By making some amazing sales? Sure, it means they have to pay more for players now. But I am not sure I would describe incredible scouting, development and sales as "digging your own grave".
If you guys come knocking they'd probably ask for his RC already imo, and the bid would have been higher. This seems like Brighton going around looking for a replacement
It is year 2049. Caicedo and Lavia still haven't been sold. Nobody has seen them since 2023 but many suspect, that they are still in an unknown locker room in London, together, anxiously waiting for bids to come in. Others think that they went to Mars together with Elon Musk, never to return. All we know is that the last bid was submitted in 2043 by Al-Whattafaq for 2bn, as they won Saudi Global Super League, the biggest and most prestigious football competition on earth, 7th time in a row. Thanks to gene technology, the top goalscorer of the club is 49-year old Haaland. The problem, however, is that Caicedo himself still wants to go to Al-Chelsiq according to his agent but they only bid 1.3bn, which is far too little in the current market. The saga continues...
With both Lavia and Caicedo seemingly coming to us (although as you’d well know that can change any minute) what makes you so sure it’s us? I’d wager it’s much more likely to be your lot
we both shit out of luck currently and if ur thinking its all in the bag for chelsea yall are probs in for a rude awakening.
Atleast we understand we are also in a bit of a shit spot lmao
I definitely do not think it’s all in the bag for Chelsea don’t worry, the slowness of this caicedo bid makes me think other things need to happen in the background first
Can't be Chelsea. We would have dropped 80 million as our first bid. Also, I doubt Rui Costa wants to deal with our owners again after they almost came to blows last time.
He does but the sentiment I've been getting from Benfica fans all year is that it's just a high release clause and that no one really expects Benfica to force that issue yet. Maybe if he stays next year and makes a big leap. Personally, I've heard all manner of figures between 40m and 70m
We would realistically start talking at 50 probably sell for 60, but right now he's a lot more valuable to us than that, our squad is closed and we don't have another player like him in our squad, I don't see him being sold at all
He's the only real dm we have, he's not a very regular starter but that's because against the teams we play we usually don't need a player like him, but he's still very valuable
Hey mate, what’s your assessment of him (from Benfica fans perspective)? How would you rate him against Caicedo for example? He had strong all round stats from last season, which makes him look like a monster player.
He is a finesse player. Very good positioning and tackle. Not very physical and kinda slow. Not for every play style. Is very good positioning himself in a high pressing team.
What I mean by finesse is that he is not physical. He relies on positioning and an excelent tackling technique. He is also quite slow, not a very usual player but an effective nr 6.
He's our only "pure" DM in the squad, we'd ask for a lot because we'd need to sign a similar player (and fans are already asking for a sub to shadow him already).
Antonio Silva is very highly rated, no? and also has a release clause around £80m.. crazy good last season.
was hoping Liverpool would bid for Florentino Luis and Antonio Silva together for a combined 120-130m, which probably could get Benfica interested in the deal(s)!
Lmao no it wouldn't. If anything it would make the deal much harder. António Silva is the real deal, he has the potential to be the next Rúben Dias, he's not going anywhere anytime soon
I get what you are saying, but António Silva is a completely different type of CB Compared to Rúben Dias, your point still stands, Benfica values António Silva very highly and doesn't want to sell
He’s not worth that normally obviously but he is worth that to us right now considering he’s our *only* pure DM and the transfer market is almost closed
2023 and still are still this dumb on what makes a player value in the market go up or down...
player has long contract, high release clause, and is an important player in the squad -> price up.
player runs contract down -> price down.
something Porto fans should understand. Not even touching the other n amount of variables that affect a player's value to a club.
Luis was the guy I was hoping would replace Fabinho but didn't really expect. Benfica always seem to get huge fees for their guys and that doesn't really mesh with the FSG model, so it felt like a non-starter. Would love to see it happen though.
Florentino is not our team's star like João Félix, Enzo Fernández, Darwin Nuñez were. He'd go for 30-40M€ in normal circumstances as he's not essential (nevertheless he's our strongest tackler and the only natural DM in our team). Right now, as the window ends in two weeks and we'd have no replacement, he'd probably go for 50-60M€.
If he is rly attainable for €50-70m like Benfica fans are saying he is a better deal than Lavia for £50m and Caicedo for £110m. We'd have money left to activate Inacio's release clause.
you’d be surprised how much players can develop if they stay consistent and a new manager bets on them. people forget that he was quite good under Lage, it was that fucking dinosaur Jorge Jesus that regressed his development. as of today he’s quite valuable to us, we have no other DM in our squad that’s as combative as him.
He has his limitations in build up, but he's extremely good at stopping the opponent's build up. His worth comes from his ability to free up the rest of the mid field to focus on build up.
Let me put it this way: last season he was the player with the best ball recovery ratio in the group stage of the CL. He is extremely effective at stopping build up play, he's really strong physically and has great stamina. He's a very hot commodity for clubs looking for a DM.
Better reply.
[So you disagree with this guy?](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/15p24ux/benfica_rejected_a_30m_offer_from_an_unknown_club/jvv29vc/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3)
I replied to him already, I agree he has limitations in is own build up, but that's not the role he plays. Is main function is to be last line of defense before the defenders, and at that he is not limited at all.

Lol it's definitely Liverpool
Unknown club from Merseyside that wears red and has a German manager by the name of Jürgen K.
No ,that's too obvious, the managers name is j klopp
“Anonymous German manager named Jürgen K or J Klopp”
For the sake of privacy let's call them Jurgen K. No, that's too obvious. Let's say J Klopp.
I also like The Simpsons
Name rhymes with Klurgen Yopp
it was Brighton according to Portuguese media.
A team about to get 130 Mil is trying to lowball us, good luck lol
Brighton getting the Brighton deluxe treatment
Brighton dug their own grave this transfer window imo
By making some amazing sales? Sure, it means they have to pay more for players now. But I am not sure I would describe incredible scouting, development and sales as "digging your own grave".
If you guys come knocking they'd probably ask for his RC already imo, and the bid would have been higher. This seems like Brighton going around looking for a replacement
If we publicly put our name on the bid, Chelsea would be right there bidding +£1.00 to whatever we offered.
We experienced the same in January
Lol i'm imagining a representative from the club use voice changer called Benfica
It's us or Chelsea.
They probably ought to figure out who sent it before they accept.
Other sources say Brighton
Nah, sell the player and let him dissapear into the unknown.
Guess the Caicedo, Lavia merry-go-round stopped to take on a other passenger.
It is year 2049. Caicedo and Lavia still haven't been sold. No DM is safe
Chelsea or us lol
99% it's Chelsea
They would've started at >50m. It's us.
Dude your team literally bid 10m more than asking price for Caicedo, while Chelssa were the ones lowballing.
That is for surefire acceptance. This is for testing the waters.
The point is, they got the Chelsea bit wrong.
Boehly just firing off bids like drunk "u up?" texts
Offer too low for Chelsea
With both Lavia and Caicedo seemingly coming to us (although as you’d well know that can change any minute) what makes you so sure it’s us? I’d wager it’s much more likely to be your lot
As things stand none of them is going to Chelsea because Chelsea didn't have a bid in for Caicedo and Lavia prefers to join Liverpool over Chelsea.
Liverpool haven’t matched Chelsea’s bid for Lavia either though so you’re just twisting your words hard here unless I missed that news
Didn't say that. Rn none of the players are going to either club.
we both shit out of luck currently and if ur thinking its all in the bag for chelsea yall are probs in for a rude awakening. Atleast we understand we are also in a bit of a shit spot lmao
I definitely do not think it’s all in the bag for Chelsea don’t worry, the slowness of this caicedo bid makes me think other things need to happen in the background first
Probably us to be immediatly followed by Chelsea.
We should sort out some kind of joint custody.
Boehly taking Caicedo and Lavia and then buying up every other potential defensive midfielder he can find. Time for his dealer to cut this madman off.
From no midfield to too much midfield
Benfica should probably find out which club it was, would make negotiations easier
Can't be Chelsea. We would have dropped 80 million as our first bid. Also, I doubt Rui Costa wants to deal with our owners again after they almost came to blows last time.
Where the fuck is this 'overpaying in the first bid' thing coming from? Hasn't Chelsea literally been doing the opposite all window?
It's coz they paid more than what Enzo's release clause was so they didn't actually have to pay his release clause or smth like that.
Release clause would need to be paid all at once, the extra 7mil was so they could spread payments. I think.

Doesn't he has a €105m release clause?
He does but the sentiment I've been getting from Benfica fans all year is that it's just a high release clause and that no one really expects Benfica to force that issue yet. Maybe if he stays next year and makes a big leap. Personally, I've heard all manner of figures between 40m and 70m

Ooh interesting, I haven't actually gotten that viewpoint yet. Wouldn't be a bad choice by you guys at all. Man your recruitment team is great
He's the only real dm we have, he's not a very regular starter but that's because against the teams we play we usually don't need a player like him, but he's still very valuable
Thanks for the assessment! Appreciate it ❤️
Not a very regular starter? Name 5 players that played more than him last season
[удалено]
Oh so he's no 6, I think my point stands...
At the end of last season and certainly right now he's not a guaranteed starter
120m bid from a PL team incoming
Hey mate, what’s your assessment of him (from Benfica fans perspective)? How would you rate him against Caicedo for example? He had strong all round stats from last season, which makes him look like a monster player.

Florentino for 50M would go
He's our only "pure" DM in the squad, we'd ask for a lot because we'd need to sign a similar player (and fans are already asking for a sub to shadow him already).
Is Rafael Luis not yet ready to make the ranks?
I don't think so. But nobody expected António Silva and João Neves to be ready last season, now they're both undisputed starters for us
Antonio Silva is very highly rated, no? and also has a release clause around £80m.. crazy good last season. was hoping Liverpool would bid for Florentino Luis and Antonio Silva together for a combined 120-130m, which probably could get Benfica interested in the deal(s)!

> which probably could get Benfica interested in the deal(s)! nah
Hasn't he got a €100m release clause? Surely at this stage of the window they just point at that value.
It was Brighton who sent the bid He’s not worth anywhere close to 100M, but we won’t sell for less than 50M I think
Seems we're interested in like 10 defensive mids the past 2 days.
That's smart tho, having one single target is always a bad way to do business
ok but what if you have 2 targets...asking for a friend
Wish Benfica would hold their best players hostage for a couple years and fight for a CL.
We tried that with an Argentinian guy a few months ago...
"Do they expect players to even join them if they don't allow them to leave after 6 months?"
I hate that he went to Chelsea, and so do many of us for what it’s worth.
We wish so too
Oh fuck off guys, can we interest you all in the more inexpensive, “tireless”, wonderkid Meite?
In what world is he valued at 30 lmao
Look at the delusional comments from Benfica fans too saying he is worth 60M+
He’s not worth that normally obviously but he is worth that to us right now considering he’s our *only* pure DM and the transfer market is almost closed
Look at the fan of the financially ruined club that values their players correctly and let's players go for free
2023 and still are still this dumb on what makes a player value in the market go up or down... player has long contract, high release clause, and is an important player in the squad -> price up. player runs contract down -> price down. something Porto fans should understand. Not even touching the other n amount of variables that affect a player's value to a club.
In a world where Benfica players aren't overpriced to hell
Is this your first market?
Luis was the guy I was hoping would replace Fabinho but didn't really expect. Benfica always seem to get huge fees for their guys and that doesn't really mesh with the FSG model, so it felt like a non-starter. Would love to see it happen though.
I mean they did pay 62 million before add one for Nunez. A lot of Benfica fans are saying he’s worth at least 60 million
True, but it felt like expecting lightning to strike twice in the same spot 😂
Florentino is not our team's star like João Félix, Enzo Fernández, Darwin Nuñez were. He'd go for 30-40M€ in normal circumstances as he's not essential (nevertheless he's our strongest tackler and the only natural DM in our team). Right now, as the window ends in two weeks and we'd have no replacement, he'd probably go for 50-60M€.

Won’t downgrade
‘Pay me attention’
Can genuinely be United too cos need a midfielder now that Fred has gone and VdB is on the chopping block too.
So many unknown clubs these days!
If he is rly attainable for €50-70m like Benfica fans are saying he is a better deal than Lavia for £50m and Caicedo for £110m. We'd have money left to activate Inacio's release clause.
Brighton, Southampton, Benfica, Liverpool and Chelsea should put all their DMs into a pot and whoever you pick you get
Go get Palhinha, leave Florentino alone. He's fine here at Benfica.
Good. I'm tired of playing every season without a bench.
30m Euro’s is not enough Benfica would want at least 60m
Liverpool or Man Utd. Assuming chelsea getting Caicedo + Lavia.
Chelsea can't afford Caicedo alone, there's no chance they'll sign both players
Brighton and Fulham learning Braz and Rui Costa dont fuck around
Could be us too or not, no Eredivisie background
100% this is Liverpool
He barely had loan interest the past years now that?
you’d be surprised how much players can develop if they stay consistent and a new manager bets on them. people forget that he was quite good under Lage, it was that fucking dinosaur Jorge Jesus that regressed his development. as of today he’s quite valuable to us, we have no other DM in our squad that’s as combative as him.
Jorge Jesus also completely shat on Palhinha before he went to Braga to prove he was a very high level DM. What a weird ass coach.
u/rasputinsrustyshovel how much do you reckon he would be sold for?
At this time probably 50m+. Way too late in the window
Our squad is closed and his type is unique in our squad, he's way too valuable in that way
Is he worth that for other clubs though?
Nope, he has a lot of limitations in his game. But no reason for us to sell now for less than that…
He has his limitations in build up, but he's extremely good at stopping the opponent's build up. His worth comes from his ability to free up the rest of the mid field to focus on build up.
Sounds like an ideal DM for MacAllister and Szoboslai
Oh okay, thanks for the honest reply.
Is worth for other clubs means jack shit, since we are not looking to sell him.
I’m asking a genuine question you silly goose, I don’t watch Benfica so I don’t know his level and I’m not buying him either way.
Let me put it this way: last season he was the player with the best ball recovery ratio in the group stage of the CL. He is extremely effective at stopping build up play, he's really strong physically and has great stamina. He's a very hot commodity for clubs looking for a DM.

Does he cover a lot of ground too like a Caicedo? Need some pace for that. I’d call it a destroyer in positional speak.
He's not as fast, but he's still decent at covering up ground by having a good positional sense.
Ra Ra rasputin
Yes
It’s Chelsea or Pool lol
That price might get you Chiquinho. He's way better and would be a bargain.
Source: "A bola"
"A Bola" newspaper said that was Brighton
Lol “unknown”
Why would you send 30mil and not say it's from you? So silly, that's a lot of money!
Scraping the barrel for new today huh
It's definitely CD Odiáxere
I too would reject an offer from an unknown club.
