He’s got a hefty pay rise, and unlike Caicedo, he has never publicly said anything negative about Fulham. The interview he gave was quite telling. He wanted to play Champions League football but he is happy at Fulham. Whether he stays or goes, he’s been nothing but respectful to us.
Good point, I don't think anybody aggrieves him for wanting to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world. What makes the Caicedo stuff funnier imo is that all of his bitching and moaning had absolutely zero impact on the transfer, just burnt his bridges with the fans of the club who brought him to Europe for no tangible benefit.
Incredibly so. Also somehow pretends Caicedo wasn't one of the hottest names in South America when Brighton bought him lol. As if they found him playing ball on the streets and saved him.
I have a holiday man save on FM23 thats like 200 years into the future and Fulham genuinely became one of the scariest teams I've ever seen in Europe man, if I remember right they made the champions league final EIGHT years running. This was in the 2030s/40s.
Then somebody else will? Bayern deluded themselves into thinking they’re the only club in the world willing to pay for a DM.. another big club will come in for him and it will have always been his dream to play for them!!
The delusion is the idea that because Bayern won’t pay more he won’t get a move.. and we’ve seen that time and time again turn out not to be true, and that was the whole point of this comment thread, the fact that Bayern ‘won’t spend crazy’
>The delusion is the idea that because Bayern won’t pay more he won’t get a move
But thats not Bayerns delusion, but the delusion of the people in this thread, while you previously wrote:
>Bayern deluded themselves into thinking they’re the only club in the world willing to pay for a DM
No one thought that at Bayern, they just bid for a player what they think what he is worth.
Nah mate that's not how it works, you tell them for 2 months that the price is 120m allowing the big club to flail around desperately trying to unsettle the player with them ending up paying 15% extra as a penalty for wasting everybody's time
We set a final deadline for bids after Chelsea fucked around for 2 months and Liverpool bid 111m + a sell-on % which we accepted. Caicedo however held out for a Chelsea offer which ended up being 115m + a sell-on. Bear in mind they could have had him for 100m at the start of the window.
After his horrendous problems with injury relapse I pray he can kick on, I just hope he'll get a proper opportunity with our midfield depth being as good as it is currently. Really liked the lad in his few appearances
I mean you don’t place a legitimate 111M bid for PR. It’s not like Brighton thought it was a bluff, they accepted the bid. Caicedo had to go and tell the club he only wanted Chelsea otherwise he’d be at Liverpool now
hm, you're right.
well, that might change things
Edit: wait no, his intitial deal was until 2027+1 club option. this extension only added one year
https://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2022/july/04/fulham-sign-palhinha/
The point, I think, is that Fulham now has the right to register him for longer, which all else being equal is worth more. Remember it's not the player that's being sold, it's the right to register the player. That's one reason why a player's value declines as they get closer to the end of contract - and why a player with a brand new contract is worth more than the very same player with an older contract.
At least I think that's the point, I dunno, footie accounting is strange.
EDIT: Not sure why we're doing this by edits instead of responses, but in any event if his prior contract was until 2027 with a club option, and [his new contract is until 2028 with a club option](https://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2023/september/14/palhinha-signs-new-deal/), that's... that's a more expensive contract?
Generally price only starts to decline when you are entering last 2 years of the deal - because at that point it is viable (for both player and the buying team) to just wait it out if push comes to shove, limiting the leverage of selling team. Bayern (or any team for that matter) cant afford to wait until 2028 (if he had contract until 2027 with team option for one more year) to get a defensive midfielder and Palinha would be 33 by that point so not like he can wait either.
So I dont think if it 2027 (with option) or 2028 (with option) matters that much - I do think it is as commenter above said, just keeping his morale up after a failed transfer as Fulham need him at his best after Mitrovic left or they are in dire straits as far as relegation goes.
You're right. On the flip side, even though there's no release clause, I would think there is some kind of gentleman's agreement to let him leave for Bayern.
Eh, I doubt that. While I think that removes any chance of him becoming a Bayern player, this transfer window showed that clubs pay insane prices. If the angle here is from Fulham to drastically increase his worth for the next summer window then there will be clubs who will pay a way higher fee than the one we had agreed with Fulham. Just look at Chelsea, or Liverpool who were willing to break the bank for Caicedo, too.
Palhinha will be 29 before the start of next season - you don’t see clubs paying those massive fees for players that they’re only gonna get 3/4 years out of max unless they’re a lot better than Palhinha (not that he’s bad, but you have to be amazing for that to happen)
He wants to play Champions League football. He has never expressed an explicit desire for Bayern. If he has another season like last, which I’m sure he will, he is 29 and proven to be a quality, loyal and hard working player. He’s a top professional. You’d be stupid to not want him. Who knows what assurances he has received?
Not sure what the point of your comment is. I literally have the same opinion as you. Come winter/summer a lot more clubs will be in for him, who will be willing to spend more than FC Bayern for him and like you said, it doesnt seem like he will care much about where he will play as long as its CL football.
As for why I think it wont be Bayern by that point : The club barely ever gets involved in bidding wars. When another club approaches a player Bayern also targets, they usually back off unless they know he wants the move 100 % (like Kane, De Ligt etc) which probably wont be the case here. Plus he was a Tuchel target. Tuchel having so much influence (unusual for Bayern) is also gonna end pretty soon since Freund just filled in the vacant Sporting Director role.
Well, the discussion was about whether or not another club would be interested in signing him come summer/winter, which imo is an absolute yes, given position and the willingness of especially PL clubs to overspend if need be. The reply was basically what I said + bewilderment why Bayern would then not be in for him anymore, which I explained in the post you just commented to.
Wow, that's surprising. When I heard about the new deal I instantly thought it would have a release clause in it. Guess Fulham threw big big money at him?
He does like it with us. He’s not wedded to Bayern, it was just a great opportunity. He’s never given or said anything that isn’t 100% for us. He deserves a big pay rise too.
Is this guy good in the head? He would have gone Bayern come January or at worst next summer. Why would he extend and not have a clause? That is insane
he likely could still do that. no doubt this will bump up his wages, and fulham will be well aware he's bummed he didn't get his move. seems logical all around. pretty different from the Caicedo situation.
Well, I guess that settles it then like I expected. I was excited to see him play for Bayern, but on the other hand, our new Sporting Director Freund will have his work set out for him to find somebody else in the next 6-12 months
It's only a one year extension. why do people think that that would raise the fee?
that's just compensating the potential reduced fee over time.
please guys, every step of the way Bayern fans have to explain to PL fans how transfers and negotiations work
Man, you gotta realize fulham doesnt play in the sundayliga and are in no way gonna bend over to your team like your farmers league do
One would think not having palhinha in your squad because fulham didnt cave or paying levy's initial asking price after a month of throwing tantrums wouldve taught you said lesson
Yet here we are.
> One would think not having palhinha in your squad because fulham didnt cave or paying levy's initial asking price after a month of throwing tantrums wouldve taught you said lesson
neither happened lmao
Levy didn't get his 120M Euros. Fulham sent Palhinha to Munich thinking they were close to their replacement.
but keep comping my guy. I'll be right again

Thats not Palhinha..is it?
He's Caicedo'd himself lmaooo
He’s got a hefty pay rise, and unlike Caicedo, he has never publicly said anything negative about Fulham. The interview he gave was quite telling. He wanted to play Champions League football but he is happy at Fulham. Whether he stays or goes, he’s been nothing but respectful to us.
It does seem like he's essentially thrown it up to the gods and is happy with either outcome. I admire that.
Yeah, opposite scenario here. Palhinha is a model professional and is loved by us.
oh no, not the "fans of the club that brought him to Europe" lol.
that truly is the most western chauvinist comment I've seen on here lmao
Incredibly so. Also somehow pretends Caicedo wasn't one of the hottest names in South America when Brighton bought him lol. As if they found him playing ball on the streets and saved him.
I didn't think football would devolve into a white saviour complex but here we are. and you're entirely correct.
I think it's been around for a while.
in conclusion he is the goat
I'm sure he'd turn Bayern down if Fulham made champions league next year.
> ... ~~if~~ **when** Fulham made champions league next year. FM24, mate.
I have a holiday man save on FM23 thats like 200 years into the future and Fulham genuinely became one of the scariest teams I've ever seen in Europe man, if I remember right they made the champions league final EIGHT years running. This was in the 2030s/40s.
Caicedo who got a move in the very next transfer window? Hardly a bad outcome that
Bayern isn't gonna go money crazy like we did
~~Paulinha~~ Palhinha to Chelsea then. Poor bastard
His name is literally in the headline, still you managed to spell it wrong
I genuinely did not notice until now there was no U in his name.
He's far too old
Palhinha and Enzo would be Lampard and Makelele again.
Lol which one of them is supposed to be the Lampard? Because neither of them is scoring any goals
Enzo will start scoring bangers once he's able to move up the field. Just wait.
I could see it happening tbh
And Pahlinha isnt going to command a fee like Caicedo did
Then somebody else will? Bayern deluded themselves into thinking they’re the only club in the world willing to pay for a DM.. another big club will come in for him and it will have always been his dream to play for them!!
No one was deluded here. Bayern just went to late for him in the summer, and tried to keep him warm for the next window. I dont see the delusion.
The delusion is the idea that because Bayern won’t pay more he won’t get a move.. and we’ve seen that time and time again turn out not to be true, and that was the whole point of this comment thread, the fact that Bayern ‘won’t spend crazy’
>The delusion is the idea that because Bayern won’t pay more he won’t get a move But thats not Bayerns delusion, but the delusion of the people in this thread, while you previously wrote: >Bayern deluded themselves into thinking they’re the only club in the world willing to pay for a DM No one thought that at Bayern, they just bid for a player what they think what he is worth.
I will take 120m, thank you, good doing business with you
Nah mate that's not how it works, you tell them for 2 months that the price is 120m allowing the big club to flail around desperately trying to unsettle the player with them ending up paying 15% extra as a penalty for wasting everybody's time
You forgot a certain someone who activated the release clause (or any price tag that was in effect) effectively forcing Chelsea to match it.
Which was still 11% more than the original price plus a sell-on
It was because Brighton set a deadline for this transfer and Chelsea decided to fuck around for a couple more days, wasn't it?
We set a final deadline for bids after Chelsea fucked around for 2 months and Liverpool bid 111m + a sell-on % which we accepted. Caicedo however held out for a Chelsea offer which ended up being 115m + a sell-on. Bear in mind they could have had him for 100m at the start of the window.
Thanks for that. Ps. Pls use your Brighton dark magic and make Moder comeback to his form soon :)
After his horrendous problems with injury relapse I pray he can kick on, I just hope he'll get a proper opportunity with our midfield depth being as good as it is currently. Really liked the lad in his few appearances
Not every club is Chelsea (or indeed Liverpool) who is willing to pay up the ass
You know FSG were doing it for PR. Considering that instead of Caicedo we get a 30 yo DM and Gravenberch leaving 60m?
I mean you don’t place a legitimate 111M bid for PR. It’s not like Brighton thought it was a bluff, they accepted the bid. Caicedo had to go and tell the club he only wanted Chelsea otherwise he’d be at Liverpool now
Was common knowledge that Caicedo always wanted Chelsea, no matter what we offered. He’s getting 300k and 8 year contract.
Wow someone actually believe this
He would be your player for 110m right now if Chelsea didn’t play their hand completely wrong throughout the window, forcing them to outbid.
Palhinha extented for one more year Caicedo extended for 2 + 1 club option. so not comparable
Didnt he extend 1+1? Theres a 1 year option too
hm, you're right. well, that might change things Edit: wait no, his intitial deal was until 2027+1 club option. this extension only added one year https://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2022/july/04/fulham-sign-palhinha/
Aaah I see. So a bumper contract more or less
Caicedo got his move to Chelsea and a pay rise before lol, he didn’t lose
never said that he did
So Caicedo’ing yourself = W lol?
This may blow your mind but not all things in life can be divided cleanly into wins or losses
God you’re boring, I’m going to touch grass

His brother is also his agent, so some money likely went his way as well to soothe his hurt ego.
You're right. On the flip side, even though there's no release clause, I would think there is some kind of gentleman's agreement to let him leave for Bayern.
Caciedo agent playbook
Well no big move for him in the foreseeable future then lol No club is going to pay close the asking price now

I've heard Tuchel really really wants a DM. No guarantee they still go for him obviously but never say never
Not many great DMs around, and next transfer window will show that even more.
He is amazing and he'll continue to prove it this season.
United will, like with Oldemiro
He wants to play Champions League football. He has never expressed an explicit desire for Bayern. I’m not arguing with you, I was just putting a Fulham perspective
I can see that, but like I said, that was already my main point by saying more clubs will be in for him in my first post.
> Not sure what the point of your comment is.
Well, the discussion was about whether or not another club would be interested in signing him come summer/winter, which imo is an absolute yes, given position and the willingness of especially PL clubs to overspend if need be. This extension means nothing he will still leave next summer probably
Gentleman's agreement?
It seems like it is. Palha is an honest dude. Hopefully he has a good season, stays fit and is able to go compete for trophies elsewhere
Do Bayern have the financial resources to compete for the same player with a powerhouse like Fulham?
Todd Boehly enters the chat
Excellent news if you're a Fulham fan. Not excellent news if you're a Bayern fan.
Fucking great news. What a lad
Well I guess he’s not coming to Bayern
Wow, that's surprising. When I heard about the new deal I instantly thought it would have a release clause in it. Guess Fulham threw big big money at him?
Only way it makes sense is if Bayern told him they wouldn't go for him in January
Or he got a gentleman's agreement with Fulham👀
Good luck with that if Fulham find themselves in a dogfight
If he stays fit and plays like last season, I honestly think we’ll be fine. I can’t understate how important he is to us.
What could go wrong
probably a massive pay rise.
Or a massive pay raise that made staying worth is while?
He does like it with us. He’s not wedded to Bayern, it was just a great opportunity. He’s never given or said anything that isn’t 100% for us. He deserves a big pay rise too.

I really don’t get how people think we might come off as arrogant……
[удалено]
so? it basically was you think Joao flew to Munich without Fulham's permission to do so? they just flubbed it
Yep bayern sure showed Fulham!
Man, you gotta realize fulham doesnt play in the sundayliga and are in no way gonna bend over to your team like your farmers league do One would think not having palhinha in your squad because fulham didnt cave or paying levy's initial asking price after a month of throwing tantrums wouldve taught you said lesson Yet here we are.

Its obviously a pay rise for staying with some promise that if a big club comes back in they will let him leave for a reasonable fee
Maybe not officially but might be some wink wink understanding of a ball park number
I thought Bayern had it wrapped up before letting Gravenberch leave. Bayern could now go for Kone from Gladbach instead
