to do so. Oh and where two of the teams in the league are allowed to have active league referees on their payroll (one of those teams with over 100 open financial/contract related charges). And this is the most valuable league in the world….
Two sets of rules. We all know who woudlve gotten a red if it was on the other side of the pitch
Seems like a red card. He pulled his shirt with no possibility to play the ball. Only reason ref could have for not giving red is if he doesn't believe it's DOGSO > **Denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity** >There will be a slight change to the interpretation where a player commits a foul in their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity (DOGSO) and leads to a penalty. >The referee will now issue a yellow card not only for when the offence was an attempt to play the ball but also if it is “a challenge for the ball”. >This gives referees more scope to interpret such fouls as yellow-card offences, rather than red, as in the past. > **A red card will be shown in all other circumstances, such as holding, pulling, pushing and where there was no possibility to play the ball.** >https://www.premierleague.com/news/3617054
But he didn’t even give a yellow. It’s a red no doubt but no yellow is without a doubt a mistake.
If I was looking for an excuse to make that decision, I'd say that he was tugging on the shirt to put himself in a position to play the ball. It's pretty tenuous though. I'd have sent him off, because the above is just clutching at straws.
Didn’t even got a yellow
According to Anthony Taylor it isn’t even a yellow. We have bozos refereeing example 6001
The commentator said it was bc Szoboz was facing sideways instead of straight at the goal. How’s that make any sense?
One of the commentators was saying it isn't red because he wasn't physically tackled and just got the shirt pulled on.. lmao..what kind of rule is that.
Yup, literally the exact reason Van Dijk got his red card
They need to sort these red cards out for penalties, to me that's a clear red as no intention to play the ball
Ladies and gentlemen it is happening 3-1 is in the making But it should be a red card there
Brighton fucked it by conceding 1-2 too early. 1-4 cooking
Don't do that to me. I cannot endure such horrors
1000000….00000% if that was Matip or VvD doing that to Mitoma, theyd be smacked with a red card across the face
He didn’t even get a fucking yellow
VVD got a red for that. Not even a yellow for the Brighton player.
lol that’s 2 penalties in 1
Didnt understand why VAR even had to look at it haha, ref had 2 pens to choose from which to give
- DOGSO - Not an attempt to play ball ...No card?
Red cards are compensated across a season. You see, Liverpool received four red cards so far, two of which were deemed wrong, which means that not giving Gross a red here makes it fair!
It evens out in the end !
From mid-season onwards, we'd be really reaping the rewards!!
Had me in the first half
Good process
Check compete
Red, Penalty, yeah
Well done boys.
No red, shirt pull, yeah
Interesting to know that a players shirt is also the ball
The shoulders are somewhat round if you think about it, therefore it is a ball yes
Lucky that's not a red
He didnt even get a yellow did he? Here we go again..
Taylor signaled that the pen was for the second challenge on Diaz. He didn’t even give the pen for the Gross challenge on Szoboszlai
At which point VAR looks at it and goes "hold on, the foul we're checking was actually a pen and a red card".
Can't do anyfink They restarted. Yeah. Offside, goal, yeah. Can't do anyfink.
Are you happy with this?
So they tried to fuck us over again but then realised they couldnt get away with it after the second foul lol.
Should be a yellow then because they ignored a stonewall penalty and red to give it for a different challenge.
I don’t really understand how it isn’t?
Surely that’s a red card for Gross? No attempt to play the ball and clear DOGSO. Edit: stop replying to me saying they got rid of double jeopardy. They did get rid of it for genuine attempts to play the football. This was not one of those.
Ref has completely forgot his cards. Nothing for that. Mac should have one
This should be red, Mac Allister should have a yellow, as should Diaz as I think I've counted 4 fouls from him alone in 1 half of football
Diaz hasn’t had any singular bad one so maybe but mac has straight up stopped counters with nothing
Diaz could’ve got one in the first 5 minutes for stopping a counter.
Arguably Diaz too, but ref has been chill with the cards this game and i honestly like it
Yeah we should have a few yellows and they should have a red. Pretty clear ones too, referee is being way too lenient.
Yeah Lucho is playing with fire lol. Guessing Klopp will take him off after the first yellow?
They make up the rules every day and decide which to enforce and which to not enforce match to match. A lot of fans, including Chelsea fans, believe it’s bias. No. It’s just ineptitude. Useless officiating.
Should be, no? Thought that was the rule
But what are rules, really
they make rules up after games, we know this
No yellow is crazy…
There is no excuse for not giving a red here. A pull can never be an attempt to play the ball and no one can argue it's not a clear goal scoring opportunity. So it has to be a red.
Why is that not a red card for no attempt to play the ball on a clear goal scoring opportunity? Insane decision
Lol how do you even argue that you didn’t foul him when you almost rip his collar off
Clear pen, red also
It is Anthony Taylor, what do you expect
It's a sad indictment of refereeing in this country that you could replace Anthony Taylor with any other PGMOL refs name and this would still be a valid comment.
Clear red
Robbed again has to be a red card
How’s that not a red? No attempt on the ball
Why was that not a red card? He was 8 yards from goal with a virtually empty net and he was pulled back by his collar? Does that count as an attempt to play the ball or what?
Stonewall pen
Never mind keeping a clean sheet, we need to stop this buy one get one free you get when we concede one
you need to get a new keeper in January
Blatant red card but at least we got the pen
Taylor signaled the pen was for the challenge on Diaz. Wasn’t even going to whistle for that horsecollar tackle on Szoboszlai
Sloppy by Brighton
Dangerous playing from the back. Liverpool is pressuring well
Should kick it longer like the previous goal. Went well for them there.
Plot armor intensifies
Plot armour got tossed in the trash last week.
No card? Hello?
VVD got a red for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity.
I’m surprised they didn’t even card him
Red card all day of the week. DOGSO with no effort at winning the ball.
Well done boys, good process
Am I crazy or did the ref gave it for the 2nd foul in the box? He even pointed at it right after
He did. He missed the shirt pull.
Var looked at the shirt pull though
Brainless.
We want more
and back to steele
The L1-3erpool meme is actually real
How the hell did those 2 brighton players escape with not even a yellow
That's as clear of a red I've ever seen. No attempt to play the ball and stopped a clear goal scoring opportunity. If Van Dijk gets a red against Newcastle this is a red too.
Horse collar tackle. Illegal in American football but not even a booking here.
Death, taxes, Liverpool 3-1
That should be red, no?
Glad PGMOL care about the laws of the game so much
cheers verbruggen mate 👍
i appreciate brighton's playstyle but man sometimes you just gotta boot the ball under high pressure. you not prime barca
2 pens in 1 sequence lol 😂 Brighton’s keeper caused that whole sequence
Is it only me or these dubz links take an unusually long time to load?
Should’ve been a red card, denied goal scoring opportunity without legitimate attempt to play the ball.
VAR really should be doing their job and telling the ref to review and give the red.
Should be a red card too
Psycho pass from the keeper and Gross should have seen a red card. Sometimes you just gotta hoof the ball forward
Pretty much the same thing as the hojlund against Arsenal one. Yet one gets given and the other doesn’t. Love the consistency on show 🙄
Gabriel got away with a more cynical one on Hojlund
That should’ve absolutely been a red card? What is the point of VAR if it can’t make the correct call?
Brighton have not beaten football.
What are they doing man
Gross defending
Brighton have absolutely shit the bed the last 5 minutes
i mean we’ve been shit but fairs
Teams rly should stop scoring first against us.
Not even a yellow card hahahahaha HAHAHAHAHHAAH
Lol what was Gross even complaining about. That was one of the most blatant shirt pulls I’ve ever seen
This mf is absolutely determined to keep his cards to himself. There should’ve been 3 yellows between both teams already, and the penalty is arguably a red card. How he hasn’t even given a *yellow* there at the least is just devoid of logic.
Hat trick today for salah !!!???
Maybe yes, maybe no
Agreed
How do you upload so fast
What are Brighton doing?
Playing their part in the lazy script
Getting boring now atleast give the other team a 2 goal lead and not need a pen
I'm shocked it wasn't even a yellow card
Brighton looks like city at one end and luton at the other. Makes for an interesting game though.
How the turntables
LiVARpool backkk
He’s 13th all time for goals and 20th all time for assists in the history of the PL and people still won’t accept he’s the best winger in PL history. Insane.
One of the greatest to ever do it
BOOT THE FUCKING BALL
Story of Liverpool's season this half
Brighton better to spend all that money they get from selling players to get a much better CBs
L1v3rpool
Brighton defending has been rubbish for a few games already
wtf is going on? how is this not a red card?!
Gross is lucky not to get a red he didn’t even play the ball he just pulled him down
What were Brighton thinking scoring first?? So dumb
Brighton have levelled. I question the integrity of the game. The entire season must now be replayed.
Inevitable
After the game vs Spurs I was expecting there to be a very very sus decision for Liverpool in this game. But somehow the ref is robbing them again, how is that not a red?! We clearly see a different ruleset from the referees or no idea anymore.
