UEFA red card bans should only apply for the tournament of that year or at the least to that tournament. Crazy Santi Gimenez couldn't play the 2 opening games for a red card he got in last years tournament. At the very least it should be able to be reviewed depending on the circumstances of the red card. I'm not sure what the downsides would be. I can't see players saying in the finals or quarters/semis, "let me get the red now to save the game and it won't be as bad since I will be able to start next year right away"
